Came here on a double date and had so much fun apple picking! Easy parking on the grass right next to the field. Didn't have to walk far at all. We were greeted by friendly staff who explained to us the layout of the orchard and how much everything cost. There were so many options and we even tasted some apples while we walked around. They also had a free corn maze when we went. There were also lots of pumpkins to pick from the field. Or, they had some nice ones already picked and lined up by the checkout area. They also had raspberry picking but it was pretty scarce when we went so we only got apples. Definitely a great place to take photos too! Highly recommend!

We had fun plucking zennias ($.50 each) and wanted to see the sunflowers but did not get a chance to since we saw lightning. Within ten minutes of seeing lightning, a heavy thunderstorm began, which we waited out in the cidery, which is in a large barn. There were three bathrooms and a shared sink. There were also lots of snacks, ciders and spirits available for purchase. You could even buy crackers / cheeses / meats to make your own charcuterie board! It looked like there was a private event while we were there as well as another private event in the evening. I only tried the Kitchen Sink cider which I honestly didn't like at all, but at least the packaging was nice! I also have to give a shout out to the people working at the stand near the parking lot for giving me a free sunflower stem since I didn't get a chance to pick one!

As I was held at check-out inside the building, an unnamed woman with no identification confronted me in an accusatory manner demanding to know what else we had picked. I told her everything we picked was on the counter. She asked what was in my car. I told her my patient, his rollator, and his mobility scooter. Not much else fits in a little KIA. She left me inside the building at the register and went out to my car. With no explanation to my startled patient, she began rooting through my car. He was alone and felt defenseless in a frightening situation. I don't know if I'll ever be able to get him to leave his house again for an outing like this. He is traumatized. Columbia County NY has many PYO options that are more friendly and less terrifying than this horrible place.

We discovered them recently on our drive to dinner at the Cock 'n' Bull restaurant. The farm planted their blueberry bushes in 2013 and had their first harvest in 2018. We learned this while talking to the friendly wife of the owning family. They are set back in from Galway Rd, just east of the Galway traffic light. Look for the sign on their truly classic, white (fire?)truck at the edge of their driveway. They have a small retail stand from which you can arrange to pick your own blueberries or purchase pints and quarts of berries freshly picked that morning. They also sell pies from Smith's Orchard, cookies and doughnuts from someplace that I didn't get the name of, girl scout cookies, jewelry, maple syrup, and certainly several other items that I didn't take note of. Besides being a really nice place to stop by, the blueberries are delicious! Large, ripe, flavorful berries, no comparison to the ones coming from New Jersey or from far-off countries and currently available in any supermarket. Their pickers also do an excellent job of removing the stems from each berry. While I can't speak for the picking experience, they expect to be open through August. You may want to go and pick your own.

After filling a bag we ran into John as he was picking some Crab Apples. A half hour later and we had discussed everything from the chemical reaction that makes some apples sweeter than others, to his families history and what brought them to the area, to why planting a seed that you got from an apples, isn't necessarily going to produce an apples tree that produces apples that taste like the apple it came from (mind blown!). My son really fed off of John's excitement which was awesome to see. What if you don't run into John? You've still ended up at the best orchard within a 100 miles. I've been apple picking in the Hudson Valley for over 20 years. You see the same 4-5 variations of apples. However, once you see all of the variations that Wightman has, you'll feel cheated by the limited options at other orchards.

They also sell freshly picked grapes, house made apple cider donuts (mini!), bottled apple cider, and apple chips. You are lucky if you get a chance to talk with John or Zachary Wightman-- they are pomologists filled with apple picking knowledge! There really is so much science behind it all, which was fascinating to learn. Thank you to the Wightman family for opening this farm to the public for picking, we had a blast! CC

Many years later they have so much more to offer - several varieties of fresh coffee, fresh warm pies, a huge selection of jarred items such as honey, pickles, olives, jams and jellies, a variety of craft beers and ciders made on site, Danishes, cookies, and other pastries for purchase, clothing and other merchandise, a large produce area with some of the most beautiful fruits and veggies available, a separate building dedicated to just apple varieties, and a large event hall at the back end of the property near their brewery. This place is pretty awesome. Something else to note is that when we arrived, they were setting up for Oktoberfest, so if you don't have any plans for Oktoberfest next year this would be an exceptional venue to share in the celebration. I have to say that it is a little pricy, much more expensive than I remember but we are living in different times now. We purchased one of the warm peach pies and it was exquisite. I even had a piece with my breakfast the next morning, I couldn't get enough, but it was about $25. Three donuts and two coffees cost us $17.55, which is a bit overkill but we wanted to enjoy in the moment. We also purchased a jar of peach jelly Togo and that was about $8. This is a great place to take a friend or date in the afternoon or for an event. There are several walking trails available and the property is gorgeous as you have a great view of the Catskill Mountains. There are several places where you can just sit around and chat for a while and they have their own pub and eatery under the main store. Additionally, there are some livestock chilling on the property and a small petting area where the kids can feed goats, chickens and any other creature wandering around. All-in-all, we had a great time while visiting and would definitely come back next time we are in NY.
