This would have put the time frame around late September. In the meantime they demanded the down payment right away and it was paid to them. September came and went and they had not contacted me. I placed several calls and they told me I would have to talk to Jake. After several calls Jake never called. October came and went as I tried contacting them again. It was the same story with the same result. Only when I demanded my down payment back that I got a call. He told me that the new time frame would be within the first two weeks of November. Well...Same story, same results. They are not calling me back and I fear that we are going into winter where the job cannot be done. I am to the point of calling the BBB as well as Kent County if I cannot get my down payment back. This is fraud if they insist on keeping my money for services never rendered. I am so through with them.

He said one of our lights was a fire hazard, which frankly scared us, then said his guys could fix it (for a price!). Then he said the spray-on foam insulation in the basement would be practically free because we would get $850 in rebates from our gas and electric company. We did the smart thing and got another quote. THAT guy said most of those things didn't need to be done, our light was NOT a fire hazard and was completely up to code, and that the rebates from the utility companies would be $175. His quote was about a thousand less than VerWys's. When we called the VerWys guy again to see what he'd say, he backpedalled so hard he was going lightyears in reverse! Knocked off 2 grand from the initial quote, but we'd heard enough. Not gonna do business with a guy who tries to take us for a ride by pulling numbers out of his @$$.

Unless you want to be frustrated and finish the job yourself after spending a lot of money, avoid this company. The selection of products is good and the quality of the granite stone is great. The service, installation, and finishing were poor. We were told installation would be two weeks after the design was submitted and the downpayment paid. Five weeks later, the installation was scheduled. No call, no show! One day off from work burned. Another week goes by after making a few calls and sending emails. Finally, a call out of the blue to install on that day. But only part of the countertops because the "guys at the shop did not polish the bottom of the island. Another week and a half and the island is brought to the house but not the rest of the countertops or the backsplash. After another week, another call out of the blue to come and do the installation. Another excuse; the owner says he left the keys to the truck at home. Another day off work burned! A couple of days later, a call out of the blue asking if anyone would be home for the installation. Finally, the last countertop and backsplash are to be installed. The backsplash sections are not even but supposedly, the wall is not straight so it's the best that can be done. The rounded corners are jagged but "if I use any type of diamond drill, it can be smoothed out." When I started to install the kitchen hardware, the drilled granite access holes are too small, the sink holes do not align with the drilled granite access holes, and the cut-outs for the electrical outlets and boxes are not large enough for the screws to align with the electrical boxes. At this point, the final payment had been submitted and there is no more contact. I texted, emailed, called, and spoke to a person in the office, and no returned phone calls, emails, or text messages. After two weeks, of waiting I am doing the finishing and polishing myself. My wife and I went to Granite Direct fr a piece of granite for a bathroom vanity and after dealing…read morewith Russ we had it all laid out for with Russ, we had the stone marked out for where we wanted it cut so all of the veins would match (keep this part in mind for later). We then spent the next month and a half finding tile colored to match the piece of stone we chose. We finally got the bathroom to the point where we could have the top set and contacted Russ to make the appointment to have them come out and template. The appointment was set for a Thursday, the people showed up on Tuesday. We contacted the store (Russ again) and said it must have been a mix-up due to similar names on the calendar, the appointment for Thursday was still set. My wife took a four day weekend (Thursday and Friday) as long as they were set to come out on Thursday she may as well get some other things done that Friday. They never showed up. Contacted the store again, "They'll definitely be there tomorrow." (Friday) Again... never showed up. Now bear in mind, we understand that a single bathroom vanity isn't a big dollar job but, it's important to US. Saturday we went and talked to Russ (again), and he said he was having issues with his installers (not our problem but, it's turning into our problem) so he'd show up and do it himself, which he did that following Monday after hours. Asked him approximately when the stone would be ready for install and he said he had a huge job coming up and he wanted to get it done before then so, about a week and a half. Got the call that the stone was ready and made the appointment to have it installed, two weeks after the template was measured on a Friday. Installer showed up at the agreed upon time WITHOUT the backsplash. He said he would get the situation resolved and contact us first thing Monday morning. Monday morning came and went and I heard nothing, as I work about a mile down the road, I drove up to the store during my lunch hour to find out why it is so difficult to get a simple vanity installed in a timely manner and wound up being berated by Russ in front of two other employees. I was told "I'm tired of being yelled at over this job..." (pretty sure I hadn't yelled at him once, and he'd definitely know about that) "...we can just come pull the granite and be done with it." Now, please realize, if this had been for me personally, I would have said "Let's go, I'll follow you. Just give me back the money I've already paid you." and I would have found another source for a countertop. But, it's for my wife, and one does not simply toss a month and a half of tile searching with your wife in order to make things easy. It's Wednesday morning now, my wife sends me a picture of the countertop via text(Remember what I asked you to keep in the back of your mind for later?), I look at the picture and the countertop is backwards. The part that we had drawn pictures of, and spent 45 minutes discussing the layout of the grain in relation to the splash... all wrong. Long story short. Find someone who will appreciate your business for what it is, big or small. It's money you earned and want to pay for a service that's deserving. Granite Direct in Kentwood (Grand Rapids), Michigan is Definitely not deserving.

