Stop looking! BEST BIKE SHOP to work with!!!! I have been on the hunt for a Cervelo P5... to make the hunt more exciting it has to be a size 48. I checked every local bike shop and the big players here in Dallas. No one had stock but was told I could "check back in October we might have something coming down the pipe (price subject to change ;) )". I found Grit Cycling and Mike through a Google search and I DM'd him on Instagram. I was shocked when he said he had one 48 Cervelo P5 in twlight on the floor. This being my first TT bike I had a lot of questions and he responded promptly and professionally. We agreed to travel to Louisville to pick up and do a professional fitting with him. He also offered me the best and safest way to travel back without having to take the whole bike apart and pay another mechanic to put it back together. Our inbound flight got delayed on Saturday making it impossible to arrive before the shop closed. He graciously offered to come in on Sunday to do my fitting before our flight back home! During my fitting, he was attentive, educational, and responsive to my feedback. The bonus perk was meeting his dog Gravel! The whole process from initial contact, building, fitting, packaging, and traveling back home with my dream bike was effortless. 5 stars for its location being exceptionally convenient to me. 10 stars for Gravel, the shop dog. A lil' pricey. I am early in my biking life. Sort of...I bought my bike years ago from another shop and had an un-ideal time there. Then I got more in to running, injured myself, and just kind of focused on on-foot travel. Then, after 3 years sitting lonely in my shed, I liberated my two wheeled transport back in to the daylight. But my baby needed attention and care that I don't yet know how to perform myself. Grit is less than a mile from my house, so I could easily walk it over to the shop. I knew that they did tune ups, which is what I needed. But they also focus more on selling and servicing higher end and specialty bikes. But they won't turn away a hybrid or lower end cycle that needs some elbow grease. I tried to prepare myself for how much a tune up might run me, so I did a google for the average price. And I checked Grit's website to see what it cost. It was not listed on the site, though it did indicate it is a service that is offered. The price is displayed on a sign behind the counter. It was about $20 more than the high end of the average range on Google. But that is ok...after talking to other more serious bicyclists in town, they told me the price was fair, and I had already decided that the convenience of the location was worth the price to me. The work was done in two days, and I got a text from the shop informing me my bike was ready to pick up. Clean and shiny and ready for the road! Chances are very high I will be back here. read more

Very cool looking shop. Decorated really well, the white Mercedes truck out front parked on the sidewalk was a very nice touch. Walked in, the gentleman who I would assume is the owner didn't look at me, wasn't greeted. I actually checked my shoes to see if I had stepped in dog poop, then smelled my arm pits because it was obvious that he didn't care or want me in the shop. I purchased a bike from Grit Cycling a few years ago. This morning I stopped by Grit to purchase a part for the bike that my son had broken, while trail riding. After showing the tech the part, I was promptly told that the part could be ordered, but was not in stock. When I asked if he knew of another local shop that might stock the part, I was given a funny look. He didn't offer to tell me where in Louisville is a Specialized Bike dealer so I politely asked. I was told to go to the Specialized website and to look it up for myself. Not another word was spoken by the tech, so I left. Have been taking my bikes to various shops around the city for nearly 10 years and I was very happy with my experience here and will definitely be returning in the future. Dropped my mountain bike off for a repair early in the week and mentioned that I was really hoping to get it back for a trip out of town that upcoming weekend. Not only was the bike ready in time for my trip, but they even called midweek to update me on the progress and make it clear that they really cared about the timing of the repair. If you want to have a piece of mind that the dealer will stand by thier product, I'd buy elsewhere. Very unprofessional when it comes to warranty claims. I bought what is now $7800 bike from him and I had an issue with the seat where one of the carbon rails cracked in the first year. Instead of doing his job, he decided to have me do it for him and sent me on a wild goose chase emailing and calling different manufacturers wasting my time and they didnt want to help me when all he had to do was file a claim. At one point, the manufacturer of the seat, Selle Italia, said that the worst case, if the dealer and manufacturer won't help me, they would take care of it. Then, when the replacement wasn't the same, he got very abusive in his emails which I have proof of. I was going to ignore it but now feel it needs to be shared. I just called to ask him for a sales receipt and he claimed he wasn't going "falsify a receipt"? Says he doesn't have records from 2021 which is probably a lie. If I were you I'd find a near by dealer that sells the same brands so that you'll have the support you need should you have an issue. read more

Convenient location. Nice bikes but the owner is very unfriendly and seems to have a bad attitude. I've been riding bikes for 20 years and been to dozens of bike shops and Grit Cycling is the only one where I've always felt unwelcome. The repair work was consistently mediocre. I also noticed that this bike shop was the only business on that block that didn't require masks. I would suggest Parkside Bikes on Bardstown Road instead. read more

