They dropped my gas tank to fix a leak and put the gas tank on too tight. Which prevented the evap valve from opening and I wasn't able to fill up my gas tank. I took it back and they lowered the tank slightly so the valve could open. Not long after my check engine light came on and codes P0442 and P0446 popped up. The mechanic admitted they put the gas tank on too tight, which led to the solenoid malfunction. They offered to fix it for $500! I don't recommend anyone take their vehicle here. They have a pattern of creating more problems for their customers than solving them. read more

This place is a scam, they have no idea what they are doing. They changed the oil and filter of my car. I had to return because my engine light was on. They charged in the hundreds just to reset it. Light came back in few hours. Today I went to the dealership. They asked me where and when I changed the oil last time. They said they ruined the threads where the filter goes. They also failed to diagnosis the engine light. They will take pictures in case I want to take action. I will think about suing them depending on the cost. read more

3 months have passed with many different mechanics checking out my 2011 Lexus ES350 tire pressure light. For some reason the light came on one "chilly" morning in August and no one seemed to be able to rectify this issue. I probably had about 6 different sets of eyes check this out until, believe it or not, Mavis said "Try Middle Country Automotive right down the road". So, after the 100th time of hearing "just drive it awhile, the light will go out" I decided to drive over to Selden and visit MC Automotive. First, I went online to see where they were located and a pop up asked me what the problem was and when would I like to come in? So, long story short, I brought my car in and Troy said he would take a look at my car himself after hearing my long, dull, boring story. A few minutes later he came back and said "all done!" Really?? All done?? And my light was out. Troy is personable, honest and has been at this for quite a number of years. He has customers who have been going there forever. When I mention my experience with MC Automotive, everyone who has gone there wholeheartedly agree with me. Personally, I am happy to have found Troy at MC. He basically solved a problem no one else could figure out. My last resort would have been to take it to Lexus but you and I both know how that would have ended $$$$! Yikes. We have been bringing our cars to Middle Country Auto for almost 20 years. They treat us like family and have never, ever felt that we were being taken advantage of. The team has always broken down what needs service and have given us options based on what was urgent versus what can wait. As an example, we purchased a used car for our daughter. They offered to inspect it for free, which they did a very detailed report with pictures, etc. Based on their appraisal and suggestions of what the seller should fix, we purchased it. Yesterday we brought the car in for service on the items we knew we wanted to fix. Once again, they gave us a detailed report of what we needed to take care of and what could wait. I feel that their prices are more than fair and their service is exceptional and they stand by their work. Everyone there is terrific, thoughtful and understanding...and at the same time pragmatic. This place is excellent! This shop can handle any automotive repair or problem. They don't cherry-pick what they want to repair like some shop do. They usually have three or four full-time A class technicians while other shops most of the time have only one. Excellent place if you have a problem that no one wants to help you including dealerships. One time I had a problem in 2014 with my fathers 2012 Toyota Rav4. The break pedal was soft with engine off and felt weak. I went to two Toyota dealerships since the car had a warranty and they said it was normal while I knew that there was a problem. I finally went to Middle Country Automotive. They confirmed that a break pedal can not be soft with engine off and diagnosed the problem to be ABS pump probably needed bleeding since it was probably not done at the factory. They connected the diagnostic computer and activated the ABS solenoids to bleed the trapped air in the pump. After 15 minutes the brake pedal was nice and firm. I filed a complain at NHTSA and I think it triggered a recall that Toyota hid under some other problem with the ABS pump. At Toyota dealership when I went for the recall the dealership techs only connected the computer the same way the Middle Country Automotive techs did! read more

I gave two stars for a specific reason. First, I would like to say that my family and I have been going here for years, we know the owners and many of the workers, so to write this about a specific worker (that I don't know) is upsetting to me, but necessary. I had brought my car in for an inspection yesterday. When my car was done I got a call from Troy to tell me what was wrong (needed new brake and license plate light bulbs to pass). I ok'd it and went to get my car shortly after. Around 5pm, I was leaving to go to school and my father noticed that my brake light was out. It was the same light that had to be changed and that I was charged for. I went straight up to the shop hoping they were still there so that this problem could be taken care of. The door was still open and I went in and saw that Troy was there. I told him what was wrong and Troy looked at me and said " so what do you want me to do about it? No one is here!" I said, " I can see that, but I need you to look at it please since you changed it and it's not working. My dad looked at it and it looks like the wrong bulb possibly. I can't be driving around like this." Troy then began to tell me that it's past 5pm and he wants to go home already in a really nasty manner that took me back. I then said that I have school that I am running late for to get this taken care of and don't feel comfortable driving home at night like this. He goes "ya ya ya" I'll be right there. We go outside, it took 2 minutes to fix. Troy was completely unprofessional the way he handled the situation, especially since he was the one who did my car. I can't imagine changing something so simple as a light bulb, 1) would be a big issue considering you just did it, and 2) not checking that the changing of the bulb fixed the issue before giving it back to the customer. Like I said, we know many of them very well here, but there was no reason for the mistreatment and unprofessional behavior. read more

I went there on a co-workers recommendation, I had an inspection done and was told I needed a cabin air filter, they showed me the one in my car which looked dirty so I had them replace it, This filter needs to be changed only once every 12 months, I went back for a oil change 3 1/2 months later and was once again showed a dirty cabin air filter and that I needed it changed again. when I told them they just replaced it 3 1/2 months prior they just said oh ok you don't need it done, but you need your fuel filter changed, which I had them do, hopefully it was done. I'm so disappointed and frustrated. I came in to get a wheel alignment. They had previously told me it cost $99. I left my car at 8am and Troy told me it would take about 1 hour and a half. 9:30 he calls me and says that because my car has a little bit of negative camber on my rear tires because I lowered he needed to get them aligned otherwise my tires would wear unevenly and it would take 30 minutes more. I said yes do it. He didn't tell me it would be $50 additional. I get to the shop at 11:30 and my car still not done. Im asking the girl on the counter how much longer it would take for my car to be ready and she gives me and attitude and tells me that Troy stepped out and it would be ten more minutes. Keith comes out and says to me that is taking longer to adjust the rear because my car doesnt have a way to adjust the camber. So why would Troy suggest that he adjust the camber on the rear tires if he knows there is no simple way? Because he wants another reason to charge me more. He already knew that the only reason I needed a wheel alignment is because I replaced the FRONT steering knuckle, so only the FRONT needed to be adjusted. But he wants to charge me more thats why he pushed to do the rear. If he would've said to me when he call me that I would be $50 additional to do the rear I would've said no because I had already asked and knew that is $99 for all wheels. He still charged me the 50. So at the end of the day THEY LEFT MY REAR TIRES WITH WAY TOO MUCH TOE IN, I WAS CHARGED AN EXTRA $50 FOR NO REASON AND I WAS ONE HOUR LATE FOR WORK. So Thanks Middle country automotive for screwing me over. I will never bring any of my cars to your shop again. There has been more times were they tried to over charge me and I will update this post to share with everyone, I just dont have the time right now. read more

My vehicle went in there for some service, next day i got it back there was antifreeze dripping from somewhere under the hood. I call them about it then dropped car back off, they called me later in the day and said one of the coolant hoses needed to be cut back and re-clamped. Went to pick the car up later day day thinking it was on the house BECAUSE NOTHING WAS LEAKING BEFORE I BROUGHT IT IN FOR SERVICE but no they said its going to be $100. Just so happens they did the same thing to my neighbor and he actually went and inspected his leak (THAT HE ALSO HAD RIGHT AFTER HIS CAR LEFT THIS SHOP) before he called them about it and there actually was a slit in his hose that was causing his leak.
