I love shopping at Michael's but do not like the parking lot situation. Avoid going into the lot if at all possible. Save time by parking on the streets nearby and walk a little. I had a very good experience in custom-framing with Jordan. I brought three pieces to Michael's and Jordan helped me find a nice off-the-shelf frame for one, and helped me with two custom frames. This store has everything! And is easy to get do if you don't drive (like me).It is just a hop skip and a jump away from the Q54. This place is always fully stocked, and has tons of different types of what your looking for. So why only 2 stars? Well the customer services is a joke! I have had to climb shelves, dig under boxes and use fake bamboo sticks to knock things down to a human buying level. After the first few times of coming here, and asking for help and just not getting it (max waiting time 34 mins, on the 35 min, i climbed!) i have learned to just do it myself. I pulled up to this location, pregnant with swollen ankles trying to get supplies for a belły cast and they were closed without an employee in site at 8:55p. They also stop answering phone after 8:30p, I've worked in retail over 10 years, we are to open AND close at the times advertised. Not to mention I live in Brooklyn and wasted an entire trip. I was shopping in the Michaels on Metropolitan today with my 4 month daughter who was in a carseat and placed in a shopping bag. I had purchased several large frames, fall decor, etc. Upon checking out I realized the shopping cart cannot be removed from the store. As stated I have a baby in a carseat and now several large bags that I cannot carry to my car. There was an employee there named Terry and I asked him if he could help me bring my purchases to the car. He told me that wasnt something that they do and he didnt have anyone available to help. I asked to speak to a manager and he told me he was the manager and just turned away. I again asked him for help. What should I do. I cant carry all my bags and my baby. He told me I could go outside and get a trader joes shopping cart. Ummm how am I supposed to do that, its not like I can leave my baby or my purchases unattended. He just stood there and watched me struggle trying to figure out how to carry a carseat and all my bags. The amount of time he spent being rude and inconsiderate he could have spent helping me carry my bags downstairs. I am returning everything I bought today. 2/12/14 I purchased a boye crochet needle set for $9.99 and applied a 50% off coupon. 2/15/14 I decided that I rather get the Susan bates crochet needle set which was $9.99. Since they were the exact same price, I asked for an exchange. The lady at the register told me she can't do it. She said there was a coupon which is not valid in the current transaction. Fair enough. I did comment that it's the exact same price and within the week of purchase! She reluctantly process the exchange and said that they won't do this again. So what's the point of aggravating a customer when you will process it anyway?! Corporate need to adjust policies and if they are loosing money due to coupon discounts then stop offering coupons. I rated this place higher then most places due to the fact that it's now closer to me! It has free parking, connected to a strip mall/ish kind of spot. and it's not as crowded as other Michael's. It practically has sales like every other week. You can check frequently for the coupons. If your an artist. I recommend this place for supplies. As a general rule, I don't go to big-box chain stores, and in particular don't announce it to the world when I do. However, in search of a pile of poster frames, a friend directed us here. The cashier, upon learning we were taking the bus with these bulky items and lacking any oversize bags, spent around 10 minutes wrapping and taping our purchases together so that we could reasonably hall them home. I've been wanting to come to Michael's for the longest time. My sister recommended me to go to Michael's if I need art and craft supplies. The parking lot is kind of confusing to get into and a tad small. I was so excited when my boyfriend and I arrived Michael's. As I walked in, I noticed that it was slightly messy here and maybe unorganized.The restrooms weren't exactly well mainatined either. The cashier that helped me wasn't too friendly or welcoming. On a brighter note, I found what I was looking for. The aisles were labeled. Hopefully the next Michael's I visit will be better, cleaner, and more organized. read more

