Dec 2025 Update: The obnoxious woman is still there, but what's worse is, the store is starting to look like JoAnn right before it went out of business. The aisles are a disaster: stuff is thrown all over the floor, many aisles have unopened boxes waiting to be put out on shelves, and the whole place feels like a thrift store. In order to transform this old cabinet I found for free on the side of the road, I purchased some black paint, topcoat paints, and burlap (which I used to fill in the center of each cabinet). I love how this project turned out, and the supplies I got from here worked great! read more

This store have been on the upswing lately. The staff has been helpful and the shelves seem better stocked. The online 20 percent coupon I get almost every week is very useful and helpful. They have a large selection of Cricut stuff which is what I primarily buy there. I also enjoy the holiday specific aisles. This wasn't my favorite location for a long time but the service and cleanliness is improving and I like that. It's the closet one to me so I hated going farther to shop the store by SW Plaza. I enjoyed my visit today. I will return again soon. read more

The items in wrongly placed--the costs weren't what's Advertised. They send you coupons to get you in but there's always some hitch that keeps it from being a real discount. The store in Lakewood (Belmar) has mostly self check outs. The store is practically empty of people but they don't want to check you out with a person? The Manager (I think) was a rude old woman. I will stop using Michaels as my craft store. read more

The framing was not cheap but the results were so awesome, my pictures are always praised for the framing. I went in and purchased several bags of Pony Beads, and the price is $1.99. When at the checkout it was $4.99. I went back to verify it was $1.99 and their manager on duty Chris stated their computers is the absolute price and there is nothing they can do about it. Chris stated to me if you don't like the price return it and you can leave. After spending thousands of dollars and using Michael's as a primary craft store I will NEVER go back. This store is always cluttered and under stocked. I check ahead of time to see if they have certain products through the app only to get there and find they don't have a product out. They also will make zero attempts to look in the back or through a shipment to locate items for you. Lately, just feels like a gamble and a waste of time trying to shop with Michael's. Also, if you do curbside pick up the 2 hour guarantee is a joke. Try more like pick up in a week. This location is particularly bad but seems to be a company wide issue. Don't think your actually getting a discount, they just want you to feel like your getting a good deal with "60% off". Then, once I get everything set up, it's 5 weeks before I have to stop by and bug the guy named Chris, about my order. He calls me later that afternoon to pick it up. I'm surprised the reviews for Michael's are so low, especially compared to Hobby Lobby. I don't think there's a huge difference - there are some things I prefer to get at either store. Anyway, Michael's has a pretty great selection of fabric flowers, and since I use a lot of the fabric poinsettias in my holiday decorations, this is the place for me. Things are almost always on some kind of sale (but, craft stuff is ridiculously over-priced to begin with, so the constant sales aren't really a surprise). Large parking lot shared with other businesses, can get crazy. Staff is usually non-existent or snotty when approached. Lines at the registers -always. I'm not as crafty as i used to be, but i am in here every couple of months getting something or other. I can not usually find a staff member when i need one, register kiddos are less than thrilled to be there (not sure why they even work there). As other's have said, you go looking for something - for me - wide elastic band. Took me forever to find the 2 packages of elastic there were nothing near what i needed. The woman i requested of where i might find it was pretty snippy. It was unclear if she was simply doing inventory or working there, so when i asked - do you work here, i got attitude and a snuff... sigh. We came here to get a poster dry mounted. The staff seemed disenchanted with their jobs to say the least. The worst was the check out. One poor girl for a whole line of people. We saw people put stuff back on the shelf and walk out it was so bad. Finally another employee ho hummed his way to the cash register and looked with what came across as disgust at having to help people. Lots of times it doesn't have what I need but it's the closest to me. Hard to find someone to help you. I've placed 3 online orders for pickup and I do NOT recommend it. The 1st order I placed sent me an email that the item wasn't in stock, so I wouldn't be charged. I was charged. 2nd online order, they actually had the item and I was able to pick it up curbside but had to call to see where the pickup are was because it's poorly marked and people were parked there. 3rd order I ordered 3 items which showed in stock. I later got an email saying that one item was out of stock. And then I got another email saying that another item was out of stock. I'd been told that if I didn't pick up the order by a certain date, the item would be restocked and I wouldn't be charged, so I didn't go pick up the 1 item they had. But today I got an email thanking me for picking up my order. I checked my credit card and I had been charged for the item. So I tried chat to resolve it, but the bot was NO help. So, I called the store. It's just way too much trouble to order for pickup at Michaels. They don't have some of it in stock, they say you won't be charged, etc.. They are literally the only business that I pickup from that I've had multiple problems with. Just don't waste your time. Hoping I will actually get a refund for the item I never picked up without having to make another call. read more

