I love me some Paper Source. I'm like a Paper Source groupie though. I like go in and look at all the beautiful papers and pens and what not and like wish I crafted more often. But I will say, Paper Source is a REALLY good place for little special gifts, trinkets, planners, etc. They really do have a fantastically curated selection of all of those things plus more. I can't count the number of times I've gone into that store and just browsed around. Sometimes, I've picked up little raffle prizes or gifts for friends. Most of the time I'm looking around and being like "oh, that's cute... and that's cute." "Oh, look at that!" They had these big clearance bins out when I was there last time. I was actually looking for like 20 cheaper end journals to write in. I KNEW Paper Source probably wouldn't have anything like what I was looking for... but I went in anyway. I bought a stamping pad. Unfortunately, my sense of humor has evolved very little since middle school thus prompting me to purchase Doo Keys. What exactly are Doo Keys, you ask? Crap. No seriously, they are. Doo Keys are colorful, little key toppers with fun, cute faces. Only, they're poop. Well disguised, turds. I topped off one of my keys with one that has stylish little glasses and asked my girlfriend what she thought it was. Her first guess? A cupcake. Which is what I think I'll start using as a euphemism for poo. I really only came into Paper Source to buy a card for a friend and I left with Doo Keys. An extraordinary con! Simply put- - - that's what this place is. I went in (after making an appointment to have my Christmas gifts wrapped (they do have a wrapping service) . I had 11 small to medium sized gifts. The largest was a pair of pajamas for my wife in a box. They said it was $8.00 a gift plus supplies. Fairly exorbitant ,I know , but still I was in a rush and they told me to be back in 3 hours. I can back in 3 hours and to my horror found out that my total bill was $168.00. That's $88.00 for the wrapping per gift ($11x8) plus an extra $80.00 to wrap the gifts. That means they charged me $80.00 for wrapping paper and packing tape. I was incredulous----they gave me every explanation from (Made in USA wrapping paper to handcrafted etc) . This was beyond the pale of anything "boogie Bethesda expensive " this was plain and simple highway robbery --- and that even wouldn't accurately represent the $80.00 charged for wrapping paper and tape. Avoid this masquerade at all costs! If you'd like to donate your money away , may I suggest your neighborhood rescue shelter. read more

I love your products and cards. I was so happy to find this location close to Silver Spring. I bought some cards the day before yesterday and came back today to buy another card. The store is adorable and so are the employees-- except one. I think her name is Isa or Lisa. Long brown hair, rolled her eyes at me throughout my shopping experience. I was hoping that today would be her day off, but no. She saw me as soon as I walked in and again rolled her eyes. I'm not sure what the issues were, because both times I came in, picked out cards and then went to check out. The second time today though she sighed at me and said, "so you're ready to check out?" I wished her a good day both times but honestly she's the reason I won't be back. I think I noticed her training someone the day before yesterday and I hope that person has a good experience with her. Hope she treats other folks better. This sweet little Bethesda spot is beautifully laid out and full of gorgeous, premium paper products from high-quality and picture perfect wrapping paper and handmade greeting cards to designer office products and stationery (including goodies from Lilly Pullitzer, Erin Condren, my personal favorite Kate Spade, and more). I could spend insane amounts of money here and plan to in the future. The staff seemed friendly although my husband and I had just stopped in while perusing the Bethesda Arts Festival, so I didn't require any help or anything. Souvenirs are fun but can take up too much space in your luggage. Enter the Paper Source with its gorgeous paper products that slipped easily into my small suitcase. I know that these stores are in the Chicago area also but it was easier to justify as trip shopping than at home purchases. Everything here is really fun, great to look at, exquisite quality with prices that will make you ponder each card purchase. When I stopped a woman on the street for directions she smiled and told me that I would find terrific stuff but probably spend 400.00. Now I didn't come close to that but I could have! Wrapping paper, cute pads, hilarious greeting cards and all kinds of unique paper goods. If you are a sucker for that kind of stuff like I am, a trip here will be an absolute delight. A normal Paper Source! You know what you're getting into-- overpriced but high-quality goods. This is a good location with a parking garage on the same block. It has a very large calendar section in December. What impresses me the most about this location is that it has a very wide selection of same-sex wedding cards. I went to the store to buy an engagement card for two friends and expected to see one or two cards to choose from. NOPE. There were SIX same-sex engagement/wedding cards. It floored me a bit. The transformation of Bethesda to Georgetown is one step closer to completion with the addition of the Paper Source on Bethesda Ave! [Note: I'm more than thrilled to snag FTR for another new Bethesda biz, but I have to admit, it's a little less fun when Juliana C isn't around anymore to battle me for it...] Though it's a smaller storefront than its local counterparts in Georgetown (two levels) and Alexandria (bigger, more open space), you will still find the same great stationery items you've known to expect, love and spend oodles of money on while shopping here. Greeting cards, pre-packaged cards, plain envelopes in a variety of sizes and colors, rubber stamps, ink pads, embossing tools, notebooks, stickers, sheets of paper, cupcake items, aprons ... it's like stationery nerd heaven. And it's within walking distance from my office and home - which will make lunch breaks that much more fun. I've already purchased more stationery and pens that I've needed...I can only imagine how much longer it will be til I spend a whole paycheck here! Move over Papyrus, there's a new sheriff in town and he's selling more than just paper and doesn't have the name of a junky font. Paper Source is a goldmine for high quality gifts and things to buy yourself. The selection of notebooks, journals, planners, address books, recipe books, notepads, stationary, cards and all other paper items is seemingly endless and overwhelming, but in the good way of I-want-to-buy-everything-I-have-the-honor-of-laying-my-eyes-on, which is actually a bad thing because you'd be broke if you bought everything the Paper Source has in its cornucopia (it's a pricey place). As aforementioned, the paper goods selection is incredible. Other fun things you can find in Paper Source include those personalized stamps that press into hot wax (I have to own one of these one day), awesome selection of writing utensils, fun things for kids, cool books about design, life, love, et al, scrap-booking materials, and all sorts of big and small doodads. There is an entire wall of sheets of paper that can be used for anything from wrapping paper to drawer-liners to posters! I got an insane sheet that has a map of residences and transit lines in NYC from the 1950s, super cool. As a designer, writer and human, I love everything the Paper Source offers. read more

