Made a trip this morning to return a few things, directly in front of me was a very sweet lady in her 80's, she asked where to go for check out the employee informed her there is NO ASSISTED CHECKOUT, that the checkout was for returns only! The employee then proceeded to tell her there is the self check out you can use that, the woman told her I don't know how to use those, the employee just literally walked away!! I stepped in to try to help her but of course had an issue with the order so finally the male employee came over after I stated to him that their policy is ridiculous The poor woman kept saying to me I am so sorry you have to help me, I WILL NO LONGER SUPPORT THIS STORE!!! Michael's is still my favorite store, I love coming to see the sales and especially the cute decor. Their hidden clearance section usually has great finds, but you do have to dig around. Michael's has a great selection of yarn and DIY items for projects. I always come here for the quality of their items. They have self checkout kiosks if you have your card, excited for the new deals that will come out soon! read more

This is a really fun store. They are all about crafting but carry fine arts materials too. We liked their journal and water color brush selection in aisles 41 and 42. Halloween supplies were 40 percent off in mid September with some fun velvet witch hats and lots of decorations that I hadn't seen elsewhere. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Never buy anything in the store as everything is overpriced. If you go online or use the app, everything is significantly discounted. Be aware that I online discounts won't be honored in store and Michaels won't price match THEIR OWN STORE. The staff is completely incompetent, lacks basic customer service support, and are just flat out rude. It's shocking how Michael's stays in business with the staff they have. If one feels the arts and crafting bug, one has little choice when it comes to brick and mortar stores. So I braved the treacherous city streets and flung myself into a Michaels. Today's quest: procure a silver metallic pen. Locating an employee, a rare sighting, to ask where an item resides in the infinite aisles of craftdom is akin to finding a needle in a haystack. When I finally spotted an employee, I inquired and was kindly directed to the place where the fancy pens live. The fancy pens must have been stricken by some malady as the selection was abysmal, the stock down to perhaps 10% of its proposed variety and quantity. Price was agreeable when coupled with the routinely reliable 20% off coupon they send in daily emails. No longer employing humans to run the cash registers, there are now multiple new self-checkouts, which for a couple minutes, makes me feel as if I work there. read more

I see this place has 3 stars...gotta say that is generous. It's Michael's, I get it, they potentially have things you can only get there or online. At this point, online seems to be the only option. I went online and looked up some stencil letters I needed and all were 'available for pick up'. Predictably, there were missing a few. I asked these two employees (who seemed annoyed to even be working) if they had more somewhere. I knew I was in trouble when she asked to scan the letters I was holding to see if they had more. I had to remind her, I didn't need these, I need the ones I don't have. They begrudgingly scanned the missing letters and in both cases it said the letters were in, but I was asked to comeback tomorrow and maybe they will be there then. My time and gas are nothing when they are getting paid. I realize unemployment is low and good help is hard to find, but seriously unacceptable. Maintaining a consistent inventory seems to be difficult for this location. Combine that with garbage customer service and going there makes no sense when it's 50/50 they have in stock what you need. Buy online unless you're desperate for something. read more

For those who don't know me too well, I am DIY genie and I love to craft! In my hometown we had about 6 crafting stores and my mom was a creative genius so moving to Santa Barbara a few years back I was heart broken to find we have little no craft based stores.. except Michaels! Michaels has been my go to for anything and everything Do It Yourself. Thank you notes, picture frames, cake decorating, you name it, they have it. There are always great sales going on and they accept multiple/old coupons. The staff are very kind and helpful, and propose great ideas when you are stuck in a rut. I often find myself just walking through every single aisle, almost like my therapy, trying to find sales and create new ideas for things I can make. I get so excited when they have new products (which is very often) and something I love goes on sale (which is also very often). The parking lot here is huge and you will never have an issue there. There is a Sprouts to the left, a Bed, Bath, and Beyond to the right, and a Right Aid right in front. Quite honestly, Fairview Plaza has all your shopping needs within one park and walk. Would definitely recommend checking out the Michaels for all your creative, crafty needs! read more

