On June 14, 2021, I brought my vehicle into this Midas location to have the front brake pads changed. Because I was the only customer in the shop, Fernando, the manager, consistently engaged me in conversation. He somehow managed to talk me into paying for two new front rotors. After reluctantly agreeing to this additional charge, Fernando talked me into having my brake and coolant fluids drained and replaced. I was skeptical about these ancillary charges but relented simply because I always had faith in the Midas name. The next morning while driving, my vehicle's temperature gauge suddenly shot up to high. At the same time, my check engine light became illuminated and my car began emitting an "emergency" sound. Trust me, if you heard it, you would immediately know that it was the sound of doom. Absolutely nothing good could come out of the vehicle steadily making this loud annoying noise. I then smelled the anti-freeze in the engine from under the hood. Before I had the opportunity to pull over, my car overheated and shut down. By then the anti-freeze had spewed all over the engine and smoke began rising up all over the place. I then called Fernando and he said that he'd send two of his employees right over to my location. He relayed to me how it would take two people to fix the problem, not just one. Many hours later, when the two employees finally came to my location, they both told me that this problem was caused by the other employee who changed the fluids the day before. I am not a mechanic, but from what I gathered while they were fixing the problem, they said he had made a crucial mistake by allowing air bubbles to get inside the coolant. When air gets into this sealed system, air pockets can form and cause blockages, which can lead to bubbling and overheating. Both of the employees were very professional and were exceedingly apologetic. They emphasized repeatedly that this problem should never have happened. They insisted that I should have my money refunded as it was 100 percent Midas' fault for hiring an inexperienced and careless worker. The both of them were there fixing the problem for two to three hours. They told me this is how long it generally takes to have all of the air bubbles removed from the coolant once air gets into it. Before they left, they refilled the anti-freeze and then gave me the container with the remaining coolant. I only have adulation for these two employees, but only contempt for Midas for negligently hiring an inept, unqualified employee. read more

Let me start off by saying if i could give no stars i would based on the dishonesty, disrespect and shadiness at this Midas location. On July 26th, 2023 on my way to work my car started shaking, wouldnt accelerate and shut off. The next morning had it towed to Midas. I will try to make this short. I knew I had a coolant leak, they fixed that. I wanted my current issue with my car fixed. I was paying for them to fix that problem so it would never happen again. My only other issue was an oil leak. I could only afford to do my coolant leak and the shaking/shut off issue. They told me i needed a new catalytic converter and informed me i had 2 converters but for my car i only had 1. They even tested the car after repairs and said it had no issues. The total bill was apx $2500. The next day on the way home from work at 12am my car did the same thing, shaking no acceleration, shut off. Had it towed to Midas again where my mom was waiting for me when she should have been asleep at home!!! The next morning went back to Midas to explain the issue and again try to resolve the problem. Mind you they originally said the oil leak would not have contributed to the issues i was having. They said it could be something else, maybe the front catalytic converter...again mind you I only had 1 catalytic converter. My check engine light also came on this time. They came to the conclusion it was the distributor and spark plugs that needed to be replaced which would cost $537. I was reassured i would have no issues after this. They even let my car run all day and it did shut off for one of the guys Dennis who i trusted in the begining until he proved otherwise. When my mother and I showed up to pay she had to use a different card but she maxed out her regular one with the charges from the first job they did. She was on the phone with the credit card company making sure she used the right card for this job. Sean the manager mentionted they might have to refund it all for this job, the $537. Dennis told us we didnt have to pay the $537. What mechanic shop just lets us go on $537? Answer is none! Unless they did something shady or overcharged and it was their escape goat if we had anymore problems. After clearing the check engine light the 2nd fix it popped on when I was on the way home from work August 5th, 2023 at 11:30pm, and the same vibrations and stalling that happened the first and 2nd time happened again. Made it home. August 7th, 2023 took the car to Meineke to have it checked because Injust didnt trust the guys at Midas anymore. Meineke called me at work and confirmed I only had 1 catalytic converter despite Midas saying I had 2 multiple times. Meineke told me I should take it back to Midas since i had warranty on the parts they fixed and since I payed for the job already. Meineke also informed me about bolts missing on my head gasket after Midas fixed my car the 2nd time. Meineke also mentioned the BRAND NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS CLOGGED!!! Yes all in caps. The next morning took it back to Midas. Mind you i missed apx 5-6 shifts between my two jobs because of the issues Midas caused me not properly fixing my car. That morning I stood outside talking to 3 of them Dennis, Shane, and another guy. I liked and trusted Dennis and Shane until i caught Dennis in lies this day. Explained the issues again they said could be the flex pipe that was clogged from the oil leak, although in the the begining they said that wasnt a contributing issue. They should have fully examined the whole car for every issue the first time. So this 3rd job would be flex pipe issue @$475 or $479 