My 7 year old granddaughter attended camp there the week of August 19-23. She had an absolute blast and is already talking about attending next year! Carmilla and Paloma were the camp counselors. They were delightful... very enthusiastic! Each day when we arrived the counselors were prepared with the days projects. They devoted alot of time and effort into the preparations and it showed. Paper Source offers classes for both adults and children throughout the year. Since my granddaughter had such a wonderful experience, I plan to take a class. read more

I called here frantically searching for a guest book for a beloved family member's funeral reception later that day. I spoke with Carmen, who was so kind and helpful. The moment I walked in, with my red, tear streaked face, she knew who I was and pulled the book out from behind the counter where she'd held it for me. Despite being a total stranger, was so kind and supportive in the few minutes we spoke while she rung me up. They have a really wonderful assortment of goods here, and there's parking right across the street. About two years ago, as I was planning my wedding, you would find me in the Bethesda Paper Source for at least an hour each visit, just learning about the different products and how to use them. It didn't take me long to become obsessed. It would be hard not to see the beautiful papers and feel inspired when you are in Paper Source. As I went in more and more I got to know the staff and ended up applying to be a seasonal employee around the holiday season last year. I can say with real assurance, even from the "inside," I truly love Paper Source! Everyone working there has a real passion for the product and loves paper arts as much as I do. The thought of penning a hand-written note on some fine stationary for my loved ones usually makes me giddy and I'm usually just hoping I can fit it all in one card but when I ran in the other evening for a card for a friend who's recently lost her father I was really just hoping for a card with someone else's words that would just express the sympathy I was feeling ... Now I understand this location is a lot smaller than the Georgetown store so they can only have so much inventory but the condolence card selection was unreasonably lacking in my opinion. There might have been 4 or 5 and my fellow card lovers out there know that just simply isn't enough. I read them all and decided I could make one work. I still rate 3 stars because the shop has a great selection of "just because" cards and trinkets and the staffers are very friendly. And while I hope I never have to send another condolence card for the rest of my life, that's not very feasible so I'll probably go to another store. read more

I go here for off-beat gifts for discerning friends. * They have a sample table in the front of the store where you can demo the products that they carry. Minuses: They close really early! 7pm latest, so it's hard to go after work. I am also getting married and need wedding invitations. Came here to check things out, and there are two routes: full-service (the prices made me cringe), and DIY. If you go the DIY route, there are more affordable sources of envelopes, card stock, etc online, but you will have to wait an extra day or two to get your materials. Be warned that Paper Source does not carry A7 outer mailing envelopes in the store (those are online only). The prices for the DIY crafty stuff = pretty pricey. You can go to Michael's up Rockville Pike and get exactly the same things for about $1-$2 less per item (it adds up!) and stack Michael's coupons on top of that. Paper Source = no coupons + much higher prices. Summary: Will come back for gifts, go elsewhere for crafting supplies. read more

this place is cute and has a lot of random stuff. this particular location does not have the greatest card selection but they have other items that made my friend's birthday gift a little more special, you just have to dig to find stuff. i wound up getting a coffee mug where the heavy eyelids disappear from atop the eyes when the cup is hot (aka full of coffee). amusing! got some cool wrapping paper from the hanging sheets on the wall. grabbed some colorful tissue paper from the rack in front of that to replace the disgusting bubble wrap protecting the mug, and grabbed a set of pretty skyline stationary + envelope set from the blank cards section to write a message. (it was actually a one pager, not a folded card, which i love!) same issue with the pens: they need a better pen selection! store employees are friendly and helpful. but it is wicked expensive! if you know in advance that you want to go there, sign up for their email updates online. i believe the girl in the store said it takes about two weeks for them to send you a coupon. not sure how true that is or when the coupon expires, but if you spend a hundred bucks, it starts making a difference! at the end of the day, i'm not sure how i feel about my purchase, but if you have extra time in bethesda and are bored, walk around! side note: i spent $140 (i bought other items) and it was raining outside. they still charged me 5 cents for a PAPER bag. ?!? lesson: bring your own freaking bag. read more

PLEASE DON'T GO. Although I had many pleasant experiences from this store previously, my family and I were discriminated against due to color of our skin today from the store manager, "Theresa". She was blatantly rude from the first encounter and told us to shop across the street to CVS as the store only sells "PROFESSIONAL ITEMS" and didn't even bother to listen to us of what we were exactly looking for ( SOMETHING FOR PROFESSIONAL REASON, LIKE WORK). However, as I was walking out the store, she had approached an Caucasian female first and asked if assistance was needed. I believe company that hires such racist personnel as manager has people management and education issues of their own, Appropriate work ethics and manners need to be educated among these employee. read more

I like paper source. I'm really into stationary, and the hubs is on strict orders to get me "pretty" stationary when it comes to birthday, anniversary, fill in the blank cards! This is our go to store. They have beautiful cards with quality cardstock, and I love the letterpress. I came looking for a congratulations gift for my hairstylist starting college this month, and the staff were so helpful. They gave me suggestions when I asked for it, but didn't hover when I wanted to take my time and browse. They have a great selection of gifts for when you just don't want to get someone another gift card, but still want to get them a useful gift. I'm a fan! read more
