I had a great experience here with my hamster. They were very quick and it wasn't a long wait. The nurse and doctor were so kind and nice. My son's pet hedgehog had what looked like an abscess under their eye and we found that this is closest veterinarian that can help with hedgehogs. We drove about half an hour to get there and were taken within about 10 min. They were very friendly and caring. They said this would just be a consult but they were able to lightly sedate our hedgehog and lance it and saw it was just an abscess and nothing worse atleast and they drained it and gave us antibiotics. I am happy they were able to do this and put our minds at ease. read more

If I could give them more stars I would! My Yorkie Niko has been coming here his entire life now. It's been almost 15 years and they have always been there. From last minute emergency visits to annual checks. They are the sweetest people EVER! The entire team does such a great job. Not only do they care for your pets, but they listen to all my stories and concerns. This team goes above and beyond for their patients and it really shows. I've dealt mainly with Dr. Curro and Dr. Yurkus both phenomenal Vets! I honestly can't say enough good things about them. From their customer service with me and the care for my baby boy Niko, who has been having an extremely difficult time as of late. I will drive 30+ mins every time in order to receive their care (whenever necessary). Being Covid, it's much more difficult not being able to go inside, but they give me such peace of mind. My Second attempt at finding a Local Vet: I have a little Tabby who visits my backyard and one day last week I noticed that he was limping. I thought he had a broken front paw. I trapped him and brought him to the Spay and Neuter Clinic in Holmdel as I was hoping to have him neutered as well. (Trap and Release). Unfortunately, they only Spay and Neuter at this clinic. (Hence, the name!!) They are wonderful there and do fabulous work. I have used them many times for trap and Release. Staff is wonderful as well. I was directed to either Middletown Animal Hospital. Or Bayshore Veterinary Hospital As I was traveling south on Route 35 I went to Middletown Animal Hospital. Big Mistake!!!! They were able to see us right away. As, I was waiting for the vet. There was a man waiting with his young female boxer, who had a recent surgery. The owner was concerned as the boxer had been lethargic the day before, even though she was quite active now. As the Veterinarian entered the clinic, the technician explained the boxer's owners concerns. The Veterinarian began to holler at the technician, stating that he wasn't seeing anyone. He was not on duty until 12 noon and at that time he was going on a conference call. It was about 11:45am. Unprofessional!!!! Everyone could hear him. I'm assuming he realized his behavior and saw the boxer, a few minutes later. I was then called into another exam room. I explained that his was a feral stray that visits me on occasion and that today he was limping. I expressed I wanted to have him neutered as well. Though he was calm at first, the stray was not easy to manage and had to be sedated to be evacuated. Before they would do anything I had to sign that I was willing to pay a $400 bill. This was for Rabies shots, antibiotics, wellness check, and the sedative. As I was about to drive away, I thought while he was under the sedative that he should be castrated. I returned to inquire about adding that service to the bill. The staff returned with the updated bill it was now $336. I asked why it was cheaper. Tracey informed me that the sedative was free with the castration. They knew I wanted him neutered and wanted me to return to have that done. All for an extra cost. if I could leave no stars I would. I have been going here for years, but never again. I won't be returning. I always found them to be expensive, but after my last visit I couldn't believe what they charged me. My dog had an exam, was given medication for an ear infection and anxiety, was given flea and tick and heart worm medication, and had blood work done. I was dumbfounded when the bill came to $777. That is highway robbery. They seem to care more about robbing people blind than they do about animals. I will be looking for a new vet who doesn't charge and arm and a leg. read more

