(Using my husband's account to write this review.) We booked a photo session with Michelle for our big trip to Oahu recently. I had been worried over all the details for months, like what we would wear, how we would wake up in time, would the kids cooperate, would I like the location, would it be too windy. I'm a worrier. And to top it off, during the photo shoot, my younger daughter was pretty much done with taking photos after 20 minutes. I cried when I saw the pictures! Thinking that our time here in Hawaii may be limited, my husband and I half-heartedly began a search for a Honolulu family photographer. We desperately wanted family photos of our children in the only home they've ever known, but hesitated for several reasons. Other parents of blind or special needs children know: it is so difficult to get pictures that truly "connect" with and show the personality of a blind child. We had run into difficulty with other photographers who tried too hard with our visually impaired son, waiting for what they imagined would make the "perfect picture," to only end up getting an obviously contrived expression and an annoyed child. Michelle was sooo different. From the beginning, she was laid-back and natural--while still maintaining a confident professionalism. She did not worry too much about specific poses: giving us minimal direction while encouraging natural interaction with our children--finding beautiful images. She even encouraged us to bring their favorite toys and objects to occupy them during pictures--which worked wonderfully to both occupy them and receive beautiful, real photos. She let me peer into her camera for a sneek peek of a photo she had just taken of our son playing with his favorite airplane and I immediately teared up. Even in the small display, I could tell that she had captured his amazing personality like no one could in the past 5 years. A perfect keepsake for the memory of who he is now. The pictures of my daughter are equally as stunning...not to mention those of our family. But again, parents of children with special needs will understand what a miracle it is to have your child not only comfortable, relaxed and happy...but also receive beautiful images from this time. Needless to say, we are very happy. We would and have recommended Michelle to anyone looking for a family photographer on Oahu--or any other occasion, for that matter. 5 stars doesn't seem like enough for our experience. read more
