Bad experience here. I visited this place after disappointment with another car shop because this location have a good rating from customers. I was looking for a new shop, but don't know if I will go back. i went to have a rattling sound issue addressed. I was told my engine needed to be mounted because something was hitting it. I scheduled to come another day for the service. Was charged over $900 for the service when I returned, just to leave and still experience the same issue. I had to come back moments later to have it addressed. It was suggested that the tech drove with me to detect the issue. He figured it out in under a minute. The new service cost under $300. There was no apology for the misdiagnosis, no refund, and no discount. I paid almost $1000 that wasn't required. I'm so disappointed in the lack of effort of many techs to identify concerns. I don't blame the tech who worked on my car as he might not have been the person who initially diagnosed the issue, and was likely following what was already in place. But someone dropped the ball in the beginning, and I'm paying for it. I notice no difference in my car's performance following that engine mount. I've transitioned to a mobile tech who I trust. read more

First, I called ahead of time because I had been in a panic mode, having gone to Advance Auto parts just shortly before and given such outrageous prices of how to handle my car problems. Immediately, after talking to Zac, he was very calm and reassuring that I would get my problem resolved. He spoke of meeting his customers needs and I knew automatically that he's a leader and had great customer service. He's exceptional at what he does. Terrible Experience - Lost $$ and My Emergency Brake I brought my 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche to Midas for four new tires, an oil change, and emergency brake adjustment. What should have been routine maintenance turned into a $3,500 nightmare that left me with an unsafe vehicle. Immediately after picking up my truck, I noticed a squeaking noise coming from the front when accelerating from stops. After two-hour highway drives, the squeaking became much louder. The noise clearly appeared after Midas worked on my vehicle and was heat-related - loud when warm, subtle when cool. Despite explaining that the problem started immediately after their work, Midas claimed the issue was my front wheel bearings - something they never mentioned during their initial inspection. I paid $1,200 for new bearings. The squeaking continued unchanged. When I complained about paying $1,200 for unnecessary bearings, they dismissively said I "would have needed them eventually anyway." After multiple visits and a 100-mile highway drive to ensure they could hear the problem, two mechanics still couldn't identify the source. They kept my truck on the lift for three hours and then suggested the problem "might" be the emergency brake shoes they had initially adjusted (although the sound seemed to be coming from the front, not rear of the truck where the emergency brake is). Instead of adjusting the emergency brake back to its original position as I asked them, they completely removed the brake shoes WITHOUT MY AUTHORIZATION. When I arrived to pick up my truck, they handed me my brake shoes in a box and the keys, essentially sending me out with an unsafe vehicle. Bottom Line: - Spent $3,500 ($900 was for the tires) - Paid $1,200 for unnecessary wheel bearings that didn't fix anything - Squeaking noise they created is likely still there - Now have NO emergency brake - Vehicle potentially unsafe to drive Midas created a problem, charged me for incorrect diagnoses, then removed the emergency brake without permission. Instead of admitting they couldn't fix their mistake, they sent me away with an unsafe vehicle. This is inexcusable. I'm now stuck figuring out if it's even safe to drive my truck and how to get my emergency brake properly repaired elsewhere. Avoid this location at all costs. read more

Had my brakes and rotors done 14 months ago by this Midas location. They started to squeak terribly after 60 days. I went back into the shop to have them look at the brakes within 90 days, they said nothing was wrong. I've been suffering since then. The old ones never squeaked like this. Wish I had never gone here. I went to another repair shop to look at these brakes and rotors for a 2nd opinion and was told they are the cheapest you can put on and not appropriate for my car. read more

