We really enjoyed our food at Midori! The portions were large, and the ingredients tasted fresh. I particularly loved the smashed and deep fried egg roll that brought some unexpected Chinese take-out flavors to the table, and the salad, which had an expertly balanced sesame dressing. Two stars removed for the surprisingly bad live entertainment. During our recent Monday evening visit, we were seated outside on the beautiful patio, and spent our meal listening to a troubled & whiney young man, let the audience know throughout his set, how drunk he had been the night before, how hung over he was currently, and how excited he was to get drunk again as he performed. In Grand Bend to reconnect with an old friend and he was raving about Midori so headed here for lunch. It sits on the Main Street with plenty of foot traffic. They have a nice large patio and I can understand why it is often quite busy. The staff were friendly and attentive and no issues with the service. Residing in Vancouver, we have so many sushi establishments so I will refrain from any comparisons. I ordered the kamikaze roll and a tuna roll. My first time ever to Grand Bend and they have a Sushi bar! Woo-hoo! Be mindful that it's not AYCE, and the prices are on the higher side, but the entire experience and meal was wonderful nonetheless. Today, we were over at my boyfriend's sister's trailer in Pinehurst and decided we wanted to do a day trip to Grand Bend, since I have never been (shocking, I know!) and she had recommended this sushi bar, because it's the only one in Grand Bend and the menu looked good. It sits along the strip in a beautiful sized restaurant with indoor, outdoor and patio seating. We opted to go inside because we needed to get the sun off our backs for a bit as it had been a super hot and sunny day. It was around lunchtime, so we seated ourselves and right away was greeted by our waiter who handed us menus and got us some cold water. As previously mentioned, this isn't an All You Can Eat Sushi Bar, and this is the ONLY sushi bar in Grand Bend, so the prices for the rolls, appetizers, salads, etc, are a bit on the expensive side. I had my heart set on anything salmon, it's my favourite, so I ordered the salmon sashimi, philly roll, salmon roll and a seaweed salad. All our meals had promptly came out very quickly and the presentation was beautiful. The philly roll was smoked salmon and the actual salmon roll and salmon sashimi was fresh salmon. It tasted fresh, not fishy at all, and delicious. My boyfriend ordered the jalapeno popper wontons, seaweed salad, and an avocado roll, all of which were delicious. All in all, the food was delicious, the service was fast and friendly, the prices were more on the expensive side, being that Grand Bend is more of a touristy kind of beach town that attracts a lot of people. Finally a sushi place in Grand Bend. We went here not only because we LOVE sushi, but because we'd become friends with the chef recently and wanted to pay him a visit. We sat at the sushi bar and were enthralled with the preparation. The menu has some unique items that I still crave today. There were a green curry roll and a sashimi shot that really stood out to me. The sashimi shot was a small tea cup with some horseradish, other sauce and salmon/tuna sashimi wrapped together. You literally take it like a shot, and man its delicious. We also had sake-bomb.. gotta say it was pretty good. Overall, a really unique menu, with a talented chef. If you're in SW Ontario and going to the beach in Grand Bend, its a MUST MUST MUST go. read more

This is my first visit to its new location , and I must say I was anxious to try it. This is the nicest looking most inviting restaurant on the strip , location location location! So be prepared to pay a premium for the charming surroundings. The service is excellent , severs very attentive and the food comes out hot, fast and fresh. Tried the spring rolls , ( very tiny ) the tempura shrimp and their signature Kamikaze roll. Very tasty and super hot ( I love hot food , who doesn't ?) couple minor criticisms , they only provide one sauce for dipping appetizers , which is a spicy hot chilli Thai , I could buy that a Costco .... The tempura should have included a milder offering but that's the other disappointment , tempura should be traditionally breaded in Panko crumbs. This was clearly another version of some this doughy bread coating. Tasted okay but not what one would expect. But definitely give it a try, I may be back again as well. See you there ! read more