My experience with the staff and drs has been largely negative. The drs are knowledgeable however they and their staff lack compassion, have poor communication, overuse medications and push to euthanasia (very expensive btw). They are dictatorial in their treatment of your pet (a lack of respect for how well you know your animal). I have tried them for several pets and they have been hit or miss. We brought our 6 month old puppy in for a check up and Dr. Hernandez was amazing. Because of Covid, we couldn't go inside but she was thorough and full of answers when we spoke to her. I honestly wish I didn't have to even give this place a star. Look, I had a horrible experience and I honestly hope that no one else has to go through what my family and I had to deal with. My dog was diagnosed with two cancerous brain tumors a little over a month ago (by a neurologist, not Middletown Animal Hospital). Soon after that, it was very difficult to see my dog continue to walk around in circle and get scared because he didn't know where he was or what he was doing. We didn't that he wasn't living the best quality of life and after 11 amazing years with this dog, we decided the right thing to do was to have him go to "Doggy Heaven". I wish it didn't have to be that way, but that was what had to be done. We wanted a private cremation and a paw print, for rememberance. After one of the worst nights of my life, we went home and trusted these people to do their jobs. A couple weeks later, we got a phone call stating that his ashes were ready for pick up. There was something missing, can you guess what that was? HIS PAW PRINT. The last thing we would have of him. The only reason we have a problem with this is because, how hard is it to remember a paw print during a PRIVATE cremation? He was obviously not given a crap about and was just thrown in with the rest of the animals being cremated that night. I WILL NEVER COME HERE AGAIN AND I HOPE EVERYONE WHO READS THIS WITHDRAWLS THEIR ANIMALS FILES AND HOPES THAT WHEN THE TIME COMES TO PUT THE ANIMAL UP IN HEAVEN THEY DO IT ELSEWHERE. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Middletown Animal Hospital! The thing I didn't like about my old animal hospital, and the reason why I switched all of my animals over to Middletown, was every time I would find a doctor that I liked and tried to develop a relationship with them they would leave the practice. I felt like I was always stuck at square one introducing myself and my pets to new doctors and vet techs. Going to Middletown is like a night and day experience! You and your pets are always treated like family. The entire staff is friendly and knowledgeble from the front desk, to the vet techs, to the doctors.The doctors and techs are always very clear and honest about what they're doing and giving you all of the information. You never feel like they're just running random tests or giving unnecessary vaccines just to run up your bill. During your appointment they spend time with you, ask questions, listen to your stories, share their own stories; you never feel like you're being rushed in or out of your appointment. They really take the time to get to know you and your animals and make sure you are comfortable and happy with the care you're getting. The front desk is great about sending reminders when its time to make an appointment and I've never had trouble getting in quickly for an appointment. They send me happy birthday emails with coupons for all of my animals on their birthdays and a thank you note after you visit them. It may seem like such small things but those personal touches are just part of what makes Middletown feel like family. Don't ever visit this vet office. They are extremely unprofessional. I brought my cat here when he was very sick and most likely was going to need help going to the rainbow bridge. The vet tech was extremely unprofessional from start to finish. Dr. Yurkus was extremely crass and very uncaring. He just starting giving me prices if I wanted to keep my cat there at the hospital to try and get him better. It was all about the money. He didn't give me time to discuss with my husband just stood in the room staring at me while I was trying to make a decision. "Pharma Bro" has nothing on this crew! We have been using this practice for a couple years for our dog and cat. Their prices are high relative to other vets we've used but they are nearby so we accepted the added costs. Until today! Our cat was limping and the vet provided a single package for pain with 3 pills for $31.55. I searched the internet and found that the retail price for the identical 3-pack is $8-8.50 per PACK, not per pill. When I went back to ask them to correct their overcharge, the staff was rude and said "That's the online price" and "We didn't overcharge, that's our price!". I returned home and looked at their own webpage that sells these same 3-pill packets for $12.95 with free shipping! I don't mind them marking up the retail price but 400% above RETAIL is petty larceny! read more

