Michaels of Northborough -- Northborough Crossing : 6108 Shops Way, Northborough       Exterior

Michaels in general is my favorite chain store for the best prices for arts and crafts supplies. Actually, what I meant to say is that they have the best prices if you know how to shop at Michaels in the most effective way. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS use a 50%, 55% or 60% off coupon on a regular price item or 15% or 20% off your entire purchase. Don't even try to give the excuse that you can't find one, because honestly, they are always around, and if Michaels doesn't have a coupon out, AC Moore or Jo-Anns (which Michaels match coupons of) definitely will. So every time I come here, I either buy a bunch of sale items or one regular priced item, because I refuse to pay for anything here for full price. Lucky for me, I live in a town with a Michaels store, so I go often to continue being able to purchase one thing and use the coupon every day. Anyway, coupon rant over. This specific Michaels is in Northborough Crossing, sandwiched between Petsmart and Toys R Us. It's not the biggest Michaels around, but large enough to still have a decent variety. What was annoying about this specific store was the layout. Even though it's adaptable, for the first-time shopper (like myself), I had no idea where anything was due to the weird layout in comparison to most of the other Michaels locations I've been to. Seriously, everything wasn't where I expected and the thing I came in here specifically looking for was no where to be found. Either way, they did have a bunch of deep clearance sections and lots of good sales, so that was entertaining and the guy working at checkout was friendly enough and helpful. In conclusion, the store is alright but the layout is very confusing and costs them two stars. In comparison to some of the other Michaels, like the brand new one where I live in Westwood, this one needs some re-arranging! 3 stars.

I was in looking for leather acrylic paints for a project. This wasn't the brand I originally wanted, but it will do I guess.

Hilarious liability hazard in the form of pallets and carts all over the embroidery section. Claustrophobic, unattended, and wobbly.

I'm sorry, but this is another hobby place where everyone acts like they don't give a crap if you…read morewalk in or not. Tried to shop there on a few occasions (I'm a big hobby spender, young lady/atypical hobbyist, don't look like it but I know my stuff, deep in it and need singles), and you step in and everyone has just more important things to do than help you. Feels rude and unwelcoming. Drove 30 mins with my partner looking for singles, and their whole case was covered in boxes of other cards so you could see nothing. Possibly some sort of tournament happening in the seating area but the store was open, we had money, we wanted to buy. I attempted to move them so I could see and hopefully buy, and after I moved the last of like 5 cases so I could see (we've been at the store for like 15 mins) what I'd assume is an employee approached me. "You are going to break the glass, so I'LL MOVE THEM FOR YOU." And he finally removes the last box (had no idea that me gently stacking cardboard boxes would potentially damage plexiglass, but whatever, no one helped us for like 15 mins. Like what?). So I peaced without purchasing any of the things I noticed I wanted after I could see their inventory. Super rude and unhelpful, seriously cost you my business. My partner bought a few packs of a set we were having trouble getting, not out of patronage, but feeling like it was a wasted trip if not. We won't be coming back. Awful taste in our mouths, be welcoming if you're a hobby shop, or at least pretend helping us is important to your business. Urging fellow hobbyists to hit up That's E or the one in Shrewsbury on Boston Turnpike over this crap. There's a reason they still have the in-demand sets...

Decent selection of MTG cards; unfortunately only those that are playable in tournaments. Would be a classic to see some alphas.

These days, there aren't many model railroad shops around, but North East Trains is still here and…read morestill selling trains! The store's got a lot of O scale (Lionel) trains and it's clearly the primary focus of the store, but there's also a couple aisles of HO scale and a couple displays of N scale. Look hard and maybe you can find some S or G scale. The back room also has a selection of scenery materials and model kits. With the overwhelming amount of merchandise, items are overflowing into the aisles. It can be hard to find things if you're looking for anything specific. If you're looking for the latest HO releases from Rapido, Atlas, or Athearn, this isn't the place. ...but if you want to get some inexpensive freight cars and track for your favorite kid (or yourself), you're bound to find something here. The staff has obviously been in the hobby for quite some time and should be able to answer your questions.

What a great store! I was in town visiting a train layout nearby and stopped in here. They have a…read moregood selection of new stock (mostly O gauge, but some N, HO and G scale too) and a tremendous variety of used trains in all the popular gauges. In the back they have scratchbuilding supplies, books, and paint. I found some stuff here (O gauge vinyl roadbed) that hasn't been made in years. In talking with the staff, they purchase collections of stuff so they don't always know what they will have. It is like walking into a used train show, and the prices are very fair. The staff are also extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I only wish I lived closer than 3 hours away!
