The company may carry a lot of items, but what is actually in stock at the store feels much less. I feel like I get lucky if they actually have what I want in stock. Their delivery service is also worthless. I provided VERY explicit instructions for how to find my apartment, including instructions to call me if there were any difficulties in finding it, and noting that they should ONLY leave the package directly at my door. They never called, and wound up delivering my purchase to someone else, effectively stealing my money. I would not trust this company with another delivery. Everything I have ever needed for scrapbooking, knitting, crocheting, painting, etc has been found here. The folks who work here are helpful and they are almost always pretty well stocked. Most recently I came in here to pick up a couple of frames for some artwork I received for Christmas. The woman working at the framing department was so helpful and knowledgable and helped me get exactly what I was hoping for. She made a task that was anxiety-producing a breeze and my needlepointed craft piece is now hanging happily on my wall. I didn't catch her name but I'm so grateful to her for helping me with my project and cutting the matte to the size I needed while I waited. The second frame I got was for a poster that was 11 x 17 and I was impressed with how many options they had at everyday low prices. Unfortunately I didn't look closely at what I thought was a piece of lint or thin scrap plastic under the plastic wrap so when I got home and took off the wrapper and realized there was a hairline crack in the middle of the glass it was too late to do anything about it. I wish there were a Michaels closer to where I live and also I wish the employees would examine the frames before they let you checkout with them to prevent you having to return some other time. read more

I was in this Michaels recently, and was extremely saddened and upset to see the painting supplies completely wiped out. It was like a barren wasteland of sadness. Not just that, but the sketching supplies, calligraphy, paint brushes(especially Princetons, shocking that the Princeton brushes are wiped out completely except for maybe a handful of brushes, but all the cheaper ones like W&N Cotman & Artist's Loft were in supply a-plenty. I know that's not the employees fault, plus we DID just have Black Friday & Christmas, and New Years sales so maybe that's why it was wiped out (just havent gotten a shipment in yet I hope?). I'm hoping to come back in the future after a while and see if it's fully stocked again, or if that poor store just never gets to new shipments in of their painting supplies. All in all, that was sad, and the poor shelves looked like they had seen better says but were hanging in there for the long haul. OH ALSO. To CUSTOMERS who shop in this store--WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU? Obviously y'all were never taught to clean up after yourselves or put things back where you got them, because after I was sad about basically everything being out of stock, I spent a while going up and down the paint supplies & sketching materials aisles, putting things back where you imbeciles so kindly decided to leave them for the employees. If you don't want something, put it back. I can only imagine the state of your homes, vehicles and anywhere you frequent often being abhorrently in disarray & disgusting as all get out. CLEAN UP YO MESSES Michael's staff is not there to follow you around and watch over you because you're an actual toddler in an adult body. I love to make crafts from wood, and it is difficult to find wood crafts that have been cut out, ready to be painted anymore. However, at this Micheal's, I have found some awesome things for Halloween and Christmas. They had an advent calendar with 25 boxes that pull out and some 4' trees with holes drilled in them to add lights. Also got a skeleton and a witch to paint. The calendar was $40 - ouch! - and the trees were $20 each. I got the Halloween ones for $10 each. I've been to this Micheal's location a few times with my mom to purchase supplies to make cards. We make all of our own cards for the holidays, birthdays, etc. The paper packets and individual papers you can buy here are fantastic, so cute and go from inexpensive and simple to the super glitzy. Also, they have a great section here for scrapbooking which is another hobby I have. Whenever I've come in, the cashiers have been friendly and helpful. There's always a coupon to be found for Micheal's. Look in the mailer you get in your mailbox. These guys have a great selection of virtually any basic craft supplies. They have some of the best prices around on this kind of stuff. They're nice people who don't discriminate against customers based on religion, etc. (Some retailers in the hobby/craft world have that problem, even though it's the 21st century). Anyway, politics and basics aside, here's what's on offer: This is one of the more twisted-around sections of strip mall outside the main mall at Alderwood. Clearly visible from the freeway, but if you don't come to Lynnwood much, you should listen carefully to your phone as you navigate here. It's pretty huge. What's inside is linoleum, fluorescent lights, and rows and rows and rows of inexpensive metal display shelves. They kinda have the bargain retail starter kit in effect. You come here for the good prices, not for the lavish merchandising. There's also a powerful fragrance of synthetic floral perfume mixed with potpourri everywhere in the store. The merchandise isn't all granny, but the smell kinda is. I came in for picture frames, and I can confirm that there are plenty to choose from--about two aisles' worth. Prices were very good; better than other stores or most places online. Seems like I'm always framing something, and I really dig the prices here. Service is generally just there to stock shelves and do the other basics. They're not really craft consultants or question-and-answer specialists for the most part. They're nice, but they kinda keep to themselves, at least when it's slow and they're catching up on side work. They do have a couple information desks for things like framing and whatnot, and those people are nice. Bottom line, the prices are great, and I love having them here. But since their prices are so good, they don't add any extras on top of what's for sale. read more