Shaun quoted me and you would think thats the total. They dont tell you labor charges qith their quote they surprise you with it later. So when finding out it might be the flex pipe issue I continued talking to Dennis who nicely kept throwing it in my face that they let us go on the $537. We were pissed though and I asked for the corporate #. Dennis told me if we contact corporate theyre going to make us pay the $537. So basically Dennis threatened me. I even called a Honda dealership to confirm I had 1 catalytic conver because they kept telling me I had 2. Dennis called up with a total of $389 (labor charges not included but led me to believe they were). I informed Dennis of my Honda dealership call and he said we meant manifold not a 2nd converter. I caught him in multiple lies and stumbling over his words. My father did call corporate. When my mother and I went to go pay Shaun informed us we had to pay the $537. We told him Dennis said you guys would pay for it. Shaun acted surprised and said Dennis said he never said that and had texts of Dennis denying he ever said that. Remember Dennis threatened if we called corporate we would have to pay. After this we definitely disputed charges&car broke down again. Today 08-21-23 got a call from Midas harrassing us about disputing. read more

I don't get the negative posts... if you go somewhere, ANYWHERE for service, they always do a "complementary" inspection. This serves 2 purposes. First this ensures that you're vehicle doesn't have any issues you're not aware of. I mean I know I don't get on the ground to inspect the undercarriage or find what that rattle is. Second, it's to bring in additional revenue. Show me a business that doesn't do that. "You want fries with that?" Anyway, I delt with Jeff. I originally had an appointment for later in the day but wanted to make it earlier, no problem. I wanted certain things addressed, again no problem. I left paying for what I came in for. Horrible people working here. Absolute rip off - they charged my 83 Year old father $4,300 for the catalytic converters and oxygen censors in his 2005 Ford F-150. I went there and told them to stop working, and that I would pay them for the work they did but they refused. That's real nice to do to an 83 year old man. warning: do not take you vehicle here- not even for an oil change. I had an oil change done because I had a 49.99 coupon. worst mistake ever. A day after the oil change the heat shield came loose under the vehicle. When I called to address this the mechanic told me that was impossible because they didn't have to remove it to do the oil change- this was not true, as another mechanic told me it absolutely was removed to access the oil Pan. Further evidence OF the removal was the plastic undercarriage was torn apart and not put back together properly. A few days later I was traveling with my family including my 5 year niece- when the car began smoking wildly ON the busiest highway in my area. TRUCKS BLARING BY AT 80mph!We pulled over on a dangerous shoulder and had to get out for fear it was going to blow up- oil spilled out from under the car everywhere. After the cops and tow came and the car was taken to be repaired - turns out the OIL PLUG- was never screwed in properly and at high speed it was forced out. Upon contacting Midas- ha! All they wanted to do was offer a free oil change. No apology and no responsibility. Don't see how there still in business. They charged me $680.00 for a new muffler, when I asked why, they said I had bad bumpers and they were expensive. I asked to see the bumpers they removed and they couldn't produce them and my muffler leaked. I called the owner and told him of my issues, he sent me to another site he owned to have muffler repaired and never said/did anything about the 680 or the bad bumper story. I have been taking my truck to Midas in Howell for the last 3 years. They always do the right thing when it comes to my 2003 f250 it's my work truck so I can't have it tied up in the shop. These guys are literally money hungry. I'm a humble guy, just going to get my oil changed. Left with a quote for work that needs to be done to my car for $995. They will always find something else and try to up-sell you. There's a sign on the desk saying "if you give us a 5-star review on yelp we will take $5 off of your bill". What does that say? They're hurting for good reviews and to no surprise they have a low rating on yelp. I only went to them because there was a coupon online for an oil change, but never again. Prior to getting my car fixed, I negotiated the price over the phone. Instead of simply fixing one problem and charging the fixed already negotiated price, I repeatedly (every 5 to 10 minutes) felt stressed and pressured to fix other things that I didn't need, to change all 4 tires etc. etc. In the end, I had to pay more than the earlier mutually negotiated price for the repair. The guys at Midas repeatedly kept saying, business is dead due to Coronavirus, and they are looking to generate some new business for the shop. Midas, of Howell on Route 9 (next to Lakewood) is not a honest or a trustable repair place. They don't care about the customer service, instead they only care about making more money off of their customers one way or the other. Worst Customer Service Ever. I had brakes, rotors and pads done in May of 2017 and needed them again in July of 2018. They were not installed probably causing the brake hose to collapse. I would avoid this Midas at all costs. Took my car for a catalytic converter repair and they quoted a repair that was $300 less than the dealer. Seemed like a good idea but was an awful mistake. They are incapable of fixing this type of repair. I have had to bring the car back 7 times already for the same problem including an another $600 out of pocket for additional damage done to the engine because of their incompetence. Now on the 8th trip back they have the nerve to tell me I need to pay for an additional part to complete the repair? How is that customer service? The only time they call to give you information on your car is when its to try to get more money out of