I decided to add an egress to my basement and from the get go this company was great; friendly, professional and knowledgeable. They passed the permit process with flying colors and I was impressed when the inspector said he liked working with this company because they did things right. My worry was having the work done in January and having a huge whole in my foundation for hours. It didn't happen. Since this company installed our egress window, we've had repeated leaking during heavy rains, with water visibly coming through around the installed window area. I spent a considerable amount of time trying to handle this professionally and work toward a solution with the company. At their request, I even took additional time out of my workday to recreate the leak using a hose test and documented everything with photos. The result was clear -- water still entered through the window area after exposure. What has been most frustrating is the response afterward. Instead of taking ownership and actively working toward a permanent fix, I was repeatedly told the issue was likely my bricks, foundation, or something unrelated to their installation. Regardless of the exact source, the fact remains that the leaking became substantially worse after the install, and I hired a professional company specifically to prevent problems like this. Water intrusion is a serious issue, and customers should not have to repeatedly troubleshoot or investigate an installation issue themselves after paying for professional work. At this point, I've lost confidence that this will be resolved properly through them and am now looking into hiring a third-party company to repair the issue correctly. I will also be pursuing reimbursement for the additional costs associated with fixing this problem. I rarely leave negative reviews, but I think it's important for potential customers to understand not just the installation experience, but also how issues are handled afterward. *UPDATE 2/19/25* The original review is below. I do have an update. The city FAILED their permit and the company refused to do anything to correct it, stating that it was passed originally and now it's my problem. The permit was passed because the city was led to believe that they correct attached the drain to an exterior drain tile (did not exist) and once discovered the city FAILED the permit. I had to pay for an exterior drain system to pump water to the storm drain which cost me $20,000. Do not use this company! I will also address the business owner who commented below. Do not be deceived, they were made aware of no drain tile via email as you can see in the screenshots over a month before digging. They were to provide sufficient drainage, what do you think, did they do their job? The permit will ultimately failed as the city determined they were deceived into believing the company attached to an exterior drain tile. Yes, the company sent the drawings of an exterior drain tile attachment to the city and then did not follow through. I am happy to share this with whomever and am working on legal this year after recouping my losses. ----- First off let me say I would leave ZERO stars if I could and I hope you take a few minutes to learn why before using this company. *Photos attached* I hired this company to install two egress windows at my home in order to meet rental code for the bedrooms in the basement. The work was done on 5/21 and 5/22. Weeks prior to the work being done I voiced several concerns I had after researching Egress windows and potential issues, one of which was the way they would drain. I am not the licensed professional here and I put my faith in the them to do the work correctly. I explained that the house likely does not have an exterior drain tile and was concerned how that would work. They ASSURED me that "we are trained for this situation and have worked countless times with inspectors to insure it has sufficient drainage". I left it at that, knowing that the city would also have to sign off on the work being done. Skip forward to a week ago (approx. July 1st) when I was made aware of water on the floor in the basement. It didn't sound like an alarming amount, however, it was a foreshadow for what was to come. I was out of town and upon arriving back in town I did observe some water under the vinyl flooring in the basement and then identified that the dirt around the wells they dug had recessed a significant amount. I made them aware of this, days before the next major rainfall. I requested more dirt be brought to the house to help aid in slowing the drainage... they denied me that and said to contact them when there is 2-3 days of no rain for the new seals to dry (avoiding the question about dirt completely). The rain came and as you can see from the photos it filled up the wells. Hundreds of gallons of water between the two wells and over 40 gallons that I personally shop vac'd out of the basement. I did this in an effort to create more time for the company to rectify the mistake that was made in regards to draining the wells. Upon reminding them of the email conversation we had (screenshot below), they said "Yes I am aware of our email conversation, and drainage was added up to code and to the requirements of the inspector." I am going to be contacting the city inspector tomorrow, who I believe is also liable considering they approved this work which is CRAZY! Understand that while this is a very unfortunate situation, I made the decision to make it public because they are attempting to do NOTHING to help me alleviate the situation other than add new seals when clearly there is more work to be done. As multiple other reviewers attest, and Michigan Egress themselves acknowledge, this company is not equipped or skilled to deal with a situation in which there is not an exterior drain tile for your home (something you may not know until they start digging). Nonetheless, they will go ahead and install an egress window without providing adequate drainage. In our case, they assured us it would probably be ok and told us we could hire someone else to install a sump pump if we had flooding in the future (an option that other contractors since have told us is not ideal). After our first flood, Michigan Egress did help us repair damaged drywall. They gave us 2 leads on other companies who might help--neither of which panned out. After the second flood and repeated requests for help, they stopped returning our calls. I eventually found 2 other companies on my own who were willing and skilled to connect the egress window to an easily accessible interior drain in our house. The additional work to secure the window and repair flood damage cost us $5,000. We have learned that SAS and Diamond Creek Egress are companies offering a wider range of services and who proudly stand behind their work. Call them instead! read more

