TL;DR/The Short Version: Used to be a Lowe's now a RONA+…read more Good for hardware and home improvement stuff. The plants in their garden centre aren't in the best shape :( The Long Version: I don't know the full history, but once upon a time, Lowe's, RONA and Home Depot were the big box home improvement stores in Canada. Then Lowe's bought RONA and converted some RONA stores into Lowe's stores, then Lowe's decided to pull out of Canada and sold its Canadian stores to a firm called Sycamore Partners so some Lowe's locations in Canada became RONA+ stores and the rest closed down. So there are still RONA stores around, but the ownership is different from the RONA of days past. This RONA location used to be a Lowe's. Home improvement/hardware stores are not my favourite types of stores, but my husband and father love these types of stores. However, I recently got into houseplants, so whenever my husband and I go to these types of stores to look for home improvement stuff, I go to the garden centre to check out the plants. When I went in March, the plant selection was small and they had some small succulents that were in really rough shape. All etiolated and some leaves were yellowing/browning really bad :( They had some larger succulents in better shape and some cacti that seemed to be doing well. Selection was small in general and in general the plants were in poorer shape here than at other big box stores. The rest of the store looked fine and my husband found what he was looking for. So overall I would say this location is good for home improvement stuff, but not indoor plants from my experience. Lots of free parking. Review #87 (2025)

The only issue has been our experience with our Kitchen Aid induction cooktop. Thinking of buying one...? Please don't! Our 3-year old cooktop started beeping and shutting down. The Extended Warranty covered the part and after two tries the service contractor called Whirlpool (the granddaddy of all appliance companies!). They said the "part was no longer available!" They meant the Induction top board not the ubiquitous control board. As a result our Induction top/ stove is no longer reparable and is basically junkable! So we are looking to replace a 3 yo stove! So UA gets 5 stars, but Kitchen Aid gets 0! How to compute the review?

The appliance was delivered at 5.30am by a very intimidating man who refused to unpack it or lift it onto the kitchen counter. I am a 60+ year old woman and was alone in the house. His parting comment was thar he expected a positive review of the service. Universal Appliance was totally disinterested in my experience. 5.30am was dark (it was Winter), obviously, I was still in bed, clearly not expecting a delivery. I struggled to lift the appliance and had to ask a neighbour for help. Universal Appliance had said that instillation was covered by the additional cost but were dismissive of my experience. The experience was, quite frankly both disturbing and threatening. I have bought an Aga stove and the Sharp multi function microwave from this company. I will never patronize them again.

