Tacoma was out but the sweet sales associates offered to order or call Seattle. I overheard them on the phone confirming various sizes. So I thanked them & drove up to Seattle. I noticed the Seattle location didn't have the sizes I was told, I asked the guy in charge of frames/ stretchers and he claimed I asked for one size then showed me a different brand from what was confirmed over the phone, a heavy duty variety. When I expressed frustration of being told the wrong thing, he walked off pouting, didn't offer to order any for me like Tacoma did. Not wanting to leave empty handed I grabbed a couple off sizes so I can work. On my way to check out, I informed my friend of what just occured and placed the stretchers at the register. The clerk said "You need to check out over there, Sir." My flabbers were gasted! My monocle popped out! I said "Sir? I'm not a sir!". This was strange and shocking to me. So I went to the proper clerk saying "They just called me Sir. What part of me gives man? I've never been called a man." So yeah I'm mad confused as to why my petite, adorable self in pink & lilac got called a man by someone who would not appreciate being misgendered themselves.... On Pride weekend of all times. And why wasn't I offered to have the supplies ordered for me like in Tacoma? Basically I received a wild goose chase, a bad attitude, lied to about what I overheard confirmed on the phone, and casually misgendered by Seattle staff. Very sad since I prefer supporting local. The Tacoma shop is a vibe with kind, helpful staff. I'll stick with them and Jerry's Art a Rama online. Apparently several reviews report bad behavior from staff over the past year or so. Don't need the funky ahh attitude when I just wanna create.

The smallest signs that said "not for bags" were written in sharpie on tape. I was sure I picked all the bag eligible items but when I went to check out every item was rung up. So instead of 7 dollars it came out to 23. In response to owner- I looked for the signs as best I could, I thought all these things I picked out were good to go. The signs are very small and not obvious so it's hard to tell what is individually priced and what's not. Everything in the store has a price on it. But yes next time I will triple read the signs to avoid paying 22 dollars for old pins and beads!:)

I was able to park near the entrance, but it is an alleyway so I don't know if that will always be available. There's currently 3 aisles with glass sheets, some tools, supplies and items for kiln work. As always the owner was very nice and helpful. He offered to get my glass to my car. One you enter, you go through a small room into another and then up a couple of concrete stairs, then you're there. They still have the best selection in the area (and almost the only selection that I know about south of Burien).

Imagine my surprise when I walked in and saw what I had been missing all this time!! Truthfully, I thought it was more of a craft store than a book store; but I was completely wrong. There are many, many shelves and aisles of books - much more than I thought there would be. Both "parts" of the store, the books and the craft, are plentiful. Book 'N' Brush have a great selection of all genres of books - adults, teens, kids - and it's already great to have these selections in a local store. Physical space side of things - the aisles are wide, the shelves are deep, book covers are displayed, top sellers are spotlighted - everything is easy to see and the store is easy to navigate. The staff was very friendly with me. Checking in when I walked in and then let me wander and look around without being pushy or making me feel like they were hovering over me. Perfect!! Half of the store is for fiber crafts and the other half is a gift shop with vintage-style offerings like drinking glasses, clothes, accessories, candleholders, and more. I really liked their yarn selection because I don't care for knitting with wool and they had lots of cotton, silk, and bamboo. Their prices are reasonable. I fell in love with yarn called Bamboo Bloom and bought two skeins. The woman who rang me up kindly gave me a copy of a pattern to knit with the yarn, a cute cowl. A knitting class was taking place near the back of the shop while we were there. I eavesdropped and was impressed with the instructor. Much like the other yarn stores I visited while vacationing in Washington, I wish I lived nearby so I could visit there more often.

They are the cheapest in the Seattle area here, and their prices beat most online vendors. I've done a number of private one hour lessons with Nicole. She has helped my skills grow so quickly--she is patient and provides the right amount of guidance. Jen's minute check-ins are great for a quick bit of guidance (and she's willing to spend the extra time to wrap things up when I bring in something a little more complicated than I realized).
