Ella is a patient, talented, friendly employee who personifies what we we all hope for when needing help at our local stores. She was able to guide me through the process of framing memorable old photos, which was no easy task. Wednesday 1 P.M. Went there to pick up an order (in which we received multiple emails saying "your order is ready for pickup). Only to have it NOT THERE. there was Only ONE person working behind the counter with many customers waiting in line. BOYCOTT MICHAELS. The place is a mess. Clearance items not marked. 2 customer service people at self checkout. Self checkout always a problem. They should have at least one person at register to checkout customers because the self is always problematic. It asked me to put in a coupon number that was 25 digits long after it scanned the qr code bars. So ridiculous. read more

Michael's of oceanside has been in my life for a long long time. I worked here for a few years so I know from the employee side to the consumer side lol I'm going to give it 5 stars because I know how much hard work it takes to run the place but also going to give 5 stars because it's been the cleanest ever! Huge shoutout to the store manager Laura I love this place because there's so much unique items you really can't find anywhere else. Michael's is truly a huge reason I have so many craft hobbies. The customer service at this store is pretty great as well I've met a lot of new people and they are so sweet and helpful I wish they had more help as it's understaffed most of the time. Two people of color were in the store today. It appeared that the manager attempted to accuse the two people of stealing. I have never seen such disrespect before. The young couple appeared to be having a good time picking out their items until they went to check out. Not sure what happened next but the manager was extremely rude and condescending. I am a regular customer and I have never seen anything like that before. I hope this is not the normal behavior of the manager. read more

I came into custom framing in Oceanside with a framed picture that had slipped. Laura, the store manager and Taylor the framer were extremely helpful and were able to reframe the picture using my materials at a very reasonable cost. Nice selection of items. It is easy to find coupons online. There is a price checking machine so you can check for discounts before you get on line. Great place to find holiday decorations or supplies to craft or sew. I've gotten a lot of scrapbooking items, yarn, baking items, watercolor sets, notebooks,and beads here. I can't believe it but I've just had ANOTHER terrible experience in this store. Why do I keep going back? The customer service is HORRIBLE. All the employees look miserable (and act accordingly). The store is always dirty, poorly stocked & disorganized. It's Just a terrible shopping experience every single time. The latest outrage? I bought an item online for curbside pickup. I received 2 (TWO!!) texts telling me the order was ready for pickup. When I got to the store, it turns out they didn't have the item in stock and they had cancelled the order. A super-nasty store clerk explained to me that this was really all my fault for not checking my email and relying on the texts they sent me instead. See? They send good news via text, but the bad news only comes via email. And you have to check both. And I guess believe neither? Apparently the nasty store clerk thinks that makes total sense and is perfectly fine. This is the last straw. This time, I swear, I am never going back. Michael's is dead to me. read more

What a pathetic waste of my time. I did curbside pickup and followed instructions from my email. I waited in my car for 10 mins, then finally decided to go into the store and saw signs at the entrance *inside* that say "curbside pickup here". There were only two registered open and slammed with a line of 20 people. No staff around at all. I waited around inside trying to get someone's attention, but nothing. Called the store a gazillion times and no one picked it. Finally I just left... 30 mins later and no one has yet to reach out to me to bring out my order. Unreal and truly pathetic that a company that large doesn't have their sh*t together. read more

This is not a review specifically of this location but I just need to say that their "coupon" system is maddening. I probably visit a Michael's maybe once a month, always with that day's email coupons (40 or 50% off any single item minus exclusions and on and on) I have NEVER once been able to use the coupon. Even when I seek out non-sale items, they are of course considered exclusions. My previous visit, I had 5 items from 5 different parts of the store, all non-sale items and that particular coupon said "even sale items" but alas, not the 5 items I was purchasing, naturally. What is the point? It is a real turn off. During today's visit the clerk actually told me "no coupons today, everything's on sale, except books but you can't use coupons on books" which of course I had. So why send a coupon out for "today only". It's bad business practices and makes me not want to return. read more

Very under-stocked for Christmas items for December 1st, but if you look hard enough you might find what you need. In terms of customer service, though - Javier was a great help. As the only person on the floor who put effort into finding what customers were looking for, he was mobbed by customers, and got me a good way down the path to decorating for Christmas. Still - for a craft store in the month leading up to the holidays, I'd expect them to do better than bare shelves. read more