Zero stars, but this platform does not allow that. If you are considering this company, PLEASE read this entire review. Watch the video. I had TWO floods. Lots of lost stuff from the water. Lost income on the rental money I was going to receive from the basement. If working with a company with a solid ethical core is important to you, do NOT hire this one. They didn't bother to tell me that I should wait until a few rains before having the interior of the window finished out. You can see from the pic that that was $400 wasted. I gave them EVERY chance to do right by me. I had my egress window installed nearly four months ago, I am finally giving up on Tom the owner being a good human who does the right thing. I told him two months ago that if they didn't work with me getting this right that I would take to writing bad reviews, which I loathe doing. I always want to support small, independent businesses and go out of my way to do so. He reacted by emailing me that they were having defamation lawsuit papers drawn up against me. For threatening to write a bad review. Wow. Such astounding arrogance. Bad reviews are as much a part of doing business as satisfied customers, no matter how many of the latter there are. I then sent him a compromise, reimburse me for expenses incurred from the two floods, at total that is about a tenth of the cost they would incur if they did what should be done and connect through the basement floor to my house sump pump. He refuses to accept responsibility for the homeowner hell this job has caused me and refused my compromise. He claims they have gone above and beyond working with me. He has offered zero regret for the stress and loss this has caused me. The job they did on the two windows that got glass blocks was absolutely horrible and did so much damage around the windows that his daughter sent out a drywaller to repair the messes. That is the ONLY way they worked with me. The guy who did the job complained about his employer to me. And the crew leader of the egress job did a lot of bitching about Ann Arbor. Michigan Egress technically has a failed city inspection on this job, but somehow it went from a fail to 're-inspection' in public records. The job originally passed and when I submitted my video evidence to the city, I was informed the company changed the plan they submitted to the city last minute, which explains why they canceled me the scheduled job day and moved me to the next day. Turns out the new plan did not satisfy city code. (HOW did they get a pass originally then?? I suspect something awry with our city inspection department by it going from pass to fail to re-inspection, which allows the company to skate on me, but that's another story.) I have a paper trail of emails to prove my patience and willingness to compromise with the company. What I have received in return is utter arrogance. The things Tom has written are so offensively inaccurate. This company and this man do not deserve your money. They don't care when they make a mistake. He lied and said in thirty years he's never experienced anything like this. Oh please, search all the reviews and you can see this isn't his first dissatisfied customer rodeo. Not even close. His crew leader promised me that he would stand behind the job if I had problems. I am single senior citizen on a fixed income, I fell so hard on the tile floor in my basement in the first flood that I am lucky I didn't shatter my pelvis. They don't care. An outstanding administrative issue was finally resolved with them which took more time and effort from me than appropriate. This company flooded my basement. They told me they'd dry out my damaged flooring then I had to have it reinstalled as if I damaged and flooded my basement. The window is clearly improperly installed. Yet some how they had a supposed to be city inspector who showed no credentials. Walked in my home barely looked at the window and exited disregarding me saying that window leaked everything we have a heavy downpour of rain. I called 8 different times where I was told it's only when it rains heavy as if that makes the leak ok. It's was simply disregard after disregard. This company is HORRIBLE in so many ways. After damaging and flooding my basement they even tried to act as if the leak came from somewhere else even though it was pouring in from the egress window they just installed. read more

Installed window, service seemed great pre-installation. Then instead of calling the inspector, left a note on calling the inspector and bailed. Upon further review I noticed the cover was the wrong size for the egress window and was like something they must have had lying around (I paid extra for it by the way), then when the inspector came out, he said they failed to water proof seal the installation and that they needed to come back. Even before the inspector came, I my wife and I had called them (their office rings as a Glass Block company) over 20 times. The secretary promised us a fix by Mid-December. On December 22, she promised me the guy would guy would be out Monday morning at 9 AM. I waited until 9:45, then called, only to get the company voice mail.
