I know pretty much what basic art supplies this store carries, which is good, because the store is messy, disorganized, and there is typically nobody on the floor to help. I wanted to get custom framing done on a piece of art. I looked online and after going through the selections, I decided rather to make an appointment to have someone in the framing department of the store help me. I made an appointment online for a Saturday morning. Michaels sent me an email reminder on Thursday. I arrived a half hour early and went to the framing counter. No one was there. Ok. I'm early. I waited until 5 minutes before my appointment time and rang the bell for service. A woman came to the counter and asked if I was there to pick up a picture. I told her that I was there for my appointment in 5 minutes. She said there was no one working that counter until 1:00 in the afternoon. I explained about the appointment done online and how I even received a reminder. Why was I not informed that the appointment would need to be rescheduled? There was nothing she could do. She said she was the supervisor. I told her she just lost my business. I left the store. I googled a framing store near me. I found one about 20 minutes away in Tucson. Their selection was amazing. The woman there was able to take care of my needs and the finished product was beautiful. I will go there from now on. read more

Usually I love going to this Michael's and have never had a bad experience, up until today. I purchased a christmas tree 3 days ago, when i got home and opened up the tree it was not the tree I had asked for. So I went to Michael's today with the intentions of returning or exchanging it for the correct tree. Let me first start by saying the employee who helped my boyfriend and I was VERY RUDE, not helpful, and very unprofessional. She kept interrupting my boyfriend and I and would not let us speak. We walked into the store and explained to the employee that it was the wrong tree and we wanted to return or exchange it, without even letting us finish talking she automatically said "I won't be able to exchange or return any damaged trees without the warranty being purchased with it". I'm not sure how or why she assumed the tree was damaged or that we hadn't purchased the warranty in the first place, but I tried to explained to her once again that the tree was not damaged, it was just the wrong tree, but of course without letting me finish she says "so then what's wrong with it" AGAIN my boyfriend tried to explain to her that we were given the WRONG tree when we purchased it, "Sorry but per company policy we cannot return or exchange any trees where the box has been opened unless you purchased the warranty". Again, I'm not sure why she assumed the warranty was not purchased with the tree. I tried to explain AGAIN that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the tree, we had the receipt and that we didn't even take the tree out of the box. The employee rudely interrupted me to tell me that it was the companies policy and there was NOTHING she could do. I left the store, called another michael's and was told I indeed COULD return or exchange the tree. read more

There was a young man there who was extremely helpful. That was my only plus. when I got to the checkout, I asked a young lady named Jack if she could check me out. She walked out of her area and said, yes, ah, no... I'm hot. I need to take off my sweater. she continued to play with her sweater while myself and others waited for the next cashier. she kept playing with her sweater and apron, until someone else helped us. Totally unprofessional! if you don't want me in your store and so t want my business, close your doors. The other people waiting were not impressed either. read more

I came in a hurry for one specific item for a holiday gift project to my "trusted" neighborhood Michaels. I came 10 minutes before closing to find that the employees locked the doors 10 minutes before closing time. I knocked and knocked while standing outside in the cold and watching four employees hold their personal belongings ready to head out. It would have taken about 3 mins for the company to earn another sale since I knew exactly what I had needed. I went to the next nearby opened store instead. I did not know it was okay to close a retail store before their posted closing time. read more

This location only had one cashier working and that's always the case here. This is frustrating, but the store is clutteted in several areas--maybe they're just messy because they're putting Christmas stuff up. But it definitely isn't pleasant having to move through this place. Selection has dwindled over the years. They used to have lots of plaster figures you could paint and now they only have a few directed towards kids. I've had to start purchasing all of my Christmas village paint it yourself plaster figurines online. The paint for these is also a lot cheaper online and can be sent with the figures so I don't need to come here for those a anymore. I stopped by in search of some paint by numbers to entertain my mother. Again, they used to have many of these. Now they have a few (again, something a child would paint) and they only had a few of the newer diamond paint by numbers. Obviously the paint ones would not work for an adult. I thought about getting a diamond one but they are three times the price of what you can get them online for!!! If this was a "mom and pop" operation, I would have bought one. But unfortunately these big box stores have the same high prices from years of old when Amazon and other online retailers didn't exist. They offer less and less customer service (saw no one on the floor, only on cashier who wasn't very friendly when I purchased a set of paintbrushes--they were on clearance and affordable) and keep the prices high. I'm honestly surprised this location remains open. read more

My wife used to love this place but i guess the last couple times she'd been in there the experience hasn't been good -- more in line with some of the other low-ish reviews. She was real upset that they had the bathroom on lockdown you had to be escorted by a sales associate which seemed to never be available and thus you had to walk across the lot to Home Depot. So home depot can manage public washrooms and Michaels can't? read more