I recently submitted three paintings for framing! Ask for Adam! No one else. He has a really good eye for picking the proper frames! Service was a bit slow, and they were very apologetic. I just want to say, that Michaels has gone down hill recently. I sign my son up, for an "Art Class at Michaels via their website in Goleta, California. They send an email, to me the day before, to inform my son that his "in-person" class would be starting in 24hours. I take my son to the class the next day, and low and behold there is NO CLASS!! Furthermore, the elderly lady (with missing teeth), informs me, that she has no ideas, about any in-person classes, or text messages sent. I take out my cell phone, to show her, the proof and she just continued to tell one lie after the other. So inept! I will never sign up my son for another class at this store. Also, they have just lost any future business from me! Save your time and money and go elsewhere! read more

Michaels is the one of the only craft based store in the Santa Barbara/Goleta area. They always have everything I need here for all my DIY projects!! Every time I come in here someone who is working there greets me and they always ask me if I need help finding something. Most of the time I do since this store is so big with so many different things! Usually the person greeting me is able to help me find what I am looking for. If they can't they are then able to ask someone else who is working there and help me find it quickly. Michaels has everything for any craft project. They have picture frames, cake decorating stuff, scrapbooking stuff, jewerly making stuff and much much more! They always have great sales and if you go on their website you can get coupons! They even have a rewards club now. Joining is free and you rack up points with every purchase. Points turn into discounts and coupons overtime. Only big craft/party supply store in town, went looking for balloons, they do have plenty of the basic ones but I wanted the gold number balloons, they only had that I needed, so I guess it will be amazon again. When I finally did I was pointed across the store to find what I wanted but lifting an arm to point seemed to be the extent of their interest in me (could you please walk me to the vague place you are pointing???). Im comparing this to the Michaels I used to frequent on 3rd st in LA. MUCH BETTER. I see the other complaints about poor customer service, and maybe I just dont ask for help enough to notice the deficiency. I certainly didnt notice anyone being rude per se. I brought 2 oil paintings to be framed a few months ago. I went to pick them up and when I arrived home I noticed that one of them had a little scratch on it. I called them and explained the situation, they told me to bring it back. I returned it back and they redid the framing for free. I am so thankful and satisfied. I feel like this is maybe an obvious, but never go to Michael's if you are actually looking for art supplies. If you want some kitschy scrapbook stuff, then okay, MAYBE Michael's will fly, but their selection of art supplies is really really lacking...they don't even have good paint brushes, for example. I'm only writing this because I was fooled before and didn't know there were other arts and crafts stores in the area. I guess it its a plus that they are open late, but that is about it. Went to Michael's on Tuesday around 7pm to get some yarn to do faux locs. They had a generous selection of yarn, but knocked off a star because the yarn section was so hard to find (it's in the back corner against the wall). Really writing this review because one of the sale's associates, an older woman with gray hair, was SO nice and extremely helpful in figuring out what kind of yarn and giving me general tips and tricks and even website suggestions. I have enough craft supplies to last me a lifetime thanks to my profession but wouldn't you know it I need floral tape for a very special occasion in 48 hours and don't have it. Sooooo I go online to experience ordering and quick curbside delivery for the first time since COVID started and was so pleased with how Dona handled it all. I placed a few orders by the time it was over but one cancelled in the middle of the night and said "out of stock" which is not what you want to hear when your special occasion is 2 days away and Michaels is the only place in town that has this to our knowledge. I finally broke down and called the store locally and got the kindest voice, eager to assist and make sure I don't have too little or too much floral tape and the right kind. She was professional, courteous and kind. I can't say enough about what a pleasant experience it was and best of all, I got what I needed. The customer service here is HORRIBLE. Ive been checked out twice with this older lady, didn't get a chance to look at her name because i was so in shock that she literally barely said one word to me while checking me out. Wow, for one the store is a mess. Two, the staff here was incredibly rude. I asked a lady where I could find contact paper and she told me "they don't sell it" and walked away. I asked another associate and she told me I could "find some in the kids section", and walked way. Finally, I found an entire aisle on the other side of he store with a wall of contact paper choices.