I have a bit of a mixed opinion about this store. Let me tell you my story…read more.. My boyfriend and I just bought a house so, obviously, we need new furniture. We planned on hitting 6 stores in the city on the weekend. We started with the Brick. Walked in, were initially greeted by an employee who was not at all pushy. Just wanted to know if we were looking for anything specific and to let him know if we needed a hand. Typically commission based speel. We walk around and find a dining set we love that is in the as-is section. Missing chairs and missing the leaves. The chairs we weren't worried about but the leaves were a big deal. What's the point of buying an extending table if you don't have the leaves to extend it? An employee comes by and we ask him if the leaves come with the table. He says he doesn't know but will check. Acceptable answer. 5 minutes later, he comes back. Same answer. He is unsure but assumes that because they aren't currently with it that they don't come with the table. We ask if we can buy them separately. Again, no answer. He says he'll go check. 10 minutes later he hasn't returned. So we decide to leave. We stop by the computer where he is working to let him know we're not interested anymore and ask him a few other questions about the table. His last words to us "It's rubberwood." I ask him, what is that? ... He had to ask his manager exactly what rubberwood was ... final straw, I was gone. We hit the other stores in the city and did not find anything that even came close to comparing to the dining set we loved at the Brick. I did my research on the Brick website and started trying to figure out cost of buying the same table new. On a whim, we decided to go back to the Brick and look at the table. Keep in mind, this is now 4-5 hours into furniture shopping so we're both getting tired and frustrated. We walk into the store and begin looking at couches again. There was a set of Bonded Leather sofas that we loved. We just needed to know if the bonded leather would stand up to the kids as much as real leather would. We walk around and are greeted by a different salesman, Eddy. Eddy was AMAZING. He had EVERY answer in the world for us. Explained bonded leather to us, talked to us about warranties, gave us every detail of how to protect our furniture. He was great. Then, he says to us "Our President's Sale was yesterday. Let me see if the code is still active. It would let you buy one, get the second at 75% off." MAGIC. I understand that this is yet another sales technique BUT the fact of the matter is, we were never offered this deal the first time we came into the store. So, Eddy comes back to us and says he can get us the deal. AMAZING. We tell him we're also looking for a dining room table. He asks us to show him which one. We do - he excuses himself and goes to the computer. Minutes later, he comes back and asks us to follow him. He shows us the price breakdown. We ended up buying the sofa, loveseat, dining room table with 6 chairs (he got us the chairs for 50 each - they are 200 dollars chairs), an extended warranty worth 329.99 all for 2900$. It should have cost us well over 4000. An incredible easy experience. As we're leaving, Eddy tells us that should we want the extra two chairs, he'll work out a deal for us (which he wrote down on the receipt as proof). Long story short, we go back the next day and buy 2 more dining chairs, an accent chair, 4 accent pillows and a warranty ... all for 850$. Again, it should have cost us well over 1000. Oh - and best part of all this, instead of waiting the 2 weeks delivery as is typical of furniture stores ... all of it is getting delivered today. We ordered it all last weekend. Less than a week turn around time ... MIND BLOWING. My SECOND experience at the Brick was AMAZING and SIMPLE. If you get the right person, you're flying. So, find that sales associate that you like and stick with him. I won't buy furniture from the Brick without speaking to Eddy.

My elderly parents had recently moved into a retirement community when they purchased a chair from…read moreThe Brick Ottawa East. Unfortunately, while unwrapping the plastic wrapping they noticed that the stitching along an approximately eight-inch seam had come apart and was also separating from the wooden frame. We contacted the store to request a replacement, but were told that the chair would not be replaced. Instead, my elderly parents were directed to an online link to complete a "service request" form. We were told that a technician would respond within seven business days, if I recall correctly. Considerable time passed without any response, so I contacted the store myself. By that point, my parents had reconsidered keeping the chair and simply wanted it picked up and their money refunded. We were told that because they had accepted delivery, The Brick Ottawa East would not take the chair back. We were then told that a technician would assess and repair the chair and, if it could not be repaired, a replacement would be provided. In other words, my parents were now stuck with a chair they no longer wanted. I was directed to the store manager and left a voicemail explaining the situation and requesting a call back. After a week went by without hearing anything, I called again and left another voicemail. Eventually, a technician did repair the chair. By that time, however, my parents no longer wanted it, so we gave it away. This entire experience was extremely disappointing. My 90-year-old father, who has Alzheimer's, and my 87-year-old mother have rarely been this disappointed with a business. What should have been a simple and reasonable customer-service issue turned into a frustrating and unnecessarily lengthy ordeal for two elderly people. I guess the proceeds from the sale of this chair was more important to The Brick than the negative reputation this experience has generated for among residents of their retirement community and our family and friends.

Forced to access 'manufacturer warranty' for a defective appliance on first use. After 3 days of waiting 9 hours for the 'technician' one finally arrived. 3 weeks later still stuck with non working appliance and Canadian Appliance Source took zero accountability in the product they sold. Customer satisfaction nor consideration of their business reputation is of any concern. Management hangs up after scripted responses and 'passing the buck'. Don't waste your time or money here. Shop local where you can access true customer service and support. If I could rate a 0 star I would! This was by far the worst experience we have ever had as a customer purchasing a new item and encountering a defective machine from the outset. At minimum there should have been support to address and replace the appliance. Instead it was put directly on the customer to complete forms, wait for responses and then be subject to a 25% restocking fee for any exchange or refund!?!?! Absolutely astounding this company is still in business.