MIDAS 9438 Baltimore-National Pike Ellicott City, MD 21042 I regularly take our family's vehicles to the MIDAS Shop in Ellicott City (MD) for a needed oil/filter change. I do so, because each time I find the need to make an appointment, I'm appreciative and impressed with the professionalism and welcoming demeanor of the management and employees. A shout out to store manager "Dana," as well as "Scott," who took my initial call, scheduled the work, and processed payment. Both are welcoming, courteous, and friendly to their customers, but then so are the remaining employees with whom I've interacted while one of our vehicles was being serviced. In a recent visit, I no sooner left our Lexus SC430 off at the shop, walked to our home nearby, when I received a call from the store manager, saying the vehicle was ready. I find the staff to be honest and dependable. The level of their work is always one of quality, and the work performed is done in a timely manner. Given the seemingly poor performance of many companies today, it is a unique pleasure to do business with an auto service company that looks out for your vehicle and your best interest, a company that, in my view, has been unfailingly reliable, prompt, and fair. These are great people, and I highly recommend Ellicott City MIDAS to anyone looking for excellent service, fairness, and efficiency. read more

Have gone to Midas 3 years now and I need to share my experience so people are aware. First year, oil change/ tire rotation, I waited, I could see my car being worked on, when I told the manager the tires were not rotated, it was a he said, she said and a "we always rotate the tires". Second year, different mechanic, I marked my tires, waited, and this time told the manager I had marked my tires and they definitely were not rotated. He had the mechanic rotate them and gave me a free oil change. Third year, same mechanic as second year, waited, when told my car was finished and before my car was pulled out I asked manager to check tires as they were marked. Manager returned advising me mechanic was rotating them now as they were not rotated. I knew the mechanic was angry but I did not realize how much. When I drove on to Rt, 40 I noticed my climate control was changed from Fahrenheit to Celsius. This has to be done manually by going into Settings. Also, the quarters I keep in the middle console were replaced with pennies. An immature act with the climate control and theft as far as the coins. A mechanic, angry because a customer called him out on not doing his job, a very poor representation for Midas. If this has happened to me for three years and I was WAITING, is rotation also not done on cars that are left there? My suggestion, mark your tires and decide if you've received the full service you paid for! read more

A pro service station ran by a manager and staff who take pride in their work and their customer service. I needed to get my new muffler installed on my jeep so I called Midas in Ellicott City and the front desk girl Lizzie said they had a service bay open and to come by. The manager and staff quickly got on the project and had me out of their in less than an hour. While waiting for my jeep the manager and Lizzie were giving me updates when they should be done installing the muffler and were very personable talking current events and just regular conversation which was a nice way to kill the time. They had me out of their in less than an hour and I was able to get back to my job site with the greatest of ease. A highly recommended place for your auto service needs. Had my car serviced at Midas for some noise when accelerating or decelerating. They replaced the muffler but it turned out it was not the problem. Scott, the owner of the shop, road tested the car again and re-diagnosed as a wheel bearing issue on the front passenger side. I asked for half price for changing the wheel bearing for fairness. Scott accepted the request. I appreciate his willingness to acknowledge the initial misdiagnosis. Changing the wheel bearing solved the noise problem and accidently also solved the whistling sound issue that has long plagued my car (though that was not the reason why I came to the store). I really appreciate Scott's honesty and the flexibility and willingness to accommodate customer's request. I highly recommend Midas for any mechanical problem at your car. read more

I had an excellent experience with Midas. Most of the service center in nearby ares are closed on weekends but Midas open till 5 PM on Saturday. I called for Oil change,tire rotation and alignment. Midas was able to see me immediately. They did visual checks of belts,fluids and many other things. Left rear tire's TPMS system was broken after flat tire repair from some other place few months back, but Terry reset it without any extra cost. There is weird smell coming from AC vent. Had my muffler replaced at the Midas in Ellicott City this past Monday. They were able to get me in immediately, looked at and diagnose the problem within about 20 minutes. Gave me a very reasonable price (the dealership was 3 TIMES as much to fix the same issue). Had me in and out in about 1.5 hours. Very professional, quick, and location has a clean waiting room with a big TV. The gentleman at the front desk who greeted me (David) was GREAT! He was kind, polite, made me feel welcomed, and was happy to service my vehicle needs quickly. A+ on Customer Service! Because my initial experience with this location was great I returned this week for auto repair service on an AWD Nissan Rouge. They did my rear brakes and a time line with cost quote for when the front would need to be done. Covid-19 safety measures in place as I waited for my vehicle. I was having problems with my exhaust. I'd had them addressed at another place, but the problem wasn't completely solved and then just came back. I was getting ready to leave for a trip and was worried it would start getting really loud again or just fall out completely, so I called the Midas in Ellicott City. They were able to fit me in that same day, completed the work in about half the time estimated, and charged me what I felt was a very reasonable price. This has been about five months ago now, and the noise and rattling haven't returned at all. They also gave a full warranty on the work and parts, so I feel good about the future outlook. Just went today for an oil change there for the first time (usually have it done at the dealer). They found a coupon for me to give me a better deal than the list price, threw in a tire rotation for free, and finished it before the promised time. I've had nothing but good experiences so far with them. The waiting area is comfortable, big TV, free wifi, free coffee. read more

