This is a nice little shop. Very clean and the help were very nice. They have a fairly large cheese selection for it being a little shop. They also have a deli where you can buy lunch meat to take home or they will make you a sandwich. I noticed they are also bringing in Amish jams and jelly's as well. The cheese I picked out was moldy despite not expiring for another half a year. I put it back. I brought an elderly disabled veteran who was exited about their sandwiches..... he almost fell over from the wait. Customers were concerned, the staff didn't care. They took forever to make 2 sandwiches for the lady in front of us and the cashier was incredibly slow. I found the old man hanging against the glass looking afraid and in pain. They did not care. I had to send him out to sit. They were out of almost all their deli meats so I didn't get anything despite driving 40 minutes. read more

1/27/2025 My wife's sister always sends me a package of cheese and jams for my Christmas present every year for the past probably 25 years or more. Probably is more than that. Love the cheese and Red Raspberry Jam. Have had some problems over the years but I guess that's to be expected with the way the world is going now days. So, I received my package this past year and the cheese is great. As I still had some of the jam left from my last package, we just put these jams, three jars, on a shelf in the pantry for now. Even left them in the plastic bubble wrap. So Sunday, 1/26/2025, I needed some jam and when I went to open up the bubble wrap the jam was all over inside of the wrap. Find out that the lid was not even tight like it should be to be sealed under pressure. This happened for all three jams that I had received. My wife called this morning to complain about what happened at phone number 440-632-5567. After being put on hold forever she hung up and called back and got the same person named Clara. After my wife explained what happened she never apologize or offered to do something for us. My wife had to ask her what can you do for us. Clara checked and said there was no more of the jam in stock and would we want to wait for a shipment to come in. Seeing how the new jam might be in the same condition my wife said no but can you substitute cheese for us and she said yes we can do that. Clara didn't want the bar codes on the jam bottles so as to maybe have quality control check on there stock to see what happened and not send anymore of the jam out if the lids were not sealed properly. I would have thought she would at least want to notify the company that makes the jam if they don't do it there. Rick B read more

I buy products from Middlefield Cheese Co-op. I order by phone and have it shipped to me in Kansas. I wish I could travel there to shop in person and meet the nice people who take my orders. I would have no trouble walking in there without a mask. I, too, believe God will take care of me. We all have a right to our beliefs. If you are uncomfortable there, don't go. This is a pandemic review from a long time customer who has very much enjoyed their local cheeses for decades. Today I came into the coop with a mask, knowing that some places in Amish country may not be following health directives, but i wanted to see if this long-time haunt of mine could be supported during the pandemic. I came in, looked around, and found no employees wearing masks -- not the slicers, not the cashiers. I walked out. My wife encouraged me to say something, so i went back in and talked to the manager, from a distance, who heard me out very politely but acted as if she were surprised that anyone would be concerned about their employees serving customers without being masked. If you have health concerns, I am very sorry to say it is best not to go here. It is, I suppose, their privilege not to believe in the pandemic, but those of us at risk need to stay away for now. (Note that i was very happy with my next nearby stop in Middlefield, where everyone was masked.) read more

Stop by the next time you're in Middlefield. This place has an impressive variety of cheeses at very good prices, and you can get a nice view of their production floor while you're in line. They have excellent sandwiches that are basic, but huge, as in 1/4 pound of meat huge. Price for that sammie, about $4 with cheese, lettuce and tomato. Nothing fancy goin in here, but try it out. Might bring back memories from your childhood when you made your first sandwiches. It did for me anyway. read more

I love cheese and I love Middlefield Cheese the best. Seriously... In a factory that has grown leaps and bounds over the past ten years, this shop has some of the best cheese money can buy, and based on there prices you are getting lots of cheese ! The shop has a wide variety of locally produced baked goods, and hard to find imported food from around the world. The star here is the cheese though they have all varieties, with delicious swiss being the most popular, then several types of cheddar, co-jack and Parmesan to round it out. Cheese goes on sale weekly, that rotates so you can get the cheese you want for even cheaper if you call ahead and ask what the specials are. When I went last time they had pizza cheese on sale which was an American Cheese filled with spices and herbs that made it taste like you were eating pizza. Amazing ! They also have sandwiches that are really nicely priced for example: Several slices of fresh ham, and swiss cheese, on a delicious fresh bread with mustard for 1.99 ! Middlefield Cheese also has a wide range of meats that you can order by the pound that they will slice anyway you want for you. The only down side to this store is that it can get a bit busy, with lots of people coming from far around to get there products, don't be surprised to wait up to 20 mins in line to get to check out. The review by Brian D above is a review of Middlefield Cheese Chalet Shop where the cheese is made by Swiss methods , NOT the Middlefield Cheese Co-op which is mostly Amish owned & run located on Kinsman Road (Rte 87) The Middlefield Cheese Co-op is a wonderful mostly Amish co-op where they make cheeses with hormone free milk in the traditional vat method. You can see cheeses being made during the week. Be aware the cheese you buy here is fresh and has a shorter lifespan than the cheese made at the Cheese Chalet or that you buy at the grocery store. It is also less expensive. We do buy cheeses from both places when we go to Middlefield, but if I had to choose only one, the Cheese Co-op would be the one I would for their fresher more natural cheeses. They also have a Farmers Market in front of the Co-op during the growing season with fresh veggies & baked goods by Amish families on Saturdays. read more

Just returned from a visit there. I love cheese and this store has everything. The prices are about a third of what I normally pay for cheese and all samples I tried were great. If you want to see the cheese being made go before 11 am. In addition to cheese they also have great prices on locally made maple syrup, homemade noodles, and meat. I purchased a 1 lb bag of roast beef for $1.00, Shipping fees were unbelievably inexpensive ( shipped approximately 30 lbs of cheese, 10 pints of maple syrup and other lighter weight items cold packed UPS for $18.00.)
