I brought two picture frames into the store as I was told. I asked to have glass cut to fit for one, and acrylic for the other one. I paid for the items. I went home with my wrapped up glass and acrylic panes -- an hour round-trip from where I live in Centerport. I got home only to see that both pieces were cut too large. Another hour round trip to get it done correctly. What a waste of time and gas! And nothing was offered to compensate for the poor service. The store is so poorly run. Not enough staff. The sales clerk herself is unhappy behind the register saying the job is so stressful. She's called for a manager three times and no one comes to help her. The line is about five or six customers deep and it's 11am on a weekday. Bonus points if you like waiting in line for their inane self checkout system that guarantees a frustrating experience as you try to escape this purgatory. I was shocked by my experience at the Michaels by the Walt Whitman Mall. The check out lane is "self service" but I didn't know this. When I asked the two employees who were standing RIGHT THERE if it was self serve they didn't answer me - I had to ask three times, and actually ended up just serving myself. Then an much older gent came up and wanted to be rung up and the sales assistant was actually RUDE to him. He asked nicely to be rung up bc he didn't understand the kiosk and she shouted at him to WAIT. She told him they were busy and they had been very busy all day and he would have to wait - we were literally the only people in the store. Again - I was shocked at how rude this young woman was to the man. And I told her so. I also told her I was going to write a review. We recently purchase a helium tank for a party. We got up at 6sm day of party to inflate tons of balloons. We could not get the helium to work. Unfortunately we inflated the balloons using a compressor. We brought the tank back to the store and were told we could not return the product as it worked for the person in the store. I explained that it did not work for me and I want my money back. I asked for a manager and was told the same thing. Neither Taylor or Edwin were able to assist me. There's never anyone in the store to help. There's like 2 employees working there at a time maximum. Everytime I need an item unlocked I need to wait 20 minutes for an employee to come or walk around the entire store to find one. It's ridiculous. This store has the worst customer service! The check out girl (Maria) actually had the nerve to call my 88 year old mother rude. And insist to call over her manager to confirm her guilt. The manger had no idea how to deal with the situation... it was an embarrassment! Please know my family has been in the retail business for years and would never expect anything from anyone because we know how hard it is to be in retail especially after the Holiday season. So, Thank you to all of you who can hold your grace and composure when dealing with the very young or the elderly. This was the first time I have been to any Michaels stores. I was referred by a friend that said there framing department was really good. I needed an estimate to have two pieces of art reframed. The woman helping me was very nice and very helpful. She gave me a written estimate and explained the wholes process. I did not use them yet but they seemed to be very knowledgeable. The store is huge and had tons of items for arts and craft and painting. I would definitely recommend them atlas for an estimate. I will never go there again for custom framing. The frame I received was horrible and when I asked what my options were I was told there was none. When I took the picture out of the frame I noticed the edges were cut up and were not even anymore. Where do I start to talk about John in the framing department? Years ago I had a very good experience with Michael's framing so I was willing to trust the framing specialists at the Melville location. I was fortunate to get John, who guided me through a custom framing of my very first watercolor painting ever. I wasn't sure of the matting colors or framing colors as well, so he took me through many options and helped me arrive at a custom matted frame that I was happy with (with the usual discounts, of course.) See pic below. The next time I went in to see him, he helped me pick out a mat, a frame and then counseled me to wait for the discount coupon to buy the frame. He was right about the combination: see pic below. Today, 3/31/19, I went in to Michael's to ask John a question. He recognized me and said "Hey! Welcome back!" That he remembers repeat customers demonstrates how good he is working with people. So, there were two women ahead of me with whom he was working and when he took their piece into the back room, I commented on how wonderful John is and one of them agreed with me; the other had encountered him for the first time today. We commented on his expertise, his helpfulness, his friendliness and his obvious enthusiasm for his job. One of the women asked him to call over his manager and we told her how wonderful John is: she agreed. We made John blush, and there and then decided to form a group: John's Girls (sexist, I know but we are "ladies of a certain age" so we can get away with it!). Anyway, you can't go wrong with John: also, I really don't think he would ever talk customers into someting they didn't want just to make a sale. He really cares about the photo or artwork you want to have hanging on your walls or sitting on a desk or table or given as a gift to someone. Michael's is lucky to have John the Framer. read more

Michaels store 2062 Seriously has to be the worst craft store I've ever gone to. The store was a mess. I was waiting 20 minutes for the only available cash register with only one person in front of me in line. The manager walked around doing I don't know what. I asked the sales associate if there was someone else to ring and she looked at me and completely ignored me. She was so rude! Finally someone else opened a register as the line built behind me. I asked for the rude sales associate's name, I was directed to the manager who still made me wait to talk to her. I asked for the sales associate's name to put in a complaint and she refused to give it me, telling me that she would speak to her and there was no reason for me to take further action. It's open. I love the store and the employees are very nice and helpful, but there's no air conditioning? (-2 stars for that) If it's 90 outside, like July-August tends to be, it's HOT in there. I don't stroll the aisles anymore because I don't like to break a sweat shopping, so if I can't find what I'm looking for in 5 minutes, I'm out. It's 2020 & I've never heard of a retail store, especially a chain store, not having a/c. Maybe their evil landlord is trying to sweat them out? I don't typically write reviews for retail stores but after more than one bad experience, I can't help it. There was a time when staff at Michael's were knowledgeable and plentiful inside the store. Whenever I go into the store now most of the stuff is busy at register and there just aren't a lot of employees walking around to assist shoppers. The employees are downright rude and seem to have no knowledge of arts and crafts. Once I had to ask someone at the register where something was placed. She knew exactly where it was but when I went and came back to pay at the register I thanked her for telling me where it was and she gave me this miserable smile and shook her head. Recently I went to the store to find a necklace chain for a pendant and when I asked for simple assistance about this chain the employees acted as if it wasn't their job to assist me. I wandered away from where the chains were to find an employee who could help me and she just told me to look by the chains, I suppose she was busy. So I asked another employee by the chains if she could help me identify a chain and she just again shrugged her shoulders and said I basically just have to find one she didn't seem to notice that the pendant was a gold color and pointed out a few chains that were silver. I got the impression that she just sincerely didn't know about the crafts that were in her craft store or that she had more important things to do than help the customers. How can a business survive with this level of customer service? I'm not sure but I probably won't be back. If you are in need of some crafts and know exactly what you want and don't need the help of employees then certainly, by all means, go to Michael's because it is closest to where ever you are. However don't go there for the shopping experience. read more

