Terrible! I came here to pick up an online order and asked the associate in the front for help. Mid-interaction, she started talking to another couple and totally ignored me as she chatted away with them. Wild! A cashier saw this and said she'd ask someone else to come up and help me. In the end, a third associate showed up and laughed off how disorganized their online pickup area was and couldn't find my item. I won't be back and don't recommend this location at all. This Michael's location is organized well, and it is always easy to find what I am looking for. My favorite time of year to visit is before Christmas, so I can get some decorating and gift ideas. Even though the lines always seem to be long here, they move pretty fast with often more than one cashier on busy weekends. The frames section has a good selection of very nice and affordable frames. I also like the selection of yarn brands, colors, and different weights for crochet projects. Be sure to sign up for emails and watch for coupons that can save you a lot of money. Best custom framing place for miles!! The manager there is amazing and does everything to perfection!

First, you do not carry enough supplies for counted cross stitching. Rarely can I find the thread colors and Aida cloth I need. Then, I cannot believe that I am expected to do self checkout at this store! I am not paid to do this. In addition, there are employees just standing around to help people do the self checkout. I don't know about you, but I love the smell of a good craft and hobby store. Call me demented, it's just who I am--I can't deny it! This particular Michaels does not disappoint in the smell department. Upon entering and grabbing a cart (always grab a cart, even if you don't think you need one... your arms will thank you and your impulse purchases will be much better accommodated) you will smell seasonal candles and that soft aroma of artificial plants mixed with the comforting ambience of yarn and fabric that remind you of that favorite older relative who got you into crafting in the first place. This store is laid out in a way that's both logical and appealing--always clean and orderly, with rotating selections of seasonally appropriate interior decor up front and pleasing tableaus staged in the center to get your own creative juices flowing. Further toward the back you will go deeper and deeper into expert mode for specific hobbies like art, organization, scrapbooking, and other things you've seen on DIY TikTok but haven't dared try yourself yet. Not to worry--friendly staff are usually easy to find and more than happy to direct you or answer questions. The part of the store I spend the most time in and the impetus for this review is the framing section. Now listen: I went to a liberal arts college but I am not artistic even by the most generous of definitions. That said, I have amassed several elephant herds worth of posters and photos and prints over the years that I bought or acquired thinking, "That would look cool as hell on my wall!" And then later realized that putting tacks or tape or that super annoying grease-mark-leaving gummy stuff on my walls would please neither my landlord nor my maturing aesthetic taste. This is where the frames department comes in. They have frames of many different sizes and styles and if you know Michaels, you know there's always a coupon or a sale going on so you can usually stock up on a few frames for not much cashola. Now for the part where I get a lil boujee: Custom Framing. I know, I know. "Isn't that so expensive? Couldn't you just do it yourself? Do you trust strangers with an irreplaceable and already deteriorating portrait of great grandma Doris with her two mean but beloved Dobermans?" Listen. I hear you, but believe me when I say that these precious pieces of art and sentiment are in much better hands with the pros at Michaels than they are with me. For starters, the Michaels framing team will wear special gloves to handle the items you bring in for framing. They use this fancy overhead camera deal to scan the item in and then you can experiment with different framing and matting styles til you figure out exactly how you want it to look. They're honest about the cost and will also give you an estimate if you need to think about it (or wait for a 70% off sale) before committing. I have now gotten 4 items custom framed here--two were fragile movie posters from the 1940s, one was a canvas in need of backing, and one was a photo. All have turned out GORGEOUS and look incredible on my wall, and now they'll be preserved in perpetuity instead of sitting in questionable containers (like shoeboxes and crates) in my storage unit gathering dust. Also--the cost IS an investment, but there are frequently discounts and if you do a piece every few months it is totally worth it. The staff really make the experience wonderful--they are so knowledgeable and kind, using their expertise to make your item look even cooler and more custom to your needs and style. It's pretty rad, honestly. So if you are looking for an awesome atmosphere, friendly and intelligent and creative staff, and an upgrade to how you display your artwork, definitely give this Michaels a go. This is a great Michael's location. i would advise you to avoid on Saturday midday as the parking lot isn't that big, tons of people, and checkout lines get long. The lines do move pretty quickly though. Michael's always has coupons so don't go empty handed to the store! I was able to pick up a Ficus yesterday for $22 thanks to a 30% off sale and a $5 off coupon I had. Score and it looks nice and real! I feel like there's this stereotype that girls are supposed to be crafty... which is unfortunate for me because I might be the least Holly Hobby girl you'll ever meet. I can't put ingredients together to make a meal and I can't put bric-a-brac together to make sh*t, but sometimes I find myself at Michaels for my job... or when people convince me that I might actually be able to put something together. "Even you can do it.", they say. "It's so easy", they say. LIES. I'm not at all a big fan of shopping at this location because it's more than a tad cramped and they have those extra tall displays that make it feel like aisles are an inch from collapsing down on you. I am a big fan of returning stuff here because it's rarely ever busy and the cashiers are really friendly and understanding and even gave me a 40% off coupon print out when I didn't buy anything, just returning. Michael's is an adventure, I could get lost there. I'm a crafty, creative, handy girl, every aisle makes me what to take on a new hobby or take on a challenge Today my visit was strictly business, my employer asked me to make certificates to award employees at our annual holiday party. The party is exactly a week away, which isn't much time, especially with the holidays. I have previously gone to Michael's for award and loved the final product. I walked straight to the back of the store to the custom framing department and a young girl started helping me, out of nowhere she became ill and notified her coworkers. I was a little worried I wasn't going to be able to get what I needed but then Melissa stepped in and assisted me. She was helpful, personable and full of great ideas. With her by my side I was able to order beautifully matted certificates that I will proudly present to my employer. I was told my certificates would be ready by Wednesday, which is amazing, it will be ready before the holiday party! At the end I found out that Melissa is the store manager. Michael's you are very lucky to have her she is everything and more you would want a manager to be, she provides excellent customer service and is a team player amongst her staff. I felt relieved my project was in the hands of Michael's and now I was free to roam around the store. I looked at the card making aisle. They had so much fun stuff to make cards. Lots of stock paper, cutting tools, stamps, inks, dye cutting machines, adhesives and measuring tools. Ughhhh I want it all! I also noticed that they had adorable Christmas decor. they had nautical Christmas tree and home decorations that I haven't seen anywhere else, definitely a place to check out if you are looking to get festive or are feeling creative. read more

