I've started coming in here to watch football and for drinks on the weekends. They have daily specials that can be a hit or miss. I really did enjoy their pizza and found it to be superior to other pizza joints in the area. Their Bee Sting wings are fantastic and sometimes they have them on special for $1 a piece. The Rusty Onion appetizer is unique but delicious. Give them a try when you're in the area or even make a special trip. The bartender and staff are very friendly and attentive. They have a touch tunes juke box and I wasn't happy that when we would play music on it, the owner would skip through the songs if he didn't like it. I didn't appreciate that as I had paid money to hear the music. At least refund what I paid if you don't want it to play in your restaurant. (To clarify, the music didn't have any bad words. It just didn't fit their Billy Joel and Jimmy Buffet vibe) I am looking forward to going back for $1 wings. You can check their website or app for their daily specials. read more

My work team and I went to The Rusty Onion for a weekday lunch around 11:30 AM, right after they opened. We were actually the first people there. It was cold outside, but it was even colder inside the restaurant, to the point where it felt like sitting in a freezer. It honestly made it hard to relax and enjoy the meal. Food-wise, we ordered a variety of items. Some people got pita dishes, others ordered pasta and pizza. One person really liked the eggplant spaghetti, while another didn't care for the sauce, so opinions were mixed. A few people did enjoy their pizzas. I ordered a Greek salad with blackened chicken. I'd rate it about a 5 out of 10, very mid. The salad included cranberries, which was an interesting addition. Not bad, just unexpected. The blackened chicken didn't seem well-seasoned, so it wasn't very impressive overall. On a positive note, the service was good. Our server was friendly and attentive, and I didn't have any issues there. Parking was also plentiful and easy, which is always a plus. Overall, the biggest issue for me was how cold the restaurant was. It was so uncomfortable that it really affected my experience. We might go back again as a group at some point, but I wouldn't go back on my own, and definitely not unless it's warmer inside. read more

Close to home, started coming here to watch Football games. They serve Coke products AND HAVE COKE ZERO (always a plus in my book) the staff is pretty friendly and their food is pretty good. I have been here with each of my older kids and my oldest daughter just finished her game and we were only 5 miles away. Came in and requested a high top in an empty restaurant and I guess I was putting out the hostess based on the way she sat the menus on the table. Strike 1! The waitress came and brought drinks then came back 3 minutes later while we were talking and asked if we were ready like she was in a hurry! Strike 2! After 10 minutes of sitting with Menus and we were ready to order I was glancing around the restaurant and the lady behind the bar, "Do you guys need something?" I said, "we are ready to order when our waitress is ready" so the gnarly bartender decided to drag her attitude and her carcass from behind the bar and take our order. This place was great the last 2 times! This time with the whole family they fell on their face! Strike 3! The bartender lady with the condescending tone definitely should not be the face of this place. You have to have horrible for me to give a single star for service alone and I have not eaten a thing yet! I added this place to my CLT collection a while ago and depending how the food and remaining service is, I may remove them from my collection. Food was good. Not great, but good. I love the Rusty Onion. I've been coming here for years at this point. The portions are always generous and they don't skimp on more premium ingredients like bacon and avocado. I usually have to take my leftovers home and I'm a big eater. All the staff I've spoken to are awesome. Kristen is my favorite server, it's always so lovely to see her. The building itself is comfortable and clean, with both indoor and outdoor seating. The bathroom is not really wheelchair accessible, you may have issues fitting a chair through the door to the outdoor seating, but if you can pull the front door open or have help you can absolutely get inside and sit comfortably read more

Why didn't I know about this spot earlier? The fries alone are worth going for. The cheese fries are worth slapping your Mama. The Cheese Sauce and hand cut fries that make this Amazing and Ohhhh the Bacon. My husband, a New Yorker said the Italian Sub could have been the best one he's ever had. So far so good, my wife wanted to have lunch somewhere and the name I threw out was The Rusty Onion. We'd never been here which is surprising considering it's just down the road from our house. We could seat ourselves and chose a split bench table. My wife ordered the bacon/cheese fries. I ordered the portobello pie with a side Caesar salad. The Caesar salad was delicious! It had shaved Parmesan cheese and a delicious dressing. I cleaned the plate. The Portobello Pie was really tasty too. That's saying something for me because my senses of taste and smell have still not returned after covid. My wife's bacon and cheese fries were really good too. She ate about half of them. I ate another quarter of the dish. The fries were cooked just right, not oily or greasy. Another Yelper had referred to them as being so good that you'd slap yo Momma. They are that good. I'd order a plate of them and sample their beers next time. All in all it was a great experience, we'll be back. read more

