Very nice people ....but nice doesn't get the job done. had no heat .....of course needed new furnace. 10,732 dollars later and many hours. ....heat doesn't turn off. We had an issue with water coming out of the ground near our air conditioner. One company told us they had to dig up the entire slab of our house and would take 3 months. Guaranteed came in, put in a pump, rerouted the water..,all in one day. Great company and caring workers. read more

RUN! Do not hire this company! I had to pay for a service call that was directly related to the mistake that their technician made. My AC unit stopped working because the tech allowed significant Freon to escape which then in turn caused my unit to stop functioning. The next tech who came explained that the only problem with my unit was that it did not have enough Freon. The office did not expect me to pay for the Freon but insisted I pay for the service call. My argument is that I wouldn't have needed a service call if the original technician had not let the Freon escape. Despite numerous calls, no one was willing to discuss this with me. Repeated calls and messages left for the owner Bob and the office manager went unreturned. This is not the customer service one would expect from an established business. Ignoring the customer will not end well. read more

Company was hired to install a generator. The work they did was hazardous with gas lines dangling in the air not anchored down. They were supposed to put the line in the ground and did one of the worst jobs you could ever imagine. One of the worst experiences I have ever had. The salesperson is a snake and misled my wife and the work is total amateur. They even started the job without permits filed which is illegal. Different contractors also looked at their work and mentioned they even used the wrong pipes which was likely to save a buck. Stay far away. read more

Came to my friends house for free estimate. After estimate said they could not help and handed her a bill. Demanded payment and said they would not cash check. Guess the free estimate should have been the red flag. Cashed her check and now she is out that money and still have the problem. Shady business practice. read more

I may have been a bit too severe in my review of them earlier. In retrospect, it looks like they did an excellent job on the installation of my furnace and my gas water heater, back then, as, aside from a problem with a faulty furnace gas valve, I haven't had any other issues with either my furnace or my gas water heater, these past 9 years. This is the reason I'm upgrading my review of them from 1 to 3 stars. Looking back, one thing I noticed, when the Mid-State service tech came to try to fix my furnace, was that, after I told him the symptoms I was experiencing, the first thing he did was press down on a bunch of wires near the gas valve. At which point, the problem didn't manifest itself, so he was unable to resolve the issue. Eventually, another service tech, from another company, listening to the symptoms I described, did a few checks and was able to fix the issue by wrapping a plastic zip tie around the gas valve, in such a way as to keep the two input wires going into the gas valve, from coming loose. I asked that tech how long that fix would hold and he said, "permanently". And it's worked fine ever since. Basically the gas valve was defective, in the sense that the the two input wire connections were loose. And the only other way to fix this issue would have been to replace the entire gas valve. And because the two input wires going into the gas control valve were a bit loose, I would experience intermittent failures that were not always reproducible. So when the Mid-State tech had initially pressed down on a bunch of wires near the gas valve, he actually caused it start working again, but only temporarily, since the loose wires eventually came loose again. One lesson I drew from this is that if the service tech starts randomly pressing down wires, be a bit skeptical about their level of skill and understanding of HVAC systems, and maybe seriously consider going with a different company! read more

0 Stars! Rarely return phone calls especially when they know there is a problem with their installation. Workers took the house key, left ceiling damaged and a mess in the house. System has stopped working several times. The first time within 2 weeks of install; another time for water build up and wires exposed to water. Recently, learned the return was never sealed and now the AC system is full of mold. The owner - Robert Bifani - reviews his own company with 5 stars. We (me and a number of my neighbors) call them, "Mistake". They're terrible! I had an A/C unit that was out of warranty by 2 weeks, and they wouldn't honor it. I know (for a fact) that service companies can work with manufacturers to honor warranties which have recently expired to provide "good will". Not Mid State. Thank you so much, Mid State, for everything that you have done for me! A brand new furnace installed by an independent contractor lost power after a major snow storm in NJ. At first the serviceman(Dan) thought it was the transformer, and it would have been a total of $500 for the job(which I would have gladly paid), but in the end it was easy as two wires that somehow came disconnected, and Dan saved me $300 and the total cost was little more than the service charge. In short, it was a bad couple of days, and Mid State came to the rescue, and I give thanks and praise! read more

I would never recommend this company to anyone whom needs Heating and Air-conditioning service or replacement. In June of 2020 MidState replaced our A/C units with new Trane units (one upstairs/one downstairs). The A/C's ran well from June 2020 to September 2020 since this is not our primary residence. In June of 2021 we turned on the units and noticed the upstairs unit was not cooling. We had a technician come out three times and after each service call we noticed that the upstairs unit was not cooling our bedrooms. Since August 30th, 2020 I have reached out at least 6-8 times asking a customer service rep by the name of Terry to ask Bob the owner to call me so that a technician can come out and perform a diagnostic assessment as to what is wrong with the unit. Bob the owner is unprofessional and still has not returned my calls. At this point I am considering filing legal action against MidState, whatever you do STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. read more

