This is a pretty good craft store. My kid is into beading and they have a lot of supplies. They have Martha Stewart products for those into that. I like craft stores just for the inspiration, and I got a few ideas (plus a nice but cheap candleholder) while walking around this store. read more

I like this Store because of what they have to offer. Unfortunately, getting help is a very hard thing to do. Most of their staff does not know where their products are located. I had asked an employee if they happen to have glass bottles, and candles. They told me that they did not. So i walked away and as I was walking down the store i found the aisle with glass bottles, and right next to it, the aisle with candles. I would go there if I absolutely needed to but other than that I didn't find their staff to be helpful at all. read more

Custom Framing! DON'T DO IT. I went in today after being repeating screwed over by the framing manager, Mario. I had a matte cut 3 weeks ago the exact same size for the exact same piece by a different framer that was perfect and done in a timely manner. Therefore, I went back. Mario took my measurements and order. He said it would take over a week for a job I got done same day. I tried to disagree, but he wouldn't hear me out. I called the store the next day and someone else assured me it would be cut in store in the next few days. Wrong! I called back 2 days after, they said they didn't do the job yet and would complete it by the end of the day. I never received a call. I called back the next day and was left on hold for 10 minutes. I decided to go in. The job was not only complete, but Mario again gave me attitude. I was given a refund by the store manager after arguing with Mario. BUT THAT'S NOT IT! He did a rush job that was uneven on both sides with terrible angles. I called back to the store and demand a newly cut one. I gave them 3+ hours to cut a new one. I got there and Mario tried to give me a different size and shape frame insisting it was the right one. He wasted my time by having to yet again cut another matte. This one had torn edges, but he said the frame would cover it. I wanted quality, but he tried to send me off with it. I got the manager yet again. He cut another one with better edges, but is not the right fit. I will have to now find a new solution. This is super disappointing because this print was a gift to my boyfriend's mother that is now super late. In addition, I am about to leave town and cannot hire someone else to do the matte on time. I use to be a huge Michael's shopper, but I will never be returning ever again. read more

Tried explaining her the concept of offer and acceptance but she didn't agree to sell the item at the listed price. Never going to this store again and even suing the store in consumer court!! read more

This place is a creative person's heaven. The store is very organized and filled with everything you could ever think you'd need to do any craft. I always come in here looking for one thing, but leave with a bunch of things I didn't intend on buying. The workers here are friendly and always willing to answer questions and provide creative advice. They remodeled the checkout area at this location and I think it really helps with the flow. read more

The framing department doesn't know how to prioritize and/or accommodate the customers. Putting a hanging wire on several paintings is not rocket science and it doesn't take hours to do. Learn how to keep money and business in your pocket next time. This is not my favorite Michaels store. It always seems a little messier and a little more out of stock on the good stuff. The lines are terribly long. And I've also had the cashiers and managers be rude to me on several occasions regarding the use of coupons. Where other Michaels usually accept my competitor coupon, even for books or magazines, this one usually does not. For this area of town, the Michaels on Nutley St. in Fairfax is a much happier and less crowded location. read more

In comparison to other Michaels store in the area, this place is definitely a gem. The store is big enough to hoard almost everything a craftaholic would need: scrapbooking, knitting, crocheting, painting, drawing, cake decorating, calligraphy, etc. I used to work at Michaels during college for a year and let me tell you, there was nothing worse than organizing merchandises here, especially during holiday season. Yes there is staffing issue but the main reason is that there is SO MUCH freaking stuff. So keep an open mind cuz the staffs do try their best maintaining the store. After my undergraduate graduation last winter, I came back here without bothering checking their competition for my framing since I know Mahmoud is there. He is the best framer, very professional, knowledgeable, kind, and exceptionally patient. He did a fantastic job with my frame. Their pricing is very competitive and there are always promotions going on. During the holiday, sometimes you can take advantage of 20% or 15% off entire purchase and they always have coupon for 50% or 40% off per one item per day that you can use for the most expensive item. read more

