I came here on the search for some cobalt blue ribbon and yellow ribbon to make my sister a lei for her graduation. Apparently those colors are very popular school colors, so it was hard to find. I first asked a lady if she had any in stock, but just said no and walked away. Really? You are just going to leave me hanging like that? I flag her down again to see if she can call another store to see if they had any stock. She took me over to register, and told me to wait as she called another associate to the front. She basically just stood at the register, and did... NOTHING. Why couldn't she help me? I don't know... The other associate comes over, and I ask him if he can call another store to see if there's any stock available. He just says to me I can give you phone numbers of the stores. I insisted that he call for me since they have done it before, and my cell phone was running out of battery. He couldn't even tell me which other store was the closest to this store... I had to go on my phone to look on the website to find out that Coleman was the closest store. I asked him to call the Coleman location, but he DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO USE THE DAMN PHONE. He tried a few times, and failed. How can you not know how to use the phone? I got frustrated, so I decided to grab another kind of ribbon that was more expensive just in case I couldn't find blue ribbon. But, by this time, a line formed at the register, and I waited 20 min to check out... When it was finally my turn... dun dun duuuunnn... I had to check out at the incompetent guy's register. He rings me up, and says my total is $13. I ask him how 4 spools of ribbon that is on sale for 2 for $3 can ring up to $13. He insisted that the ribbon I grabbed was not the ones on sale! I pulled up the ad on my phone, and it said "Celerbrate It Spool Ribbon Yellow Label 2 for $3." That was exactly what I was trying to purchase. Then he basically shut down and didn't know what to do. I asked him to adjust the price, and he tells me he can't do that. I asked him to call the manager up, and finally after 10 min of explaining to like 3 different layers of people, they finally adjusted the price. I'm never coming back here again. read more

A little disappointed in the customer service because my friend and I got an item but wanted to use the same coupon but different transactions. She made me pull up ANOTHER coupon from another phone just to do that EVEN THOUGH THE BAR CODE WAS THE SAME. We have done it before as long as it's each of us are doing a separate transaction. Waste of time to search for "another" coupon and created a line; that's what they get for a unnecessary request. More like a 2.5 - in general, Michael's is a great craft store that has most everything you need for your projects and they have weekly coupons that you can use...I visited this particular store for the first time and was amazed at how ridiculously long the line was getting and how s-l-o-w checkout was. There wasn't a huge crowd of folks, it was just so slow that it seemed really busy. The store was busy on Sunday when we were there looking for craft project for a upcoming Baptism. While shopping with my friends and and 1 of their babies ( My soon to be god child) a woman approach me in the store handing me a flyer. Mind you she doesn't work for the store and I don't know her and she is offering Baby sitting services. This was bothersome to me to be solicited in the store. Let's just say that this store is "organized chaos." I went to this Michaels to pick up more fun fur because it was on the way to my parents' house. Once you enter the store, you feel like you've been slammed with all this merchandise in your face! It was cramped and felt like a maze trying to find where you needed to go. Finally found the yarn aisle, and they did NOT have what I needed! Ugh what an upset. No basic colors available in stock - no blue, no black, no white, only bright colors. I ended up getting an alternative yarn for my nephew's fur lei, and I hope it works out. I won't be returning to this Michaels unless its truly necessary. read more

If it weren't for Wal-Mart, would anyone be going to McCarthy Ranch? All the stores there are empty so you'll never have to worry about parking and quite frankly, it's rather depressing. Michaels and that furniture store across the street are probably in the worst shape in this plaza. This Michaels location is tiny compared to other locations so the aisles are naturally cramped with merchandise and people. The employees here are nice but if you have to go to a Michaels, try the ones in San Jose or Fremont. read more

Customer Service: is always bad here. Eversince I started going here, I don't think I ever had a good pleasant experience. The cashier clerks never care whether a customer cut in front of you. And, I gotta tell you though...there are very rude and unclassy customers. As soon as they see a cashier free up, they disregard that you were in line ahead of them and they immediately run over. Cashiers knowing this, they do not do anything about it. VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE at this location. If I was the cashier, I'd be fair and say..."sorry but that person was ahead of you"...and you want to stay classy and not make a big deal out of it although you politely ask out loud to the cashier..."is there one line? ...but the cashier just ignores you. Every single one of the workers there are rude and unpleasant. It isn't a pleasant place to shop but you go because everything's there. Oh, and the cashiers are very slow. Crafts/Materials: They do have everything and everything is there and it is convenient. Parking: Shared with anchor stores like Loehmans, etc. Price/Coupons/Discounts: Their policy which makes no sense... is ONE coupon per person only! So if you are gonna buy several items with several coupons, you better bring a sister, a brother, or heck the whole family to buy each item for you. I wonder if they will know if we came back 5 times that day. hrrrmmm...so I figured, okay...I'll just come back 1/2 hour each one item purchase for each of my items. Overall: I'd give them 1 star for service but..... because they have everything I need AND... it is convenient...and they do have coupons ...so that is the reason why I give them 2 stars. Birthdays at Michael s!!!!! Do Not ever THINK to make it there.. !! the store is Not prepared at all to such events, although the prints & the website shows something organized and many projects ... What happened when I booked a party for my daughters 8th Birthday , we choose a project ,, suppose to be fun for 12 child for 2 hours.. it turned that the store sent an employee that never used or trained to the main machine the project depending on!! The poor employee spent the whole time trying to read the instructions & fixing whatever I do not was wrong!! I love Michael's! I could spend an entire day in there imaging all the possibilities. But this review it geared toward my cashier I had the other day. Her name is Cecilia. As I went up I had serval items that I wanted a price check first because they were clearance items so I asked "can I please get a price check on all these items before purchasing" her answer was "of course sweetie" with a pleasant smile. After each scan she would say "okay this one cost $" and end sweet nick name which I thought was endearing. Michael's is the only store I would recommend to people if they want to do hands on projects or getting crafty with home decor or fun stuff to do. I am a wall decor junkie and recently solicited the services of Michael's to custom frame a traditional Indian painting. Sean Scotland in the store was a great help to me in choosing the right design, background and framework for my painting. I wanted a rather elaborate arrangement of very delicate handiwork and his job was so neat and well done, that I was taken by surprise!! For another painting that needed better frames, he even suggested I try Aaron Brothers because he wasnt sure if he had the right tools to frame the picture. He also offered to use the 50% discount coupon the next week in case I was not happy at Aaron's! All in all, for custom framing, Michael's on Ranch Drive has bowled me over!! I only wish I could walk out of the store without making any purchases, but sigh, temptation always gets the better of me!!! read more