I've tried at least five other HVAC companies in the Monmouth/Ocean area, and for one reason or another, I kept searching for one that provided quality and reliable service. I found Mid-State about 10 years ago, and I've never had reason to look elsewhere. I've found them professional and responsive. They've replaced my A/C and boiler, and the price was right. We had one hiccup on the boiler installation, and they were quick to make it right. The technicians that come to the house are polite, professional, and provide quality service. read more

Inexperienced technician came to my home to install a water pump and left an interior tube unattached resulting in flooding. After another technician came back to fix the problem, I noticed more water that same night. After a third visit, the technician solely turned a valve on my humidifier and the company charged me an additional $216 after paying $325 the first time. There was never a water issue until midstate came into my home. They tried blaming me for the valve being on too much but I never touched it. They refused to take responsibility saying their first technician didn't do anything to it even though he clearly had no clue what he was doing. Mid-State was the absolute worst contractor I have ever hired. They were all too eager to cash my check from the NJ energy saver program. Mid-state installed a heating system, on demand hot water heater and "sealed" my crawl space. Total hack job. Once the job was allegedly "complete" we had several issues and was actually first name basis with NJ Natural Gas emergency service. We had to call them numerous times for gas leaking from our pipes due to mid-state's improper installation. The vapor barrier they installed was toxic and emitted noxious fumes. I just paid $2,300 to rectify all of their mistakes. Stay away! read more

I've been pleased to have Mid-State work in my home each time I needed HVAC work since 2010. Every person I've met from Mid-State has been considerate and knowledgeable. The owner, Brian, is a gentleman and makes certain his customers are satisfied. Mid-state replaced both HVAC systems at my house. I hired them in 2010 and again in 2012. In 2016 I had them do another job - to replace a very old copper line set that had a slow leak. All three jobs were done well with fine workmanship. Every concern or question I raised was handled sensibly. This company stands behind their work. My two systems are now reliable and I'm pleased with the work. read more

"Mistake" is an understatement! My experience with this company is beyond shockingly horrible. They came to "fixed" my heater in early November. The only reason I hired them was because the winter was coming and I didn't want to leave the house with no heat, so I didn't look around for a second opinion. Although the price for an ignition module at $870.00 appeared high, but people on the phone sounded really pleasant so I went ahead with it. Only 2 months later on a Sunday in middle of the winter, I had no heat again, soI called Mid State. The same guy who "fixed" my ignition module came out, 2 hours later he told me that either I would need to overhaul my entire heating system or I needed a over $2000.00 repair job in addition to the $1100.00 I had spent on the ignition module plus his service call which was $200.00. The I called our regular plumber (I was not aware that he also does heating until my neigbor told me so when I was crying on the phone), forgetting telling him the ignition module was recently replaced. 1/2 hour later, he called me and told me "all fixed", stating it was ignition module problem and he had just replaced it and everything was working fine. I was grateful, but in my head I was thingking of another bill of $1100.00 like Mid State had charged me for the replacement of the ignition module. Just received the bill from my plumber this weekend, it was a total of $250.00, and the price for the brand new ignition module was $129.00. I almost fell off the chair! How could that be?! I knew I was ripped off by Mid State, but never imagined that it could be by this much!!! read more

This company started out great but turned out to be awful. The people in the office are nice on the phone, but they don't talk to each other. They don't keep track of customer calls and issues. They don't track their technicians and what was done / not done. They charged me over $3,000 to repair a Trane split system in 2018 - they did a good job. Then when issues arose, the first time, they fixed it with a service call. The second time, the tech could not fix it. When I called to get them to explain and come back, they never responded. I made at least 8 phone calls and spoke to 4 different people, including the owner three times. They promised to get to the bottom of it and now in March, after chasing them for 6 months to get my AC fixed, they are telling me the reason they are not responding is that there is an open invoice from the service call they never completed in September with no explanation of why they couldn't fix it and no plan to resolve. read more