From the beginning, it didn't look quite right, but we gave it time, hoping it would settle or improve. Unfortunately, the issues only worsened. When we raised our concerns, we were told the issues were outside their control -- which differs from what we've heard from other independent professionals. We felt the communication could have been more constructive and at times came across as dismissive. After several conversations, Mitten offered to replace only certain sections and tint the rest. From what we've learned, tinting is often seen as more of a cosmetic fix than a long-term solution. It may not match the look of a properly poured driveway and could require ongoing maintenance -- not what we expected in a brand-new home. We hope this feedback helps others make informed decisions when selecting a contractor.

I knew someone that had work done by Dykstra last year and they were looking to hire them again…read morethis year for another job and their pricing was great. I knew they did great quality work from the job in the prior year so I had no worries there. The work crew was on time, courteous, and did a nice job with clean up at the end. It's been about 5 months and I'm still very happy. There are no cracks and everything is uniform and level. They even accommodated my request to put 4x4 wood posts in the steps so that I could use a composite stair rail kit (which I assembled after the cement set). As I mentioned before their pricing is very competitive, so you'll have to plan ahead when scheduling, especially in the busy summer season. That's not any reason in my mind to give them a lesser rating though. They're busy because they do excellent work and have good pricing, so just plan ahead and get a quote and if you have lots of rain like we did this year, you may have to wait a little longer, but that means it will set properly and you'll be happy with the results. These guys are great!

I contacted someone that works for them out of their Battle Creek HQ offices, and he directed me to the Grand Rapids team. Will from the GR office contacted me very quickly and was able to come by our house the next day with his coworker, Luke. Both Will and Luke were easy to talk to and understanding. They showed me pictures of the damage to my roof and assured me it was minimal and quoted me an estimate well below what I thought it might be. We had no need to even file a claim with insurance. The next day, Will reached out and told me that because the damage was so minor, he and his boss (I believe his name is Mark) would be able to come over the next day to make the necessary repairs. I'm extremely grateful for the way they prioritized our home, especially with more rain and storms approaching next week. I'm updating my review for my ongoing window world experience. My last review explained 11 new…read morewindows were installed July 3rd, 2025. ALL windows had gaps in the sashes. I've had to contact the office several times. Their communication has been the worst I've ever dealt with. The main points of my review are: 1. The manufacturer of the windows made the sashes too small 2. The rep came to measure again. Ordered new sashes to replace too small ones. 3. 9/5 (2 months after install) the rep comes to install the new sashes and discovers his measurements were off and now the sashes are too BIG. Orders more, but completely forgot two top sashes. Now we have a couple sashes that are so tight, we can barely open the bottom of our windows. 4. I filed with BBB since once again communicating with the manager of WW is basically non existent. I'm left in the dark as to when new sashes are coming and will they fit this time? 5. I also contacted corporate office of WW 3 times. Twice called and left a message, once emailed to see if I can get any information on when install might be happening. NOT ONE REPLY BACK. 6. After BBB got involved, the manager at WW finally got someone else to order all new windows--although I'm not certain why because no one came back to make sure measurements were correct this time...& I asked questions regarding time frame of when new windows would come. No reply again. This has been the most frustrating experience of my life. After how many times this company messed up on the window measurements, showed up late or not at all, treated me poorly because I'm not happy with the work they did--& they can't even give me a time frame. I also requested they stop my payments as the job isn't finished yet & they still haven't done that. I would never recommend we to anyone. What a nightmare that is still continuing after three months!
