I had a pretty positive experience here while ordering wedding inviting cards. They are completely turnkey and they handled the entire process from design to printing and delivery. I was surprised to see how many options that they had. We chose 150 custom designed invititation cards, and it took them less than ten days to complete everything. I was helped by Kate and she was extremely knowledgeable about the entire process. What's cool about this store is that they even have wonderful gift items for nearly every occasion. This is the only review I've ever done on yelp. But in this case I felt like my extremely negative experience warranted one. If I could give zero stars I would. I did my wedding invitations through Write for You. They were beyond unprofessional throughout the entire experience. While I had issues with the company for our 6-month interaction, here are the three most egregious interactions: 1. For an 8-week period of time a few months before my wedding, I was unable to get ahold of anyone at the shop. I emailed and called many times. I only heard back after leaving a final message asking if the business was still open and if I'd need to find another vendor. 2. Two months out from my wedding, I received notification that my invitations had arrived. On the same day, I received an invoice that included a $300 charge above my quote. This wasn't the first out-of-the-blue charge that had occurred in my interactions with Write for You. The owner told me this charge was for "ribbons and labor" and thus would not remove it. I was not previously notified of this charge and said I would only pay for what I was quoted. We went back and forth and the interaction eventually ended with: the owner yelling over the phone, the owner telling me she couldn't believe I was arguing over $300 because it's only $300, and the owner threatening to withhold the invitations. She also notified me that both she and her husband were lawyers. I ended up paying the extra amount because I needed the invitations (a fact she certainly knew). 3. Finally, after all of that, there was a typo on the invitations. Not only did Write for You refuse to reprint the invitations or refund me for any of the cost, but I couldn't even get someone to respond to my emails and calls. Presumably because I'd already paid. I don't think I can convey in a review what a terrible and exasperating experience this was the entire time. But I hope to convey to anyone thinking of using Write for You - avoid, avoid, avoid! read more

This store has a lot of potential, but I will probably not visit here again since the customer service was annoying. After randomly eating lunch in this neighborhood, my friend and I were on our way to Georgetown to buy some thank you cards, but changed our minds when we saw Write for You. The store is located just around the corner from where we ate lunch, on a cute block in Chevy Chase. We decided to check it out, and I ended up finding what I was looking for right away -- blank cards. I had to buy a lot, and wanted to see if there were any more in the back, but the sales representative who was working the floor kept brushing me off for the older women with children who were browsing at the same time. Finally, I decided to just go ahead and buy the cards they had available, and then worry about it later when I ran out. I took the cards to the register, and the woman barely made eye contact with me while I purchased more than $100 worth. No "thank you," "hi" or anything -- she acted like she didn't hear that I asked how she was doing. Busted! I got the general vibe that I wasn't the type of customer they prefer to see, so I'll do us all a favor and never return. read more

I waltzed in here one day out of curiosity, not expecting to find anything I needed. I like stationary and card shops, but they're usually over-priced and rather tacky. However, I was pleasantly surprised by this place. Especially the prices! This is a small business in D.C.- you expect the prices to be disturbingly high. But they actually weren't. I'd say this place is slightly cheaper than your average Hallmark. So, at quite reasonably prices, I found some things I had to have and proceeded to check out. My customer service experience wasn't really good or bad. I waited a couple minutes; eventually, someone came and took my money and handed me my bag. I didn't get the feeling they really like customers, but they weren't overtly rude so I'm good with that. A cozy, highly browsable little store in my neighborhood that sells lovely stationery/whimsical gifts. Things I've picked up: - cute decorative bags for holiday treats - kitchen timer shaped like an [adorable] owl - one of those spindly-armed head massagers that gives you pleasant little scalp shivers (Defensive side note: not ALL of my $$ is spent on junk, er, delightful sundries.) I'm a little surprised at the scathing reviews on here since I've always had a pleasant experience (though I've never ordered customized stationery or anything). read more

I just love what the new owner June has done with the store. It's bright, cheerful and full of beautiful cards and stationery that I would like to buy. The ladies who work at this place are straight up mean. They obviously only cater to ancient, rich, white, stuffy women in Chevy Chase. I work right around the corner so I've gone in two or three times but never again. They are rude, ignore you, and seem like they just want to get you out of the store. I grew up near the store and had wandered in from time to time. The prices were always high and the staff was always unpleasant. Thus, I knew better than to get my wedding invitations there. However, mom liked the proximity so there we went. To be fair, the women are knowledgeable about their stock and traditional wedding invitations, but they are snooty and uninterested in helping a budget bride. This did not surprise me but I was still willing to work with them until I had already paid my deposit for the invitations.... Make SURE that you have them write down the prices that they quote you. I was quoted one price (on two different occasions) and charged a much higher price for the reception cards. I had the figures written down on two separate sheets in my notebook, but since "they" did not have that price written down they wouldn't budge. They couldn't figure out "where that price came from". I assured that that it had come from Them. This inconsistency ended up costing me $80 more and I was very upset with them. This was just mean! I told them that if they misquote a price it's their problem not mine! Still, they didn't budge. My invitations are pretty, but I would have designed the same ones at any other store. Go somewhere else. If you can't, make sure to get everything in writing! read more

I recently ordered custom stationery and I couldn't have been more pleased with it. The staff is very helpful and they have tons of little gifts. I love the vibe in this place. It's all things pretty and lovely. I've come here for all of my hostess gifts too. They sell the MOST delectable Brazilian treats you've ever had. They're like little hugs in a bit size piece. The packaging is what is really captivating. Perhaps because I love the color blue :-) Absolutely love coming here! read more

Dreadful. I ordered 200 package sized return address stickers and didn't notice that they came back saying Mrs. & Mrs. I used a couple dozen before I noticed and then took them back to the store. They had been ordered for Mr. & Mrs. When I showed them the mistake and asked that they reorder at no charge to me, the owner snapped, Oh so you're trying to get something for free." I said no and that I had, in fact, been a good customer, ordering invitations and buying cards. She continued to berate me. Her best offer was that I could pay full price for a new order. Owning a stationery store does not make you God. PLEASE observe your younger employees who are not only knowledgeable but courteous. This shop is a jewel! The staff was so nice & skillful at helping my daughter select her wedding invitations, tying in place cards, save the date, etc. It made it a wonderful experience for her. They are professionals - bringing up aspects of the process that I wouldn't have thought to ask on my own (first wedding), following up on shipping times & making sure that everything was accurate & delivered on schedule. The staff is so personable and helpful. They always have great ideas for the perfect gifts for my husband, my nieces/nephew, and my colleagues at work. Contrary to the other reviews, I've never had anything but good service here, and I'm NOT an older white lady from Upper NW. I've always found the staff helpful and friendly. The only problem I've ever had is that their selection is somewhat limited unless you want to drop a TON of money, but they are very accommodating in every way. I could not have been more satisfied the service, the employee who assisted me made great suggestions and ultimately designed and provided my business cards.
