If I could give this store negative stars, I would. Horrible customer service! I was only trying to check out and purchase a sewing machine that they had to scan and get from the back room. There were tags you had to take to the cashier for 5 machine models but none were in stock. Why have them out if you don't have them? I even called ahead! What an ordeal. A poor gentleman behind me was getting balloons for his daughter's birthday and they had been done days ahead of time and all deflated. I used to love going here, but now the store hardly ever has what I actually need for projects. The sewing section is half empty every time I go in, and while the employees are helpful when I can find them, the store seems both severely understaffed and understocked. And I know this is more a corporate issue than the store itself, but it has to be said that it's really frustrating walking past aisles of home decor and toys but not being able to find any of the actual crafting things I need in a *craft* store. read more

Brought in four prints to get framed. At pick up, there were two employees one helping out front one working in the back. Waiting for 45 minutes so the front person could be done with a consultation while the back who saw us waiting did nothing. One of the frames was damaged so we had to come back and do the whole exercise again. About to hang the frames up, and each wire has a different length. So now I have to adjust each frame. Poor customer service. I have had two incidents now that are a poor reflection on this store. The first incident the listed price was different than the price that came up at checkout. It required about 20 minutes of back and forth and multiple employees to verify the price tag despite us also taking a picture and showing it to them. During the encounter the "manager" didn't agree that the item should be reduced to the posted price so she walked away and left her employee to take care of it. Gave the store a second chance a few months later. Needed to return a frame for different size but because their system showed it was on a two for one sale they only refunded me half my purchase price because they couldn't verify the information correctly from my purchase the day before. Went there to get a frame, mixed feeling about it. To start with, selection of frames was really good, lots of choices. Prices were very competitive. Modern self check-out is great, scan and leave. I spent about 20 minutes making sure I was buying the right size frame, no on offered any assistance, although a bunch of people were working there, seemed mainly stocking, definitely avoiding eye contact. The selection is extensive, even if it's a little hard to find what you're looking for, it's worth it for what they offer. There are constant sales going on, and lots of coupons to use in the Michael's app, and with my Rewards thingy I can get stuff for free sometimes! I mostly come in here to get some things framed. The staff that do the framing do a lovely job, suggesting good colors to coordinate with frames. On a frequent basis, the store has a 70% off on framing coupon, and I wait until I can use the 70% off. When you do this, it's a fabulous deal. If you don't use it, I think it's kind of pricey. The lady at the cashier at the 1019 Edwards Ferry Rd NE, Leesburg branch was not helpful at all. I had a small item (Halloween ribbon) to return last Thursday evening, and she said she will not accept it as all the Halloween items in the store are on 75% clearance. I told her she did not have to return the full value. She told me "You are not understanding what I am saying, I cannot take a return on items that are on clearance in the store." My receipt clearly said the item purchased was not on clearance when I bought it, and I wasn't asking for the full price return either. I called the Michael's Sterling branch to confirm the return policy. The lady on the phone mentioned that there are no such policies in their store. She mentioned I don't see why this item cannot be returned unless the item on the receipt was bought during clearance. She confirmed that the Sterling branch had their fall and Halloween items were on clearance too. They should be able to take the return for me. The Lady at Leesburg said, "you can talk to my managers because they made this policy." I did not want to continue arguing with this lady for a return item which had a small value. I returned it without any problem at the Sterling Branch. I thought I wanted to alert everyone just in case if you went there to return any items that are on clearance at the Michael's Leesburg branch. Not helpful at all. read more

"Jake" from Michael's in Leesburg was extremely rude and not helpful at all. He would not stop arguing with us about a miss-placed price sign. Not only did he argue with us and make us feel extremely uncomfortable during our checkout. He chased us out of the store and did not comply with social distancing laws. He specifically told us that he didn't want to be at Michael's working, he said he would rather be at home. Secondly, he added that he wishes that Virginia was like Maryland and Delaware and closed all brick and mortar stores. Ugh people like Michael M. disgust me. In a few years people will hopefully be degrading you for not knowing a second language and maybe then you'll understand that just because someone doesn't speak as fluently as you or I doesn't mean they don't work hard! Filthy! ANYHOW! I'm comparing this store to the one in Fair Lakes. This one surpasses it by a long shot. It's neat, organized, well stocked and well if you're not a complete moron it's pretty simple to navigate through all the aisles. Everything is categorized correctly and nothing seemed out of place. The one in Fair Lakes always looks like a pack of wild stay at home moms went to town on their 40% off one item coupon. So I can appreciate this store and how it's kept. They also carry A LOT of items you don't typically see at other Michael's stores like wall decor, mirrors, etc. This was a fun surprise! This is an excellent craft store that pretty much has everything you need. I would strongly suggest clipping the 40% coupon out of the Sunday coupons. I've know of people who have bought a lot of Thomas toys for deep discounts this way. Great way to get big ticket items at great prices. We moved and threw out our cheesy cheap ornaments that I got from Walmart bulk i the past. I personally bought all my christmas ornaments from them when they had 50%-70% off. The tree looks like it came out of victorian magazine and I spent $200 and it should have cost me at least double. read more

