I have been trying to hunt down a particular Doctor Strange comics for years so when I was visiting New York City, I knew I had to check out the infamous Midtown Comics. I figured they had to have it in stock. Especially given their massive online store presence. The spot is very unassuming and you have to go up a flight of stairs to get there, but once you get in, the space is warm and inviting. They have racks and racks of comics and trade paperbacks not to mention tons of bins to flip through broken down by character. Unfortunately they didn't have the issue I was looking for, but an employee was quick to look through their system. They did mention that they had it at another location, but it was basically their warehouse & it could be tough to find in person. He was, however, quick to suggest a place like NYCC. When I mentioned I was from LA, he mentioned that if I were to buy it off their website, they usually have discounts that would equate to free shipping. So, while I was unable to find what I was looking for, I was given incredible customer service. I really appreciate that they suggested looking for the issue at a con before even suggesting online purchasing. It showed that they care more about helping me find what I am trying to get vs just making a sale. It shows that they care about what they do and the comic book community as a whole. I'm glad I visited Midtown Comics. And If I am back in the city, I will absolutely return. Until then, looks like they're going to be getting an online purchase from me very very soon. read more

This is a great place right in the financial district. I work nearby and it is a great place to come by and check out all the latest issues of my favorite characters. There are other locations available in the city but this one is my favorite. You have all your favorite comics, toys, and merchandise available. The employees are all friendly and helpful when you need something. I tend to come by every month to read all the new issues. It is not super busy all the time so it's great to enjoy the peaceful experience. Feel free to come by for a couple of hours and spend your day here. Midtown Comics Downtown is really packed with everything you could ever want related to comics. This place is jam packed with my favorite items. I can browse in here a couple hours. I love the classic comics. If You can't find what you're looking for the employees are ready to help. There's two other locations for Midtown Comics but I find this location has an even better variety of comic related merchandise that isn't available at the other locations. The figurines are beautiful in their glass display cases. I'm a definite fan of Midtown Comics Fulton Street. Even if you don't collect comics it's a fun store to shop for gifts. read more

I was seeking some missing issues for a run of one dollar comics that had recently come out and fortunately for me, the Midtown Comics franchise had a number of copies of the ones that my local comic store didn't manage to get. In order to get them I placed the order online which was rather easy but there was some confusion in setting up the final payment, so either I was doing something wrong or something wasn't manifesting when I was supposed to see it. Either way once that had been taken care of I ordered my issues and marked the pick up spot at the Downtown store on Fulton Street, not far from the South Street Seaport. After a day at the American Museum of Natural History I learned my order was there so I headed downtown. The shop is located on the second floor and its very spacious up there. The staff was super friendly and they were chatting the typical geek things with some other customers. Since I had some time, I looked around and while I had been there before quite a few times I never pointed this out on Yelp. Being a comic book store there are obviously a lot of issues to rifle through for potential purchasing and they have quite a stockpile to choose from. I quick perusal of the space found me seeing a number of the latest action figures including a lot of Neca, McFarlane Toys and Funko offerings. Should you need supplies they have protective sleeves, boards and assorted holders for cards and the like. Sadly the plastic bag ban finds the store without plastic bags for your purchases but they have a sweet looking tote for you to purchase for a reasonable price. Oh yeah and very important for the time we are in, the staff was all wearing masks and I saw some gloves too. Shoppers must have a mask or leave the premises. A very good experience and a little something for everyone when all comes down to it. read more

I frequent comic book stores a lot, specially this one and while not always you can find what you're looking for it helps when you find something just as close. On my last visit to this midtown comics the female front desk person was super rude to me, sarcastically responding to my request for assurance. ' did you not see the entire section of what you're looking for?' When I replied yes I did but I couldn't find what I was looking for so I wondered if there was more she responded with 'No, and we won't look in the back for you either' in a super rude way. Instead of taking the opportunity to help out in another way she simply shut me down and sent me off. Horrible way to get comic fans to buy comics. read more

Going to Midtown Comics was on my list of things to do while visiting NYC. This was the closest one to us and what we were doing. While not as big as the location I wanted to go, this location had an impressive amount of comics. Both single issues, graphic novels, pops, statues, and other collectables. A surprisingly disappointing experience here this morning. I stopped by about 11 am looking for a Wonder Woman calendar for the New Year. They were out. The people behind the counter were nice about it, but the person on the floor wasn't. As I was leaving he said, apropos to nothing, "...have a nice day SIR." I am a trans woman. I am not particularly sensitive and people do sometimes honestly make mistakes, but I know the difference and this was intentional. He said it and then fled (as is so often the case) into the stacks. I know that trans panic right now is widespread, and it's a hate-fest everywhere, and there is no such thing as a safe space. But at Midtown Comics? Like many trans people, the comic book universe attracts me because of the celebration of transformation and difference. Call me a dreamer, but I want more out of my superheroes. read more