It has what I was looking for, but the lines were long. the store itself is big and never seems crazy crowded and packed, but when it comes time to pay, the line can go ALL the way into the store. But they have a lot of registers open and workers steadily ringing up customers, but the line is still so long. Not like prices are dirt cheap either. Employees are friendly when they ring you up. Very large selection of everything -- baking stuff, crafts, cards, sewing supplies. I could get lost in here. But then I don't want to waste time because I know I got to wait on a long line! grumble grumble! Parking is a hassle too, since it's a shared lot with Trader Joe's and Staples. I stood at the Frame counter for 7 minutes (it was deserted) pressing the help button with no sign of ANYONE on floor. I called the store and after being on hold the manager comes on and tells me she'll be there to help me in a few minutes, which is ridiculous anyway but ok. 30 minutes of waiting and still no sign of anyone to help. Ugh this place is horrible. From little to no selection of most art supplies to horribly long lines. I came here for some silk flowers and to get a few art supplies. They lack high quality silk flowers in this store, only ones that look really really fake. Paint are not fully stocked. I had to walk around the aisle three times to hunt down the paints I need and by the time I found 2 out of the 10 I needed, I gave up on the project and just left the paint there. Again, lines are long. Staff are not helpful. They seem to be trying to avoid you as you walk close to them. Though I don't think the Michael's on Northern Boulevard is "all that", I much prefer that location over this one. read more

I love Michaels. I come here often as it is very convenient to the Q54 bus. I love that it is close to Trader Joe's as well so I can kill two birds with one stone. I usually come here to buy yarn. I agree with the previous comments that the costumer service here is very lacking. They are not very friendly and when you ask for help it seems like no one knows what to do and further more you feel like you are wasting their time by asking for help. The register lines are always a mess and I find that they yell at the customers about how there are multiple lines. Perhaps a host to help guide people to lines. Also if you forgot the coupon in the circular, they WILL NOT, I repeat WILL NOT do anything to help you out. You must have your coupon or sorry charlie. The only exception to this that I have found is a guy in their framing department who was very friendly, if not too friendly. I also find that there is a woman in the yarn department, I wish I knew her name, who is delightful and very friendly and knowledgeable. She is willing to help you find whatever you need and offers great tips and suggestions from her years of yarn crafting experience. She is very personable and last time I was there, my husband came along, and she joked that I need to craft him something in exchange for him enduring my yarn shopping. Very large selection of scrap booking supplies. I wish that they offered more classes besides just cake decorating. I give it three stars for their customer service, but otherwise I love Michaels. read more

I'll come here if I need to. Otherwise, there are far better Michael's stores in queens. The shelves are always empty, especially the paint aisle. Or else they're completely in disarray and nothing is where it should be. People have no idea what their products are (but that seems standard for the chain), and the line is long. The downside to this long line is that there's always 1-2 people on register. Prepare to wait on line for a good 10-15 minutes AT MINIMUM! This location seems very understaffed and overwhelmed with customers. read more

Have tried to take painting classes twice at this location and each time the class was cancelled and I was NEVER told until I showed up for the class. This store doesn't bother to notify customers and claim that it is the instructors who are suppose to notify their customers. Sounds like passing the buck to me. This is the worst Michaels I've ever been in. I pressed the service button and waited around for somebody to open the spray paint cabinet for me, but nobody came. I decided to walk around the store and look for an employee to help, but I'm pretty sure the only two people working in the store were the cashiers. The line to check out was so long it wasn't even worth it to purchase the other items I had grabbed so I just put them back. Like a bad boyfriend you keep coming back to for convenience's sake, even though he's, like, the worst, I keep somehow returning to the Rego Park Michael's. I mean, it's right next to the Trader Joe's, and as I get older, I become more excited about seasonal decorating. But man. It doesn't matter when you go. Opening, closing, middle of the day on a Wednesday. The line is always at least 10 deep, and the employees are a serious bummer. (Not once have I been there and DIDN'T hear someone complaining about their schedule, how tired they were, or how they wished they could go home. Come on people, this is a service industry.) This girl looked like she did not wanted to be there and she didn't mind showing us that. She was yawning non stop on our faces and when we asked if they had anything for our measures she said she didn't know because she only knows inches. "I am not in a converting mood". The worst customer service experience. They refuse to staff appropriately, leading to a 25 minute wait in their line....which happens every single time I go. It's really unfair to the poor staff, there were only two of them and all the customers in the line were yelling at them. If it was possible, I'd give this place stars that vary in the negatives. I called asking for lumiere paint, and was put on hold for about 30 minutes until they told me yes they do have it in stock, then another ten because they had to double check the colours. Ok that was fine, at least they had it right? After another 30 minute drive to obtain the paint, it was a struggle to look for parking.I finally made it into the store and managed to find the lady I spoke to over the phone. She remembered me saying I was coming 30 minutes into queens, but doesn't recollect the conversation, or remember the paint I was referring to because she gets a lot. I then asked a supervisor to help me locate the paint, and after 20 minutes he told me I can look around on my own because he can't find it, and maybe I should try a more high end craft store. Basically, if you can make your way out to the Micheals up on 99th and Columbus, you'll be better off, this store is nothing but an empty shell. read more