Had a horrible experience in the custom framing department at the Leesburg, VA Michaels today. The young gentleman working in the department was extremely rude and informed me that he "would not touch" the Naval Commissioning certificate that I was requesting to be custom framed. I left shaking and will never return to this store in the future. I went to the Sterling, VA store and had an amazing experience with Juana Elena! She assisted me in selecting a beautiful mat and frame. Elena was extremely helpful in every way, and I am so thankful for the wonderful customer service that she gave me. Meanwhile the manager just sat in the office looking out the glass window in the door. The one check out girl was very nice, but was doing everything herself. Great craft store for just about any type of crafting you can think of. I particularly like this place for its framing department. They do excellent work, but they're a little pricey. Much more reasonable than the custom framing done elsewhere in town (think private galleries). They have all the custom choices you could want in matts, frames, and glass. The baking section is fantastic also. In this small part of the countryside, there are no cake decorating shops, but this place has just about everything you'd need to do most decorated cakes. read more

Never ever will I return to this store. After waiting in line for 30 minutes (because they only had two cashiers working on the 2nd to last weekend before Christmas) I left empty handed. I was trying to purchase 5 items (picture frames, vanilla, and silicone baking molds), and had two coupons I wanted to use. One was 50% off one full priced item (which I wanted to use on the $20 picture frame), and another coupon that was 20% of your entire purchase. The picture frames were $20 full price, the vanilla was tagged at $6.99 on the shelf, and the silicone molds were $4.99 each (I wanted two). Yet somehow my total came to $53. How is that possible? I certainly know how to add. 20+7+5+5= 47, and that would be without coupons. Yet my total was more than that??? Neither of my coupons were expired. In fact, they were both only valid today, 12/16. And the 20% of was only good after 3pm, and it was 3:30 by the time I got to a register. When I asked the cashier why this was my total, she said she didn't know why the coupons weren't working, and that there was nothing she could do about it. When I asked who I could talk to about this, she said here was no one available at this time. So I left, and happily made my purchase on Amazon when I got home. I have never been more upset or disappointed with the lack of customer service, in any store, than I was today. Goodbye Michaels. You have lost a customer forever. read more

what a pain in the ass this place is. Hardly anyone speaks English so good luck if you need to ask where something is in the store. Ask for pencils and you're likely to be led to the aisle with cake decorating equipment. Nobody seems to know how to use the coupons they advertise weekly in the Post. (maybe if you have coupons in circulation you should train and/or post the coupons in an employee area so everyone understands them before driving a customer crazy and overcharging them). Kevin the manager seems to want to do well and listened to my plight but the fact is - he needs to hire a few competent crew members. The Michaels in Leesburg has its problems, especially with apathetic staff who are not familiar with their store or the products they carry. This is an older store (if you can call 7-8 years older), so it doesn't have the flashy layout and special sections of some of the newer Michaels stores. But even when compared to other older Michaels stores it falls flat. The product layout does not match the header signs at the ends of the aisles, and have not for quite some time. When I had trouble finding a specific product category in the aisle where the sign said it was, I asked an employee and mentioned that it wasn't where it said it was. She apologized and said they had recently reorganized the store and had not yet changed the signs. However, when I was looking for the same category last month, the signs were not right then either (and it was in still another location from this time). I have also had terrible experiences when I have tried to call to find out if they carry a specific product before driving over there. On multiple occasions I was told that they did not carry something that should have been a basic craft staple, and once was told that what I was looking for didn't exist (I was looking for paper mache letters...'nuff said). Another time, the person who answered was not familiar with the product I was asking about, and instead of checking with someone familiar with that category proceeded to tell me she had never heard of what I was asking for and was I sure it existed. After being passed around to three employees, none of whom spoke English very well or were familiar with the category that the product I was looking for belonged in, I finally got a manger who immediately checked for the product and told me they of course have it (it was another common craft supply). And as to the employees answering the phone even though they do not speak English very well, I have worked with many people from a variety of different language backgrounds and can usually understand accents that make most of my friends shake their heads in confusion, so this was not a situation of a Xenophobe not wanting to speak with someone with an accent. This was a case of someone not having basic English skills answering the phone when they should not have. Probably the worst experience I have had at this store was when I purchased a few items at around 10 minutes until closing time, was double charged for one of the items, realized it when I reached my car (at 5 minutes until closing time), tried to go back in to rectify the problem, and found the door already locked. When I asked to be let back in so they could fix the problem, the cashier said she couldn't because the cash drawers were already out of the registers (keep in mind this is 5 minutes BEFORE closing time). When I asked if it would be okay for me to come back tomorrow to get it fixed, she rudely rolled her eyes at me and sarcastically offered to give me the money out of her pocket (sans tax of course, since she did not seem capable of understanding that the price marked on the item was not the same as the price actually paid). Of course I refused because 1)that is dishonest and 2)at this point I realized the manager needed to hear about what was going on when s/he was not there so I had already decided to return the next day. Meanwhile, as I was speaking to them, a customer who was STILL in the store came up and tried to check out (at 3 minutes before closing) and they refused. Although the manager was very nice and immediately fixed the problem the next day, it is quite clear that the non-management employees at this location have some serious issues, primarily revolving around their lack of interest in their store or products. While it is common among many big-box stores for the day-to-day employees to be somewhat apathetic, the problem goes to the extreme at this location, making for an inconvenient and unpleasant shopping experience more often than not. I would not recommend this location of Michaels. Alternatives include: A.C. Moore in Ashburn Village; Joann Fabric and Crafts on Ft. Evans in Leesburg; or Ben Franklin on Cactoctin Circle in Leesburg as some local choices, or if you are willing to drive elsewhere, another location of Michaels. Disclaimer--I do work for a competing craft store part time. However, this review is based solely on my personal experience with this Michaels location. Furthermore, I have recommended multiple options as a replacement for shopping here, including my employer as well as other competitors, and have not recommended one over another. read more