First and foremost, this store smells fantastic! Being across the street from the Oceanside garbage dump, the warm aromas are most welcomed upon entering. Michael's is one of my favorite stores. I don't care much for shopping, but I could spend hours in this store. Before I know it, I hear the dreaded "store will be closing in 15 minutes." From Bristol board, tracing paper, acrylic paints, variety of brushes, canvas Prismacolor markers and colored pencils, they really have most of the everyday artist supplies. Since I was an art major, I was able to knock mostly all the art supplies off my lengthy lists come first semester. Don't get me wrong, they have stuff for all artists though. For the home bakers, they sell plenty of melting chocolates, molds, cupcake materials and frills. Really great selection without spending an arm and a leg for those cute decorations for sweet delights. The scrap booking section makes me wish I scrap booked. They have everything possible so it seems. I love the stickers and my O'side Michael's has the BEST stickers. They always have sales on them too. It can add up after you have a basket full! The jewelry making supplies range from professional to the raver plastic beaded bracelets. They have many books as well to help the average person feel like a jewelry pro. They have a few aisles of frames which range from cheap to expensive. They have beautiful shadowboxing frames which you can really make beautiful with accessories. I did use the professional framing department years ago for something for an ex-boyfriend. The framing came out lovely but it took a huge chunk out of my wallet. I could do it myself with time. They have many craft projects for kids (and adults) for those rainy afternoons. Gotta love their candle selection to which I assume makes the place smell so great. The $1.00 section is better than most 99 cent stores. They have such different goodies for a buck. Can't resist that waiting on the checkout line. As the other Yelper reviewed, Michael's does have a DIY Wedding section. Really cool. I have daydreamed up and down those aisles. I know I am leaving stuff out but like my hours of browsing the many aisles, this review could go on for miles.... Never had a problem with checkouts. Check the weekend flyers for coupons. Always seem to be a 40% off one full price item coupon you could utilize. Now that the holidays are coming, I will be back for the great decorations for every holiday, large or small. The art cases were all damaged with paint splatters and the straps were missing so I couldn't buy it. Beware, I bought fake flowers that were tagged $3.99 and they rang up $4.99. I had a small poster I wanted to have framed. The person who had done framing for me in the past had retired so I thought I would try Michael's. I saw that they have a running a 70% off sale of all frames. I should've known what I was getting into when they told me the original price for the frame would be $438. With the 70% the price came to 167 hours. So obviously they inflated the original price of the frames because I never spent more than $150 to have an item frames. After two weeks I picked the frame up today the poster was slightly wrinkled when I gave it to them in the frame it was even more wrinkled. When I asked about this I was told they did the best they could to remove the wrinkles. Then when I got home I saw that super hang the picture I had to use their no wire system. this system was ridiculous so instead of having one hole in my wall for the picture I now had to have two holes in order to hang this picture. The instructions were eight steps long and Didn't work . I ended up just putting one nail in the to hang the picture. I didn't know using wires to hang a picture was a problem that needed to be fixed. Needless to say I will never go back to Michael's to have an item framed. read more

I think it must just be the Oceanside, NY location. Items that you can't buy online and pick up in store you have to go to the store to actually make the purchase. Online it states they have an item in store but when I have gone in person in the past they usually did not have it. I decide to call, they state they are going to check to see if they have it and they put me on hold forever. I hang up and call again, girl says she will look can I please hold, someone forgot me again. I go in and find an associate and she tells me the item has been sold out for 3 days. Then why does it show online today that you have it? Associate gets loud and sarcastic by replying, " Well I am really sorry but we are busy." This is not the first time I have had this experience with this location. I think they need a competitor like Jo-anns or Hobby Lobby within a 5 mile radius. read more

Outstanding service. I was inside this store for less than 10 minutes looking for pumpkin carving utensils because I couldn't find them in other stores. The best part of my experience here was the service, and that is very important to me. Philip Henry was very professional with his customer service as a cashier. He was very efficient, friendly, helpful, and fast. My favorite was when he was smiling while assisting customers, such a simple thing to do, but not always implemented every where you go. He certainly made my day brighter with his happiness/smile, and helped me out with a coupon at checkout. Custom framing - I had been procrastinating getting 5 photos custom framed. I considered small framing shops but chose Michaels bc they had the best prices around. The photos are 11x14", I went with the recommended 2" matting & a silver frame to compliment my B/W photos. The woman who helped me was patient & informative. I was estimated 2 wks but my frames were done early. The price was about $450 for the 5 frames. (My other estimates would've cost about or at least 50% more). Finally, came the big reveal... they turned out BEAUTIFUL! STUNNING! I will def return to this store for future framings. Thx Michaels! read more

I used to go to this location years ago! I was in the area and needed something so I ran in and instantly remembered why I stopped going to this location! The line was so long with 2 registers opened! As I'm working through the store, there was empty fixtures and selves with no staff member near them attempting to stock them or to offer to help find anything! Thankfully I couldn't find what I was looking for so I wouldn't have to wait on line and left! I rather stick with the valley stream or Westbury location! read more

I used to love this store but I have had lots of problems recently, mainly when I have called trying to reach the custom framing department. I had to make ten calls today, five of them were not even answered by anyone, and the calls after ringing a few times seemed as if someone picked up and slammed the phone down. One was answered and transferred to that department, but no one picked up after several minutes. One time I called and told the same person who answered that nobody had picked up the phone, and he assured me that they were going to, but unfortunately, they didn't. My last call happened to be answered by someone who worked in custom framing and I was finally able to get the answer to my question. Most of the time I noticed that people who are supposed to work at this department, are called to help with other store matters, and when you get there, you have to start looking for them throughout the store. I guess they don't have enough employees and they use them as cashiers when they need them. No wonder our orders are sitting there for the full two weeks!!! PS: I am not blaming the employees! It needs better management!!! read more

Great selections of anything and everything you could ever want and need from a craft store. I have never gone in looking for something and came home with nothing. As soon as I walk in a take a deep breath because I just love the smell of the place. Their clearance aisle is filled with cheap items that can be given as gifts for children. You can never go wrong with an initial journal. They have a nice variety of scrapbook paper, paints, paint brushes, his art kits, yarn, a whole aisle devoted to stickers, and much much more! I can't speak for the men's bathroom but the women's bathroom is always clean. I always print out a coupon from their website when I go. My only complaint is the lack of employees walking around. There are plenty of cashiers but when I have a question about a product or artsy situation it tends to be a bit difficult to find someone to help me out. Usually when I find one I have to stand by awkwardly as he or she helps someone else. Ideally there would be one person for every 5 aisles. But anyway I really like this place. read more
