Avoid Hometown Heroes…read more I have now had two separate experiences with this company where I was quoted an enormous replacement job, only to have the problem resolved for a fraction of the cost. The first was my AC. I was told I needed an entirely new system and was quoted thousands of dollars. Thankfully, I called my dad, who is a contractor. He ended up having to tell their technician what part to replace. They replaced that one part for about $400, and my AC has worked like a dream ever since. It is ridiculous that I had to call my dad so he could tell the HVAC company I was paying what part needed to be replaced. Then I had an issue with my main sewer line. Hometown Heroes told me they would need to excavate and install a new main line and quoted me more than $15,000. I called Anthony Plumbing for a second opinion. They cleared my drain lines, scoped everything, and resolved the issue for about $400. That is a $15,000+ recommendation versus a roughly $400 solution. Everyone I dealt with at Hometown Heroes was very nice, but that honestly makes this more concerning to me. My experience has been that they operate more like salespeople than repair technicians. Both times, I was pushed toward an extremely expensive replacement when a much smaller repair or service solved the actual problem. I would especially caution women, homeowners who aren't familiar with HVAC or plumbing, elderly customers, and anyone who may not have the technical knowledge to challenge a recommendation like this. Please get a second opinion before agreeing to a major repair or replacement. Based on my experiences, I would never give Hometown Heroes my business again. Avoid at all costs.

Which is understandable. The problem I ran into with them is that I felt that I was being oversold on a couple things. The technician informed me that I need to put in a new capacitor for the furnace. I said go ahead because I was trusting his guidance. Well, turns out that since the AC unit went out, it is best to replace not only that, but the cooling coil AND put in an updated furnace to boot. This of course was told to me after he put in the capacitor. Which was too late to say no. Heartland charged me $96 for a part if you Google it costs $5 - $6 on average! And literally takes zero effort to connect it. Very frustrating. Then when I had the sales person come out for the official bid along with the owner, both were very professional and nice guys. However, again... I felt I was getting over sold. One thing that stood out in my mind was when the owner, Jim (I believe is his name) showed me that one of the air ducts was not making a 'hollow tin' sound when you press on it. That it was a sign it was rusted out from the inside and needed to be replaced. Granted I needed some duct work as some were definitely rusted. However, that particular air duct he was referring to was just insulated on the inside because it takes air away from the furnace. The hollow duct is only for return air ducts. Which makes total since. Thinking about this I feel that for someone that has been in the business for so long should have known that. Maybe not...but I just felt I was getting over sold again to drive the bid up even higher. As for the bid itself. I will say they were the most expensive by at least 20%. In short. Nice, friendly people and knowledgeable. However, they are very expensive and gave me the impression that I was being oversold. Starting with that $96 capacitor. Needless to say, I did not go with them.

He determined that we needed to replace the blower motor and capacitor. He had both parts his truck and installed them while he was there. The whole repair only took a couple of hours. He also came by a couple days later to replace a broken piece of duct that he'd noticed while he was fixing the air handler! Eric was very friendly and professional and proud of his work. Obviously nobody wants to have to call an HVAC repair company, but if you do, I highly recommend Dave & Kelly's.