Just had the worst customer service I've ever experienced in my life. I've never felt so disrespected as a paying customer. Today is October 8th. The young lady at the cash register has a huge ego trip yelling at the customers about the shopping carts not being allowed outside. So when my family checks out and the employee asked if we want to apply for the credit card and my partner says no she proceeds to yell and ask very rudely if "either" of us wanted to apply for it. Then gets rude and aggressive again when we started to load our cart with our purchases because she would not give us a bag! She never asked if we wanted a bag. Approached me quite aggressively and I told her she was making my family including my teenage child very nervous. I've never been treated with such hate and aggressiveness by a customer service employee. If you don't like your job then quit! Don't take it out on the innocent customers keeping your business afloat. She was rude to other customers as well. Before I was even in line she yelled at my family asking if we were ready to check out when we weren't even standing near the line. She was impatient with people not even in line yet. I do not feel that this employee is safe for your business. She offended several people in just the 5 minutes of my check out experience. I bought the majority of decorations and supplies for my wedding here. I made diaoramas and had specific needs. I found the perfect bowls, sands, rocks, and decorations in this store. I found flowers for decoration and lots of other things! There's almost always an awesome sale going on and they have great coupons as well. I also had their floral department make my bouquets for myself and my bridesmaid, and the corasages for the rest of the party. They were amazing and I can't say enough about them. They were much cheaper than anywhere else, including real flowers. read more

Michael's is what it is. That is to say, it's a basic craft store for people who are basically crafty. The only thing they have over Hobby Lobby is that they're open Sundays (see my review regarding HL's bias against those who ain't God-Fearin' Christians). The customer service at this Michael's place pretty much sucks. I went there yesterday looking for-- among other things-- a zipper. Nothing fancy, just your run-of-the-mill zipper. They've got a sewing aisle, so you'd think they'd have zippers! You'd be wrong. The first employee I asked about said zippers replied with a shrug and an, "I don't think so." You don't THINK, or you don't KNOW? I pressed a bit harder, and since we were already in the sewing aisle she agreed to actually look at the shelves with me (wow). "Nope, don't see 'em." Well neither did I, duh. That's why I ASKED. Suddenly she turned tail and headed into the back room, presumably to ask someone more clued-in. I waited. And waited. And browsed the Bob Rossery. And waited some more. Finally she emerged and walked off in the other direction as if we'd never even spoken! Okay. Thanks. So... no zippers. Another bit o' craftiness called for me to pick up some acrylic paint sealant. Not really sure what sort of sealant I needed or where to find it amidst the rows of aforementioned Bob Rossery and not-aforementioned-but-still-omnipresent Scrapbookery, I made sure to inquire of a DIFFERENT employee than the Zipperless Wunderkind to whom I'd already spoken. "Acrylic Sealant?" I said. It was as if I were speaking Russian. Blank stare. "To seal something I've painted with acrylic paint?" I prompted. He grunted at me. Progress! "What would I use to seal something I've painted with acrylic paint?" I asked, making sure to speak slowly. And then... a response! "Do you know what you're looking for?" Head, meet wall. Commence banging. "Nooo... that's why I'm asking YOU. YOU work here." Normally I'm not rude or short with people, but DANG. Mouthbreathers, begone! You are banished from customer service FOREVER! Three stars for Michael's products, one star for the employees. Make sure you know EXACTLY what you want when you go in, or else be prepared for your brain to bleed out your eyeballs. read more