Don't fall for the online promise of same day delivery on orders ordered before 2pm. I placed an order well in advance only to call the store at 9:30 pm to and connected to the "person who knows about same day orders. Her name was Teresa and she looked my order up and and told me my stuff was not even retrieved and packaged yet! She was very nonchalant and seemed to not even care. She sounded stoned. I asked what the next step would be or when it would be packaged and she said she didn't know. My frustration and anger was met with nothing! No empathy or attempt to make it right in any way. Had a framing job done recently. It was a canvas wrap and I wanted a good frame. Jess took the order with great detail and was professional and friendly. Got the finished product back and couldn't be happier. Reasonable amount of time. I would say my only gripe is their proprietary no wires hanging system. I don't really like. It was complicated and I needed to get help. Really needs two people IMHO. The dimple impression was very hard to see in the wall. If you are off by a smidge the plastic tabs won't fit in the slots and you don't have the flexibility to adjust the picture like you do with wire. Just don't like it and it took me a lot longer to hang. read more

I went in to the store to ask if I could get a box to mail a frame. I asked the woman in the frame shop and she wouldn't even give me the courtesy of coming out and talking to me, she had to yell from across the frame shop. She told me that they don't get small boxes that everything gets shipped on pallets and the frames come in giant boxes. No, they don't. I worked for the company and I know how the freight is shipped. Frames can either come individually packed or there can be multiple in a box. It all varies. So she not only lied but she was rude and dismissive. When I was with the company we always put boxes aside for customers if they wanted any. A nice gesture goes a long way. read more

Michael's has always been a second choice for me to Joann's when it comes to mega-craft stores. What with their unrealistically high shelving, soul-sucking fluorescent lighting, and oppressive overflowing displays of fake flowers, it's hard not to feel a little icky after strolling through here for some creative inspiration. HOWEVER, this is a small price to pay for some great deals for scrapbookers. I also bought a fabulous HUGE mirror for $30 once and have hung it over my mantle. They have a great, and improving selection of scrapbook gear, including some nice American Crafts and Basic Grey pattern paper value packs. Plus, the use of their 40% coupon makes anything on sale whenever you want/need it. While I save my indulgent pattern paper and embellishment purchasing for my favorite local scrapbooking stores, I come here for staples like adhesives, cardstocks, organizational tools, etc. Between their regular sales and their coupons, they can't be beat (except by Joann's) for stuff like this. read more

I had a fabulous experience at this Michael's! For a Christmas gift I bought a huge frame which was around $80 (which I did get on sale for $40). On Christmas Eve, I was taking it out to my car and the top piece broke off the frame, and the glass fell out of the bottom and it shattered on my front doorstep. I was extremely emotional, because I was heading to my mothers house for Christmas and how was I to tell her I broke her gift that I had spent so much time on gathering pictures and putting it all together. I decided I would attempt to go return it and be able to swap it for another one exactly the same... I will tell you I did not have high expectations, I was expecting to pay for another one at the NON sale price. To my surprise, I took it in and told them my story. The gal called her manager over, and without hesitation, she said just let her swap it for another one! OMG, it was a Christmas miracle! I wish I would have gotten her name because she was an angel! She turned a crappy situation around and made my Christmas! read more

What a mess! My quest was simple: I was shopping for yarn and a pattern. Sounds easy, no? Well, read on... My first obstacle was actually getting to the yarn. Most of the aisles were blocked by carts full of stock. The yarn itself was blocked by a cart full of yarn waiting to be put on the shelves. I pushed that cart out of the way so I could see and reach the yarn. I found the 3 skeins I was looking for, but I also wanted to find a pattern and get much more yarn. I couldn't find a pattern I liked, so I headed up to the books. I had to push past no less than 5 carts, mostly empty to get to the books. What I found at the book section was awful. There were cardboard boxes precariously stacked about 7 or 8 feet high spanning the whole length of the aisle. I kid you not. My husband and I removed some of the boxes so I could see behind them to some of the books, but it was useless and I gave up. On our way to the checkstand, I noticed a small rack of magazines with one knitting magazine. I pushed past yet another cart, moving it into the breakroom to get to the magazines. Someone pushed the cart aside and came out of the breakroom and asked if there was a problem. This was the first employee we saw. My husband explained that we couldn't get to the books or the magazines and asked if they were going to be cleared any time soon. The person who asked said no, she didn't think so, pushed the cart out of her way - effectively blocking me in with the magazines, and went back into the breakroom. At this point I gave up and shoved a few more carts out of my way, paid for my 3 skeins of yarn and went a couple of miles down the road to Joann. Joann, incidentally, had also gotten a large shipment in the night before and they were stocking shelves too but they were bringing things into the store one cart at a time and were VERY considerate about moving them out of the customer's way. They also offered to assist me several times during my visit there, which was only done during my visit at Michael's when I annoyed them by pushing the cart into the breakroom. Since the store's prices are the same, the selection is the same, and they are very close to each other, I'm thinking I will stick to shopping at Joann from now on. Clearly their purpose is to serve the customer, not stock shelves and push carts around. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. read more