This review is for Midas located at 9438 Baltimore National Pike, Ellicott City, MD. I went to Midas because my brake light came on the day before. I was told the problem was the brake fluid needed to be filled. That it was only about a quarter low and the brake light came on because of that. They filled it and I drove away (no charge). As I pulled out of the parking lot, the brake light came on again. I continued to run another errand then decided to go back to Midas and tell them the brake light came on again. (all this time, the brakes were working just fine). The technician told me they would do a more thorough check. The put the car on the lift while I waited. The technician came to me later and told a tale of how i would have to spend over $700 to get my brake lining replaced among other things. He then took me under the car to show me that the lining was leaking. I wanted to get the service based on his compelling explanation of the problem, but did not have the money at the moment. I asked for optional payment plans, etc. and wanted to go home with the car and figure out how to finance it. He emailed me a Midas financing agreement to my phone and expected me to complete right then and there. I told the technician I wanted time to think. He appeared disappointed that I would not leave the car there. I felt he was pressuring me by his tone and manner and stated that. I asked them to take the car off the lift and let me take it. I could tell he was not happy about that, but another technician brought the car out. When I got into the car, the emergency brake was on. I turned it off and proceeded to drive out of the lot. To my dismay, the brakes did not work at all. The brakes were totally gone. The only thing that worked was the emergency brake. I stopped the car and went back into the Midas and asked them why the brakes were not working at all. They tried to tell me it was because the brake fluid was leaking. But, how did I lose that much brake fluid between the time I pulled back into the Midas to tell them the brake light had come back on and the time it took for them to put the car on the lift. I mean, I had absolutely no braking action. The technician claimed they had done nothing wrong. They made a show of going to the car and putting more brake fluid in it. I tried to drive it again without any success. The brakes were totally gone. So my question is, if I had not returned to the Midas and told them that the brake light has come back on, would I be going through this? I got the car towed off their lot and taken to another mechanic who would not be able to look over the car for another two-three days. I am now left with no way to get to work and must spend money on an Uber for transportation. I am furious because I know without a doubt that Midas was trying to con me and expected me to fall for it. They did something to the brakes to try and force me to let them fix it. read more

They call themselves a repair shop, I went there to get my brakes check and they said my car needed brakes. I agreed to have the service done but the young tech they had working on my car seemed to have had difficulty doing the job. They said it was wrong parts delivered, wouldn't they notice If the new parts matched the old parts. They say they fix cars, this guy probably couldn't fix a sandwich. read more

Hours on the door says they open at 7:30. At 8:25, ONE guy shows up to open the store and doesn't even apologize for being an hour late. For a full service store that should be fully manned with one guy showing up an hour late by himself should give you an indication of the management and operations of the place. Took my car in this morning because of a flat tire. Terry was very courteous and helpful. He pulled out my tire to find the hole/nail. Unfortunately it was not repairable because the nail was so close to the edge. He offered to order the tire for me and when I told him I was from out of town he suggested a few other places that might have my special tire in stock. He put plastic in my trunk and placed my very dirty tire in. Even though he couldn't solve my problem he helped me best he could. Great experience! read more

