I visited every shop on the crawl, between wedding events, that weekend! Had a blast! This store is adorable, beautiful items, great ideas, set up very well. The staff was very helpful and informative, but didn't mind us both browsing. Definitely worth visiting. I'm giving this place one star because it did just about nothing for me but waste my time. I could have bought this yarn elsewhere and saved myself the drive. I even signed up for a knitting felting class that was later canceled. The owner called to let me know the class was cancelled, but I never heard the message. That's okay, I thought, maybe she could give me ANY lesson instead. Nope. She was not impressed that I drove over an hour a second time to come to her store. Whatever she was doing (knitting) was more important than building customer rapport. The person there, who I'm assuming was the owner, was not really outgoing or friendly either, just ordinary. This place was a big disappointment. It has the potential to be an amazing little jewel, but it's just not. The knitting needle display was also a mess. Oh, and her large dog is confined to a tiny space behind her register. That's just plain cruel. Talk to your dog, and take your dog on a long walk!

These specialty stores are a rare find especially in high real estate areas like NYC where I live. The high quality yarns at Kathy's are expensive, but the bargain table of end yarns is a delightful way to explore new materials before committing to bigger projects. The store also offers courses and programs which is a great way to socialize and connect with the community through a common interest in fiber arts. I will frequent this store in my travels through Western, PA and encourage others to check out the rich history and quaint stores in Ligonier.

It was definitely in the top two shops of the six I visited. When I was there, the owner's husband was filling in for the day for his wife. He was super kind and friendly. Talking to other yarn shop owners in the area, they all had nothing bad to say about Tonidale's owner and had said they wished I had met her since she is just as kind as her husband. The shop has a good mix of inexpensive and expensive yarn. That's rare to see in yarn shops. I think it gives the shop a wider range of customers, those who want the expensive, fancy yarn and those who are looking for something more simple. They have a very good mix of fibers to choose from. I remember seeing acrylic and acrylic blends, wool and wool blends, and angora rabbit (which was surprising), among others. I thought their prices were very fair for the yarn being offered. This will definitely be a shop I return to the next time I'm in Pittsburgh.

I went in looking for small-diameter circular needles for socks to finish a rush…read more gift project. the store owner was very helpful and recommended a new brand --LYKKE driftwood needles, in 9 inch diameter. just perfect for socks and mittens ! I'd been using 12 inch diameter, a little large for my projects, and had tried 5 in diameters -- too small . don't waste your money on amazon, ordering chinese junk 5 "" needles. come to Oakmont yarn where they'll know exactly the right needles you need. (I've been knitting for decades. And I never knew there are 9 inch circular needles. . . )
