I want to be clear that I am reviewing this Michaels - not Michael stores everywhere. I have been in several times and I have found the staff to be less than helpful. Twice I have been told they don't have what I'm looking for - and then I found it on the shelves. You have to work hard to track down someone to help. Maybe that's okay if you know exactly what you want - but if you need help find a different store. They do have a good selection, though. read more

if you're an arts & crafts freak and you don't like Michael's... you're smoking some serious crizzack. (crack) most people like shopping at small shops and non-chains, but in the suburbs in Lynnwood/Edmonds- you've got nothing but chains. they love it. we love. everyone loves it. this store is huge and relocated, too. bigger and better- it moved right near the mall. the parking gets a little out of hand; which Marshalls next door and crazy bargain hunters taking up space. there's an extensive list of products and material in this store. it's huge and you can seriously get lost in reading How-to books and feeling fabric. i can spend hours in here. don't come here if you're in a hurry and impatient as a motherf*cker... because the staff WILL proceed to ignore you. you ask for them to cut you a few yards of fabric... but with no one helping you, you want to grab the scissors yourself and cut it. i love all the discounts and sales whenever it's near a holiday. my mother likes buying all her yarn and supplies from here, too. we frequent here every year when i visit. read more

Big and clean store, but they have issues with their coupon policy. I tried to buy some E6000 fabric glue using their ubiquitous 40%off coupon. But they told me that I could not use it because it was an "everyday value" product. I heard them tell another customer the same thing about the item she was trying to purchase. Seems like it's an arbitrary designation, but it certainly means that you cannot use coupons on items that have not been marked up 50+% over average local prices. Meaning, they mark up most of their items way above average so you think you're getting a good deal using a 40% off coupon on your single item, while you pay way over retail on everything else in your basket. After my awful experience at the Kirkland Michaels (you can see that review), I ran into this Michaels at 8:50 the night before I needed to complete my halloween costume. This store is big and no one saw me run in at the last minute. It is much bigger and more well-organized than the Kirkland store. The lady points me to the feathers, but alas, they are sold out of the black again! I feel defeated and I see a staff member. I tell her I came for black feathers and the Kirkland store said they had 13 in stock. She told me I could have had them call to put it on hold and I told her the Kirkland staff didn't want to help me and told me to just go instead of calling. She looks completely horrified by her colleagues and tells me they are probably in the boxes above and she will be right back with a ladder. Keep in mind its 8:55-9 by now. She returns with a ladder and looks through two boxes until she finds 3 bags of feathers for me. The manager is also there and says "sorry to rush you. Is there anything else or can I help you ring that up?" I quickly go to the cash register and afterwards the manager apologizes again and thanks me for my business as I leave. Thank you to the lady who went above and beyond (literally) to help me with a $6 purchase! Kirkland Michaels, please take a lesson from your colleagues! I've also been here to take a cake decorating class from Wilton and it was good, clean (but fat) fun. This is a good store. read more

Believe it or not, I was having a hard time finding yarn in Seattle. Not so much because of a lack of yarn shops --- quite the opposite, in fact. Knitting shops are easy to find here, all of them stocked with beautifully hand-dyed, natural-animal-fiber yarn... and all of which cost $10-20 per ball. But as a beginning knitter, who's still limited to basic, simple projects, it doesn't make much sense to buy expensive gourmet yarns that I can't really do justice to. And with Xmas looming, I needed affordable yarn that I could buy in large quantities to make gifts. Goodbye schmancy yarn boutique, hello Michael's! Say what you will about chains, but sometimes it's nice that they're all laid out in the same way, so you can march right into one for the first time and know exactly where everything is. This Michael's is quite large, and has a pretty decent selection of craft and art supplies, from beads to oil paints to rubber stamps. They don't sell fabric or notions, and I've never really understood why --- instead, they have a framing department with pre-made frames or custom orders. They also offer pre-made custom flower arrangements that are seasonally appropriate --- as of now, 11/8, their fall arrangements are 70% off on clearance, and Xmas ones are just starting to appear. There's also a pretty impressive selection of holiday dcor, ornaments, Xmas trees, and holiday crafts, including some craft and hobby kits ($12-20) that would make great gifts for kids. Heck, I'd still be happy to receive the knitting-machine or pottery wheel sets under my tree as an adult! Like all chains, the staff has mastered the art of invisibility and/or Rushing By Looking Really Busy so you don't have time to flag them down. But when the customer in front of me at checkout claimed that a $1.79 tube of fabric paint should have been $0.89 on sale, the cashier called for a price check and the employee went and looked, brought back the sign, and politely explained why that particular item wasn't on sale --- so there is customer service to be had, if you can find them. And, really, part of the fun of a craft store is wandering around aimlessly and browsing for hours, anyway. I walked out of there with eleven balls of yarn and a huge hot-cocoa-scented jar candle (you really do need one, they're only $5 and they smell amazing) for just over $40 --- or the price of one ball of cashmere yarn, as seen in a knitting boutique recently. For the beginning knitter on a budget who's facing the Xmas countdown, the choice seems clear --- although since the store is waaaay out in Lynnwood, be sure to make a list in advance, so you only have to make one trip! read more