The cutest little store popped up on Preston Street relatively recently. That, or I simply noticed it because the lights were on and inside was chock full of bikes! Since I'd been trying to find a bike for the longest time, I finally convinced myself to go in. Being a complete novice to cycling, I was a bit anxious about the store owner being pretentious and getting taken advantage of - but I'm glad that I did. I found my bike and the owner was super friendly and helpful. The bikes come with a month warranty, but no receipts or paperwork was exchanged, which could be weird for some. I actually didn't mind. Something about buying a vintage/re-cycled bike without a receipt, seemed kinda hippy to me. The owner just said he'd remember me, because he'd remember the bike. I trusted that. And it was true, when I walked in again with my bike, he remembered. The owner takes the ultimate care in re-purposing vintage bikes. Though I still don't know much about bikes, I was impressed with the brands that I recognized and how good of condition they were still in, since I knew them to be pretty old bikes. My old 90's hybrid Trek has treated me well since I bought it in September. I had to go back a few times for a couple of adjustments, but the owner fixed it immediately and since it was under warranty, at no cost. He even gave me an extra helmet he had lying around, because I had asked him if he sold any the last time I was in! I plan on hitting up this place again when I want to upgrade from my hybrid. But my commute to work is much more pleasant now that I get to ride. read more

As I was looking for a new ride bike, I stumbled upon Old Bikes Belong website. I saw the bike I wanted, emailed the owner, and the next day he had responded. He invited me to come to the store to check out the bike (and others like it). I did just that. After test riding four bikes, I decided on a Raleigh Olympian. The owner was very knowledgeable and patient with my newbie questions. Although his demeanor is a little less than cordial, I honestly think this is just the owner's personality type; which could be easily perceived as cold. I've emailed him once, called twice, and even went to the bike shop to ask questions, since buying the bike. He has never alluded to the fact that I was being bothersome and encouraged me to contact him, should I have any other questions/problems. I would definitely recommend checking him out before you make a bike purchase; especially if you're looking for a quality used bike. read more

Me and my boyfriend both bought bikes here recently ( him for commuting to school, mine for an anniversary gift *aaawww*) and we had a great experience with this shop. He got a new bike, and mine was a used bike that was restored. They have a very large selection, with most bikes ranging above $300, though this varies with stock. Spending that much money on a bike is still a new concept to me, but I know that's the norm for a decent bike. Service was good, and we were given personalized help to find the best bike for our needs and heights. Oh- I almost forgot. I was told that there was no return policy for my bike, so that seemed a little sketchy to me. But I bit the bullet and went with it, and haven't had any problems. read more

Concerning Mr. Carroll's address to my original post: After my wreck on River Road as a result of the faulty equipment on the bike soon after purchase, I took the bike to another bike shop. As soon as I arrived, employees asked details about my accident as a result of the bike's brakes inability to function and rusted components, with great concern for my safety. Notice in Mr. Carroll's response to my Yelp review, he immediately becomes defensive with little concern as to details of the issues occurring as a result of the bike sold to me. I've had him do some work for me on an old bike, and Michael's rates are very fair (if anything, he undercharged me). I also consulted with him about rebuilding another old bike, and he was very straightforward about the costs and results of the rebuild. I decided to buy something from his selection of rebuilt bikes instead of getting a rebuild, and I'm glad I did. He has a great selection, and I ended up with an 88 Trek 1500 built with some great components for under $500. It is an incredible bike! I am more than satisfied with my purchase, I am elated! He also set me up with a pair of shoes and cleats that worked well for me. I will continue to go to Old Bikes Belong for repairs and accessories. After seeing the two extremely disparate Yelp reviews, I was a little apprehensive to check out this bike shop. However, I'm glad to say that I did. In addition to offering excellent prices on used bikes, the owner was incredibly down-to-earth, friendly and helpful. After I told him I was interested in purchasing a hybrid, he helped me narrow my choices down to two bikes. He encouraged me to test ride both bikes in order to determine which I liked better and also explained the differences between the two and what parts he had replaced. Additionally, he said that the all bikes come with a 100 day warrantee. In the end I am extremely happy with my bike and it ended up being everything that I was looking for. read more

I've never written a Yelp review before, but I felt the need to in light of some reviews on this page. I bought a bike from OBB a few weeks ago. The experience was great. I was allowed to try out as many bikes as I wanted. I was given honest answers to my questions about what sort of bike would fit my lifestyle best. I was not forced to haggle over the price. When I asked to have the handlebars raised due to my height, the store owner graciously raised the handlebars for no extra cost. He also threw in a free water bottle rack. The bike has been the perfect fit for me so far. Besides just how nice the store owner was, the selection of bikes was excellent. No matter what kind of bike you're looking for, OBB has it and at great prices. Stores like this are too few and far between. It was so refreshing to walk into a bike store and be helped by a friendly person who gave honest answers to honest questions. I highly recommend OBB. read more

