So excited to have an actual brewery in Pineville with more than your basic bar food :) However I wish my review could be better but I am a foodie so keep that in mind :) First a big space I see events in their future outside will be great. Spacious inside , now to the food , we walked to the bar an asked if we order an sit down or what is the lay out. He explained if we were ordering drinks an food he could take our order an sit at the bar. If we just wanted food you go around the corner basically the end of the bar to the Kitchen window mmmm okay. So the menu looked great we had a few questions . The young lady taking our order should be trained better on the food menu she wasn't very knowledgeable:( We sat down an taking in the open space an you can see the golf course , out door seating area. We ordered the Phatty Melt aka patty melt lol You can order single or double patty, I ordered single , which comes on sour dough bread comes with a side Tater tots. My friend ordered the steak crunch wrap with a side of broccoli slaw. We ordered the beer cheese an pretzels. The beer cheese was amazing it was not your normal cheese looking melted cheese goo with beer flavor. Oh no this was from what I could taste an see either cottage cheese or feta an maybe sharp cheese , cream cheese than they warm it an serve with 2 pretzels. The pretzels were the down fall, they tasted freezer burnt an not fluffy like pretzels are ughh They would be better off with toast points or pita chips. My phatty melt very disappointing the sour dough bread was larger than the patty:( The patty was very small an thin. Wendys has a better single an cheaper burger lol Now my tater tots were very crispy perfect. The crunch wrap was disappointing as well. I guess to hold it together they melt cheese on the back ughh just use butter gives you a nice crisp edge not hard cheese greasy stuck to the back side of the wrap. The wrap had a slaw they make in the wrap kale, Brussel sprouts but it was large pieces would have been better cut smaller. Not alot of meat in the crunch wrap just like the phatty melt. I thought it was pricey for what we had. On the menu its 5 wings maybe a side for 12, you cant beat DD peckers on wings sorry. Here is my opinion if your out for drinks your hungry this will work, your working out next door at crossfit you need a quick bite this will work. For me an my friend its not food we would come back for unless I can get a container of that beer cheese to go lol I think they will do great in Pineville , beer selections look great. This brewery tries very hard to be an authentic beer hall, but they appear to still have some significant growing pains to work out. First up is getting a seat was impossible on a trivia Monday night. Not just difficult to find seating, but the seating that was available was so clustered closely together you couldn't even really interact with tables or friends in a social way. Perhaps creating an open area for guests to mingle outside of the three small cocktail tables near the entrance. Once you realize there's no available seating you look around and head to the bar with a single point of sale for beers. I think a brewery with 20+ taps and a room with over 500 seats at capacity should think through their process for serving the room one person at a time. I would love to provide a review on the food, but as I approached the self ordering kitchen, I was greeted with an employee who shared they were too far behind to take new orders. I tried again 30 minutes later and no luck. I guess the most frustrating part was watching tables and seats all around us slowly getting their food orders. Although, everyone seemed to be complaining with the 1 - 1.5 hour ticket times. I saw over 5 employees in that kitchen, so I think new processes need to be considered for food. Next up, the beer. Their list was pretty impressive/expansive for a newer brewery. I tried the V.3, a hazy lighter IPA, and the Kolsch, one of my girlfriend's favorites. The beer didn't blow us away, but we did appreciate they seem to have a strong brewery program. I've seen a few other posts about the acoustics of this place and thought they were just in the mood for a quieter venue. The way their speakers are set up, no one could hear the trivia guy speaking. Then when the music started back up you couldn't hear the person next to you. Also, playing the same song multiple times in a row was annoying, especially, Maria Carey's All I want for Christmas. ha-ha. I recommend you head over to OMB for a beirgarten/oktoberfest style community beer hall while this place works the kinks out. I think we'll be back this summer to check out the vibe when they have the patios open, the kinks are worked out, and I can grab a bucket of golf balls between beers. read more

Stopped for a few beers and some appetizers while we were out wasting some time before the super bowl started. Great choice. They have lots of choices in beer, and a couple ciders. I was surprised how good the Cinammon Sweet Potato beer was. I don't like sweet potatoes, but that isn't the taste I got at all. The beer is different, and actually very good. Everyone in our party found something they liked. The appetizers we chose, the soft pretzels and the veggie flatbread, were excellent. The space is very nice, both inside and out, and we'll definitely be back to try more beers, and the food menu. read more

