I told the guy working there that I needed an oil change, and my horn needed to be fixed as it wasn't honking. He said no problem, he'll get it done by the end of the day or the next day. He said they got "too busy" and couldn't fix the horn. Not only that but he said I couldn't get an appointment again probably until Christmas. He then proceeded to go back on his word hours before it was supposed to be done, saying that they only did one of those two things-and didn't fix the horn. Not only that but the younger fellow who was working on my car somehow got my keys locked in the car and they had to call a locksmith to open the car. Absolute worst customer service, went in for an mvi and they told me my car's brakes were completely gone and that the car was unsafe for the road even though I had been driving the car for several weeks and brakes were working fine although the rear brake pads did need to be replaced. They ripped off the valid mvi sticker (1 year left) and refused to give me a rejected mvi sticker so I could take it to another shop for a second opinion or repairs. They tried to force me to replace all rotors, pads and callipers for 1800 by implying that I would be caught by the rcmp as soon as I left the shop. I ordered the highest/premium quality car parts for 400 online (all rotors and pads) and got them replaced at another shop, even though all I needed was rear brake pads. They kept arguing that if I drove the car I would be stopped by the rcmp unless I got the car towed away (sort of implying they would call the cops on me and scare me into getting repairs done through them). I then asked if I could park the car at their lot until 7pm to get a tow truck however they did not allow it and asked me to drive my "unroadworthy car with failed brakes" across the street and park it there. read more

I have A Huyndai Santa Fe. Took it to the dealership twice to resolve a break problem. Finally took it to Midas, which I have used on the past. I was not talked down to, as if I knew nothing about vehicles. Spoke with the tech assigned to my vehicle and was very impressed with his knowledge. The problems were found and sorted out....finally. Will be taking my car to Midas for brakes and tires from now on. It takes a lot to impress me, after teaching for almost thirty years as a tech teacher. This place and the people did it. read more

I attended my appointment for an oil change. About 30 minutes later I received a telephone call from Midas to tell me I needed to replace my tires. I told them I was planning to change them in the spring as I will be storing the vehicle for the winter after the oil change. The manager refused to complete the oil change unless I bought new tires. Came in to do oil change. During routine check was told transmission lines are rusted and leaking. Looked at lines in shop trans fluid was dripping from lines. Went home wiped lines down, which are constructed of stainless steel. Used paper towels, then went for ride took it through all gears and reeved high and low, and rechecked no oil dripping lines are clean, seemed fishy that there was oil dripping only when it was on lift at the shop and no signs of drips in my regular paved driveway parking spot!!! read more

I would probably give these guys less than 1 star if that was an option. They are complete crooks who tried their best to take advantage of a young woman. I had taken my 2007 Camry for a safety inspection in 2017. They guys told me it would cost 1500$ to get the car inspection worthy then put a rejected sticker on the windshield. Because of the age of the car this did not seem like the best move. One of the mechanics named Isaac had asked me if I would like to sell him the car for 300$ and tried to convince me that that would be one payment on a new Honda at the dealership across the street. I took the car to the Dealership and they got it up to inspection standard for 700$... half of what the guys at midas told me. I went on to drive the car for another 2.5 years then sold it for 1200$ when the power steering had blown. Moral of the story is do not trust these guys, they might seem honest and like they are taking good care of you... they are not call the dealer for a better deal! read more