The statement in question was "declawing of cats is no more painful then a neuter", really? I have no reason to write this review other than with the hope that I can prevent someone from patronizing this insensitive "Beverly Hills in New Jersey", pricey place. I don't like being the 'bad guy' but dammit, someone needs to (say) write it: Grooming Salon aside, this place is VERY clean. That's the ONLY good thing I have to write about it. The veterinarians are very standoffish in general, with the exception of the Asian female doctor and the younger, handsome dark haired vet whose names I cannot remember. Both of them were patient, attentive and answered all questions, etc. I've seen several of the different vets there. It's like they can hardly wait to get the heck out of the exam room because there's a good TV show on in the back room. Despite what the only other reviewer wrote, this group IS the MOST expensive veteranian hospital I have EVER used anywhere, and I've lived all over this country! Now, granted this is a very wealthy area to live in, but not all who live here are "RICH". I have five dogs, two cats and birds too. I wanted to like this place, because their location is SO convenient, but I just can't. As a whole, this practice sucks, and they are the quintessential rip offs cost-wise. The flea medicines they readily sold me for the last five years have now been replaced by a newer ridiculously more expensive brand which cost almost $100 for a three month supply for EACH ANIMAL. When I asked why they stopped selling the other brands I was told "Because they don't work" ... Really? Then why were you selling them to me (also for hopped up prices) for the last six years? Could it be because those very same previous medications are now available over the counter, and they can't make any profit now? I called ahead to get approximate costs for my dogs. and cats' HEALTHY annual visits, and when all was said and done, I walked away feeling ignored, disrespected and ripped off. What I ended up paying was literally more than THREE TIMES their phone quote. Also, before you leave, carefully check your invoice. I almost fainted when I was handed mine, and as it turned out the clerk at the register had in fact over charged me on not one, not two, but THREE charges. I pointed the 'boo boos' out to her and she corrected them but without any kind of apology whatsoever. The groomer, "Terry" is horrible. Her salon is messy and disorganized; she groups dogs together in their groom cages regardless of their breeds or the dispositions of the dogs. Apparently she groups them (side by side, next to each other) so as to use one drying hose at a time, maybe to save money, I don't know. She also charged me THREE TIMES as much as any groomer I have EVER taken my dog to, the cost I'm referring to doesn't even include what I usually tip (and I'm a generous tipper, even if I do say so myself.) Another thing about that crappy room they call a grooming salon: I did not appreciate seeing a teensy little Yorkshire terrier next to a larger, hostile, snapping and growling dog. The tiny, timid, scared Yorkie was terrified of both what to him must have looked like a gigantic wind vortex on one side of him and a snarling, snapping-at-his-wire-cage, BEAST on the other side. I mean, ever see how a dog (especially a small breed) or cat acts when you use the vacuum cleaner? So how do you think a three pound Yorkie is going to react to a big, noisy hose that is larger in diameter than the dog is tall, pressed up against the 14" square, inescapable wire cage that tiny dog must surely feel trapped in? And another thing: What's the matter? You guys can't put a towel down or SOMETHING (a piece of card board at least for crying out loud!) for the tiny little fellas to lie or sit on, so their legs are not falling through the bottom of the cage, especially when other dogs adjacent to their cages are seemingly trying to KILL them? My Westie was traumatized for a WEEK. Terry doesn't give a crap. She doesn't have to deal with the traumatized dog after the fact. You do. Hypothetically, after the grooming nightmare, I guess you could take your pet back across to the other side of the clinic, over to the vet and pay another $300 for dog tranquilizers, which believe me, they WILL glady sell you. Terry (the groomer) also does not LISTEN to what/and or how you want her to cut your pet. She pretends to, and then does what she wants, and she does it badly. My dog was not clean, his ears, and face were still dirty, as were his teeth. Three strikes and she is OUT as far as I'm concerned, and so is this practice. Find someplace else to take your animals. If you are taking your animals for booster shots, do your local humane society a favor and patronize them by getting your dogs' vaccinations there. Most ASPCAs and Humane societies have weekly clinics, and you will save a LOT of money (no office visit fees!), AND you help fund/support animals in need. read more

Middletown Animal Hospital is grossly overpriced. My beagle was diagnosed with cancer and was prescribed Prednisone. Middletown Animal Hospital charged me $16.50 for 10 tablets (5mg). I couple days later I went to Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls, NJ for an ultrasound for my dog and GSVS also prescribed me additional tablets of Prednisone. GSVS only charged me $21.00 for 40 tablets (also 5mg). That is $0.525 per tablet compared to $1.65 per tablet at Middletown Animal Hospital, more than 3 times as much! It seems like MAH arbitrarily comes up with their prices for prescriptions. I also decided to look back at my records for anything else fishy. My beagle was also prescribed Amoxicillin for a period of time. On 1/31/11, I was charged $33.50 for 42 tablets (100mg) - $0.798 per tablet. On 2/15/11 (a mere 2 weeks later), I was charged $26.50 for 28 tablets (100mg) - $0.946 per tablet. On 3/5/11, I was charged $75.50 for 126 tablets (100mg) - $0.599 per tablet. On 3/8/12, I was charged $72.50 for 120 tablets (100mg) - $0.604 per tablet. On 4/4/13, I was charged $29.00 for 30 tablets (100mg) - $0.967 per tablet. On 8/21/13, I was charged $35.00 for 42 tablets (100mg) - $0.833 per tablet. As evidenced, there is NO price consistency with MAH. I realize prices may change over time, but the fluctuations are way too haphazard. The receptionists are also not very friendly, especially Tracy. Yes, it is up to me to change vets, but I wanted to warn others as a public service. Be prepared to pay an arm and a leg at Middletown Animal Hospital. Or at the very least, be prepared for inconsistent pricing. read more