Well the shelves were a little out of order and what I thought was a $30 dollar item turned out to be an $80 item at the check out. No big deal I'll just go pick a different model. I took my mother shopping this past Saturday, August 1st and the girl at the cashier counter was amazingly friendly and so helpful with answering a question I had. We were there in the afternoon around 4-5 P.M. I wish I would have read her name tag. She had a black Halloween cat on her cash register sign and exclaimed how much she loves her new kitten. I'm not a very crafty girl ...well, some might say *crafty*...but not "do it yourself" crafty! However, I am into making my own framed art. Sometimes I have oddly sized pictures that don't fit a standard size frame. I decided to drop by Michaels to see what kind of frame selection they had (it's extensive!) as well as figure out how to remedy the frame size issue. This is a brand new store and it's beautiful! A few minutes after browsing...Viola! Problem solved! Michaels has tons of great craft paper for as little as $.89 a sheet. I put the cool paper (they have prints, glitter, plain, shiny) behind the picture and the frame is filled! I'm now a craft store aficionado. I'll be back to see what other stuff I can get into to decorate my house on the cheep! read more

I prefer to spend my money here when I can rather than at Hobby Lobby since Michaels is thankfully not as freakishly religious and is therefore open on Sundays. Store is fairly small and unfortunately is in a location that gets a LOT of traffic, so the checkout line can get a little lengthy on busy days. Because the store is smaller there's not as big of a selection of stuff but there's tons of basic craft stuff, a very robust scrap booking section, and a framing department. When I got something matted there it was fairly expensive but the service was friendly and professional. I see there are some comments about bad customer service but I can't even count on my fingers how many times I've witnessed terrible customers harassing associates (who were probably in high school, no less) Honestly the shit these employees have to put up with is astounding and I applaud them. read more

We asked about an item and they tell you if we have it it should be on isle such & such & we go there looking and not there. Instead of walking you there to show you. They are all lazy they don't w@nt to move their asses. They are not even friendly, don't greet you neither they smile. My boss sent me to return an entire Ikea blue bag (that's right folks, the giant bag you buy from Ikea for 59 cents!!) full of halloween decorations that we bought but never opened. I had a friend that use to work there years ago. She said her manager was Darlene. Not sure if she's still manager there but one time I went to visit her and she was honestly the worst human being I've ever met. She started yelling at my friend for no reason all bc her manager put her on a register that didn't work and she needed help and actually called her stupid. I heard it. Ever since then I stopped shopping there and my friend quit. They have amazing stuff but I can support a location that has a store manager who treats their employees like crap. read more