After hearing a rubbing sound, I took my car onto Midas on Robie St for an inspection and was informed that my rear breaks were in terrible condition. I had the breaks replaced less the 18 months ago at another local repair shop ( I won't name the shop as the issue has been resolved and see no point of dragging their name through the mud). Not only did they do a great job, but with their suggestion I took photos that showed the work was done improperly . Normally I avoid these types of places for reviews, but I recently got my car serviced here and as I never know where to go I thought I would help someone else out a bit! I was getting my car winterized, winter special of 49$ for all the fluid changes etc. I also wanted to check the brakes, the inspection cost 40$. Brake check = nothing wrong. Ease of mind for 40 bucks...I'm ok with that! The winter special, standard price around town, pretty good! My only downside of the visit, they pushed VERY hard to pressure me into winter tires. They must have seen a girl with little to no knowledge of car, which is accurate, what they did not know is I have a family connection to someone in the industry who has assured me this is NOT true! I normally go to Dartmouth for my car needs but for this quick service and deal I went around the corner for convenience. The general service was good, just a little uneasy with the added pressure, it will make me think twice about going back because I have trouble saying "no" to salesman! In two words? Downright shady. Went in for a muffler replacement, didn't even mention to me that there was a basic $99.00 muffler on offer, and just sold me the $200+ version. Sure, there's a lifetime warranty, but it only covers the muffler, not the inevitable replacement of the other components that go with it, which will net you another 300-400 bucks. While I was waiting, also noticed that the salesman seem to be shunting people toward a nearby car care clinic for rust issues and the like (in sales, we called that 'bird-dogging' basically lining up business for your buddy down the street.) The guy had a couple in their late 70s pretty much convinced that their five-year-old car was on its last legs (It wasn't.) and that his buddy down the street could take care of them. Ethical, right? I suspect he may have twigged to my dissatisfaction, as he downright avoided my request to update my contact information with the company itself. Pretty good chance he knew they would be follow up from their call center. Long story short, if you're dealing with a guy there who use the phrase "...and you're out the door, smiling"? Don't walk away, run. If you don't believe me, take a look at all of the "I'm sorry you had a negative experience" responses for this location under Google Reviews. I started out thinking my oil change and top of fluids was a good experience then after about an hour of driving my car I see that they very cheaply had only topped up my fluids with enough for my sensors to not come on. Also never trust what they say about your tires they told me the tread depth was at three and I needed to replace my tires but my husband is a tire tech and my tread depth is actually at seven! The tires haven't been used for a full year as of yet! My first and last experience using them. I thought the coupons they sent out made it a good deal but if they scrimp on windshield washer fluid which they probably pay $1.00 for what else are they not really topping up?? This experience started out quite well with a confirmed appointment for 9:00 am. I arrived at 8:40 for an oil change and tire rotation. 9:00 came and went, others that came after me went in first. My car was put in the garage at 9:30am. The estimated cost was $79.00. One hour and ten minutes later I was told my car was ready. The total bill was $100.57 I inquired about the difference and was told there were shop costs. Now, I may not be very smart but how many shop parts are required to do an oil change and a tire rotation. As far as I am concerned this place is a money grab. The service was the worst I have ever encountered and I can't say for sure they even rotated my tires, I am pretty sure they did not. I hope they took a good look at my car because it will be the last time they will ever see it. If you go there to get work done, don't let the smiles and giggles upon arriving fool you. Midas advertises a $29 oil change which is awesome and the best deal I've seen in the city. Plus, they have a $5 off online coupon so I thought I'd have a great experience. Turns out, you actually pay $40 for your oil change after they tack on $2 for parts and an extra $3 for labour and then tax that. Oh, and because this is SUCH a good deal, they won't accept the online coupon they advertise. Great. Not actually the best deal in town anymore. One good thing was that they conveniently caught that my inspection was due and kindly offered to perform one for me. I am glad they brought it up, I truly didn't realize it had been two years already. Anyway, my car was rejected based on the need for new brake pads, rotors and sway bar links. Midas quoted me $770 to do the work. I stated that my spouse would do the work for me and I'd bring it back in. Then I was told that the second inspection would cost an additional $15 more than a traditional motor vehicle inspection because now they'd have to have their brake specialist check my car out and perform a brake inspection. The rule is that if you fail an inspection, get the work done in 3 weeks post failure, the originating inspector should repeat the same inspection for free. I bought every part I needed for $175.00, the labour was free and I paid Todd's South End Auto $32 to inspect it and passed with no issues. Thank you Midas for your 75% mark up, poor customer service and reminding us all that we need to read the fine print. read more

I went to check breaks in first week of June. They asked me to change rotor pads and all 4 breaks. They gave me bill of $1300 I said I will come back to change breaks you just fix my TPMS for now. But they said when you will come to change breaks we will fix TPMS also and I paid $80 for no work done. Recently I am facing issues with my car. My car have auto stop system in it. Whenever we push break on signals for long then engine stops working and when you release breaks engine starts by itself but my car shuts off whenever I push breaks and stop my car on signals and it takes 10-15 minutes to restart it. I feel like those people did something wrong with my car because I didn't want to change breaks or they don't have any experience of fixing the cars that's why they fixed it wrong. read more