I am new to Middletown Animal Hospital and all I can say is, I'm impressed! Our swan recently ate 2 fishing lures that pierced her beak and tongue. We managed to get them out prior to contacting the hospital, but were concerned about infection. Dr. Curro called me back the same afternoon and patiently listened to the story. When I mentioned I would have difficultly bringing her into the clinic, he immediately agreed to come to the house the following morning. He was terrific and came up with a great solution of how to administer antibiotics without actually handling her and causing her any more distress. Two big thumbs up! read more

They are members of our community and do a great deal of volunteer work providing invaluable information to the animal community. They take the time to ask any pertinent Information that could affect the health of your animal during the visit. They will not rush until all questions are answered to your satisfaction. I have been going to this vet since adopting my dog 4 months ago and have been very happy. This is a group practice and I haven't been to all the doctors, so I can't comment on all of them. However, the staff is very helpful and friendly. Dr. Yurkas took his time and was very caring with my girl. As for buying flea preventative, they didn't even try to sell me a prescription brand. They just asked what I using and made a note of it. Same with her dog food. As for prices, I think they're reasonable especially compared with other vets in the area. My mother in law couldn't leave her vet in Old Bridge without spending at least $200 on a routine visit and she would complain about it alot, but it's her problem if she continues going there. I think I was charged $57 for a sick visit at MAH. If you want to save money on prescriptions, ask if there's a generic available just like you would in the pharmacy. They have great hours, including weekends. Thanks to this being a large group it's easy to get an appt and they don't keep you waiting. read more

I've been a 'client' of this hospital for over 15 years and would not go anywhere else. I saw the very negative review below and had to respond. I don't know how you can say they are the most expensive vet around, I just don't think this is true. I do agree somewhat about the flea treatments, but they don't force them on you, so just go and buy the Frontline from amazon or PetSmart like I do! It still works on my dogs! If you don't like their groomer, don't use her! I used to use one years ago who was great but she ended up leaving and I had a bad experience with the next one, and found a great local groomer who I am still using. As for the vets being "standoffish" and rushing out of the room, I can't believe that there is a better vet anywhere than Dr. V and I would trust him with any animal. He is almost always right when he offers a diagnosis and he won't push any treatment on you if you are just honest with how you want things to be handled. I have never felt rushed in any way by any of the vets, ever. It does seem that every once in a while they take on a new younger associate who doesn't work out. But you can request to see only the doctors you like, and they will always honor this request. Admittedly, the prices could be lower, but it's a business, and obviously they have a strong enough following, as they've been here for years and are still going strong. Everyone and every place will have a bad day from time to time, but I just had to offer the other side of the story on this vet. I have no plans to switch! read more

I have been bringing my pets to this hospital for 28 yrs and I have found them to be very good. Recently, my 16 yr old Pomeranian became ill with a stomach virus, passing blood and refusing water for 3 days. Of course he began to dehydrate. I took him to the MAH and they were not only kind and efficient, spending all the time I needed and answering questions, but they treated him nicely and got him back to health. He was not stressed as a dog would be from being where he didn't want to be. He was calm and relaxed and again...he is better! With a 16 yr old dog, I was quite worried, but they made me feel comfortable and confident. They also let me visit at my own convenience. I never had a bad experience with this facility. read more