I wish I could give a higher rating, but my chief reason for visiting here is for crochet supplies, and on this score, Michaels has failed me. I have two chief disappointments that I would love to see addressed by their management: 1. Meager Selection: To my great surprise, Michaels has has practically nothing beyond the most mundane and pedestrian crochet implements. No circular hooks, exactly one Tunisian hook, and larger hooks are catch-as-catch-can and frequently unavailable to purchase individually when they're available at all. In my case, I went to find a Tunisian size P hook. They didn't even have a regular size P. I finally found one at WalMart of all places. The stock in trade of this store is crafting, and fiber crafts are the most basic craft of all. Even if certain items don't fly off the shelves, it beggars belief that they can't stock at least a token amount just to have them available. 2. Customer Service: Most of the floor workers are nice enough, and I was glad to be asked by the cashier whether I'd found everything all right, etc. I took this solicitation of my feedback as an opportunity to report, in a very friendly way, on the scanty supply of crochet implements. The cashier's response floored me. She said something basically to the effect of "oh yeah, they only have that little space on the wall back there, right?" And then... crickets. Tumbleweeds. Wow, way to jot that down as my feedback for your management, or offer to help me find or even ask about what I came in for that wasn't available. I stood there poleaxed for about five seconds before it dawned on me that she did, indeed, not give a rip about my feedback. While I'm at it, one last thing -- let the new visitor beware of the gimmicky pricing strategy here. They routinely seem to offer preposterously high discount coupons, 40% and 50% off any given single item with certain exceptions. In order to sustain that model without going broke, it seems pretty obvious they have to overprice things first. As a customer, all this does is make me wonder how many times I've paid almost twice the best price for want of a coupon. read more

My biggest beef with Michael's is that I feel like I just walked into a huge Crafty Flea Market. And not in a good way. Nothing is laid out in an organized matter. There's always random things on random shelves where they obviously do not belong. There's items on the floor constantly. I can never find a staff member to help me when I'm looking for a specific item. However, it's way easier to go to Michael's then 196th's Joann's if I'm not in need of fabric and just need art supplies. read more

Lynnwood has many, many craft stores throughout the city-- mostly big box fellas but with a few specialty boutiques. This is one of the oldest big box crafters that anchors the former Nordstrom Rack location in a strip mall at the southern perimeter of the Alderwood Mall property. Like all national hobby stores, always look for the coupons in the weekly paper (Sundays for Michaels) where you can save big (40-50% off one item) on regularly overpriced items. Others like Bed, Bath & Beyond send mailers (20% off) and Hobby Lobby has its coupons on its website. I have been to most of these stores and I prefer the layout here. It is mostly setup for customers to do a "square" dance but anyone can cut through the midsection to quickly access those categories in the deep recesses far from the cash registers (unlike BB&B). And, the store is mid-sized (unlike Hobby Lobby) so, again, it's very easy to navigate through all the frilly seasonal junk to get to your destination. When I was teaching a club of enthusiastic middle-schoolers, I needed specific supplies for an art project and Michaels was the only place that had what I was looking for. If you have kids, this is a great place for them to look around as they do have toys but most of the goodies are meant to constructively improve their creativity through doing, instead of watching. And, again, always arm yourself with coupons and you can save a lot of money here. read more

Do I really need a 25X25 Carebear latchhooking set? Absolutely not, but my friends who like carebears are moving soon and maybe if I finish in time, it could be a cool housewarming gift. i do love michaels, period! any Michael's as a matter of fact, they just have the cutest items and inventory on most things are always in stock. if you are a scrapbooker, sticker collector, working on an arts project, this is the place to be. great for holiday and seasonal shopping. also, they always have coupons avail, either through your mobile app, online or email. be sure to get those because they vary between 40% off a full priced item or 20% off entire purchase including sale. the only reason i can't give michaels a 5 star is because the associates are there just to cash you out or stock inventory. i stopped asking associates for help because no one, seriously, no one, even managers can help answer craft questions. sometimes i see new ideas for crafts on sale and when i ask what the product is about and how to use it, i get a deer in headlights look. it actually happened today when i asked a manager about a card project. sigh....what i take away from this is that i just need to go online and research it on my own. check out lines can be long and patience can be tested (yourself and other customers). read more