Worst experience of my life. Never taking any of my cars there again. I'm going to explain what happened with both my veichles. veichle 1( high end veichle):Did brake pad and rotors on all 4 t. Let's just say,I went in there with no issue after replacing brake pads and rotors they haven't stopped squealing. They used cheap pads on the front and installed the wrong parts on the back. told me squealing will stop after 500-750 km due to therm being ceramic pads and rotors. 500-800 km later I'm still squealing. I go back to them keep in mind I probably went back there 6 times maybe even more. Do a bunch of tests . Oh wait you have the wrong parts on the back. Ok cool they change it no cost, obviously it's they're mistake. Backs are now solved don't squeal or anything. One of the Front pads make a loud pitch noise when braking and the other side squeaks when you brake multiple times whenpads get hot. They're diagnosis was your front caliper is sticking you need a new one. Keep in mind my car was perfect before handing it over to them. I was no way your touching my caliper after the brake issue. So I take it to my actual dealership and guess what they told me. Yes you need a new caliber because who ever put those on ruined your thread on the caliper so the bottom of the caliper was never fitted corrected so that's why it screeched. So not only did they screw up one of my caliper which goes for 600-800$. The never admitted it and tried to get me to pay for it. So I get fed up go to another shop that deals with these high end veichles and he took one look at my veichles said the same thing and told me I'm going to try and fix your caliper because you don't want to buy another one cause it expensive.( I was like wow where were you when I needed you ) anyway they fixed my caliper changed the pads and bam car sounds and feels like new. Veichle 2 : bought this veichle in 2 times it was diagnosed wrong twice and quoted me ridiculous prices. Once it was leaking oil and they told me it would be around 300$ to fix it, i went to another shop the Part cost me 60$ which was just a metal piece. Took them 20 mins to put it on paid 80 bucks and Fixed!! 2nd time it wasn't shifting over 3rd gear I take it in. oh you need a whole new torque converter. Go to another shop change the shift solenoid and bam fixed and it was off a used veichle so only paid for labor. read more

You know what? I hate getting my car fixed. People treat me like I am an idiot (although, I might be a bit of a car idiot) But that does not mean I do not want to be treated like a human. Last Saturday I was trying to go to a wedding, and my car started being a problem. I drove around looking for a place to take a look at it. Most people laughed, saying they had no space. But the guy at Midas was really nice. He listened, he felt bad and even though they could not take us, I made an appointment for Tuesday. I had a part replaced a few weeks ago. I thought they could replace just a small part of the system as it was just a bad joint but no, they ended up replacing a great long section. I could have had the same work done at Canadian Tire for $100 less. Not impressed at all. Yes it was good work but geeze how about putting a little effort into saving the customer some money. I called around to get a problem with my brakes looked at. I was able to find a garage near my work that could get me in on the next Friday, but decided to go with Midas since they're around the block from my house, are open on Saturdays (how convenient!) and were able to schedule me on that Saturday. The issue with my brakes gets worse, to the point where I have to call into work on Friday because I don't think it's safe for me to be driving my car. I call Midas to tell them that I'm free today, so if they have any spots open on their docket I could drop my car in today instead of tomorrow. They call me back telling me that not only can they not fit me in early (fine, no big deal) but they won't be able to do my car on the Saturday either. And with it being a long weekend, the earliest they can look at my car is maybe later the next week. I'm now here sitting here with a car that's unsafe to drive, and having to rent a car to get to and from work. I've never had a garage cancel an appointment on me. Let alone the day before. Very friendly people whos main goal is to rip off everyone that comes in. Was lied to about warranty coverage (lack of), parts being available (sat half hour until napa dropped them off), parts in dire need of replacement or car is unsafe(parts were perfect) and I'm sure there was more. Owner became unavailable when I called them on their lies. Everyone I seen come in during my long wait was "upsold" or at least set up for a future upsell. Just all around crooked scammers, but with a friendly demeanor and smile. Don't let them get you !! At the very least get a second opinion on everything they say !! I went for an oil change and tire rotation, at the Robie St, in Halifax NS location, which was by appointment. Once I got there I wasn't greeted with a smile or even a hello. Directly I was asked where is your mask by an employee who wasn't wearing a mask or was he behind the shield. He was openly standing in the shop area. After advising him I cannot wear a mask because of underline medical conditions and offered to show proof, he glared and me for a few seconds and allowed me to come in. Approximately 15 minutes of being seated, he still with no mask on, blurts out "When another customer comes in, you have to leave", which is what happened. I could have made other arrangements if he would have told me this from the beginning; instead of humiliating me. Needless to say, I cancelled my service, before leaving. Way to go Midas. You just lost a customer that was spending quite a bit of money in your store. read more