Since my last, previous review was initially posted, I was invited back to Midas in a "give us another chance" gesture. Midas wanted to demonstrate that the "declining customer service" was a one-off, unfortunate set of events and that their service is much better than the initial event would seem to indicate. Fair enough, Midas! So I did return the next time my car - the same vehicle - needed servicing. And, in that case, I arrived at the appointment time. The service technician knew what work was to be done, and immediately began work (It was just an oil change and service checks) - and continued towork on the vehicle until the work was completed (That was key here!). The technician completed the work in about 50% of the normal time (I had been accustomed to waiting at least an hour and a half for similar service). And it was not just a cursory set of checks. The technician went to great lengths to check out a suspicious condition that he found and to provide an estimate of repair if needed. So, it was not just "speed for speed's sake". In the end, the work was done quickly, done right, done well, and done with customer service in mind. That's what I had wanted - good service. And that is what Midas delivered. They have restored my faith that this shop is dedicated to knowing their customers, understanding what they need, and providing them good service. And that is what distinguishes them from other competent mechanic shops. They have proven that they are paying attention and, if something is awry, they will make it right. Have been meaning to write this review for quite some time now. This location is awful, and dishonest. It all started when I went for an oil change and tire rotation. I asked them if they rotated the tires, and they said they did. Then when I asked why a tire that had a mark on it was still in the same location they said "oh I guess we didn't rotate them actually". The next oil change with them they left greasy handprints all over my headliner above the driver seat. At that oil change they told me I needed all new brakes and rotors, and possibly a new tie rod. Thank goodness I had several second opinions, who all assured me my brakes and rotors are totally fine as well as the tire rods! Unbelievable, even after I told them I had a wedding in a few months and couldn't spare that extra expense. They still lied to me!! Will never return to this location, and suggest you don't go either! read more

These guys are honest, friendly, and doing a fantastic works. My 2015 Lexus IS250 has 30k miles on it, so you know it's time for new brakes. I went to 4 different shops, including both local and national chains; and they all provided me with different options, and the cost was between $500 to a thousand for replacing pads/rotors for all 4-wheels. Luckily, this Midas shop in Ellicott City gave me much lower estimate over the phone. I was skeptical at first, and reluctant to bring the car in. Hurrah! a couple of hours later, I have saved a couple of hundred bucks from this Midas Touch, and you asked why. It turned out the rear pads/rotors would be fine for another 6+ months, and the front rotors could be resurfaced instead of replaced with new set. Did I mention that they have offered me a cup of joe when I first walked in the door, asked if I need a ride to work or home, and clipped coupons for additional savings (talking about found money here)? My car didn't turn into gold with their Midas Touch, but a couple of hundred dollars in saving would be more than enough for me to bring my BMW in for full-synthetic oil change and a nice diner. read more

Definition of a SCAM. Took my car to get a check engine light looked at, got a call back an hour later with a LIST of "issues" that they found. Wanted me to spend 1,000+ dollars, didn't even mention the check engine light. I made a comment about how I would have to talk to my husband and how I was going to pick it up, when the man at the front desk said, "Are you even interested in what I have to say because you're acting like you don't even care or want to listen!" He said it in the snappiest voice like a young child having a temper tantrum. Took my car to another place down the street and it was just a blown switch for 20 bucks, everything else was fine. read more

This location seems appropriate for getting routine maintenance done like oil changes and all. Did a mistake of getting the front exhaust and catalytic converter changed. The service seemed OK initially but started having issues with the exhaust and had a leak again and I would say wasn't treated that courteously when I showed them the issues.Had to go multiple times to get the issues fixed and while they were fixed with no charges but had to spend hours getting that done and they still were not able to diagnose the full issue and asked me to go to a dealership to get that checked :) (Promised they will call with a diagnosis but never did) . Had other issue with wrong rebate being promised but after a small altercation and an angry call with the area manager , they made it up by providing another service of the same value as of the rebate. All in all wasn't that great of an experience and would probably take a quote from a better place (delatership?) and would get it done there if the price difference isn't that much (which it wasn't). read more