Worst manager-on-duty ever!!! I just happened to select something -- A holiday-themed sign painted on a wooden panel -- from one of the several holiday aisles that were clearly labeled every several feet, "Up to 70% the original ticketed price..." off such items. When I went to the register, it rang up at full price. I told the cashier that it's supposed to be 70% off. She checked the aisle, saw the sign, and brought it back with her. She also checked with the manager on duty who said, No. It doesn't count. It's 70% off everything... to the left of those items. I said, There are multiple signs there. Why would that be excluded? She said, No, refused to honor any discount, and just walked away... I will not go to this Michaels ever, ever, ever again... but, I really don't think they -- that manager on duty or some of the employees there, judging from the reviews here -- care... read more

These employees should be given classes on customer service. As a business owner I can say that sticking to rules to the 9th degree will only lose Michaels a lot of customers to other art shops and to JoAnn Fabric store. I painstakingly found a 50% off coupon online from michaels.com. Then I found the yarn it was marked at the regular retail price. But when I went to pay for it they said I couldn't use my coupon because the yarn was on sale for 20$ off! But there was no sale tag under the yarn. So they called the manager and she said that she took the sale sign off the yarn an hour ago. So I said I should be able to use my coupon. She said I couldn't because it was still on sale until the next morning so I should come back then!! Yeah right. I placed the yarn back on their counter and walked out saying I would go to JoAnn Fabric to buy it because they didn't have such strict rules. JoAnn Fabric will also allow you to use multiple discount coupons at the cash register, which Michaels will not. So whether you blame it on the employees or the corporate office, Michael's policies are way too strict. They don't realize how many customers they lose with these strict policies. This manager should have chipped in the $2 extra I would have saved (on top of the 20% sale they had) herself rather than lose me as a steady customer, not to speak of my referrals they would lose. Ray in the framing department is fantastic! I couldn't be happier with my two pieces of framed art (mystical mermaid and humpback whale). I am meticulous and OCD when it comes to details, and I left everything up to Ray and he impressed me with his eye of design. He was personable and helpful, and took time to work with me on choices and styles. I highly recommend him. He is a fabulous asset to Michaels and I hope they recognize this in him. read more

I love Michael's for it's incredible selection of craft and art supplies. However, my most recent trip there was a major disappointment in the customer service end. A female checker rang up my sale without including the posted discount for quantity purchases or reduced prices as posted so I came back into the store for an adjustment. She was busy so I went to Skip who was available. When I asked for help, first he looked away from me and motioned other customers tocome to him and then accused me by inference that I had taken the wrong item from the rack or that I might be confused. I told him that the sale prices were posted and that I was careful to take my selections from the correct spot. He went on again twice accusing me of being some kind of semi-conscious illiterate (not his words, but implied) and when I suggested that he go over to the items to double check the prices he said that there wereso many of them that it would be difficult and he didn't have the time. I was so disgusted by his abhorrent customer service that I turned away and left. Skip, you need to improve your customer service skills or join the ranks of the unemployed. And Michaels, I may shop elsewhere if you don't improve. read more

A few months ago, I had purchased a craft kit and paid cash. When I got home, I realized that it was the wrong one so I went back to exchange it but they didn't have the one I needed so I asked for a refund. Remember - I PAID CASH. I had the receipt and the unopened kit. They insisted that I give them my driver license in order to do the refund and would not allow the refund any other way. I offered to show them my license but they wanted to swipe it on their machine - which was not in plain view. The manager said they could not give a store credit, either unless I handed him my license. That was NOT happening. He finally gave in and gave me a store credit (which he had said previously that they don't do) after I threatened to call the District Attorney and BBB to report this. So you know - it is against the law for them to insist on swiping a license. Your license has all your info on it - including your Social Security number! Can we say "identity theft"? Today I went back there to purchase some jewelry making supplies and there were sale signs that stated that certain ones were at 30%. When I got to the register to pay for my purchases, the register did not show any discounted prices. The clerk called for a manager who then went over to check on the sales. She came back and told me that none of the items were on sale. I told her that was not right and walked over to the isle with her - she had removed the sale signs and had them in her hand! She tried to say she had not removed anything until I told her that I saw them in her hand! Needless to say, I left without paying for the items but I will not be returning there. If there were a way to give a 0 star rating for this place, I would have done so. read more

After my bad experience at the Michael's in Milpitas, the store manager called me and personally apologized. After a bit of discussion, I felt sorry for him. I think that what I ran into here was the classical story of the difficulty of hiring employees who 1) care, 2) think, 3) are competent.
