I was called by the office to schedule my annual appointment, and told that this office does not accept care source because it's medicaid. It is not Medicaid, it is paid out of my pocket insurance! Unfortunately, Stacy at the office is unaware that not everyone who has Care Source is on Medicaid. Wouldn't someone who bills insurance companies know that? I was highly offended that Stacy was extremely rude to me because she thought I was on Medicaid!! Like I was somehow less now that I was when I had Blue Cross Blue Shield! Yup, wait times can be extensive. Bring a book... oh, wait. Dr. Allen is caring and congenial and takes whatever time is needed to devote to your eyes and your concerns. That can translate to late appointments and must drive his staff nuts. The way around it, for the patient, is to schedule within the first few in the morning or after lunch. Just know that while he's giving you the attention you need and deserve, somebody else is waiting like you did but will also get needed attention. His staff also works in emergency issues. Sure is nice to see the doc you know and trust rather than call the office in a panic and callously be shunted off to an emergency room or urgent care.

I found TLC on Yelp and with its high rating, great reviews, and the fact that it is located not too far from home, I decided to make an appointment. Everyone here is really friendly. They very clearly outlined the process, the pros, cons, worse outcomes, best outcomes, etc. After reading several pages outlining all the horrible things that could go wrong, I almost changed my mind... but knowing other people that have done it and the success they've seen, I was set on it. My first appointment was just to have my eyes examined, sign all the paperwork, and learn everything I needed to know in order to be fully prepared. My next visit was for the procedure. This day was rough for me personally. I wasn't nervous to have it done (heck, I can do anything for 30 seconds) but after waiting over three hours in the small waiting room I almost lost my mind. When appointments are required and you know how many people are scheduled to come in that day, you roughly know how long things are going to take. Instead of trying to pack in as many patients as you possibly could in one day, maybe focus on your patients overall experience. I wouldn't have cared had they called me and shared that they overbooked and needed to change my appointment. That would have taken my experience from barely a three star, maybe even to five. A few days after the procedure I went back in for a check up that was literally less than five minutes from check in to check out. Overall, I'm glad that I did it. The day of did suck, mainly because of the waiting for so long, but I can see and for that, I am super happy.

My husband started seeing Dr. Patel in 2021, when my husband developed both dry and wet macular…read moredegeneration in both eyes. During the two and a half years that my husband received treatments from Dr. Patel we were pleased with his treatments and liked him personally. The wait was sometimes long, but we were there for treatment so put up with it. In the spring of 2024 things changed and appointments started to be cancelled with very little notice. We were on the way there when the first one happened. The explanation was that they didn't have the medication for the injection and to reschedule. This happened a second time and put my husband a month behind on his scheduled injection. My inside source told me that the practice was having trouble paying for the meds they used and insurance payments were not enough to cover the cost. And the pharmacy that supplied the drugs wouldn't do so until the practice paid their bills, which were in the thousands. There seemed to be some scheme to get the patients to pay for the injection medication, which was the new drug Vabysmo and have it shipped to the doctors office. Then the patient was to try to get the money back from the insurance company. Weeks went by and no one would talk to us about what was going on or tell us what to do. Many calls to the Circleville office and promises made and NOT kept, that they would get back to us. But they never did. We made one last appointment to try to talk to the doctor about what we should do. He, Dr.Patel, left the room and sent a lady in to tell us the upcoming visit for an injection was cancelled and did not tell us to make another. So we left and waited and waited and waited some more to be contacted. My husband is now two months behind schedule for his eye injections. luckily we had made a previous appointment with another doctor connected to the Ohio State University Hospital, so went there in July. We had made this appoint a few months earlier when it became apparent no one was going to contact us from Eye Specialists, Inc. We will never know the true or complete story of this fiasco and the, what we feel, was the complete abandonment of a patient by this doctor. My husband and I were very lucky as we had some inside information about what was going on and advised us to get out of the train wreck that this practice was headed for. I would not advise anyone to go to this fiasco of a medical practice. I did write a short letter to Dr. Patel advising him that my husband would not be his patient anymore, but I doubt he ever saw it as it was likely discarded by the office staff. The offices became dirtier and dirtier each time my husband went there. The staff in general were not top notch and obviously afraid of losing there jobs if they gave out any information about the new insurance scheme. In retrospect, I really don't think they had any information. We liked Dr. Patel, but in the end, Eye Specialists really let us down!! We would encourage people to think twice and then think twice again about ever using Eye Specialists, Inc.