Which is saying a lot, b/c the North Riverside location is very cramped and the line is always 20 people deep. The line here is short and well managed, the people are friendly, but hard to find when help is needed. for a big store there could have been more selection.. They have a wide variety of stuff and the employees all know where to find anything. The reason they lost a star from me is because I had something framed recently, and they never called me once it was finished. I called them after about 2 weeks because I was concerned, and they claimed they had called me over a week before that. They didn't, but whatever. I used to really like this location when I first moved here, but now if I need some craft supplies, I go to Hobby Lobby. They have a bigger selection of almost everything (especially home goods), more on sale, and their staff is way nicer. It seems like prices have gone up and the selection has gone down here. The staff here is overall, rude. Lines to check out are always long and take forever, no one greets you or offers to help you, no thank you when you leave. At this point I'm pretty turned off at the thought of even stepping foot in here. read more

Just returned from there - I wanted to exchange a skein of yarn for another color, since I did not have the receipt I was refused unless I paid the regular price.... even though I said I wanted the same in another color she refused the request., seemed to enjoy the refusal. So I told her for the difference in price I could get another color yarn at Hobby Lobby- which turned out to be true. She was totally disinterested in helping the customer-- the nice young man (he was slightly handicapped) is gone. He also gave you a coupon.... Also the last few times there never were enough people resulting in a long line. Not very good. The other thing I observed the lady in the pink sweater checked the pockets of 2 young men leaving,,,,,, so I said " you must get robbed here big time that you have to do this.. " She said no but did not explain. I had my little bag with the 1 skein in front and showed her what was in it, also apologized for not having the receipt. .....it was an embarrasing scene. Let me tell you I am a regular visitor to our Sr. Center in Hanover township and will relate the story to people there, not to look for help in your Schaumburg store. There isa nice knitting group there ..... they will be forewarned. I will not go to that store again! It is the least close to my house so an easy decisio. read more

My only complaint is this store is too packed in with items. I went to get some of those fake tree type items for vases and I couldn't even pull them out of their holders because it was so full. I do like that they offer a section to custom frame items. This will make for some easy Christmas ideas/gifts. Don't ever get anything framed at this store. I took in a photo to be framed and I left miserable. I told them I wasn't happy because there was too much matting. They told me they would fix it but I have to pay for it. I got home and ripped it out of the frame, the photo will now need to be reframed. I like the store. I love shopping for crafts and goods. However today's experience made me upset. I went to get ribbon for my centerpieces. I found 3 large purple ribbon rolls that were perfect....but all of them were ripped. I went to look for an employee to see if there was a non ripped one. I found one-- a white lady about 40 -50 years old. She seemed friendly from how she spoke to other people but when I asked her about it she was like "we dont have a "back room" and everything that you see is what we have. Then she asked me "whats wrong?" I said the ribbon roll is ripped thats all. She then had the audacity to tell a customer-- "just cut the end of it. its a large roll and its like 60 yards! Its one of our cheapest rolls thats why you get a lot." I didnt appreciate her saying something like that. I mean-- first of all Im a customer buying a product. Whether its easy or not to just cut off a piece of it and use the rest I am PAYING for the complete product. Its like saying to someone buying a shirt that has a rip in the sleeve to cut the sleeve off and wear the shirt. That is how I took it. Anyway I have found a lot of products for much cheaper at Joanns so maybe ill just shop there from now on. Frustratin--customer service ppl!!! read more

Rude!! Isn't there a courtesy expected at a checkout that your change will be handed back to you and not slid across the counter? Interested to know if there's a industry standard. Is that how Michael's taught you to return change to a customer? Did I slide it to you when I paid for it? No I politely handed it to you. If that was the only thing, i'd probably let it go. But then this (early 30's, brown hair heavy set woman) cashier, placed my receipt on my item and waited for me to pick it up. When I asked for a bag, she huffed and put the item in the bag and dropped it on the counter. Really? Was she annoyed I did not want to give me email address? (When asked, I simply said "no email"). The two stars is for the floral woman who helped me find an item, (not in her dept. and made sure I found the right thing) I do recognize and acknowledge good customer service.