Here are the comparisons of price AND quality of work: Mid-State: Fix motor: $663; Igniter: $263; "Diagnostic": $105 (IF allowed to use the coupon) - by just looking from outside of the motor container, the Mid-State person told me the motor was specially made! The Company I used: Fix motor: $450; Igniter: $50; Diagnostic: $0 - They did a lot more detailed diagnostic, with Computer, to make sure every component is in good condition, a much better quality of work. Also the motor is regular motor for this furnace, nothing special. Yes, we went through the possibility of replacing the unit. However it is in much different way, the way all customers should be treated. By the way, the furnace could be made any year. But it was installed by the end of 1996, as I told Mid-stat person a few times. Again most importantly, a good company should check the condition of the furnace which is in very good condition (yes, with computer print out to prove it). --------------------------------------------------------------------- Response to Mid-State Heating & Cooling's comment (2/20/2014) I have to response to Mid-State Heating & Cooling's comment, as they said I was "not factual". Now this is as factual as it gets: 1. I didn't want to make Mid-State look too bad, hence I didn't go to details. Now if you talk about "factual", here's one fact: To fix the igniter, Mid-state quoted me the price: $279 and that's on top of the cost of "diagnostic". The contractor I hired: $50, no extra charge of diagnostic. 2. I don't want go into how much Mid-State gauged the price for fixing the motor, but just what he said to justify his price, "Your motor is specially made". Specially made?! (That did fool me a little). The contractor I hired didn't say anything about "specially made" but just fixed it with honest price. 3. You say "the furnace is 20 years old"? It is 17 years old, but most importantly it is in good condition due to relatively limited usages. The contractor I hired checked the furnace inside and out, tested its components, all in very good conditions and clean. His conclusion: it can run at least another five years. I will certainly go to him when I need to replace it. Unlike Mid-State, he not only did a good job fixing the motor and igniter, but also gained my trust. There are other facts, but how about focusing on the fact that you have an unhappy customer instead of trying to portrait your customer is "not factual". I am not going to "wrestling" with any new comment you are going to put here. Talk is cheap. The fact is you have an unhappy customer and your comment made me more convinced I made right choice. This company does not even deserve one star. They installed a new air conditioner. After installment, there was a leak coming from the coils. The technician said its normal. It failed township inspection!!! I never had an appliance that failed inspection!!! Many things need to be re-done and now, the company is giving me the run around with when the air conditioner can be fixed. Receptionists say " it will be fixed in the morning, or the afternoon." What kind of appointment is that? Plus, when the company was called about the leak, a technician came to the house to LOOK at it, and the company had the nerves to charge almost $150 for the visit. The Receptionist did not tell me about the charge before the visit and I shouldn't be charged for something that was just installed a few days prior!!!! With regards the application for loan... Yes she sent me an application form to take loan but not the estimate for the project. ( Btw,I already had it from other contractors too) But i never received the estimate from your end. What purpose is a loan application without knowing what your cost is??? Had to replace a broken furnace and decided to get a new furnace and AC unit. Chose Mid-State because it was the cheapest option. They came in a couple of months ago to replace it them and when they were done the techs told me that everything went well, that my AC was going to start cooling once the hot air and humidity left the house. They also told me that the permits to inspect my house would come within a week or two. The permits took way longer than two weeks to arrive and that day the temperature in my house never went below 80 degrees. My AC does cool, but it is on all day and sometimes (if it's really hot) it only cools down to between 76 and 78 degrees. I didn't put much thought into this because I live in an old trailer. After the permits came in, I scheduled the inspection just to have my home fail the plumbing inspection. The techs forgot to extend the drain of the condenser from under crawlspace to outdoors. Called them multiple times to have them come in to have them come in and fix it, multiple times they said they would give me a call back and they never called me back. It wasn't until I offered to take time off work that they finally came in. Tech guy (different one from installation day) goes under the crawlspace to fix what the fail inspection sticker said, and when I mention that my system isn't cooling properly he tells me that it's thermostat (the one thing they didn't replace). I go and schedule another inspection and swap the thermostat multiple times to no avail. The inspector comes in again and tells me that I have a major air leak under the house, and that it is coming out of the main connection between the blower and the air ducts. He also tells me that this fails the inspection because it is a major escape on a connection that the HVAC contractor is responsible for. So I call Mid-State multiple times again, having to miss work again just to have their guys never show up and when the tech guy (one of the ones that installed the equipment initially) finally comes in again and goes under the crawlspace and tells me he found the leak but he tried to taping it shut but won't work and that we will need parts that he doesn't have and so he needs to let his manager know. So he leaves, a day or two later I get an email with a proposal: $350 to fix an air leak that they thought wasn't going to happen by taping the blower duct to the air ducts because apparently "it is an existing problem that was there prior the installation". I didn't have any air leaks, though, and they gave me the excuse that is because "the new equipment ducting doesn't match your house's ducting". That is not an existing problem. One way or another, even if the tech guys noticed the leak or not, it is a problem that they created and that they are responsible for. So, basically, the guys came in, taped the blower to the air ducts (improper installation), and they are charging me to fix it? My electric bill is DOUBLE than it EVER has been (I have the bills to prove it), my AC is still on the whole day, they keep failing to meet inspection requirements, and now they charging me to fix all the problems THEY caused for all this time. I wouldn't use this company if they were free. 2 years ago I had them install an AC unit and a navien all-in-one heat and hot water unit. From day one I had trouble with the hot water and their answer to me was that my well wasn't getting the proper amount of water to the unit--in other words it was a well issue. The navien system finally gave out 2 days ago and I called Navien directly looking for an authorized tech in the area and they gave me some but interesting mid-state wasn't one of them. Well tech came and the problem he diagnosed was that the system wasn't installed properly which prevented the proper amount of water to reach the unit. Oh, and last summer the AC they installed caused a leak as it was not properly piped to allow the condensate to leave the house. I originally called Midstate to trouble shoot and their tech told me it was from rodents building a nest in the water pan that blocked the pipe. A month later when the problem returned I called a different company and they came in a found that the piping was such that it wouldn't allow the water to flow properly backfilling the pan and eventually overflowing causing flooding. Between the AC problem and the Navien problem it cost me almost a $1000 to fix issues that should have never been an issue to begin with. DON'T USE THESE PEOPLE. read more