As promised, an update to the service story. Took the car back and had the muffler replaced. The new one is quieter but not by much. So I'm going to drive it for a bit to see if it quietens down. The mechanic again stated the muffler needs to carbon up, that it will get quieter. My question is why is this necessary? Certainly doesn't happen with OEM mufflers that are quiet from the first turn of the key. Basically, it's beginning to look like just a crappy product. read more

I do not recommend this shop to ANYONE. I have been in 3 times now and each experience is worse than the last. Yesterday they charged me $108 for absolutely nothing. I had an appointment booked and when they looked at my car, they said they can not do what I had booked the appointment for and I would have to come back. They charged me labor, parts and a shop supply fee for a total of $108. They looked at my car for 10 minutes and did not touch a thing. This is a very bad business move on their part and I hope they are not able to take advantage of anyone the way they have to me. read more

Recently, I had terrible customer service by whoever it is at Midas responsible for obtaining my consent to do additional work on my car. I brought my car in to get an oil change and my 4 winter tires put on. I was quoted $89 + tax. Later that day when I went to pick my car up, my invoice came to almost $160. When I inquired about it, the guy behind the counter (Dave) explained that they had to spend extra time cleaning my rims which cost an extra $40 in labour. Regardless of whether I agreed with having my rims cleaned, I was very annoyed that I was never given the opportunity to agree/disagree with doing that work. Regardless of whether extra work needs to be done, a service company should contact the car owner FIRST, explain the extra work and necessity of it, and ask for consent to go ahead and complete it. Midas refused to accept responsibility for not having contacted me prior to doing the work by repeatedly saying that the work had to be done. I explained that I wasn't disagreeing with the issue of whether the work needed to be done...I was disagreeing with the fact they failed to call me first about it and to get my permission to go ahead with it. I left upset and annoyed and am definitely not bringing my car there again. read more

I used Midas for their Tire hotel and tire change services. They cancelled my first appointment because they didn't get my tires in time. When I showed up to my rescheduled appointment, they told me that they still didn't have them so I waited for 2 hours nearby to hear if they arrived. Once they arrived, they REFUSED to put my winters on "because two of them are so worn down they're unsafe" and they gave me a quote for $650 to replace the two. They held me hostage and gave me no other options. My tires are not even halfway through their life cycle and I knew they were taking advantage of me, being a young woman and a stereotypically 'uneducated car owner'. So I told them to hand over my tires and I left. The next week I got my winters put on at the dealership and they told me my tires are safe and do not need replacing yet. They also ripped off my roommate and charged her $100 for a tire change when they quoted her $60 "because it costs us more to put on tires that weren't purchased here". When she questioned their reasoning all they could say were things like "that's just how it works". She even asked for a detailed invoice outlining the extra charges and they simply said "oh we don't do those". Snakes. read more

Took my car in for a routine oil change on a Thursday, which was all well and good. Made recommendations for what needed to be dealt with on my upcoming MVI. Fine. Drove my car like I normally do, to work, running errands. Alright. Driving to work Monday afternoon my oil light comes on. First thought in my head is 'I just had an oil change, why the hell is my light on?'. Not 5 minutes down the road I have a massive oil leak and end up on the side of the road. Come to find out my oil filter had been leaking since had been changed. Very obviously, my oil change was not done properly. I get it towed back to Midas and tell them to fix their mistake. Get a phone call the next day saying part of my oil filter got blown off (what?) and the engine is now shot and it needs to be replaced. Blamed me for it saying my vehicle wasn't maintained properly. It was. Never once took onus for not having done their job. I'm having my car taken elsewhere to have work done. read more