Ordered some sushi and veggie fried rice. The rice was extremely wet, not really like any fried rice I've ever had before. The avocado Maki was good but the eel roll was probably made from frozen eel, it was very cold and unappetizing. We asked the server if the dynamite roll had real crab meat or if it was crab stick. She said it was real crab. Unfortunately, it turned out to be crab stick... Finally the tempura was just fried food. It was not fluffy and crispy like tempura should be. Dynamite roll was great, eel and crab roll was nice as was a veggie roll we tried. Spring roll were nothing special but the egg roll was worth the $4 price tag- a beautiful tasty bite! I mostly order the bento box & sub the California roll for the Cali crunch and am never dissappointed. Very busy in the summer & would strongly recommend reservations or you would would most likely not get a table. Sometimes the service is slow when the place is really busy, but the staff are very friendly. The food is consistently great. Have recently tried wonton nachos and are also really tasty! She took very good care of us - checked on us often but not too often - just right, you could tell she really cared. If she is an owner it shows, if she isn't an owner, she acts like one. We tried a variety of things - sangria, jalapeno wontons, turkey lettuce wraps and of course some sushi. Everything was really good. Been here on at least 5 occasions. Figured a one-off is not a good way to tell if a restaurant is on point, or not. To be fair, I always like to give people a chance or two to see if it was just a bad night, or whatever. So........on the plus side, the sushi is delicious. Also great is the edamame, which is unique because it has this awesome sauce that is a bit garlicky, which we loved. On the down side, the service is VERY slow, the drink pours are totally skimpy, and the wait times to be seated can be agonizing. The food was excellent - my son ordered the California crunch roll (a deep fried Cali roll) and I didn't expect to enjoy it as I'm a bit bored with Cali rolls, but my husband and I both thought it was the best thing on our platter! We also had a red dragon roll, a surf and turf roll, and a smith special. All were delish - kids liked all of them too. Recommendations: make a reservation in high season! I'm sorry, but I have to wholeheartedly disagree with everyone here who thought the food was amazing but agree with them that service was very lacking. Atmosphere is wonderful if you can get a spot on the patio (call ahead to reserve). From the 12 yr old hostess (who was adorable but), who made me feel nervous for her, as she tried to stumble out the specials of the day (still have no idea what they were but she was lovely). To the waitress who seemed so genuinely confused when we asked normal questions like (do the unagi rolls come with cucumber or avocado? Btw, they come with neither but you can upgrade for a fee)....to can I have eel sauce on my shrimp tempura roll?). We received such looks of confusion. Imagine asking for ketchup for your fries at McDonald's and being looked at like you're nuts?! I get it's Grand Bend and not Toronto or New York, but the staff should have some idea about what they are serving. Finally, the appetizer of shrimp tempura arrived and it was actually done in a batter similar to English fish and chips and not Japanese tempura and the sauce was a Sweet and Spicy Thai sauce.....not at all like the regular Japanese tempura sauce. But, in fairness , although not what I expected it was tasty and the highlight of an otherwise disappointing evening. My daughter's miso soup was REALLY salty and no tofu. The seaweed salad was especially rubbery. The shrimp tempura roll was okay, but again, the batter was unusual and no avocado, cucumber, or anything else in the roll. The unagi rolls were strange with tentacle looking pieces sticking out (I know eels don't have tentacles, but it was a turn off and we probably have sushi at least once a week). I don't need to envision my food alive before consuming it. I ordered the black dragon roll with the addition of avocado on it. I have probably had this roll in 30+ restaurants....this was a 5 out of 10. I am not trying to be mean, but if you are at all accustomed to half decent sushi, this place will disappoint severely. If you are looking for a lovely patio to have a glass of wine and share a "safe" appetizer, then this is for you. The service was very poor......the hostess was so nervous and untrained, the waitress had no idea about the product she was serving. All of our dishes came out at least 5 minutes apart.....not able to get the waitress's attention for more drinks and finally gave up, asked for the bill and left thirsty.