We decided to check out Middle James as we had one of their beers at Carowinds - it did not disappoint! They have a variety of beers, all of which we really liked. We went to Middle James Brewing on their opening day for lunch and some beers. Not bad bur it looks like they have some work to do on getting organized and improving. We walked in and were unsure of how to proceed. Because it was opening day, we thought there might be a hostess to welcome patrons or at least someone (or even a sign) to help guide people through the process of ordering food. After standing looking around for a few minutes we realized it was 'seat yourselves' so we sat at a table and waited and watched, and waited. Then we noticed the servers were not taking any orders and that people going up to a window to order. So we walked up to the window and they gave you a lunch menu, told us to come back to order and they would give us a number and the food with them they bought it to our table. For lunch, I ordered the double Phatty Melt. It was pretty good though quite dry. Oddly, one patty was cooked medium while the second was cooked well done. My wife had the Sammy which was disappointing as the meat did not taste like corned beef and was also very dry. She could only eat half of it as she said it 'wasn't worth the calories. Both sandwiches were very skimpy on their comeback sauce. My son had the Dave. The fried chicken breast was quite large, crisp, and not greasy. However, like the other two sandwiches it was also very dry and all the spices seem to be with the pickles or whatever sauce was on it because it all sort of fell off the sandwich. As an appetizer we ordered the Pulled Duck Totchos, the best food of the afternoon; They were great! Portion size were large, they were served hot, not greasy and the duck confit was very good. Considering those three items totaled $40, for the quality or the food, Middle James Brewing is a poor value. As far as the atmosphere the place is quite austere and almost has an industrial feeling. I think we counted 23 TV screens but oddly they were all tuned to the same channel. Maybe in the future they will show different sports on different screens. The interior features cement floors, metal tables and chairs, and bare walls make for a very loud environment. My sound meter measured 87 dbs, or about as loud as a lawnmower! Thus, Conversation inside was nearly impossible. The outside deck was nice. The netting provided some light shade but the tray along the outside rail gets very hot in the sun. Hot enough to burn your arm (or take the cold right off your beer in just a few minutes). The three of us judged their beers to be average overall. Some were good and some disappointing, but we also realize that's a personal preference. One thing that drove us mad is that their 10-ounce pours are in what looks like 16-ounce glasses and a 10-ounce pour looks like you could be either getting 9, 10 or 11 ounces as they were different each time. Hopefully they will be a little bit more consistent as the bartenders get more experience. read more

Tonight was my first time at Middle James. Me and my family had a great time. We came for the Avengers trivia but the food and beer were highlights. The lines for beer and food were marked and easy to follow. Your tab carried over from each line. Good prices on both. Good portions. The food was done by numbered tables. Came out the kitchen quick. My only recommendation for trivia with that many teams participating would be to find someway to check the answers quicker. Either let the participants check their own answers or get some type of electronic system. With that much business it would be worth it. The only reason I'm giving 3 stars is because the bartender(Just 1) was extremely rude to me. Made an off handed comment about not wanting to make me a flight of 4 4oz. They weren't even busy yet as we arrived 30 minutes early to get good seats. As a first timer at the brewery I wanted to try some of your staples before committing to a large beer. He made me feel like an inconvenience as he huffed and puffed behind the bar. Rolling his eyes like he was mixing drinks or something. I spent a lot of money on sushi and other items. We ordered The Beast and the Reuben through a delivery service. The chicken on the Beast was burnt and was served on the incorrect bread. One side of the Reuben was burnt. We were unable to eat either sandwich. The reason I'm giving them 2 stars and not 1 is that we do enjoy their beer. read more