I was looking to trade my hybrid to a road bike and stumbled on Mike's website. I saw several older used models I thought would be a good first road bike and went into the store to try them. Mike is quite knowledgeable and loves to talk to people about cycling - even those of us who don't know a whole lot about it. He insisted I test ride several bikes and I finally decided on a '90s model Specialized. I took it home and after several longer road rides I realized it did not really fit correctly. I took it back to Old Bikes Belong the next week and Mike let me trade it for the full amount I paid on it for another bike. I traded it for a early 2000s model Specialized and I absolutely love it. My experience at OBB was entirely positive. I appreciated Mike's patience and enthusiasm. His primary concern was that I left with a bike that I was happy and comfortable with. He also gave me a great trade in for my hybrid bike. I cannot recommend Old Bikes Belong enough. It will definitely be my Local Bike Shop of choice for as long as its around. read more

Although contrary to the name of the shop, my experience at Old Bikes Belong had to do with a new bicycle. In fact, I bought it online and contacted OBB with a request for help assembling it. Michael, the shop's owner, was very quick and courteous with his email response and I was able to bring my box of parts in right away. For $50, I have a fully assembled bike less than 24 hours later and a friendly neighborhood shop that I will definitely be seeing more of for all of my bike-related needs! read more

These guys were awesome. The bike that I use every day to get to work kept on losing the chain if i tried shifting or back pedaling. I was able to drop it off one day and pick it up the next, it hasn't dropped the chain once, And it was super reasonable in terms of cost. I wish I took it there sooner. read more

I have been going to Mike to fix my bikes for about a year now. He fixed a bike that I didn't buy from him, sometimes fixing something small for free since he remembered me. After I let that one get stolen (buy a U-lock kids), I bought a Fuji hybrid and continue to take it to him for repairs since I'm an irresponsible bike owner. He may seem standoffish at first but Mike shows genuine care for his bikes and concern for his customers. He has absolutely no problem allowing you to try as many bikes as you like. He doesn't follow you around the store and watch you, he doesn't pressure you into buying anything you don't 100% love. If you decide you want to change to a different bike, he does trade ins or will help you modify your current bike to fit you better. Even if I move outside of walking distance from Mike's shop, I will continue to go to him for my biking needs. read more

Love this shop! I am a newbie shopping for a road bike, and this place was perfect what I needed. Mike is very low key and let me try out several bikes. This is a very nice little shop, tucked out of the way but easy to get to by car or bike. I consider myself an avid cyclist, but I don't know everything about bikes and I don't really care to. I've noticed several shops around town give off a snobby, arrogant vibe, especially if you don't define yourself as a Cyclist with a Capital C. That's not the case with Old Bikes Belong; I find it to be very approachable and laid back. I recently bought a used road bike from Michael, who owns and operates the shop. He put up with all of my questions, and had no problem with me riding 4-5 different bikes out around the neighborhood. Additionally, he also gave me a fair trade-in credit for my old hybrid bike, which was nice and I doubt it would have flown at any of the other shops in town. I was informed that my bike came with a 90 day warranty. Within 12 hours of buying the bike, I popped my back tire (I was bombing down a pot-holed street like I was still on my old hybrid, not looking at the quality of road I was heading towards). I took it back to the shop, expecting to pay to have it fixed, as it was my fault. Michael fixed it for free, which was awesome. Also, I decided recently, after about 6 weeks of having and enjoying the bike, that I wanted to invest in some new tires, as I was getting a lot of flats. Michael gave me a great deal on the tires and even installed them, because I was still under warranty and he wanted to ensure I enjoyed the bike. My only complaint about the shop is the hours of operation make it a little tricky for 9-5ers to get there, but with a little planning it's not a problem. I highly recommend this shop if you are looking to pick up a vintage road bike, or even if you just need some work done. Staff is friendly, and you aren't paying prices that subsidize Bardstown Road rent prices. read more

I discovered this wonderful shop while searching online. I love vintage steel framed road bikes, however being a smaller rider (5'2"), have had a very difficult time finding a frame my size. Mike was unbelievabley helpful in assessing my needs as a rider and matching me to a bike via text and email. He was even able to locate a frame, not only in my hard to find size, but in my favorite color as well. When he located the bike it was in rather a neglected state. But he stripped it down and repaired and restored every inch of the bike. He even searched for and found specialty fenders, a rack and waterproof panniers, so that it would be well suited for commuting in the rainy Northwest. His attention to detail is astounding. My new bike is perfection for me in every aspect, and if not for Mike's expertise and help, I would still be riding my bike that was too big. It's been an absolute pleasure to deal with Old Bikes Belong, and I would reccomend them to anyone, whether they are local in Kentucky, or as far away as I am, in Oregon. read more
