I haven't ridden my bike in forever, and when I consider it then I'm reminded that my tire is flat and it needs a tune-up. My husband and I stopped by Middletown Cycling to learn more about their repair services. We've seen them advertised in our neighborhood circular and the coupon for the tune-up is $59.99, which is $20 less than normal rate. A gentleman working there was able to provide us with a lot of repair scenarios and information. We discussed the benefits of a tube-up, bike tires and pedals and used bicycles for sale. The repair shop is located at the back of the store. You can bring in your bike and receive an estimate for price and completion of work. We finally got back with my bike to drop it off for a tune-up; however, they were so backed up they couldn't take it that day. We now have an appointment in October. Thankfully they were able to replace the biggest issue, a bad tire tube, right away while my husband waited. With the pandemic bicycling is making a comeback. People are heading to parks and trails for fitness and family outings. The store has some bicycle options for sale, but keep in mind their selection is higher end and the prices may put you into sticker shock if you've only looked at bikes while at a big box retailer. After hitting the park to ride and discovering I had a flat tire and no back up tubes, off to Middletown Cycling I went. When I walked in, everyone looked really busy and I thought I'd have to wait but John immediately asked to help. Told him my situation and being that I hadn't had to replace a tube in a long time, I was clueless as to exactly what I'd need. He didn't hesitate to go out and look, took the tire off, and was off to replace it for me. He put it back on for me and took care of a couple other little things for me too. The others in the shop were super nice too while I was waiting for my tire. It's definitely my 'go to' shop for cycling needs. And sorry I forgot to put my mask on when I went in. I have been cycling at a higher level since I got out of the Army and was blessed with having a local bike shop in Buffalo, NY that my father had been dealing with since 1986. This was the first bike that I have purchased from a dealer that I did not have an established relationship with and let me tell you, talk about earning my business. I connected with the shop via Facebook and the owner was very responsive regarding what I was looking for and when he would be able to deliver the product. Given all the issues that the COVID-19 pandemic has created, he remained in contact throughout the process and kept me in the loop regarding when I could expect delivery of my highly anticipated acquisition. I stopped by Middletown Cycling today with my bike in hopes of getting it checked over, my handle bars raised, and tuned up since I have a ride coming up. It had been so long since I had used my bike carrier, I was sure I didn't have it on the car the right way, or the bike on the carrier correctly either. Bob told me it would be about 3 weeks, however, he was gracious enough to take a quick look at my bike to assure me it was safe to ride and raised the handle bars. He sold me a pump which I needed, showed me the proper way to mount my bike carrier and the bike on my car, and sent me on my way. The bike shop across the street might be bigger and has a larger selection, but I'd choose this bike shop over the other one any day. It's a smaller operation but there are still a lot of different options to choose from. The owner and the guys there are friendly, attentive and honest. I was a tough customer but they were very pleasant, answered all my questions and offered advice. The owner honored a Facebook discount that I didn't even know about and would've paid the normal price. I truly appreciated that honestly. The brands they carry are reasonable priced but expect to pay a few hundred dollars for a good bike. It's worth the investment. I researched to have my bike repaired and after reading reviews was expecting a better outcome. The estimate for cost went up from the original quote and to my surprise upon pickup it was considerably more than the last voicemail I received. Communication during the repair period was lacking. The was informed it needed a new rear wheel as damage was severe (?) the bike had been knocked down in the garage and the derailleur was bent into the tire. Upon pickup I noted the new wheel did not match the front wheel style of the bike. It has a totally different look and color and the charges were $40 above the last quoted price! I was a mtn bike and cyclocross racer in CA and moved my family here to Louisville. I researched and visited many other bike shops here and Middletown blows these others away. There are some bike shops that cater mostly to family and casual biking, and one or two are for the performance oriented, like me. Middletown has the best of both worlds. Ross worked with me and helped me get through a difficult situation concerning my carbon fiber frame. I mean, this guy went beyond what customer service and satisfaction is defined. Being a cyclist that knows his gear and equipment, Ross was able to relate to me and got me on a dream bike, something that a racer would appreciate. Thank you Ross.
