I just had the best customer service experience at Michael's in New Tampa! I was in a bind where I needed framing done asap on my son's artwork. I called the store earlier in the day but no one answered. I decided I'll just go to the store and talk to the person face to face. Today was drop off day at the art museum for my son's artwork. It needed to be framed and have the proper wire back to hang. This is our first time participating in an art exhibit so I didn't know what that would take. Susy at the framing department helped put my anxiety at ease. She guided me through selected a custom made to make me art standout. She also helped me select a frame. She told me she had 15 orders in her que and normally could not do same day requests at this time. But, she made an exception and helped me! I'm so happy that Susy gave my order priority and told me to come back at 6pm. Also, my total came to over $100 but she applied discounts that brought the total down to under $50!! Your help and care to this distressed Mom is much appreciated! Thank you Susy! Before I left the store my daughter grabbed a few items and we went through the front check out line. We were greeted by Brianna who was a breath of fresh air! Her personality was warm & bubbly. She had great conversation and answered all of my questions. We come to Michaels when we are in need of craft supplies. My daughter needed a white colored pencil for her art class so we were in the market for the Prismacolor brand since that's what she's been using and needed the same to complete her art project. This was the 2nd Michaels we went to, driving all the way across town to see if they had them. We found ONE! However the pencil was split all the way down the side and the tip was broken to where you'd have to sharpen to use at all. Since she needed the pencil for art, we opted to take it to the front and ask if we could get any sort of discount given the condition of the pencil or if they had any others in the store. There were no associates on the floor to assist, so our only option was to take to the register. We waited in line for quite some time since they only had 1 register open but a line of folks to check out. Another register finally opened and we were next -- when we got to the register, I showed the pencil to the associate and asked if we could get a discount. I mean it's a $3 pencil but being split all the way down the dang thing and the top all the way broken off, I mean something is better than nothing. She called on her mic and was told 10% off. I accepted it as that was the most that they could do. She apologized saying if it were her she'd just give me the dang thing given how it looked....but she has to do what management approves. I told her I understood and no worries. Store was quite empty as was the other Michaels we visited -- staff said it was due to the supply chain shortages. read more

It is my wife often visit art stores. We got our fist custom frame from this store. We have special cut Chinese blessing word that need to be frame. We ask the store to provide see through frame and the edge of frame that is strong to hang without notice the hang line. They have achieved it. After Christmas, they have the Christmas decorations on sale. It is good time after Christmas to look for bargain items for next year. They are many to choose from. The art stores has plenty of silk flowers if you need to decorate your home. Of course they have frame department to help you which they did a good job to our custom frame. Wood work to be paint by yourself or the painting items you need are on display. They also have small item such as color letter to design the house number. If you host a party and need a party favors, you may pick up thing or two. read more

This is my local Michael's, so I've shopped here and taken classes. However, I've started driving out of my way to another location simply because service is better. You can NEVER find an employee at the Highwoods Preserve location! Other than the people at the register checking people out, there's hardly ever anyone on the floor to help with questions. And who doesn't need help finding things here!?! I was also disappointed when I stopped in last, the first week of October. Sparse collection of the made in store Halloween wreaths and when I did find someone and asked if there were anymore, she said they were done making them for the season. Terrible customer service. If you ask about the location of an item to the staff, they don't know where it is of if they even have it. The item o was looking for, there was a whole section for it. The worst part is when you check out as they now have a self checking register and all they have is a person starting you down, and don't even say hello. Very disappointed. read more

Michael's is a necessary evil for me...I really need this place because it has a great supply of various arts, crafts, and holiday supplies; but I don't always enjoy going there because I know that 3/4 of the time I should expect to have to wait in line for an unreasonable amount of time. There are at least five registers, but I've never seen more than two being utilized at a time (usually just one). The way the registers are now set up, once you get in line you are pretty much stuck there, so I would not recommend visiting if you are in a rush or need to be somewhere else any time soon...exiting the store if you aren't making a purchase is a little annoying as well (the entrance doors do not open to allow you to exit unless someone is entering, so you have to excuse your way through a line if there is one...and there usually is). Still it is my first stop if I am looking for custom/regular frames, faux plants and florals, kids crafting supplies, jewelry making or repairing supplies, holiday decorations, etc. The aisles are usually clean and well-organized, the staff is minimal but pleasant. This is also a great place to find "as seen on TV" items, and for inexpensive solid color t-shirts for kids. Be sure to check their website while you are there, you can almost always download a decent % off coupon to use if what you are purchasing isn't already on sale. read more

I wish all Michaels were set up the same. I find it so hard to find what I need here, especially when I need one or two things and am in a bit of a rush. There's almost never anyone around to ask where something is. I get really confused by the set up of the store. The drawing and painting stuff is together, but it seems like everything else is just put wherever they felt like. Check out takes awhile because they usually only have one register open. They only have three or four registers in the front which doesn't seen like a lot to me. There's a little clearance as is section in the corner by the registers, which is nice but I never notice it until i'm all ready in line because it's kind of hidden. read more

This Michael's is in a good location- right next to Home Goods and Best Buy, and right up the road from the Muvico. They've got a pretty average size and stock for a Michael's, but this particular location seems a little understaffed. read more

Got up early on Saturday morning drove all the way over there to find out that they can't take framing orders. I understand their system is down but they should have some type a manual process to service their customers. it's better to go to a local business that's actually invested in customer service than some chain store invested in profits. read more