I have been to the new Michaels in South Riding twice now. This is not one of the larger stores and does not carry the full, glorious stock as the larger one I normally frequent is Sterling. I was doing a Summer BBQ for my office and needed some baskets to put giveaways in. I was looking for some harvest baskets, just like the ones they had all over the store holding their stock. Nope... they don't sell them. I asked one of the employees (who was new)..."I just started working here and don't know where everything is"... He then brought over a manager, who said this is all we have and pointed to this wall of baskets. He said that they only use the large harvest baskets as decoration for their stock. I walked around on my own and found some smaller harvest baskets on a shelf in the autumn décor. I ended up buying those. Not even the manager was aware of what he had in stock. Nor did he help me find something that might work. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! Today I went in to look for small plastic zip lock jewelry bags. I have gotten them from Michaels (not this one) before. I looked all over the store and then asked someone who did not seem to care one iota about what I was looking for... No they don't have it. Honestly, I think this is my last time in this new store. I'm sticking with my Sterling Michaels! I have no time to waste being frustrated. read more

We go to Michaels regularly to have our childrens artwork framed and some require special framing. We always have great service but yesterday we had a lot of framing to do and unfortunately the work ran over the store hours and Susan who was helping us with our framing work continued to provide great and courteous service to us until the job was done. She has worked there for 5 years and is an asset to the company. read more

On August 19th I went to this Michael's location to make a fabric purchase. Since I work for a local university and the purchase was for my job the purchase was tax exempt. This means there are very strict rules about getting appropriate receipts because they need to be kept on file for 3 years. When I was at the register the individuals working were not paying much attention, hanging out with each other, and not engaging well with their job. This resulted in the cashier messing up and putting the tax exempt form I had filled out in the reader and the receipt not printing properly. I was directed to another register to wait for a manager who informed me she could not print another receipt. When I pressed and said that was unacceptable she said she could "contact corporate" and she what she could get. After a lot of pressing, speaking with two managers, and several failed faxes (because apparently nobody can even download a free scanning app on their phone) I got a useless computer printout. I fail to believe that there is NO WAY to reprint a receipt as this is a common thing many stores need to do regularly. Even if not able to be done immediately by a cashier a manager should be able to. The attitude by the managers and staff was completely unapologetic and didn't seem to care the severity of the fact that I needed a receipt and was unable to get an acceptable one due to their mistake. They acted like this was not a big deal when really it is - I could get in trouble at work for not having a proper itemized receipt to turn in with my purchasing paperwork. I am highly disappointed in the lack of critical thinking, problem solving skills, and overall customer service at this location. read more

Extremely poor service when trying to order bulk goods. Main customer service line kept me on hold for ages then tried to transfer me to this store who didn't have a manager on duty to help and then wouldn't pick up the phone. Main customer service picked up my call again, and when I asked to speak to a supervisor, they put me on hold for about 20 seconds and then disconnected me. Evidently they are not interested in larger sales, they just want to make a higher profit on small purchases. Not from me any more! read more

I used to go to Michales Fair Lakes all the time, prices are ok, the store is clean, organized, BUT customer service is bad, I ignored it for a while but it is annoying, it is very hard to find someone to help you, especially if the place is crowded, which is most of the time, check out lines are usually long, they will hardly take coupons, there is always a coupon online or on the mail that promises you at least 40% off, the reason I kept going there, only to get to the check out and find out it cannot be used, that happened to me several times, cashiers have to be begged for or yelled at if you want them to take the coupon almost like they're are giving you their own money, they won't let you do two different transactions even if there is no line behind. All Michaels have a kids club and every Saturday they are supposed to do arts and crafts with kids for 2 dollars, it is terrible, the person in charge has no idea what to do and improvises when someone actually shows up, a big disappointment for the kids. read more

Only giving 2 stars because the store has a huge supply of crafts and materials. However, I went there this morning on this Sunday morning with my 2 kids in need of cardboard that is not a standard size for a school project (7" x 10"). I asked the cashier if there was someone who could cut my 4 pieces of cardboard in one of those paper slicers or let me do it myself. She directed me to the back of the store. I am hobbling because I am fresh off ankle surgery and in severe pain. I made it to the back of the store and the guy in the back said they couldn't help and I could just take an exacto knife and a ruler and cut myself. To me, it always comes out crooked. This store never has anyone to ask a question, most of them give you the cold shoulder and most of my questions are answered by other customers because there are no Michael's employees around. I was looking for other items, but I decided not to even bother. I would have shopped at Walmart for this cardboard had I known in advance how little Michael's are willing to help - I've been there many times before and act like you are bothering them if you ask a basic question or need assistance with reaching something on a shelf. Not going back, will go to Walmart or Joanne's or even Amazon for art supplies. read more