Middletown Animal Hospital is not my regular veterinarian, however I've come here with my girlfriend and her dog all the way up until his last days and we continue to go here for our small animals (guinea pigs). I can say with certainty that the dogs that are put in their care are well taken care of. We had to keep her dog there for 3 nights while he received fluids after a horrible case of pancreatitis. Even though they are not a 24-hour facility, the staff was very open and willing to meet our requests to stop in and see him each day while he was there. They took the time to be sure that we were making the right decision and not just letting him suffer. The resilient dog that he was pulled through after those 3 nights and lived for a few more months which we were very grateful for. As to the comments about pricing and cost: what do you expect? If you know somewhere else is less expensive, go there but their fees are just about in line with those of a similar facility where I still take my dog to. read more

He's the best vet we've ever had for our dogs and we recommend him to all of our friends who are looking for a vet. I especially appreciated him as our dogs got old and infirmed. He was very compassionate and gave us great advice, he didn't recommend any crazy costly operations or anything like that for our very old dogs. And the rest of the staff was amazing when our dogs finally passed, they really do a great job of making the best out of such an emotional event. This is the first review I have ever written because my experience was SO horrible. I just returned home from an examination for my dog for a "splinter like spot" on her abdomen. The reception staff was perfunctory at best. The doctor spent three minutes examining the spot with a q tip that he broke off to look at the splinter. He did not use tweezers or any sterile piece of equipment. He did not try to take it out and he did not apply any anticeptic. He told me that "he did not know what it was" and we we should see what happens. He gave me an ointment to prevent infection and inflammation which was $34.00. The price of the 3 minute exam was $62.00. People i know have always told me that Red Bank Veterinary Hospital is so expensive. I have been using Red Bank Veterinary Hospital for 20 years. I pay significantly less for an examination at Red Bank and the receptionists and techs are friendly and very helpful. I would not recommend Middletown Veterinary Hospital at all. They are very expensive and have poor customer service skills. They weren't even nice to my dogs. I highly discourage anyone from using this service. I am extremely disappointed and angry. I have been a customer with MAH for 16 years and within the past few years I have become very disappointed with this establishment. THEY ARE SO EXPENSIVE! I took my dog in Jan and found out he had diabetes and I walked out spending 500.00 because an xray was needed to make sure he was ok..of course the xray came back and he was clear but I was out that money. I am very displeased that they can bleed your pocket within minutes and it isn't necessary. Dr. Margolis is amazing and she really gives you options before you shell out hundreds of un-necessary dollars. Just last week I took my dog for an abscess on his paw and was told he should get an xray to make sure it wasn't a tumor or cancer..then the vet found a "heart murmur" (something he didnt have before) and suggested an echo. I declined both because I wasn't spending 800.00. With his antibiotics, clipped nail and shaved paw, and ear swab i was out 300! 35 for an ear swab and 20 dollars for shaved paw and clipped nail is ridiclous. As a long standing customer I shouldn't be charged that..heck nobody should be charged that. One thing that was upsetting was they put a cone on my dog and sure they did it for hsi safety but I felt they were also looking at the dollar for the product (declined that too). I feel like they use to be about the pets, but now they are all about the money (like a salesman). If rt 516 animal hospital wasn't so far I would go there. I have been with this vet for over 10 years. They kept reminding me for yearly vaccine my dog with buster all kinds. I thought keeping updated vaccine were good for my dog before finding out that he got cancer with 9'' wide cyst in his 15 lbs body. I don't want to say that this vet trying to kill my dog but as much as they experiencing all kinds of dying dogs in that hospital, won't they trying to find out why? If keep each vaccine yearly means money, why they stop? They are incompetence to me at the least to say. I remember one year, after my dog's stool test and yearly checkup, no calling being made from vet which I was told was a good thing because nothing to report. The 2nd day, my dog's stool with 3 inches worm. I took him back to the vet the next day, there was no apologize, no reimbursement, and I got charged one more time. 30 days before my dog's passing, he got yearly busters and body checkup, again, I was told everything was fine with him. 30 days later, he passed away. I would encourage everyone to ignore this vet upon my experiences with them. And if you could find out a book: the Nature of Animal Healing: the definitive Holistic Medicine by Goldstein D.V.M Martin. Take look and it will give you many ideas how to keep your pet health without too much vaccine.
