When I decided to go to University down the street, the part that made it better was Mickey's was only a few blocks away. Some may say I decided to go to that school because of Mickey's. I've tried many things on the menu and I legit I have not had a bad experience here. My favorite is a Lake Michigan. I wish nothing but the best to this place & I can not wait to go back. I know this is a chain but this is hands down the best location in all the locations I've visited. I know the star of the show should be the gyro meat and it certainly is on point. But what's even more interesting is that the pita is so fresh!! You'd be surprised by how fresh the pita is because it's as if they keep on churning it out of the oven. And of course, the freshness of the cucumber yogurt cuts into it all. Can't really go wrong with Mickeys. Been going here since I was a kid and I've always loved ordering water so the guy can say "one Lake Michigan." Food is always hot and made ready to order. The service was a tad bit off-putting for me, but it would probably be fine for everyone else... so I won't make it a negative. I usually enjoy a place with a distinct identity, but sometimes it's a matter of timing-- I felt a bit attacked (I was slow ordering because I don't have glasses on or contacts in right now :/ ) I kinda thought "this guy saw the Billygoat Tavern SNL sketch tooooo many times" as I listened to him, I also thought "I'd usually enjoy this...." This place is hit or miss. The Mickey burger is pretty good. I tried the Cream of Chicken and rice soup today and rib dinner. The soup was bland and to salty. The ribs I thought for sure would be great. They were fall off the bone, but way too salty. I had to drink a lot of water after the meal. The service is kind of straightforward, and you better know what you want when you go to the counter. I will go back again to try their famous gyro. read more

Great Gyros in Oak Park. Sure it's a bit of a drive from where I live in Forest Glen but it's worth the effort. My brother & his wife are visiting from Issaquah WA. As former Chicagoans they had to get their fix on a number of food items not available in udder parts of da country. Thangs like Portillo's Beef, Lou Malnatis Pizzer & Gyros. They had a hankerin for a gyro. My sister found 10 different places and she narrowed it down to Mickeys. Why Mickeys? Because my brudder & sister in law were staying out dere wit anudder buddy that came to town. Not really knowing what to expect we met there. Both my sister & I arrived late. By the time we got there my brudder & wife had already ordered for demselves and us gyros & fries. The gyros are excellent great flavor,w/fine sliced onions, julienne cut cucumber w/taziki sauce & tomatoes. A generous portion of gyro meat, great blend of Cucumbers and taziki sauce. While I loved the gyros Micki's they have a huge menu selection including a slab of ribs for $18. I will definitely be back again to try some of their other items. I dropped by on the day of the Betty White centennial because I heard they were doing a Betty White special. My hot dog, fries, and drink were perfection! I've been to the Chicagoland area many times but never tried a "polish". There were a few places my husband, who is a native, recommended and this one was nearby in his old neighborhood. It's located across the street from a McDonald's and was formerly a Burger King . The owners are two brothers, one of whom was there while we dined in and stopped by our table to make sure we were good. The restaurant has a diner style interior and burger-stand type counter area for ordering. The service was fairly fast if not the friendliest. The menu was extensive and it was hard to stick to my original plan. Besides their namesakes and the items we ordered they have salads, wings, sandwiches, chicken, shrimp and more. I ordered the polish sausage meal (deep fried) -$7.29. My group got the two hotdog special (Chicago style) - $8.29; fish fillet sandwich meal - $6.99; big Mickey meal (cheeseburger and fries) - $6.73 and small vanilla shake -$2.19. We all enjoyed our food, traditional greasy diner cuisine. And my hubby said the milkshake was great which is high praise coming from him. read more

Always a good pick! The interior is very quaint and much like a hole in the wall, but to me, then you know it is authentic! There are so many items on the menu to choose from. I usually get a Chicago style hotdog or a Gyro if I want to change things up. The meal prep is very fast. The food is delicious. And the portions are really big. I've been going to Mickey's since the early 90's! The big Mickey is my favorite next to the gyro! Their gyro sauce is top tier! The bits of cucumber make it special! I believe this location is family owned. The service is fast and everyone is so nice. I'm always greeted and usually end up engaging in small talk with the staff. Mickey's comes highly recommended for ribs in the area, and they live up to it! These are the kind of slathered in sauce ribs I grew up in GA with. The 1/2 slab dinner comes with bread, coleslaw, and either a baked potato or fries. It's a great deal! I also got a chili cheese dog, which was a bit amorphous but standard, nothing special. That and the unseasoned okra batter lost one star. The staff is polite, and the restaurant is old school but clean. The make a lot of different things that don't seem to go together (gyros, bbq, taco salads, burgers, hot dogs, pizza puffs), but people were ordering all of it so I assume it's tasty. I ordered a large rib tip dinner for $21.00, which was a waste of hard earned money. I received 6 pieces of rib tips, a piece of soggy garlic bread and fries, I also ordered what was suppose to be a pineapple shake, which was nothing more than a cup of soft serve ice cream with a couple of bits of pineapple, the shake was so thick that I couldn't use the straw, I tasted a couple of spoonfuls and realized that this was a waste of money also. They no longer serve the tasty food that they served in the past and someone should tell them that customer service goes a long way, it's nonexistent at Mickey's Gyros & Ribs. The full racks are huge and you get full serving in of coleslaw and fries and garlic bread all for around 16 bucks and some change. The rib tips which are my favorite are grilled not fried like some many places. Meaty, saucy sweet and flavorful. Their burgers are also extra large with the double cheeseburger only 5 bucks and change. It's a staple of Oak Park and a true Chicago burger joint run by the same Greek family for decades. Frequent visitor to the Chicago area. I pass this place often, and finally decided to order one day as from the outside it reminds me of local spots like this I visited as a kid. Note: This is Mickey's Gyros and Ribs in Oak Park, but there's also a Mickey's Gyros in Oak Forrest that has 95% the same menu--but that 5% makes a difference so don't get confused :) My first red flag is when I called in for pickup--I ordered Mickey's burger (lettuce, tomato, onions, etc) with cheese and bacon. I was then told it sounded like I wanted a bacon cheeseburger. I said yes, but with toppings. He said ok. I was asked if I wanted a double patty, and I said n because it was for someone who can't hold a large burger... CHECK YOUR ORDER BEFORE LEAVING But when I arrived to pick up my order, they had given me two large pieces of bread, a literal paper thin piece of meat, cheese and bacon, without any other toppings. It looked more like a grilled cheese than a burger. I restated that I wanted a big Mickey with cheese and bacon, and the cashier/manager(?) proceeded to go back and forth with me about listing everything single I wanted on the sandwich as if we was going to ring everything up a la carte. I kept reiterating my simple request--a big Mickey with bacon and cheese, this time with a double patty (which would still only be half of let's say a Burger King regular patty) but that seemed to confuse him so we discussed this burger for 3-5 minutes until I was frustrated. They gave me someone else's drink order, and when they did get it right my chocolate banana shake tasted like all fake banana syrup with a swirl of unsweetened chocolate ice cream. The fries were cold and hard. The saving graces where the tender riblet sandwich (great sauce), and the garlic bread and coleslaw that came with the shrimp plate I also ordered but we weren't impressed with.
