She is 8 years old and so when I called around, one of the places I called recommended this place. They offer a "try out the wheel" class, as well as multiple classes. The try it out class is $60 ish and allows you to work with an instructor to make a bowl or a cup. Then once it dries, you can come and paint it. Sounded like a good deal. I really wanted to love this place and I think if you go for the painting of ceramics it would be fine, but I would not recommend this place for the classes, especially for kids. I took my daughter and my niece and like I said, it was their very first time. When we arrived, we were greeted by the lady who ended up being our instructor. She seemed kind of low key rude but didn't think too much about it. However, as the lesson progressed, she seemed kind of annoyed with the girls. She didn't yell or anything but her mannerisms and the way she spoke came off as what the girls said "rude" and my daughter said "I wanted to cry". Not really the experience I was hoping for them, especially since this was an early Christmas gift and I would hope they would have fun. Maybe it was just the instructor we got. When they were finished the instructor came out of the wheel room and rolled her eyes while passing the other ladies working. Like I said, I wanted to really like this place, and I think my opinion of it would be different had we only come in to paint ceramics. I recently did a wheel class somewhere else and as an adult I think this place would be fine but it isn't ideal for kids.

The lady working with us gave us a few options without telling us any pricing. When she finally told us the price, we were a little shocked. The lady seemed annoyed with our response. Instead of asking us about what our budget was or anything, she began giving us less than favorable options that were way less inexpensive. We left feeling annoyed and frustrated with the experience. We decided to go check out another framing business and it was day and night difference. Wish we could have had the same experience at Ben Franklin.

The place is really big, easy to find with a nice big sign right on the building and parking right in front. Has a lot of different rooms and a lot of art displayed in each. I loved walking around everywhere and looking at it, it was definitely encouraging us to want to come back and partake in even more classes she has to offer! Her space is very welcoming and cozy, I appreciated how she was available for questions and assistance but also gave us free rein to pick and choose scents/colors/materials. As you walk across the street to this building that looks more like a freight warehouse you wonder am I in the right spot? Yes you are, walk up the steps and turn left and you immediately see the studio. Now this was a date day for my wife and I and have never done this before. The staff were supper friendly and were there to give advice, but let you do your own thing. They have lots of pieces to choose from, all prices are in the bottom of the pieces. We selected our pieces and went to work, so how I missed the whole part of "you need a base coat before painting" and I just started to paint. My wife on the other hand listened to the instructions and followed them.. her pieces were painted well, mine looked like my 3 year old grandson painted it. Now we wait for them to be fired in the kiln which takes about 1-2 weeks )depending on how busy they are) to get it back... So for 3 pieces ran about $114ish plus tip. From what the staff states is that it gets busy on the weekends, we arrived at 11:05 and left at around 3ish...

From knives to pots and pans to kitchen gadgets you didn't think you would need until you see them. They even have makeup, hair products, clothes, and anything you can think of. It was so much fun roaming around this store, and they have a variety of the same item. For example, my goal was to get a butcher knife. They have big ones, small ones, heavy ones, ones with short handles, and ones with longer handles. I spent a long time picking one out to my liking. The inside feels like a big warehouse with everything neatly placed in a way that you can just walk up and down the aisles with ease. There was so much to look at that I felt like I spent close to an hour or more here. Some things were reasonably priced, while others were a little higher. It really depends on what you plan on getting from here. I almost got a wok from there but decided against it because the one on sale was a little bit too heavy for me. If you are in the area and love kitchen things, I would suggest going to Shin Shin to check it out. It was fun for me, and I plan to take my mom there on our next trip to Seattle. However, I might regret that decision later, because my mom would just spend her entire trip there and not want to leave. Haha, I will keep you posted on this. Parking is plentiful. Credit cards are accepted. One thing that caught my attention, though, was that the employees would stare you down after a little while. Instead of having security cameras, they have employees at every corner who would randomly show up next to you to ensure you are "shopping" and not stealing. It is a fairly large retail site that carried assorted housewares, some alcohol, restaurant gear, small appliances, bedding and linen, Korean hair & skincare products, and clothing. I was rather amused at the gigantic sizes of some bowls, woks, rice cookers, and cooking pots...literally could hold a toddler or two. As other Yelp posts have noted, they do have attentive store personnel that are at the ready should you have any questions. Unless you're a regular shopper, one will definitely be wandering and browsing every aisle since there are no overhead signage. After all that wandering, I did end up paying for a substantial back scratcher for The Homie and a floral print quilted vest for my mom. Both were reasonable and one was even on sale! Chalk it up to, you don't think you'll find anything in particular, but stop in Shin Shin for some momentary retail therapy.