One of my two favorite NYC comic stores (the other being Forbidden planet). I try and visit this very comprehensive comic/comic related toy shop whenever I get the chance to come to the East Coast. They just celebrated their 25th anniversary and business was bumping, an awesome sign if you love the medium as I do! read more

First off, their Batman section is incredibly impressive and the largest I've seen across comic shops. This one is usually quieter than 42nd, and it has a way better selection on a given title you are looking for. Like 42nd street but imo better for the wider selection. read more

I order through the app and online all the time and to date have always received what I've ordered and packaged very well. The only complaint I have is the processing time. It will take anywhere from 3-5 days from the time you pay before they actually ship. read more

I love this place... the employees always help with the latest best read comic books. They are great to talk to about any addiction Marvel, DC, or animation comic that your Nerdy heart desires. I am a THANOS lover so they basically help out with which edition i should purchase, i could read it right there in the store but because i like collecting anything THANOS i always take them home. I even purchase some Walking Dead comics for my mother, ( Who is a new Nerd and i'm very proud of her) . When you do enter you do have to go up a couple of stairs which isn't the best for an over weight person like me.. i do not like and physical work... but once you reach the top it's like a victory (Rocky Balboa scene playing in my head). Good thing is they have high air conditioning blowing in the store so i get to take my time in cool air picking out which comic i will like to read this week. I've purchase comic con tickets here last year. one of the staff even gave me a extra ticket because i ran here on my lunch break out of breath in desperate need of a ticket and she seen how determine i was she offered one for free. After many years I decided to get back into comics recently. Lo and behold a Midtown Comics is basically down the block from my Mom's house so now my Mom gets to see me more because I got hooked on this place! I have never been to any of the other stores but I totally love this location. The staff may be the nicest and most helpful of any store I have ever been in and I mean that. You are always greeted with a hello and they always ask if you need any help, I have seen them call other locations to track down issues for customers. They will happily tell you what comics they enjoy, how to get back into them or what to start with if youre new to it all. They also have alot of collectibles,shirts,bobbleheads,toys (the stuffed Michonne from Walking Dead is on my to buy list) magnets (got my Joker and Harley Quinn magnets! Yeah I'm a nerd) The place is quiet and relaxing and they let you browse around all you want. Awesome place! read more

Online ordering is really bad as they almost always send out damaged books and their way of compensation is to give 25% off or mail it back at your own expense. It seems like a purposeful scam to sell damaged comics online to make money. Plenty of other online comics who care to chose from. read more

My 2nd favorite comic shop after Bulletproof Comics in my former home of East Flatbush (sorry MC, been going there since they opened in '92). The difference is Midtown Comics Downtown is closer to me than that store, and the others that are closer run out of stock too soon and Midtown seldom does even if you don't get there at Wednesday. The staff is really courteous and helpful and they're never as crowded to make you uncomfortable (see Midtown West). Really do love this place and it fulfills my comic book high whenever its needed. I've been to all three Midtown Comics locations now and for me I found this to be the best. Selection, customer service (though to be fair I think customer service has been awesome at all three) and store layout. I got two great books, one a special Midtown only variant cover and got it for a decent price. I was also more impressed with their selection of key books here too. Some really good finds here and some good prices as well. I'm surprised when I see other people complaining about the prices here because honestly I don't have an issue with them at all. read more

This is one cool place. The staffs were very helpful and directed me to exactly what I was looking for. There were comic books, action figures, and all types of figurines. I was surprised there was Dragon Ball Z (DBA). I was looking for a DBZ Goku figurine as a gift. I was informed where I could find it without any confusion. In addition, I wanted to know how big one of the DBZ Goku was and the staff was nice enough to open the brand new product and show me just exactly what I was getting for my buck. read more

This is a new branch for the long-running Midtown Comics, adding to its existing locations in Times Square and near Grand Central. It has all the features of the other two branches, including n extensive selection of new comics, a deep collection of back issues (including featured back issues on display on the walls) videos, books, toys, and t-shirts. It is on the second floor, like the other two loications, but there is an elevator. It is bigger than the Grand Central location, but smaller than Times Square. Midtown has made a successful effort at making the store bright and friendly, well organized, and full of a diversity of merchandise. It's a little farther from the subway than I would like, but its location is convenient for tourists or the after-work crowd in the South Street Seaport area. All in all, it is a welcome addition to the comic book shop population, which is only now recovering from the crash of the mid - 1990's read more