So incredibly disappointed in my experience with Michaels. I waited a month to write this review to cool off and I still feel just as hurt and angry. Earlier this summer I was given a small poster print of the plants and wildlife in Yellowstone National Park by my mother.lThe poster is pretty small, maybe 11x16, and mostly white with the branches of a tree on it. I went in to Michaels to get the poster framed. Since I know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about framing, I figured I would take my poster to the "framing experts" to help me out. The woman at the framing desk had me go through the many mat colors they had, as well as frames. Once I had chosen out a few potential match-ups I liked, she offered to put them into the computer to preview how the colors looked together. I found mats and a frame I liked, and was told my poster would be ready in two weeks. Two weeks later I return to pick my poster up. The lady at the desk is the same one who helped me before. My poster has tripled in weight and size. The beautiful dark green mat I had chosen swallowed my poster instead of accentuating it. The tiny font and pictures of animals barely stood out. My poster basically looked like a dead tree surrounded by a dark green mat because of how overpowering the HUGE mat was. The lady at the desk informs me that a 3 inch mat is a standard size, and that this was illustrated in the preview she had shown me previously. Now, she was probably right on both counts, but, the whole reason I went to Michaels was because I don't know anything about framing and wanted to get help from experts. Instead, the experts took advantage of my ignorance and shoved me out the door as fast as they could with the most expensive frame they could. I felt extremely disappointed and taken advantage of. After expressing my disappointment with a manager, she offered to make edits to the frame work without any extra charge. She said they would cut a white line into the mat, which would bring out the poster more, and hopefully drown it out less. She assured me my poster would stay in house, and should only take a week to finish. TWO WEEKS LATER I call the store to find out not only is my poster not done, but it was shipped off to a different store, after the manager explicitly stated it would not leave the Belmar store. I'm informed my poster will be done in another week. Three weeks after dropping my poster off it was finally done. There is now a white outline of a box within the massive sea of green surrounding my poster. I guess it kind of helps accentuate the poster a little, but not really. I'm still very disappointed in the final product. The focus of the poster is now on the mat. The tiny pictures and small print have been totally drowned out. My 11x16 thick padded poster is now 21x27, and weighs an absurd amount. Overall I'm upset for two main reasons. The first is the staff failed to educate me in framing, and I am disappointed in my final product because of this. As declared "experts" it's your duty to ensure you inform and assist guests who should otherwise know nothing of framing. I was not educated regarding "standard mat width" until it was too late for this knowledge to be benificial to me. The second reason I'm upset is I was lied to. I was told the edits they were making would take one week, and my poster would not leave the store. However when I called in two weeks later I was informed my poster was in another store. So not only did they lie regarding holding onto my poster, but they also did not feel the need to update me on its locations With how disappointed I was, and still am, I believe Michaels should have offered to reframe without any extra charge. Instead the manager convinced me I was lucky to have then make the edits they did free of charge. I feel swindled. I just wanted a tiny frame with a pretty mat trim to bring out the fine details of the poster. Instead I paid Micheals $200 to ruin a sentimental gift from my mother. After dropping over $200 to get this thing framed, I expected it to be done well and to my liking. Instead it's just a disappointing reminder of a horrific framing experience at Michaels. read more

I went to this Michaels today for the crochet class. It was very fun! The teacher was very knowledgeable and patient about teaching you the right patterns. She showed each student what they wanted to make, like a grandma square, scarf or cell phone holder. At the end of the class, she took us around the yarn section of the store to tell us about the various types of yarn and needles. The yarn selection there was large, but I saw that they ran out of some. She also showed all the things she's crocheted that was displayed in the yarn section so that we can think of our next projects. Note: since we took the class, the items we purchased that day was 10% off. I'm not sure if that's always the case, but it was a nice perk today. read more

Former review. Update: They just suck. No customer service at all. They say they honor competitors coupons and prices but they won't honor THEIR OWN COUPONS. Go to Hobby Lobby across the street. Better selection and much more friendly, useful, and helpful employees. Original review: This is a small location, with the limited selection that goes with that. I don't buy anything at Michael's without my trusty 40% off coupon, or if it's already on sale at that same discount. So yes, without coupons or selective shopping, the prices are high. But you pretty much know that going into any Michaels. So I do find myself here when I need to pick up a quick crafty item. What makes this one sub-par are two main things: 1. The Parking Lot From Hell. Seriously, it's a war zone. and 2. Their framing pricing. Don't even bother with it. Even AT 40% off, they're exorbitant, more than twice the price of a custom framing shop that *doesn't* have teenagers that will wrinkle and crinkle the edges of your item while haphazardly framing it. It's just not worth the risk. So, for a quick, run-in-run-out craft need, sure, go in with your coupon. (Be prepared: Like the Hobby Lobby across the street, they tend to have one or two checkstands open at most.) And watch your back in that parking lot. read more