Our out-of-state son and family were visiting, so there were 10 of us looking for a dinner location. We left that decision to the sons as they were more attuned to the idiosyncrasies of their children. We landed at The Rusty Onion. We have our Chinese food and do shopping in this shopping center, but had never been to the Rusty Onion before. It turned out to be a good choice. A very excellent menu that surely everyone or anybody could find some food to satisfy them. It appeared to be a sports bar type of layout, with a large bar amid lots of tables. Taylor was our wait person and she was patient and did an excellent job. Most of the adults had beer, either draft or bottled. A good number of drafts to choose from ($7.50 and $9 for bottles and $6.50 for drafts). There is a good kids menu covering grilled cheese, burgers, small pizzas and pastas. The regular manu had a variety of pizzas and we had a 10" Bianca cheese pizza (12.95) with added sausage ($2), a 14" Carnivore meat pizza (21) and a 10"Supreme pizza ($16). All were very good and were more thin than breadish, as we prefer. One gyro w/fries ($12.50), a small Greek salad ($9.95) brought it all around with the kid's orders to $177.85. Bought a house and drove 40 minutes to my home away from home- for the pizza, the service and the atmosphere. My happy place for a year now and it never disappoints. Great drink specials, amazing food, and casual atmosphere that's so darn welcoming. My pizza fave is the Eye-Talian Stallion. Artichokes, olives, bacon, white sauce base, garlic and stuff is just the perfect blend of ingredients for a scrumptious slice! Pepperoni and mozzarella is my husbands go to and they have lots of options for create your own. Definitely try it if you haven't - we have been to a dozen places in the last two months that say they have the best pizza around and it's not half as good. My husband heartily agrees. First time picking up from here -- kind of a long wait from ordering to actually getting the food. I ordered the California Chicken sandwich and it was grilled and covered with pepper jack cheese and avocado spread . It was a nice size and a nice piece of chicken in it. The House cut fries were limp and reheated. My friend had the BBQ Bacon Chicken sandwich, he liked his and had Sweet potato fries which were good he said . My first restaurant review of 2023 and man I can't say I'm disappointed, our Server tonight was Evan he is the owner's son and was helping out tremendously with the short staff this night. Hard work is admirable in this day and age it's good to see North Carolina has a backbone. Tonight my wife and I feasted on Eggplant Parmesan with spaghetti,Hot Italian Sub with sweet potato fries,the kids enjoyed their 18" Pizza Pie half cheese half pepperoni and also mozzarella sticks the kids loved it. Small but cozy bar, with absolutely amazing food tucked away. Been coming here for years, and the biggest thing I love is the consistency. In every aspect, never had bad service, nor bad food. I've tried most of the menu and it's all been great. Their pizzas are great, wings are nice and meaty with a good crisp skin. Chicken sandwiches, pasta, you name it and they do it well. I can actually tell that they use fresh ingredients, and do so with care. Owners are always present and involved which I love seeing. I can't say enough. read more

First of all I have to say that Phil was super great as our server tonight. He was helpful, attentive and extremely knowledgeable about the beer selection and food choices. I really like the fact that the bar area was a good distance from the main dining area and they even have a heated patio if so desired. This offers a helpful distance between the bar area and dining area if you care. As far as the food and drinks, I would liken this place to the Pizza Peel. Very similar experience. We started off with the fried pickles which were a nice change from the usual in that they were "shoestring" style and came with not only a ranch dipping sauce but also an aioli. They would be even better with a little heat with some cayenne pepper in the batter. I had the carnivore pizza. Tasty but it needed more sauce. Good beer selection but as with the pizza peel, they need at least one beer special every night. They also need to offer a 20 or 22 oz. option instead of just the pint or in the case of my triple c, a goblet. These additions would easily bring the rusty onion up to five stars. read more

Tried this place out for a second time. My neighbors love this place and wanted to get some pizza to go. Delivery was about 45 mins, not bad at all. We got a classic cheese pizza and it was delicious. It wasn't greasy and had the right amount of cheese. We also tried something different- the Italian stallion. We've been to the restaurant only 4 times. We finally found "our" restaurant. Today we went to the restaurant....my husband ordered the meatball sandwich. When it arrived, the meatballs were so dry and they appeared to be not fresh. My husband couldn't even eat the sandwich. The owner came over and she defended the cook. She was nice, but she didnt comp my husband's meal! My husband grew up in the restaurant industry so her first mistake was not comping the meal. The Rusty Onion has become a new favorite of ours, until today. Ordering our favorite pizza, light sauce and pepperoni, the pizza arrived without any sauce at all. Our server was kind enough to return it to the kitchen to have it redone. Much to our surprise the owner Jimmy came over and proceeded to tell us what we received was in fact "light sauce" and if we wanted they could "plop" some sauce on top or we could have a dish to "dip our pizza". When we repeated we asked for light sauce and we received NO sauce, he proceeded to tell us we got exactly what we ordered and they will not do anything further to accommodate our request, they would not remake it or take it off the bill. Jimmy tried to explain they put 4oz of sauce on a large and what we received was 2 oz. Not trying to tell anyone how to run their business however coming with a food background and being a restaurant owner myself, this was handled completely wrong with the disrespect and complete lack of any understanding, especially from an owner. It is beyond appalling. We had a simple request, which has been accommodated before, for some reason Jimmy decided to show his ass today. I hope the profit margin in a pizza makes up for the loss of a loyal patron If I could give zero stars, I would. read more

First, my wife's wine was so bad that she couldn't drink it. She asked the server for a beer instead and they just left the crappy wine in front of her for the whole meal. I ordered 12 BBQ wings figuring "lunch tomorrow!" The wings came out black - so incredibly overdone. I tried to eat them but just too dry. I pushed them to the other side of the table - I ate 3 out of 12. The owner comes over and asks "what's wrong with the wings?" I said, "nothing - it's fine. This is good beer." But he keeps pushing and says, "what's wrong with the wings?" So I tell him, "well, these wings are very overdone. I can't eat them." He starts to tell me, very loudly, "This is how we need to do them! This is how the health department MAKES US MAKE THEM!" Now, I'm getting pissy and a bit embarrassed. "No, these are not cooked, these are overcooked. They are burnt. Look at them - black." He picks up the least black one and starts thumbing through it and loudly saying, "what's wrong with this? Seems fine!" Now everybody in the restaurant is looking at me and my wife. I say, "Nevermind, it's fine." I don't want this to continue. But he keeps lecturing loudly about the fine art of burning a chicken wing. There is barbecue sauce and pieces of chicken all over our table and the guy won't stop telling me that these are good wings are good... Then the server was afraid to get involved and didn't bring our check and we just sat there in the awkwardness for 30 more minutes. We were consoled by people around us who agreed - "the wings were really burnt!" and "not good!" Wow. read more
