Needed something sweet after dinner and we google Michael's Dairy which was near by. Parking was easy and we saw a line outside the shop. We knew it must be good. Although there was a long line, it move pretty quickly. Inside was a normal size ice cream shop and it was nice and clean. There were so many flavors to pick from but the Graham Central Station peaked my interest. I love graham crackers so it was a must have. I had it in a taco because it was different. The taco shell was a soft pliable waffle cone and I added whip cream and cherries. It was a bit hard to eat as it was melting. The ice cream was delicious and I see why it was a fan favorite. I think next time I will get this without the taco shell. My friend got a brownie sundae, she stated there was a bit too much of chocolate fudge for her liking, but overall enjoyed it. Ice cream place in a nice area of New London with plenty of seating outside. The young staff is friendly. The scoops are immense in size, so beware. They look comically large atop regular size cones. The ice cream was very good and there was a decent amount of flavors though I didn't see any particularly crazy ones, more of your standard fare (chocolate chip, smores, butter pecan, strawberrry, etc.) , but done quite well. They can also do shakes but I didn't see an option for a malted one, and that always disappoints me a bit. The family really liked the flavors they got so this is a winner if you are trying to satisfy your sweet tooth around the New London area. read more

after group in front of us received full service, man came out from back and refused to let us try any samples. skimped out on the amount of ice cream -- i had a two scoop that was much less then the one scoop in front of it. server was very rude to my grandfather and gave a lot of attitude unnecessarily that we needed more simple orders. if they can't handle a line then maybe they shouldn't be in business. the ice cream tastes fine but doesn't at all make up for how we were mistreated. will not be coming back and will be warning friends & fam about this. read more

This is the best ice cream I have ever had in my life. There scoops are huger and it tastes delicious. When I went I got one scoop of cookie dough and one of s'mores. I can't decided what was better. The cookie dough has real edible cookie dough in it and the s'mores had crushed up graham cracker. The service was also amazing there. Lastly the ambiance and scenery was amazing. Michael's Dairy is a conveniently located creamery on the campus of Mitchell College. It's a great place to bring the kids, meet with friends, and get some relief from the heat. Selection of flavors is excellent, and has rotating flavor choice specials which keeps things fresh. Of the 4 times I've been, all the ice cream that I have tried was very good. Their limited time flavor of S'mores changed my life...toasted marshmallow ice cream, generous chocolate chunks, and a salty, buttery graham cracker swirl. This ice cream is the perfect balance of that often badly attempted salty/sweet combo, but this hits dead on. Parking is easy as long as they aren't packed, otherwise you're sort off stuck behind the creamery and have to exit campus and return back through the other side on campus. Big negatives though, when I called the first time the person answering the phone was rude and flippant and didn't answer the questions I had for her. Another time I was there, I was early waiting for a friend and the manager was talking with a staff member as they were opening the store. They were talking about other staff members and how they were not dependable and drinking sodas from inventory without paying for it and such. I thought this was very unprofessional since I was just sitting there, and they didn't think they should move such a conversation elsewhere. Otherwise, Michael's is a New London staple for ice cream in the area closest to ocean beach without having to drive to downtown. If they could just increase the quality of the conversational professionalism on phone and in person, they would have a really truly great thing going. read more

Wowzer! We made a recent trip to Mitchell College's Michale Dairy in New London the other day and we're thrilled that our all time favorite ice cream spot has undergone a transformation. Let's give it up for the new President of Mitchell College! The whole place looks "Louder and Prouder" but Michael's is shining and full of new vinegar! Same old WONDERFUL ice cream with lots of flavors and my favorite NO SUGAR ADDED in a couple of flavors. But now you can get coffee, bagels and breakfast and lunch sandwiches to go with your ice cream and the whole thing is a lot more charming than Starbucks ever tried to be. Go on! Awesome ice cream but 75cents per topping on a kids cup is crazy. My daughter picked 4 toppings on a kid size cup that really only equals one topping but they charge for 4 You may want to rethink that charging structure. For the first two weeks I was in CT for work, I was told to go to Michael's, go to Michael's, go to Michael's. It seemed like I would never get the chance, and then finally I got to go. I wish I hadn't. The best thing about this place was the anticipation. I got the oreo cookie and the moose tracks. The bf got the frozen pudding and the triple chocolate. This is how bad three of those four flavors were: 1) the bf hated the frozen pudding so much, he peeled the scoop away and threw it in the trash and 2) I hated both of mine so much that I picked out the Oreos and chocolate covered nuts. The triple chocolate was fine but not at all good. Really cheap chocolate. The ice cream itself is what does them in. It's grainy, with an absolutely horrible mouthfeel. Plus, probably to hide the fact that it is such poor quality, they just put more and more and more sugar in it than is necessary or edible. I don't know how this passes for good ice cream. I'd rather have a pre-packed pint of Haagen-Dazs, and I'm not really one for pre-packed pints. read more

It's hard to impress me with ice cream but after a hot day at the beach I needed something refreshing and tasty. I turned to a little ice cream shop in New London and said to myself why not. They had a good amount of variety to chose from I saw they had a mocha chip so I got a couple scoops of this flavor. I love it it rivaled friendly's and therefore I'd say it's better. My wife loved her peppermint stick and peanut butter cup flavors. I can recommend this place to any beach goers from now on. read more

We went at the end of the season so they had Pumpkin flavor and a wonderful concoction called Witch's Brew. The clerk was very friendly and her servings were more than generous.