For many months I have ordered comics online through midtown and once again I received very damaged comics. These comics appeared to have been knowingly damaged and still put in the shipment since there were multiple creases in covers and some were folded back down to possibly go unnoticed. The stores themselves are good, but the shipping department for online orders is horrible. I do not recommend ordering through their online system because of the amount of damaged comics that come from that place. read more

I've been to the Times Square and Downtown locations, and this place is 100% legit. Upon walking in I was greeted and asked if they could help me find so,etching. Immediately I said "The Walking Dead," and they radioed another dude that wasn't behind the counter to walk me over to that area. Nice. There are plenty of tshirts, figurines, graphic novels, comic novelties and, of course comics, to choose from. While it was Tuesday, the day before the new issue came out, I asked if they had any Comic News, the comic book insider newspaper. It was a little hot in there yesterday so I wouldn't hang out here too long on a hot day but it does the chain justice. Not as big as some of the other locations but still has the friendly staff, decent selection & clean + organized space. Comics!!! Ok ok so seriously, comics are awesome. Have you read any awesome comics lately? Midtown Comics, downtown in the financial district is a huge store with a lot of space and everything you want from Comics. Sadly though, they only have comics and comic associated awesomeness and do not carry other "geek" related gear like Game Systems like Dungeons and Dragons and similar games and stuff. But that's ok - b/c it's comics and lots of them. The large aisles allow you to browse without being interrupted by other patrons browsing themselves. It is very well organized - being very intuitive after looking around for a few minutes. They also have some collectible items, like action-figures and buttons and pins, along with some apparel (hats, tees, hoodies etc), and some novelty items like mugs and lunch boxes. The staff was all very very helpful and very knowledgeable on comics and anything one person didn't know - someone else, staffer or otherwise knew something about. So I remember reading about when this place opened, then always made a mental note to go there and check it out. The only problem is: I'm never in the financial district, and I could never justify making a special trip downtown just to go here, mainly because I work within walking distance of the other two midtown locations. Then, the annual library rally was held at City Hall Park last week, and that's like a 5-10 minute walk from Fulton St. Plus, the weather was nice for once AND it happened on a Wednesday. If you're a nerd, you know that's when the new comic books come out. So I think the fates were conspiring to make sure I checked out this store. And check it out I did. I'm glad I did. This is clearly hands down the best of the Midtown Comics locations. Like it's predecessors, it probably was not built to be a comic book store specifically, but they clearly scouted locations for a space that suit their purposes. The Midtowns that are actually in midtown are awkwardly arranged (especially the tight space of the Grand Central-er locations, which I prefer), but this place actually has a book stack area for graphic novels that you can walk around in. The fact that this is a 'Midtown Comics' NOWHERE NEAR MIDTOWN was not lost on me. It's silly that it's still called that, but I would probably argue that it was my favorite out of the bunch. Also, the girl at the checkout counter was super nice and cute. If you have an account at the other stores, it also works here (obviously). Definitely worth stopping by in the area, and Wall Streeters needed a comic shop in their 'hood. read more

To me, this comic book store is as close to perfect as you're going to get. If you like Midtown Comics's other locations, but aren't big on how crowded those stores can get, this is the location for you. The store itself is well lit and spacious, which is probably why Midtown hosts most of their signings and events here. There are sections for comics, toys, statues, supplies and apparel. If I want a comic, this is my first stop in trying to find it. They're always well stocked with all the major publishers' (and many minor publishers') latest titles. If you want it, there's a good chance they have it. And if they don't, the staff will gladly call their sister stores and if one of them has it, have them hold it for you. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and quick to offer help without being overbearing. They're very customer oriented here. And let's not forget the Midtown Comics discount program. It's free to join, and for every $100 you spend on new comics, you earn $20 in store credit. Every city deserves to have at least one comic book store as good as this one. read more

Summary: This is a fantastic store to get new and old comics. It has a good sized novel and back issue section. If you work down in the area, it's very convenient. It is my favorite of the three city locations! The Staff: In my opinion the friendliest of the three locations. The guy working the back is very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. The two girls working the counters are sooooo friendly. Organization: The new comic wall is very well organized for the main publishers (Marvel, DC, Image, IDW). The indies are a little bit confusing so I always end up asking if a new issue of an indie is out yet. The novel section is pretty well organized but I always end up asking for help finding something as I'm not sure where it is quickly. Overall, a great store.