I drove out of my way to find a Michaels or Hobby Lobby - honestly which ever one showed up first. Enter Michaels - I was a woman on a mission - only looking for one frame to fit a 11x14 picture. It didn't need to be fancy, just a nice solid frame. This Michaels has a pretty extensive frame collection and after perusing the majority of their offerings I settled on a brown one for about $12. Not to shabby for a frame. I can't talk to custom framing or the like, for what Michaels is I had a fine experience and was happy with the quality I received. read more

This is a great Michael's location. Their store and crafty/DIY selection is huge, sometimes a bit overwhelming! I wish I would have had a staff member approach me while I was there so I could ask for a little help finding what I was looking for. But, of course, when you get lost in a place like this you are bound to come across a million things you didn't know you needed, but suddenly want. I have never seen a sticker selection so big. I definitely think this is the place to go for scrapbookers! They have tons of supplies for painting, woodwork, frames, flowers, yarn, sewing and so much more.They also have a great section for arts and crafts for the kiddos, it took up almost a fourth of the store. Michael's always has great sales going on and coupons! Gotta love that 40% off coupon. Every little bit helps. read more

This store has a decent of scrapbooking supplies. They have a lot of stickers and 12x12 paper collections. There are two collections which recently caught my eye, as I'm sure they were new. The yarn section of the store is pretty decent for basic yarn. They tend to run out of the particular yarn I like, sale or not. From what I can tell as I walk past other sections is that they keep the place pretty well stocked, which is good. The employees are mostly friendly. You have to approach them, otherwise they will probably not ask you if you need help. That's fine with me, as I prefer not to be bothered as I contemplate whether I want the script 'love' stamp or the one with the heart. They tend to congregate to talk amongst themselves, which is okay unless you want to ask one a question. Then it's hard to get their attention and I personally hate interrupting people. I would have given this store four stars, but an employee ruined that for me. As I was waiting in an amazingly short line (the only one open), there was another person behind me. An employee came to that person, opened a new line, and checked them out first. Would it have been too difficult to ask me to check out first? It's really aggravating when an employee checks out the last person in line instead of the next person, no matter where they do it. read more

I purchased frames, and ordered mats to be cut for the frames. I went to put the mats in the frames and they were 1" to small in each direction. Up against a deadline, I had to take an hour out of my morning to run back to Michael's, and was treated similarly like the other customer service reviews. Being a full time photographer that is slammed right now, my hourly rate is $65 an hour... 1.5 hrs of my day is now wasted by michaels because of their mistake, I expected more of a credit than the mats. instead, after I told the assistant store manager (casey) that I was going to speak to his manager, he gave me a smug "that's fine" with an equally smug grin. I shop here mainly for papers for my origami projects. It has a smaller selection of papers than the Colorado Blvd location, but good enough. I wish they sell larger paper, but all their papers are either A4 or 12x12 inches squares. I occasionally browse other products and the selection is very similar from store to store. Customer service is horrible as always as in all locations. Not enough cashier, no one to help you when you are trying to look for something particular, etc. read more

During the holidays they need to get employees that actually work! I shopped at this Belmar location and all the people were talking about was when they were getting off. There were 3 dark haired females and 2 males, one with blue/purple hair that just ignored the customer's waiting in line to check out. They would look at us and just keep joking walking around. I really like this Michaels, they have a really great and large selection of everything which they keep stocked very well and all of the employees were pretty helpful. Walked in praying they'd be having a sale, and I lucked out with 50% off everything I needed! I got four large canvases for the price of two and snagged a fantastic, high-quality easel for half-off (I couldn't have afforded it otherwise). The gentleman at the cash register was very friendly and offered to sign me up with their email offers. Then, when I came back a couple of weeks later to restock on paints and supplies, I'd forgotten my emailed coupon, but the young lady scanned a coupon for 25% off my entire purchase.