Unfriendly, low quality service. I tried to get this store to make a simple mat for a framed painting I own. There was no one at the framing desk. I waited for a while and then called out several times but no one responded. I finally walked behind the counter and there was a man within earshot who was completely ignoring me. When I tried to get him to look at my painting he said the frame was broken (it isn't) and that he "didn't repair frames". All I wanted was for him to cut a mat, but that evidently was beyond his pay scale (or education). read more

Framing dept. was terrible. When I called to check on an order, after 4 calls and 25 mins on hold, Stephen in framing immediately started screaming for my last name although I also had an order number I was trying to give him, and just said "last name!!! There are 50 people here!" I was shocked and asked him to stop yelling at me and lose the attitude and he hung up on me. I went to the store, as had just been around the corner, and strangely they were not 50 people there?? Steven would not come out from the back, much less greet me as I stood there waiting to be helped. Finally after saying hello, and explained who I was he again could not of been more rude. Luckily, Sheena, the store manager, came and helped me and was wonderful! She said how sorry she was, and she got my painting for me and gave me a $10 coupon on my next purchase. Sheena was the fantastic and is the only reason why I will continue to shop here. Sorry Steven, maybe you can go somewhere that doesn't involve any customers. read more

My husband and I were next in line at Micheal's. My husband asked me a question as I was about to step to the counter as I was now my turn, I turned towards my husband to respond to him and as I headed to the counter, the cashier told the customer standing behind me to step the the register. I told the cashier, I am right here. And she proceeded to ring up the other customer's items. She stated, "she didn't have time to wait for me". The cashier told me that if I didn't like it there was nothing I could do and that I could take her name. Then she yanked her name badge off and slammed it on the counter and said she "didn't care and that she could find another job". I asked for her manager who proceeded to tell me that "that's not like her". I asked the manager if he thought that type of behavior was ok? He said, "no". I did not purchase the item I wanted. I left the store. I will never purchase anything from a Michaels store again. I only gave this store one star because I didn't have the option to give it a zero. read more

I've been here multiple times but this last time was a terrible experience. I came in at 8:30pm, the store closes at 9pm. I would think 30 minutes was enough time to browse, find what I needed and be done by 9pm. As soon as I walked in the store workers didn't greet me but proceeded to ignore me and rudely make an announcement that shoppers needed to wrap up their shopping as the store was closing. Please note it was 8:30pm, we still had 30 minutes. The workers proceeded to make announcements every 5 minutes to the few shoppers that were still browsing. It was 8:45pm and I worked walked pass the aisle I was in and louder yelled to the front there's 3 more over here. Another worker quickly got on the loud speaker and continued to rush us and tell us the store was closing. I finished making my selections at 8:50 and went straight to the register where I was rudely greeted by the workers and rushed out the door. When I gotta the exist there was an employee there standing at the sliding exit doors. She had her hands on the door ready to slide it shut as soon as I walked through. However the doors were already slid almost closed so I literally had to turn side ways just to get out of the store. She was rude, didn't even acknowledge me and slammed the doors shut as soon as I was 1nch away. DONT GO HERE IF YOU WANT TO BE RESPECTED IN AWAY WAY! WORKERS ARE RUDE AND RUSH YOU TO LEAVE!!!! 2-starts at best. My most recent experience was with the framing department. A previous reviewer said it best... I experienced an overwhelmingly apathetic approach by three different employees in the framing department (both in person and over the phone). My worst experiences were with the two men. They are both in their mid 40's, both with glasses and balding (don't mean in a negative way just describing). They rubbed me the wrong way... but it wasn't just me as two of the three times I had to go in to the store for the order they just finished for me I watched other customers have very bad experiences (one was noticeably upset and grabbed her painting and left). The other employee was a younger heavy-set girl who it's clear has no interest in being there. Aside from being rude, standoffish and making it abundantly clear that they don't care about your painting or what you're trying to do... they aren't very knowledgeable at all. One of the guys recommended spray painting a frame that was set to go on a fairly nice and pricier than usual painting. I could go on and on but I'll leave it at this... I will never return to Michaels for any custom work again. If I need supplies I'll stop by, but if I need custom work... I'd rather pay a little more $$$ to get better options, service, knowledge and overall experience. read more