I ordered a new cricut machine online for store pickup. When I got home and unpacked it, I watched the setup tutorial and it seemed that the box had been opened before. The tape looked like it was replaced and it was not shrink-wrapped as shown in the set up video. When I opened the machine itself, I realized the machine was missing the cutting blade that was supposed to be included. I immediately packed it up and went back to Michaels. They told me they couldn't take the machine back and I had to contact the manufacturer. Nothing in my order paperwork showed that it couldn't be returned and all I wanted was a replacement machine or even just the blade. They refused and told me I had to contact Cricut. Not at all acceptable considering I spent over $300 on a defective machine they provided just hours before. I can't complete set up and cant use the machine unless I buy a new blade and housing, which is another $40 read more

I'm going to have to agree with Jennifer's assessment of the appearance and layout of this store. It is very cluttered. That said, I kind of see it more as that cubby hole where all your arts and crafts tools are stuffed. I don't know, the clutter somehow seems at home when it comes to looking for craft supplies. I typically am not the one buying stuff mind you--the reason I go is for the wife to restock. But I always have a great time looking through the different kits, models, and ideas for crafting. Scrap bookers, from what I've seen would do well to pay this store a visit. One complaint--while the cashiers are helpful, you might want to bring a book to read while waiting in line to check out. read more

As far as a Michael's goes, this store is above average. If there we a 3.5 star that is what I would give it. Like other Michael's, there is never much help on the floor if you need it, but usually here - you can spot someone to ask a question if you have one. There is almost always only one cashier...it is usually the farthest one from where the line begins! That doesn't make much sense in terms of efficiency. All in all, it is usually neat & clean. read more

This is the worst Michael's I have shopped at. Only one cashier with 15 people in line to pay. No sales help on the floor to ask questions of. Only one of three items I needed were available. This is why I shop mostly on Amazon. The restrooms were disgusting. One toilet was out of order and the other one filthy. You could tell the sinks hadn't been scrubbed thoroughly in months. I was only here once, thank God. I liked the store, but thought it was over priced, and they all look kinda the same. Lots of.....stuff....you can buy, and spend a lots of money on. I admire people that do crafts. It is a talent and a gift, Lots of cool stuff to look at there too. Staff, very helpful. I have not been in there since March 2014. I am really OK with that. They keep the rest rooms locked. You have to find a salesperson then wait and wait until they come and unlock the door. Not a great customer experience. And the floor was dirty and toilet paper dispenser was empty. The chart that shows when they last cleaned it was dated 3/7, it is now the end of June. Manager said they don't have time to fill out the chart, what no time for an employee to sign their initials? Thats a bogus excuse. It shows what they think of their customers. I had ordered a Halloween inflatable online and didn't receive a receipt except for the email confirmation which was fine in the beginning. When I received the inflatable, I noticed the box said it was from "michaels returns". I didn't think anything of it and started setting up my item. When I was done, I realized the inflatable had a hole in it and wasn't even standing up right. $60+ is a lot of money for a damaged item, I decided to return it in store since that was one of the choices. I went to this store being that it's the closest to me. One of the employees that helped me seemed annoyed that I wanted to process a return at all and started to give me a hard time about not having a receipt even though I never received one, and even though I showed her the email order confirmation. She even told me I was only able to get store credit and I told her I needed the money back on my card. I feel like it wasn't good customer service at all! They accept digital coupons!!! I love that everyone is always super helpful in person and on the phone. I was having trouble finding a few items for my project at home and was in need of pure Beeswax and i could not find it anywhere in Tucson and Michael's had it. Not only that but i had a 40% off coupon and was going to do 2 separate transactions to use the 40% off my most expensive item and they will automatically do this! AMAZING! I love this store and could definitely get lost in it - there are so many different craft ideas and items you wouldn't think of for gift ideas. The store is very clean and organized and staff is friendly and helpful. They also offer craft classes- definitely gonna look into that! read more

The bathroom was horrific!! I doubt they clean it!. Dead crickets, toilets were so disgusting, sink had hair and just filth all over I didn't even want the bottom of shoes to touch the floor in there. The whole store as a matter of fact was filthy but that bathroom was by far one of THE MOST DISGUSTING BATHROOMS I HAVE EVER SEEN!! read more

Bought some spray glue for a project. Turns out it sat on the shelf for 8 years (date on can from 2008) - the glue never dried and the propellant didn't work right. So, they don't check their perishable inventory. Now I know to do it. Heads up, folks. However, when I tried to return it for a refund, an employee advised me I had to enter the checkout line with everyone else. Since it's Christmas shopping season, the line was literally back to the entry door. I ended up throwing the product away - wasn't worth the hassle. Don't shop there much, will likely go there even less now. Not impressed by the lack of concern for seasonal shopping issues - most places have a dedicated customer return area. As a cosplayer, I often am doing some kind of project and frequent this location. It's not the best Michael's I've been to, but it's also not horrible. Usually very understaffed, makes it impossible to get help, or use the restroom (it being locked and all). But these problems stem from the side of town it's on. Which is sad. You can usually find just what you need though... unless you're looking for extra large acrylic stones or jewels for a costume and have to drive all over town and not find them anywhere. Not a single store anywhere in Tucson, so I guess that doesn't reflect on this location that much. Just the nature of my costume. read more