I go to this Michaels location a lot, usually for frames or random craft stuff. I'm not a big crafter, but this store does have a lot more than just craft items and it is THE place to go for frames (make sure you bring one of their coupons with you or wait for 50% off specials though!). They have a wide selection of all kinds of items - pretty much everything crafty you can imagine. Scrapbooking items, ribbon, jewelry/beads, floral items, etc. It's a pretty packed store, mostly in a good way. During the holidays, though, it is far too packed and they have huge displays down the center of the main aisles. This makes it nearly impossible to get through the store without nearly running into someone or knocking something off a rack. Annoying! Also, I have never ever seen slower check-out registers in my LIFE. They are always half a dozen people deep regardless of the time of day or number of open registers. Cashiers are always moving slowly, fumbling with items, cash, coupons, whatever, and it takes eons to get through. So frustrating! Overall, this store is okay, but be prepared to WAIT when you are ready to leave. I know I'll be back here plenty since I am always buying frames (I have an art addiction, okay? Leave me alone!), but things could definitely be set up a bit better. read more

Holy lord, this place is pure insanity. I'm not really an artsy-fartsy, crafty kid, but when you've been forced to take a sabbatical and the only company you keep is your pest of a dog you make sacrifices. My mom LOVES to make her own shit. She frames her own pictures, she sews, embroiders and crochets. Did she force this craziness on me? Of course she did! And since I'm poor this year, Christmas will be HANDMADE. I come here for the beads and jewelry making stuff (ooo, shiny things!), cross-stitching kits (yes, I'm that weird), and I've recently taken up crochet (I'm not good at it.....yet). I also decided that I would take up a secret gift project that will probably make my mother sob. Michael's has had everything I need and WAY more. One of the things that I love is that when you purchase something, they give you a coupon for 20-40% off with your receipt. Talk about making me want to come back soon! Sure, I'll take 40% off my next purchase! I haven't experienced the (joy?) that is customer service here. In fact, the only interaction I've had with staff is the cashier. Not that they're inconsiderate or anything, just nonchalant. One day, I hope to actually speak with a staff member on the floor who might be able to direct my constantly changing mind. Distracted easily? Don't go to Michaels without a project in mind. I have spend (literally) hours wandering the aisles thinking to myself, "I could totally use that" or "maybe I should learn to make flower arrangements". This store is huge! Well stocked! I spent at least an hour wandering all the aisles and if they were open later I would have been there even longer. On a whim I bought some chocolate molds and chocolate and I'm going to try my hand at this. I bought duplicate items at a different Michaels and was able to return the items no questions asked. The store was a bit messy but I think it's because of the time of year with all the shopping insanity. It seems like the store is trying to keep it organized. I overheard the manager request one of the employees to clean up the area near the front door as I was on my way out. The parking situation is not the best. It seems like there is not enough parking for all the shops in the strip plus the Marshalls and Michaels that share the lot. read more

I love Michaels! I always end up spending much more time there than I need too... and more money. I do quite a bit of card making, work with collage materials, and other projects and I am able to find just about everything I need there to make my arts and crafts heart all content and warm and fuzzy. It is particularly good if you are trying to buy stamping or scrapbooking type materials and shop for the stuff that is on sale. There is just about ALWAYS scrapbooking stickers of one brand or another on sale for about 40% off so I go and buy the ones that are on sale. You can also sign up to receive their weekly email, which always has great coupons either for money off of a single item or a percentage off of your entire bill. The Sunday newspaper also usually has coupons for Michaels. I agree with some of the other Yelpers that the store is a bit cramped. They are trying to put a LOT into a little space and definitely need more room. But I still love shopping there, I consider it an arts and crafts adventure. It's one of my happy places. When I go to Michaels I look for nothing but sale/clearance items. . . I always walk away with something knowing I'll find a use for it later! There's rarely anyone on the sales floor to help you here, but that's retail I get it they run on probably very few hours. Today I ran in to get a couple of things, waited and waited in line just two cashiers which is kind of the norm I think. Finally another cashier came up to help, but rather than take the legitimate NEXT customer, she just gets on a register and yells "Next Customer" and of course some woman who was behind me in line just felt so entitled she walked over and got rung up ahead of me who had been waiting longer. I've mentioned this to this store before hoping it would make a difference, but clearly no. There is nothing here I can't get at another crafts store or online. OK - Michael's is a great place to find inexpensive, low to medium quality yarn. Don't look there for the designer stuff. It's a super place to find silk flowers and the scrapbooking section is intense. You can find just about any craft item you can imagine, and a lot more you never thought of... The customer service isn't bad - it's just not happening. The only reason this store doesn't get a five star rating is this is where my debit card MAY have been scanned by a bad guy employee, thereby causing the bank to cancel my card and reissue a new one. Hours on the phone and literally months before I got all my automatic payments back on line. I will not forgive or forget for a very long time. read more
