I called, she was very polite (apologies her name escapes me). We scheduled a visit, same day between 12-3. About 12 I had a knock on the door and it was Mark from MPR. Mark came in assessed the situation, quoted a price and got to work. He also took extra care in our crowded basement. Mark had to do some extra work to fix the issue and somewhat unexpectedly he stuck with the quoted price. When the drain was flowing nicely, he cleaned up the areas and prepared the bill. If you're looking to get the rod. This is the place. Decided to call them about a toilet that would not flush completely requiring two flushes once in awhile. This turns out to be the MOST common call these guys get. What's likely the problem is there's an obstruction if you plunge it aggressively or better use one of the air shooting plungers. It will usually fix the problem. If it doesn't then you snake it. This is supposedly what this company is good at. The other cause is a plugged vent on your roof. Yes, your toilet vents outside it wouldn't go down the pipe if not. If you have heavy fall leaves or a birds nest this could cause it. Although less frequent. There's a mesh so the cleaning requires a wet vac suction or pouring water down it. The "associate" came out opened some things flushed a few times and said obstruction. I said snake it. He says they only carry the small 8 ft snake on the truck. And this would cost an additional $150 to take out of the truck. The fee to just show up was $90. And worker says he didn't know if it would fix it. You may need a longer snake. Fine, I said run the big 20' snake. He replies nope, I don't carry it, I said well just put the camera probe down there and see how far the obstruction is. Nope, that's $400 and I don't have that on my truck. That's a whole separate appt. Mind you his truck was huge. But he had no useful tools. Obviously if he could put the camera down there we would know if it required the 8 ft or 20 ft snake. A lot of excuses, no actual work and $100 down the drain with these guys. They don't want to help just want to gouge you. Should have known with all those creepy homemade tv ads with the demented sexual undertone they run during college football. Avoid these guys at all cost. They can Power rod their a**. My problem was those wet wipes being flushed down. Even if it says flushable they aren't. Don't use them now. *** response Avoid at all costs. If my toilet was shooting out the sewage of a thousand Ann Arbor's. I would still not call these folks. The associate only had the short snake. No medium or long. I remember it as 8' and 20'. Bottom line is I can't teach people to do their jobs. Especially when I'm asking for help and I'm getting a lazy, don't care attitude. They charge $70-$80 to show up and offer an opinion which will lead to another billed appointment in their hopes. If they stay for a certain period, not sure if 40 min, an hour or what they charge you even more for the show up charge. That's how I ended up paying about $100. My main sewer line backed up on Sunday. When I managed a business in an old building in Ann Arbor, Hutzel was my go to for plumbing issues. Twice they referred me to MPR for clogged main lines and the situation was handled promptly and efficiently. Consequently I called MPR on Monday morning. They were there later that morning. Chris, the technician was friendly, knowledgeable and very efficient in getting the problem corrected. It was genuinely a very great experience. I must say that I am not a price-sensitive person, I don't mind paying a premium for prompt and expert service. That said, MPR uses a flat-rate system for problem solving, nice that it is up-front and predictable. Also I checked the charge for the last similar service that they performed at my business 13 years ago and it was MORE than I was charged on Monday. Highly recommend Michigan Power Rodding. I found MPR via Google as I was trying to figure out how to diagnose a drain issue in my basement that several other plumbing companies came to look at and said I would need to "dig to diagnose, then pay to repair." These plumbers used cameras, but couldn't view one on of the problem areas. Scott and another gentleman came to my house on 2/9/2023, the same day that I called MPR and they were able to use their cameras to investigate and diagnose my storm line issue that had been going on for years (unexplained) that other plumbing companies couldn't access with their cameras. The video report that MPR provided was exceptionally detailed and I was able to share it with my homeowner's insurance who actually paid for the repair because of how informative the report was. MPR's work saved a massive amount of digging in my basement floor because the problem area was accurately pinpointed so a plumbing company (they suggested when I asked for a referral), could fix the issue. Their referral was excellent. I have already shared MPR's information with several neighbors who are having similar drainage issues in our aging neighborhood. I want to update this review and reflect that MPR has resolved my issue to my satisfaction. I appreciate the company stepping up and doing the right thing. Thanks to Gregg Greene for doing the right thing. As of this posting, MPR still has not and will not reimburse me $1,000 that I paid to REMOVE their EQUIPMENT from MY property. This company is horribly irresponsible. So disappointed. To respond to the owner's post, I ask, what have you done since MAY 23rd to resolve this issue? It has not been 12 days, its been almost a month that MPR and Gregg Greene have continuously denied responsibility for their poor workmanship. One would surmise that with MPR's experience since 1995, and their technician's 17 year experience, they would have had me sign something that clarified my responsibility if they screw up and get their equipment stuck on my personal property. I signed nothing. The 17 year experienced technician gave me no warning of the "unknown" or the "unforeseen type of pipe" that could perhaps get their snake stuck which would then be my problem and expense. I have never done business with a company that lays the cost and blame on the customer when they screw up. The bottom line is, if you choose to do business with MPR, their cost of doing business will become yours, be forewarned. read more