I went to the store this afternoon with my daughter; she found the label maker that she wanted for her birthday, so as I am checking out I ask if I can use the 30% off ALL Regular Price Purchases coupon that we received in the mail. The coupon did say limit one coupon per product and Not Valid on: list of products............. Long story short - the cashier said that the coupon is not valid for the item we purchased because it was a part of their Everyday Value program; nowhere anywhere did it indicate that this product was a part of this Everyday Value program and his response was "well sometimes things aren't labeled unfortunately." Next I ask for the manager and the managers response was this label maker falls under technology. As I'm reading a review that someone else wrote regarding customer service - I won't go as far and say they were disgusting and deplorable but the coupon itself is very misleading. I would have returned the item but it was something my daughter wanted so I spent the extra $18 I thought I'd be saving. I hope that the understand that in the future that extra $18 they received today will go to Amazon. read more

I was in this location in Huntington this past Saturday and I swear as long as the manager Cindy is there, I will NEVER go back. She was by far the nastiest, most unhappy person I've ever come across., I cannot believe she is a manager. I approached the cashier at the 1st register ( which happened to be her), & told her I was told I could combine the coupons I had which were only good until the end of that day from another store & just wanted to make sure that was the case before I grabbed what I came in for. Right away she was a complete witch. Idk if it's because she was having a funny conversation when I came in & had to stop or what. Before I could even finish my sentence (any sentences actually), she cuts me off & said " well I don't know what coupons you're even talking about, let me see them"! So unbelievably rude I was speechless. She kept repeating the same thing like I was a two year old when I told her what I was trying to do. Went to get my item & a clearance item which I know you can't use coupons on. Get to the register only one coupon is working, so the cashier (also super unpleasant) calls for her to come over. There is a line so I tell her if she wants to take the people waiting, I'll wait over to the side. Doesn't say anything, & rolls her eyes at me. I move anyway not knowing what she's doing & finally Cindy comes over. They are literally whispering about me & the transition out in the open & finally Cindy comes to me & says "the coupons don't work in clearance items, I told you one coupon would work on one thing & the other will take care of the remainder". I said "no you didn't I asked you about combining the coupons, I was only getting one thing". She starts literally getting loud with her finger in my face saying "you didn't say anything about getting only one thing!" She said it like 4 times in front of everyone on line & remotely close by. I was shocked. I just paid for my items, the cashier didn't even give me a chance to enter my email at the end being a rewards member & left. I passed her by the exit & told her I didn't think she should be working with people. Her response "have a nice day!!!" In the most sarcastic way possible, then mumbling something as I was leaving which I heard part of which I won't repeat but I'm you can probably imagine the gist. I have been in the hospitality industry my whole life & know how to talk with people of all kinds. I have no idea how this woman is employed anywhere near consumers and the public, no less A MANAGER! Completely unreal. I have loved Michael's for so long & am a regular. I have always thought everyone working for them were delightful. I love Michaels usually. .i LOVE CRAFTS...however the customer service in this location is not consistent:/ sometimes its great ( i will ask for help and receive great service) other times its mediocre. Most of my frustration is at the checkout. Long lines at times, the cashiers seem miserable and NEVER let me know about events for sales, coupons, or future events. I try not to write negative reviews but I've had too many instances at this Michael's to let it go. The staff is very rude at this location. In my most recent trip at the register when the sales girls scanned my item it didn't show that it was on sale. When I informed her that the sign said the trunks were 40% off she rudely says " no they aren't" I informed her there was a big sign saying that there was 40% off all kids trunks she told me "it wasn't a kids trunk". Um since when is a pirate trunk not a child's trunk. Then she talks to someone over the ear piece and was like "oh yea they are"... She was just rude and was looking at me like I was stupid. Then I asked for my teachers discount and she said that I already got 40% off and I could not combine the teacher discount. However it was supposed to be rung up with the 40% off already and I was entitled to the extra 15% but she couldn't figure it out and then another rude lady came over and tried to tell me the teachers discount didn't apply to sale items. Since when? It certainly does apply but I wasn't going to argue since it wasn't going to be more than an additional $1 or so off. Like I said this wasn't the first time I experienced rude workers from this store so I try to avoid this location but sometimes I can't. Michael's is my favorite store in almost the entire world. It has the biggest selection and variety of household decorations during the holiday season plus it just has everything that you need for arts and crafts and perfectly fits into my creative personality. Any time that I go there I know that I'm sure to find everything that I want according to the season of the year. They always have things available and just in case if something does run out they always have an extra stock in the back. The Michael's in Melville is exceptionally helpful . Also Michaels has something that makes it extra ordinary. They actually have classes that offer arts and crafts. If somebody like me for example, like to do arts and crafts but is not that good at it, unfortunately, they can go to Michael's and get hey brochure and start learning to be more creative. So Michael's does not just give me the satisfaction of having a home decorated perfectly in holiday decor but also offers me classes to learn how to improve myself. read more