Sometimes I find this place overpriced, and then they surprise me other things. Once I came in here to buy a gift for a little girl ( Arts and Crafts) I bought it, and this little thing cost $30? I thought it was a mistake, but because there was no listed price, I could not verify. I ended up just buying a butt load of coloring books and a box of crayons. Costing me a total of $23. During this past holiday season, I came to get some cute stocking stuffers, and picked out a bunch of Hello Kitty supplies. My overfilled shopping cart, . . yes over filled. I was waiting on that dreaded line that is always long and never short. When I mean long, I mean about 15-20 people deep, daily. I kept looking at my cart, contemplating on this stuff, "Oh geeze, I bought all this Hello Kitty stuff, freakin'; Sanrio is try to make us all poor, by making too many cute things, and I swear I have an addiction." You know, just as well as I do, when you buy stuff, and you sit in line for too long, you get this "buyer's remorse" feeling. That you want to buy it, but then you put it down randomly on a nearby shelf because you don't dare get out of line and lose your spot. It's the store fault really, handle the line and we will buy everything. lol When I finally got to the front, there was a cashier that called "next" I was so excited that I pranced over with my cart to the counter, smiled big and said "Hello" then she shut off the number light on her register, picked up her water bottle and walked away into the back. :: jaw dropped :: "Did this B**** just LEAVE me here?" Angered and pissed and ready to lose it, I keep calm, I have everyone staring at me, ready for a flippin' show or something, and then the girl finally returned back, It was just under five minutes, and just turned on the light and looked at me like nothing happened. She's ringing up my stuff and I gave her all the Hello Kitty Stuff first. I'm seeing the prices, and all I'm seeing is; 0.99, 1.99, 0.25,1.69, 0.89, 0.01.... A penny?? I haven't bought anything for a penny in forever! I honestly thought that I had purchased at least $200.00 worth of Hello Kitty stuff alone, and it only came out to $35.00. I bought a ceramic Hello KItty bank, and it came out to be $1.95. I know it is well around $20.00 because I had previously purchased it somewhere else, and was replacing it. While finishing up my purchase, I realized, I had only spent $251.00 total, I had my cart full to the brim, very little $1.00 items that I knew were $1.00, and mostly hello Kitty, Wilton, and frames, which are normally all expensive. When I was done, I asked the woman, if all the prices were all accurate. Of course, its the holidays, we're trying to get rid of the end of the year stuff. Here is my problem. There are no accurate pricing in this store, everything is vague and you almost have to be lucky to figure out how much you're paying. Few things that are priced are true. First time I walked into the store and I knew right off I was in for some awesome art shopping experience. I ended up expending 3 times more than what I had projected ! ouch, my pocket ! There are nice things on sale like scented candles. A wide variety of arts item done and make it yourself stuff. I got the perfect art table on sale with the chair. The canvas are on sale for the cheapest prices I had ever seen in a store 12.99 for a pack of 7 ! wide variety and sizes of canvas. Good thing that I am always going to different businesses for art, because this one was definitely worth the visit. They have a big parking garage, big plus ! The entrance is by the traffice light. Customer service is friendly. There are some posters of different arts classes going on in case you want to sign up. There are design your own activity classes also. read more

