--Botched minor filling resulting in root canal-- A dentist (Dr. Gomes) at Midtown recommended filling a tooth that was asymptomatic, but had shown a small cavity on X-ray. During the procedure, he spilled resin in between two teeth where no work was being done, and ruined a filling. The filling procedure itself was very, very stressful, as he kept yanking the teeth apart to drill for the filling. The tooth immediately began to hurt once anesthetic wore off. The same office then recommended I come in for a second time, where a second dentist re-drilled the cavity and re-filled (which apparently, they shouldn't have done). Months later, an endodontist confirmed the tooth was dying and needed a root canal. Almost after 8 months worth of dental work, and several thousand dollars, I now have a permanent crown over my root canal. (Interestingly, the root canal procedure was less stressful than the original filling!) Many times I contacted Dr. Penchas, the head dentist, regarding these issues. He claimed that root canals are "a common complication when placing a filling" and that I had signed paperwork relinquishing my rights in such a matter. His only recourse was that I should come in and see him so that he could 'fix the problem'. Not being comfortable with returning to that office, I declined. And that's the extent to which he made up for the botched procedure. read more

I've been bringing my family here for over 4 years and their service is wonderful. I'm leaving a 3 star review because their billing Dept continues to annoy me. If you like receiving blank bills threatening to send you to collections in a week over $13 or $50 for "adjustments that weren't made on their behalf" or "billing errors from YEARS ago" then this is the place to go. I always look forward to coming here and it can be difficult to get in, as I have to request time off to be here. Midtown Dentistry surpassed all my expectations. I am someone who loves doing research before choosing a provider. I was torn between two of those highly reviewed Endodontics facilities. It turns out when Midtown was unable to do my root canal, they referred me to a specialist who was already in my top 3 choices. You can be certain that they only refer to the best. When I returned for my temporary crown and a filling, I left feeling that I made the right choice for a 2nd time. Midtown Dentistry - Cosmetic Dentists Near Me - Houston, Texas

I hadn't had any issues up until now. I've been going to Midtown for about a decade and the recent experience that I had was just off putting. Normally or from my previous experience a dentist office gives the patient options for treatment payment and in my case that was not given. I was simply told in so many words that everything is due at time of treatment on the day of appointment (the amount being over $1,500). The office didn't advise of other financing options that could have been given to me as a patient. That was strike 2. Strike 1 was when the office was trying to charge me for a regular cleaning that my insurance covers, which I had just used the same insurance earlier within the year and wasn't charge for the same exact service. Last but not least, I had an appointment for treatment which I was not able to keep so I understand why I was charged a cancellation fee. I get that. What I didn't get is how I was charged more because it was the Wirt location. Apparently the cancellation fee is not the same amount across all locations. A cancellation fee is a cancellation fee. Why is it subject to change per location? Rhetorical question. Ultimately that was strike 3, so I am done. read more

Dr. Dupree is an absolute sweetheart along with other staff. She performed my root canal and made sure I felt comfortable. Keep in mind that this was my very first root canal, so I was nervous! She greeted me with her perfect smile and walked me through the process. Although the process took couple of hours, she made me feel at ease. And since I did not partake on the "laughing gas", I was wide awake through the entire procedure. BTW, I also went to work afterwords. The very next day pain was excruciating since novocaine wore off. I contacted the office to get a better idea and although she wasn't there, she personally contacted me back to check up on me. Normally when I contact a doctor to follow up, the receptionist follows up with me and relays the message to me. I guess some doctors can learn a thing or two from Dr. Dupree. Furthermore, my crown came off couple of times and since I have a crazy work schedule, the office accommodated to my schedule. I've been several different dentists over the year..(blame it on companies constantly changing insurance providers) and by far not only have I received great customer service, but a dentist who truly care about the health of your teeth. read more

Like many people, I am TERRIFIED of going to the dentist due to past negative experiences. I'm embarrassed to say that I had not been to the dentist for about 6 years. Dr. Melissa Dupree was compassionate and patient with me as was her dental technician - a young man whose name I didn't catch. I ended up getting 2 fillings, nothing major, but required quite a bit of extra novacane due to my sensitive teeth. For me, the drill is the worst part, and both Dr. Dupree and her technician talked me through it. Again, super patient and calming. I left with a little goodie bag that included a small toothbrush for a hard to reach wisdom tooth among other oral hygiene accoutrements. Overall, this was as good of an experience at the dentist's office as I could have, considering my anxiety. Everyone was professional and kind and the technology is state of the art! read more

This place is an absolute joke. Each and every Midtown office is employed with uneducated front offices teams. I called this office to schedule with them since my visit at 315 Westheimer office was so awful. I thought I would give this office a try. Jay was rude and condescending. She actually told me that I had to go back to the or other office and that if I wanted to get my crowns done I would have to wait till Aug 28. I then ask3d to speak with her boss and she said she is the boss. She does not report to anyone. I will not recomend to anyone. Sad because I am new to the area, and was looking for a new dental home for myself and my employees. read more