Come here to get your inner Martha Stewart working. They carry tons of crafts, scrapbooks, artificial flowers, candles, all kinds of stuff to DIY. You can make so much stuff it's not even funny. Even if you're not so creatively inclined, they offer classes on fake flower arranging, to arts and crafts. Or you can pick up the many books that show you how to be creative. In the time of our economy, you can make people gifts. Isn't that what it's all about? A gift from the heart? That or you can spend your credit card and buy something. The choice is yours. I avoid this place during peak hours though, you have slow grandmas and "crafty" mean women who will just bump into your or get in your way. I swear some people who shop here are possessed by their inner evil Martha Stewart! read more

I buy craft supplies probably once or twice a week. I have visited a ton of craft supply stores and this is one of the worst. The staff here are miserable and it shows. No one is greeted. The staff actively avoids customers. If you track someone down you will be lucky if they even know what you are talking about and luckier if they can point you in the right direction. The store is clean and the parking is easy other than that the quality and variety is sub par. The prices are not very competitive but with coupons and sales you could certainly do worse. I imagine it's just a matter of time before the wal mart next door puts them out of business and considering how unhappy and unhelpful the employees here are it won't bother me. I'll just go to Hobby Lobby down the street or if I have time I'll go to the Joanns in lynnwood. read more

Ok. Michaels contact me about the promotion that was emailed to me that wasn't expired and about the poor customer service. The manager of this store called me to apologize & substituted the free canvas panels with 9×12 not 8×10 since they didn't have it. This place can be pretty overwhelming if you go in unprepared. The possibilities are endless! They almost always have sales going on. Over the years, their inventory has decreased in "usability" for me. I used to go here to get all my wood craft stuff and scrap booking things. Their wood section has decreased in size but the quality is still there. These days the main reason I stop in is for canvas. They have a pretty good selection of different sizes and qualities. The only down size is that they are pretty expensive. I have to be prepared to take a big hit to my bank account when I go in. They have an ok selection of acrylic paint but again, pricey. I tried using this place to shop for yarn for my knitting projects but their selection isn't as big as other places. read more

I've practically lived here the last 2 weeks prepping for my wedding. They have a nice staff (when you can find them) but the aisles are too small to have more than 1 person at a time in them and the place is absolute chaos. But you can't beat the coupons that are always available. I would give them 5 stars if they cleaned up the store a bit and didn't jam every aisle with 4-ways of crap making me feel like a rat in a maze. read more

It was easy to customize and I saved a ton of money, especially with the 50% off coupon that comes up every so often. They have other great items if you want to be crafty. I like this Michael's store. I come here whenever I have to buy things for my knitting or crafts. Its clean and has a good selection of items which are always in stock. If you like scrapbooking, I think youll like it here! They also give out 50% off item coupons every once in awhile which is awesome. If youre getting married, Id recommend this place to you as well, because they have so many decorations for weddings. Tip: Towards the end of the summer, they put a lot of wedding stuff on sale since 'wedding season' is coming to a close. read more

I only go here to buy yarn I could not find at JoAnn. The prices are fair enough, but the whole place has a somewhat cheap, flea-market, rundown Wal-mart vibe. I go in quickly and leave just as quickly. read more

My mother has gotten an item framed in an Arizona store, but in the shipping processes of getting it to Washington it was damaged. My mother and I took it into the this location to see how much repairs would be. Bobbie and Kathy from the framing department offered to do the repairs for free. This store had great prices and a great selection of many different types of arts and crafts. Their ad was great and it seemed like everything was on sale. It seems small on the inside because they have every inch of that store filled up with stuff. I went in there to find a craft to do with my kids over Winter break and walked out with tons of crafts !!!! read more

I loved shopping at Michael's I don't know what happened to them. I go shopping at a craft stores at least 3-4 times a week (work and hobbies), because of poor customer service from the manager on down...Michael's is off my list. I went by Hobby Lobby I noticed a huge difference in the vibe of the store...employees acted like they wanted to help you. The were smiling and asked if they could help me find something......and they do the same coupon. I thought it was just me when at the counter a women was talking to another woman saying " She doesn't like shopping at Michaels because they are always disorganized and unfriendly" Wow...Michael's fix yourself to many other places to shop....I did notice Michaels was higher priced also in the thing I shop for.....High prices and Poor customer service!