Our Kitchen sink got back up on Friday. Called a couple companies, only MPR was open to make appointment on Saturday and also no extra charge during weekend. I was told that they will come between 4 pm and 7 PM. Got call around 2:30 PM that Charles would come within 30 minutes. Charles came on time and he is very nice and professional. He told me that this is a fixed price for our job, which is very reasonable price. The job was done within 30 minutes. After job was done Charles did a thorough testing and also check basement to make sure there was no leaking.Charles also told me how to maintain the kitchen pipe to avoid back up. I had a problem with my toilet backing up, and I called Michigan Power Rodding. They came out the same day and cleared the issue. Or so we all thought. About 10 days later I had a similar issue, and it was determined that I needed to have my septic tanks cleaned out. When the septic tank people came, it was clear that the piping to the septic tank was still blocked. I called Michigan Power Rodding back, and they sent someone out the same day to fix the problem again. Steve made a point of approaching the problem from multiple directions and verified the success. Michigan Power Rodding lives up to their name and more! We had a clog... a non-sanity threatening clog, but an annoying one, nonetheless. We were fortunate in that if we waited long enough, there was plenty of pipe available. Unfortunately, if we filled it, we'd have to wait. After a few days of trying to clear it ourselves, it was time to call the pros. Around 8pm, I called another Well-Known National Chain and was told by a dispatcher someone would call me back. A half-hour later, I received a call, and the fellow on the other end really wasn't interested in coming out that night. He kept trying to convince me to wait until morning, when it would be cheaper by $50. I took it as a sign. I called Michigan Power Rodding. First: the person who answered the phone actually works there and can tell you when or if someone will come, and what it might cost. Second, and most important to me: they were open until 10pm, so I was still within non-emergency hours! I didn't have to wait until morning, and their pricing was already lower anyway. The fellow who showed up worked diligently and quickly, and explained what happened - he did have to go back to pick something up to continue his work given how deep the clog was - but otherwise he would have been done within the hour. They respect the cleanliness of your home, and clean up after themselves. They present how much it will cost before doing the work, and make recommendations as to what you might want to do later on. They called a few days later to follow up that we were happy with the work, and I set up an appointment to have our sewer pipe examined and foamed. We wanted to see if it was made of Orangeburg, and we wanted to make use of the foaming treatment to encourage the roots that had caused our original clog to find somewhere else to get their nutrients. The guy who came was affable and explained everything he'd be doing, and also that we'd probably want to make a decision about foaming the pipe based on what we saw. Don't believe those good reviews because I am a victim of believing them. Make the story short, it was five days ago my main drain got clogged. After $340 (for snaking through the main drain ONLY!!!), I was told the clog persisted and was recommended to call Jack Spack to clean my septic tank which was the cause of clogging. I didn't bite the bait because the septic tank was serviced 8 months ago! (I follow religiously the experts' recommendation to clean my septic tank once every 3 years). After a stress test by using as much water as possible at the same time for an hour, I proved the service man's recommendation was a lie - a tactic to rip more cash off me. I just want to share my story to prevent more innocent people from getting ripped off by this dishonest company. read more

He was on time, ready with a mask (thanks COVID-19) and booties, and was very professional. He looked at the job, gave me a quote, and got to work. The whole thing took two hours. Upon finishing, he checked everything and then did a really fabulous job of cleaning up the job site upstairs and in the basement. He also suggested we use an enzyme cleaner to maintain our pipes and avoid clogged drains in the future. One screw up can happen to anyone so I gave them a second chance. Worse than the first screw up. 1st visit was a call to check my sump pump. I had not heard it engage in days so I asked them to check it (Note: I cannot go up or down stairs.) They came out, checked, said they adjusted a few things and everything was fine. Two days later, we had a storm. I didn't hear the pump. I looked downstairs and saw water on the floor. I called MPR; they came back, were very apologetic, and replaced my sump pump. 2nd visit was a call to open a clogged drain in my bathtub. They came out, checked everything then said they'd snake the drain. 30 or so minutes later, the guy came up and said he'd broken a tee connector. He said he'd try to repair; he couldn't. He said he didn't have another, that I should call a plumber and that I should pay for his visit. I blew up, told him I'm not paying him and that he now owned the problem since he broke the pipe. I told him to go to ACE and buy what he needed and fix it. Lot's of phone calls, lots of time waiting. Eventually, he came back with a replacement tee. Drain was still clogged, however. More snaking; still no joy. He called for another tech, Eventually, they discovered that the internal plug in the drain had jammed. They removed it and the tub emptied. 5 1/2 hours. I called several plumbing companies---either no one would call me back or they would tell me they don't do that type of work and would refer to to someone else (who would do the same). We came home from vacation to a clogged drain in our bathtub and I was able to get an appointment with Michigan Power Rodding the next evening (they actually offered to come out that night between 9 and midnight that day if we wanted, but it wasn't that much of an emergency). The tech was on time, quoted us a price up front, did the work quickly but thoroughly, was incredibly friendly and professional, and, maybe best of all, unlike other chain drain cleaning outfits we've used in the past didn't give us dire warning about our old pipes and how they should all be replaced immediately (which of course they could do "on the side" for us). The price was also at least $50 less than what I've paid for similar, but less professional and timely, service. Project: Bathtub drain clogged. Estimates obtained: Four, Michigan Power Rodding estimate ended up in the middle. Payment accepted: Everything Calling to make the appointment was super easy and I was given a window of time in which to expect the guys (btwn 12-3). Daniel and Steven arrived within the window, at 12:45. Both guys were courteous, dressed neatly, and put booties on their feet upon entering my home. Before starting the job, they inspected the existing plumbing to ensure it was suitable to run their tools down the line. After a quick trip to the crawl space, they determined that everything was good to go. Daniel provided the scope of work and gave me their "upfront pricing". Given I had contacted three other plumbers, I knew the price was reasonable and approved the amount. After the drain was clear the guys ran water for a few minutes and went to the crawl space to check for leaks...no leaks.The job took maybe 25 minutes total. I am sure clearing 15ft of pipe made a mess, but there was no evidence of that when they left. In fact, the tub appeared cleaner then it was when they got there. The tub is draining like a champ, with zero issues. Overall, the guys were super nice, and they did an outstanding job for a reasonable price. We had a sewer back up in our furnace room and my son called a nationally known company to clear the pipes. After they were done, they walked out and left me with a nasty mess on our floor.