I'm definitely not usually a big fan of going into the dentist but Maliha was so nice and walked me through the entire cleaning as she worked through each step. She was super thorough and genuinely cared about doing a great job. As for Dr. Dupree, she was super nice from the moment she came in to do the final exam. I had a lot of questions related to some cosmetic dentistry I wanted to get done and she was happy to answer everything and gave me her expert opinions on what would be my best options. Jay also helped me with the fee plan associated with what I wanted to get done. All in all, it was a great experience and I'm actually looking forward to going back. ****Update: After my review was seen by the office manager at the main location, I was immediately contacted to make an appointment to come in and see what the issue was with my crown. I was seen by Dr. Penchas at the Westheimer location. The takeaway: you need invisalign, a mouthguard, new crowns, the list goes on. Thousands on thousands of dollars. I was told by Dr. Penchas (their "expert" doctor) that I was hitting my crown with my bottom teeth which was the reason for my current issues. To demonstrate, he repeatedly had me move my jaw in a way that was so unnatural he kept saying "move your teeth this way, move your jaw forward more, move your bottom teeth more, more more more" - Having had dental issues for 13 years now, I'm highly aware of how I take care of my teeth and whether or not they're consistently hitting each other in a painful and unnatural way and I have NEVER moved and/or hit my teeth like this, let alone over and over for years on end. So essentially, taking the blame off of his joke of a staff. The quote was all around a huge rip off, nothing added up, the explanations were, quite frankly, complete bullshit, and I decided to go with another doctor upon viewing other credentials and reviews. Upon leaving my visit with Dr. Penchas, he told me that stabilizing the crown was not necessary. I just needed a new crown, the root canal was fine, and that I could EASILY make it a couple more weeks as is. I'm at work yesterday as a critical care travel nurse in another city and the crown, attached to my tooth, falls out. Thank God I'm required to wear a mask at work, but not the point. I NO LONGER HAD A FRONT TOOTH. My actual tooth under the malfunctioning crown is gone and badly diseased, the complete opposite of what Dr. Penchas told me. I'm now facing the possibility of a whole list of complications that I'm terrified about. This entire group of people are complete liars that are not only incapable of performing complicated dentistry, but are very aware of that while knowingly screwing a young 27 year old and I'm sure many others out of tens of thousands of dollars. My other dentists were appalled upon hearing how this has gone down for the last several years, and I FINALLY feel like I'm in good hands after consistently being lied to and swindled for years on end at Midtown "Dentistry." This is the first time I have ever written a review of any business, but this place is the worst. I had a Saturday afternoon appointment. They called me Friday to try to change the appointment time; I explained I could not come earlier. Called again on Saturday morning, this time with the excuse that the dentist wanted to spend more time with me; again, I told them I would be there at my scheduled appointment time. The receptionist told me my appointment was at 1:30; I said no, I will be there at 1:45, the time in the text and email confirmations. I had several other errands to run and couldn't adjust my schedule just because the dentist wants to cut out early. I showed up at 1:45. Front door was locked, no one answered the phones. I needed to find a new dentist so of course I used my insurance website to find someone within the network. After looking for a couple of days I decided to go with Midtown Dentistry. Initially, I was looking for someone with a holistic approach and was unable to get an appointment with the location I decided on so chose to go to the Wirt Office. Everyone has been very nice and professional. The office is nice, clean and has a pleasant atmosphere. And of course I needed to have dental work done, they plotted out a plan for me, but gave me the option to follow the phases or change them around. I was originally a patient at the Westheimer location and had a great experience there. I moved, conveniently, when the Wirt location opened and I must say, I think this location is much nicer! Newer building and plenty of parking. Dr. Dupree is awesome, so sweet and actually makes going to the dentist enjoyable! Luckily, I've only ever needed cleanings but I know that if I ever needed more work done on my teeth that I would be in good hands here. Office is welcoming, Dr. is friendly and office staff horrendously incompetent to say the least. Despite providing insurance details and verifying coverage with the office staff prior to our exam, we were upon completion of the visit introduced to a 150 dollar fee (additional to the insurance coverage we had already verified)... In disbelieve but needing to return to work I paid only to find ADDITIONAL billing in the mail two weeks later.... Neither invoices outlined services provided, insurance coverage, amount I paid at time of service nor explanation of what transpired since our initial consultation...... So I called, and called again and called again.... resulting in several messages requesting to return my call and one human response; 'I will investigate' because your location is not answering the phone...... Meanwhile the Dr. continues to mail invoices unable to explain why a regular exam and cleaning should cost $500 + insurance coverage. Needless to say, this Dr. is either falsely claiming insurance reimbursement or the staff is grossly incompetent.... read more