I have a love-hate relationship with this Michael's. It acccepts online coupons and it's within walking distance from AC Moore. It's not far from the bus. Clearance prices are excellent- I've gotten items marked down to a penny before. A penny! My grandfather used to brag about when stuff cost a nickle- take that, Pop-Pop! This store is in a newer shopping complex with a Staples and a Trader Joe's, and across the parking lot from Bob's Discount Furniture. There's also a Sports Authority, Home Depot, Wendy's, and 5 Guys nearby, as well as a gym. All in all, this craft store has basic needs across the board (except sewing), with departments for floral, wedding, basic fine arts, clay, baking and candy making, woodcraft (think wood to paint, not building a bookcase), kids crafts, and a giant scrapbook section. I want to like this store more, but I can't. Everything is hard to find- they organize scrapbooking by brand in some cases, so if I just want a sheet of paper I may be in five aisles untill I find it. Do not make the mistake of bothering an employee for help, because most don't know what you're talking about, and some are outright rude. Instead, rely on other shoppers in that section to answer your questions. Also, be prepared to offer help to confused customers, because they will ask for it if they see you looking confident. Items are often mislabeled, or mispriced, and I wish they would install a 'price checker'. The line is ridiculously long, and I have half a basket full of items that may not have been in the right section, and I don't want them at the higher price they ring up as. This means a lot of abandoned items at the register, and employees that need to restock them over and over.The cash register is your greatest chance of finding a competent and possibly even friendly employee. By that time you are miserable and can only flash a tired smile, wondering why Michael's couldn't clone a hundred of her and fill their store with them. read more

Just felt the need to update, as I'm still shopping at Michael's in a pinch. However, the sales staff is less knowledgable than they were before. I went tonight and asked a young woman if they had a jewelry component and she told me that she didn't know. She then told me to come with her and led me to the glue isle and handed me glue for attaching gemstones to fabric. I had already showed her the piece of glass I wanted to find a metal endcap for. It made no sense. I'm always better off figuring things out myself here, which is difficult when you're trying out a new craft. Just fine! Nothing earth shattering, but they have a lot of inexpensive things that cost a lot more at those stores on 18th St in the city. I've never really had a problem with lack of stock and I haven't needed any customer service there, so all good on that front as far as I'm concerned. The checkout line is usually 5-7 minutes long, but you get to explore the bargain bins while you wait in line. The fact that it's part of the shopping complex with Trader Joe's, Sports Authority, Panera, and Home Depot is a major plus. Crafts 4-eva! read more

Poor customer service!. I love scrapbooking or just buying pretty trinkets so Michaels has always been my place to go. I go there so often I don't need much assistance or need to interact with associates there. But my visit there today was anything but upsetting. Associates there were not friendly and glared at me while looking at the grabbags. One of the elderly female associate scolded me just because I stood there too long for thinking to purchase how many grabbags. For godsake its just $2. My overall puchase from Michaels over the years has been more than enough to damage my credit cards. I am looking elsewhere or online just to avoid how unpleasant they are! But kudos to John, the associate working at the register for your help and patience! Keep up your smile and friendliness because apparently your other co-workers are lacking it! read more

I first came here when they opened to take some cake decorating classes. They teach Wilton brand cake decorating classes so they make you buy all the tools and decorations from their store. They're a little stingy with the coupons but I was happy with the results. I paid $17 for 4 classes (normally it's $20) because I signed up in advance. Not including the tools for the Level I class, the kit was $20 The class schedule worked for me, it was every Saturdays at 1 PM which gave me just enough time to wake up and bake whatever cake/cupcake I needed to bring in and decorate. For the people who were unprepared, they had to buy Styrofoam rounds and cover them with plastic wrap to do their decorating. I forgot my teachers name but he was helpful, patient, and nice. I would go back for level II and perhaps Fondant class but every time I check the schedule, it sucks and I'd like to have the same teacher. I just can't make it on a week night. When I go in and ask for a class schedule on paper, the cashiers aren't helpful. They just point at the calendar that's posted. When I go in to buy supplies for scrap booking or baking, the lines are usually very long. I just don't understand why it takes so long to check someone out. I like this location cuz it means I can also make my Trader Joe's stop while I'm here. I just wish check out was faster and the parking lot was bigger.