He introduced me to the brewery, listened to my preferences and matched my flight to what he thought I'd like. Excellent service! However, once his shift ended and he left. I was never served again. Great selection of beers, specifically ipas. I had 2 different hazy's and they were both very good. For food I had the superfood salad, which was fresh and filling- would definitely get again. Most of these reviews for the most part are ridiculous. They're a new brewery. Of course they're going to have kinks to work out. But that doesn't make it a 2/3 star brewery. They have good food and good beer. What else could you ask for? I think they should put more outside activities. Like hammocks or corn hole. And some sort of shade in the lawn area outside. I was visiting in town with a larger group and wanted a place to just hang out and catch up with old friends, and this place was perfect. Lots of different beers for all different tastes, ciders, and snacks! I tried the highly dramatic volume 1 and 2 for you IPA fans - I liked one way more than the other (I think I preferred volume 1) - I can't remember, but one was too sweet for me. The bartenders were great - there were a couple times they were MIA in the back or who knows where else - leading to some impromptu bonding while waiting to order beers. My fiance and I went on their opening weekend, so it was really busy. I was hoping to really like this place since it's the only brewery in Pineville. I was a little disappointed though (not in the beer). The parking situation is a little odd, the entrance of the brewery is at the back of the building and the parking is limited when they're busy. Once inside, it seemed a little chaotic, wasn't sure if it was because it was opening weekend or what. Once we got our beer ordered we tried to find a place to put ourselves, all the tables were full and we walked outside, all the tables were full, so we stood and looked out onto the driving range that's across from the brewery. This was fine with me since it was so loud inside, yes I know, it's a brewery, not a monastery, you expect talking and noise, but the talking seemed amplified to me, maybe they could work on the acoustics a little. This may seem a little petty, but atmosphere does matter to me. I ordered the Squatch Berry Hefeweizen, it was really good and my fiance liked his beer too although I can't remember what he got. I would probably go back because of the beer and the food looked good although we didn't eat there on this visit, but I will go when there's not so much of a crowd. The beer gets 5 stars, everything else I would give 3.5 stars, so if youre going for good beer I would recommend. read more

The staff is knowledgeable and willing to listen to you. When you come in you're greeted with a bartender. You order at two stations and if you want to get food it's around the corner and it's like a food truck style. It's not a restaurant, it's a brewery that serves food. Finally a great brewery laid out for the sports fan! Went during opening weekend and back again this weekend (Labor Day Holiday) for seconds. Yes, first weekend was a little loud -- apparently everyone in Charlotte was equally excited for a new brewery opening -- but it wasn't anything I didn't expect. Definitely nothing to turn me off or prohibit me coming back based on two other factors: Beer: 5/5 stars for me. Tried Squatch Berry (best beer I've had this year), Fly Kid (Kolsch), and Holy Bananas (Hefe). All came in a "generous pour" and exceeded expectations for a first-run at a new brewery. Can't wait to try the balance of MJB selections. Food: Hard to believe Brewery food might actually steal the show, but everything we had was delicious. We always go Appetizer-heavy with two kids -- so doubled down on the Duck Totchos and MJB Poutine. Both were enormous portions that were devoured quickly. Patty Melt and The Dave for main courses -- same deal as the apps; great size and we left completely full / satisfied. I have a sneaking suspicion this place is going to crush it, and I'm sure it will end up on our list of "regular haunts" for the foreseeable future! read more

I don't live in Pineville, but, now that They are open, This is my favorite brewery in Charlotte. The beers are all amazing! I am not a beer snob, I just like good tasting beer and everyone hit the mark with me. Oh and they have lots of tvs and sports on (no other brewery has this vibe). Oh and they have a large outdoor patio out back. Food - wow!! I have now tried 3/4 of the menu and it was all fantastic!! Staff- friendly, quick and knowledgeable. Pineville finally has a brew pub. Very good selection of beers and ciders and also ginger beer. They also have a food area with really fun different selections of cuisine. It's someplace you need to come and check out. They're even having a bridal shower when we were there. Loved the beer! Had a variety and liked them all. We came for Wednesday night sushi, the sushi was surprisingly really good for not being a sushi place and the roll sizes were a great. The rolls were a bit expensive, but most of their food menu is in my opinion. The sushi did take about 45 minutes to come out but I would bet that was because it was their first night doing sushi. The brewery itself could use some decor, there is not much personality to the space besides a bunch of TVs.