Horrible experience! Do not use them! They are completely unproffesional and will not return your calls once they get paid, which means they do not hold up their warranty. and a complete furnance and a/c done. Pictures to prove the sloppy work that was suppossedly done by drug users that were immediately fired after my job. Nice excuse from the owner. He is not in touch with his business. A few facts to clarify the story. I am not saying the workers were drug users nor do I believe they were, however this was the excuse that the owner gave (this is fact). Technology is amazing! I have called the office on AT LEAST 5 occasions since Sept. to try and get reimbursed for the charge the water company sent me to turn off the water from the valves that Mid State had broken and replaced. Have not recieved a single call back. Bob the owner did come out to my home to look at the job and said that he woudl extend the warranty by two years which has also not been done. I will be happy to pull all of the phone records with the calls in to the company. I have also told Rhonda on at least 3 occasions that a plumbing valve that was installed by Midstate is leaking and needs to be fixed but have not recieved a call back in over a month despite follow-up calls. I guess they do not care. Lets pull all the phone records from my lines and mid-state lines and see who is calling who! read more

Unbelievable! I had mid state install a new heat an A/C furnace in my house in 2010! I've had nothing but problems with them since! In July of 2010 they installed it but they failed to hook up the heating to the thermostat! So obviously I didn't notice it till it got cold out! Then a water pump went on it and they charged me 700 dollars to install a 50 dollar pump! Then last year July 4th the freon leaks out and after 2 days of being on there "list" they finally come and fix the leak and refill the freon! So a year later the freon has leaked out again! And they put me back on there list!! With no time when there going to get to me! You'd think that they'd want to put me as a priority seeing as my A/C has crapped out on my twice in 4 years!! Guy tells me he doesn't know when he can get to me after waiting all day today! I canceled the service call and called another company who gave me a time tomorrow afternoon!! Hopefully they can fix Midstates screw up!!! read more

1 star is too good for the experience I had with this firm! My faulty AC unit, they told me could not be fixed and had to be replaced at a cost of $4500. A lot of money, so I got a second opinion. Another company diagnosed a faulty part which they replaced at a cost of $35. At best the engineer misdiagnosed the issue and doesn't know what he is doing or at worst they were trying to get $4500 out of the situation - I left repeated msgs and emails to highlight this issue and get my call out charge refunded. Noone has responded. Unless you want to pay for more than you need avoid this firm, I would not trust them! read more

I will never use this company again. Their customer service is not reliable and we have had issues when the technicians have come to the house for maintenance. Unfortunately we used them for one AC (2014) and both furnaces (2014 and 2017). They installed the wrong furnace (a cheaper one-single stage vs the two stage that we ordered) in attic (2017). When I called to explain, the customer service rep told me it was the correct unit. They finally agreed/replaced but it took an effort on our part. In 2017, we called them for AC maintenance per our maintenance contract. The technician told me our hot water heater expansion tank was empty, very dangerous, and he could replace for $295 that day. Technician claimed he just happen to bang on tank and could hear it was empty! We called the company that installed, there was no issue and questioned why Mid-State was even looking at the hot water heater. Last week our AC stopped working. They said issue was very rare, would have to bypass, and order part (which was still under warranty) but we would be liable if bypass didn't work. We called Trane in an attempt to be reimbursed for charges, and they said if they bypassed your unit your warranty could be voided and said Trane should have been contacted. read more

Warning!!! Do not use this company for your heating & cooling needs! They are very unreliable! They may take your call 24/7, but they don't respond 24/7 or at all if a better opportunity comes along! Appointments are not honored even if they confirm the appointment in the morning! They will not even have the courtesy to inform you that they are not coming!