you. Otherwise, they say they will call you back and then never do. These guys are first rate con artists. They sold me an exhaust system in March of 2016. Had to bring it back twice for adjustment after it was rattling and hanging off the hangers under the vehicle. With 18 months the tailpipe was hanging off the car and it sounds like a Jet Engine. I took it back under their "lifetime muffler guarantee" and amazingly everything on the car is not covered somehow. Luckily for me the manager Rob was willing to fix it again for the bargain price of 800 dollars! Unbelievable. This establishment has been the worse place to bring my vehicle, The first incident was that they broke my oil cap and failed to tell me when i went for an oil change, i drove home, heard a ticking and when i looked under the hood they did NOT put the oil cap on at all, oil all over the inside of the hood, i went back and they just shrugged there shoulders, said sorry, refilled the oil, but left the same broken cap on there and did not even clean up the mess. The next year I deployed overseas and my mother brought my vehicle there to matinance while i was gone, then i come back and find out they broke, or just did not put on 2 lug nuts, broke off one stud the lugnuts go onto , and stripped a lugnut on my front tire, all within 1 yr, and all they did was shrug there shoulders, and ask if i wanted them to fix it at MY COST!! I don't know why the first review on here is so bad and angry. I've gone to this Midas for about 15 years now with all of my cars. They are the only mechanic I've ever 100% trusted. There have been times when I went in asking for certain things that "needed" to be done per my dealership and the guys at Midas flat out told me it wasn't necessary and a waste of money. Most mechanics would't ask questions and just do whatever was asked plus a list of other "findings" that need to be done just to make a buck. The guys at this Midas are friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable. I've always gone here, always will, and will keep recommending them to all my family and friends. I used to really trust this location, but this younger crew they had on my last service is steering me towards another business. I went for a oil change and asked if they check lights knowing my plate light is out. He says, yes i checked them myself and theyre all good. I then mentioned my plate light and he was just like, oh we can replace that if you like. I then asked after the service if they checked my air filter. He says yes and its still good with miles left on it. Now i worked this industry for over 25 years and after the plate light scenario, i decided to check on my own air filter when i got home. Sure enough the air filter was dirty and clogged with dirt between every filament. I paid 100 bucks for the synthetic oil change which i know that price is average and have no problem with it, but now i cant trust that location to do what they say they will do. Chet D. Howell, NJ Went to get an oil change on 02-20-2017. Told the clerk what I wanted and he had me sign for the OK to do the oil change. They pulled my car in and put it on the alignment rack ~ I told the clerk that I didn't authorize or want my alignment checked. They then put my car up on the lift, and I then noticed that they had taken my tires off my car. I again told the clerk that I don't want my tires rotated as I just replaced the front tires, and I didn't want my tires taken off my car ~ just wanted an oil change. After a short time, the clerk said that I needed rear brakes and he would show me. I went out and looked at the brakes and notice that one of my studs had been broken in half (apparently when the took the lug nuts off). I explained to the clerk that #1 I had owned repairs facilities in the past, and that I would consider replacing the brakes myself, #2 I would like the broken stud to be replaced. Well, the owner of the shop was there and stated that someone else could have cross threaded the lug nut, and he was not responsible for it, but if I did the brake job there, he would replace the stud at no cost to me. I said no, and if you check your computer records you would see that the last place this car was serviced was here, where you took the wheels off to check the brakes. So, if anyone cross threaded the lug nut, it would have been done here. I also told him that I prefer to do minor repairs myself as I have experience in auto repairs and owned my own shops at one time. He said that if all I do is come to him for oil changes, why don't I just take it to an oil change shop. Once again I told him to check his records and he would see that about four months ago I paid over $1000.00 to have my catalytic converter replace at his shop. He then tried to negotiate a price to repair my rear brakes ~~ I then told him that he would never be doing any repairs ever on either one of my two vehicles. Needless to say, the stud was not repaired ~~ leaves you wondering what the term "customer service" stands for anymore. Well, not at this location. I reported him to customer service in Florida, and explained how upset I am over this incident. Terrible Service and shoudy work. Brought my vehicle there for new shocks, struts, and links and wheel alignment. One of the shock bolts was loose when I came to pick it up and had to leave the car for another day, and the Wheel Alignment was not good at all. Came back the next day and picked up the vehicle. Used it 2 days and noticed the alignment was still not right and there was another knocking sound in the rear. Brought it back to them and they couldn't find anything wrong. I had to physically go there myself and test drive the vehicle with the mechanic to hear the noise and check the alignment. After the test drive, the mechanica and I, both looked under the vehicle, we found the new link they installed in the rear was loose and moving. The aligment they tried to blame on the front axle seals and said I needed another $700.00 in repair. I asked them to just rotate the rear tires to the front and that solved the problem of the wheel alignment. I will never go there again! read more
