Absolute WORST boarding experience we have ever had. We boarded our sweet dog, Barnaby, for a long weekend and the day before we came to pick him up, we got a call from the staff saying that he was not coming out of his crate and was growling at them. To preface, Barnaby is an 18 pound cockapoo and has never bitten or threatened us in any way. I suggested they try coaxing him out with treats, as he loves them, but they claimed it didn't work. It's very hard to believe that someone experienced in dog care couldn't find a way to get him out of his crate. I called several more times only to get the same answer, which left me feeling very concerned. Barnaby was sadly in that crate for almost 24 hours and when we arrived he peed all over himself. I cannot even begin to express how heartbreaking it was to see him in such a state - clearly distressed and ignored for hours. To top it off, the staff had the audacity to tell us Barnaby wasn't allowed to come back. Instead of showing empathy or concern for his well-being, they chose to shut him out. This facility clearly lacks the skill, patience, and compassion necessary to care for dogs, especially those with anxiety or who may require extra attention/care. If you love your dog and want them treated with the kindness and respect they deserve, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. DO NOT BOARD YOUR DOG HERE. read more

Lauren Lund, the best, most professional groomer ever, is no longer at Midtown. Why??? The groomer I got stuck with was late for work, short-tempered and even abusive to me (drugs?). My dog's cut was choppy and grossly uneven. His face looked really bad. The groomer did nothing to his ears. His paws were only partially groomed. It was an absolutely horrible grooming experience, and I will NEVER set foot in Midtown again. read more

Beware here! They don't necessarily groom the dog the way a breed is intended to look. They will cut cut cut regardless if the dog is supposed to have feathering or longer hair in some areas. We specified clearly before the appointment with the groomer but instead got back a VERY different looking dog. This one will take some time to grow out :( They still wear face masks, which is kind of strange at this point but the staff is still nice and apologized. This is the ONLY place in Austin we trust with our dogs. They do a phenomenal job and are competitively priced. The staff we have interacted with over the past 3 years have been patient, understanding, and exude genuine caring attitudes for the animals in their care. They also were so great towards our now late senior dog and even were willing and able to keep up with the medications he was on during multiple day boarding stays. I love that they do interviews of the animals first to ensure the safety of the other animals and staff as well! They also provide excellent grooming services! We always tip big and it still never feels like enough compared to the amount of appreciation I have for the peace of mind I receive while my dogs are in their care! I recommend everyone give them a try! read more

Jessica has been cutting Fido's hair as long as I can remember, and she does a super job. The tail starts wagging when we turn on to Baylor, and by the time we're inside, he's beside himself with excitement. She always calls if there's anything that comes up while she's grooming him (for example, if she has to cut his hair shorter than we discussed at drop off) just to give me a heads up. You can tell a lot about a person when your dog likes them, and Fido liked Jessica from the moment they met. I would be remiss if I didn't mention all the other nice people at Midtown. They are, to a person, very pleasant folks. I've never had anything but positive experiences and professional treatment there. A+ to all the Midtown employees. Nice place. read more

When I moved to the area a few months ago, I was really excited about having a place with daycare and boarding options close by. My dog (3.5 golden retriever) loved the daycare here so I figured I'd give it a try for boarding for 5 days. My dog hadn't boarded in awhile so I gave a call two days in and asked how he was doing. The front desk told me he was doing well, but was getting nervous in the crate and rubbing his nose in the crate "a little bit" but it was not serious. When I arrived to pick him up a few days later, he was given back to me in the condition of the attached picture. While I know that the facility can not prevent a dog from being nervous in the crate, I would have rather gotten a phone call explaining the extent of his nose rubbing so I could arrange for him to get picked up by a friend. I have spent the last week and a half cleaning his infected nose and hoping there isn't a permanent scar. While I do not blame the facility for the actual nose rubbing, I think a phone call to me would have prevented what may be permanent. In addition, I prepurchased a daycare package and am considering chalking it up as a loss and moving on to somewhere else. I am usually pretty low maintenance when it comes to my dog, as long as he gets taken care of properly and has a good time, but this situation has crossed that line. read more

Our puppy Rigley loves it here! Whenever we pull in the car she gets so excited and wants to run in. We take her for daycare every so often and board her here, and she always has the best time and comes home exhausted. The dogs get tons of playtime and socialization and everyone who works here seems to really care about each dog. Would definitely recommend Midtown for any pup! read more

I called ahead of time since this was my first time going here. they told me multiple times that it would be $35-45 max. I was surprised by how cheap that was so i asked a million questions and made her list out what that price included. Once i come to pick up my dog they tell me it's $75. I was frustrated and they did not care to hear me out or honor the price that i was told by their staff member. They need to retrain their employees on prices and policies and honor their word when THEY make a mistake. very bad customer service. i'm not sure if they just lie on the phone to try to get people in or what's going on but i will be telling everyone not to bring their dogs to them. read more

I was excited to go to this location after having taking my pup to another boarding/daycare place associated with this one. I sent him for an eval day for doggy day care and was not worried considering he had already been to daycare/boarded with no issues reported. They did not call throughout the day (if there were issues, I would have expected to hear them before an 8 hour day of daycare). They never said anything to me until I called to pick up the dog. They said he had unacceptable behavior, would not go in a kennel and were not going to take him back until he had proper training. This was mentioned in a curt and rude manner about training and I felt very uncomfortable I am aware he sometimes has separation issues, but aside from that he has gotten stellar reviews from other daycare/boarding places. The person who released him to me was incredibly rude and condescending towards me and my dog (6 months old). They did not offer any constructive criticism...simply critical and rude of my ability to take care of and train my dog. The person also noted that they can't have any noise complaints in their neighborhood... I highly doubt my dog was the only one barking throughout the day. Don't place a doggy daycare in the middle of a residential space then. They do not have the bandwidth to take care of puppies or other dogs who may require a tiny bit of extra attention or love. This brings me to believe my dog was not the only one not receiving the care they deserve. I do not recommend if you care about the well being or happiness of your dog while you are away. read more

They cut his nail as they were grooming him and he needed to get in paw wrapped at the vet and go on pain meds. They refused to cover the vet bill. I had issues. You might too... The groomers did a pretty good job on our two dogs but I had 4 issues. 1) After the fact they charged me a $15.00 "extra handling" fee because one of our dogs was squirmy. Nowhere on the price list is this disclosed. 2) My non-squirming dog was $70 for a full groom, the squirming dog was $90 for a full groom. I'm pretty sure 70+15 is 85. 3) Upon arrival despite having confirmed both dogs bordatella they said they didn't have the dogs bordatella on file. Wonderful. They called the vet to confirm after I complained. Why not call the vet first? 4) They didn't clean the dogs ears. When I got home I had to get alcohol swabs and clean both of them on both dogs. Overall I felt like they like dogs a lot more than they like people and they care for the dogs a lot more than they care about keeping the people who pay them happy. I'd go back by virtue of it being close to home but I felt swindled and didn't have the energy to fight at the end of a long day. Caveat Emptor! read more

Wow this place is horrible!!!! I took my three year old Golden Retriever there today to get a "tidy" which in short is a bath, nail trim and a tidy of the hair. I paid extra for the in and out service which is still apparently a three to four hour wait and then I was called to pick my dog up and was slapped with a handling fee. When my dog came out he was still wet which told me he had been in the crate all day waiting until about half hour before they called me. He had been given a bath and nothing else. The nails weren't trimmed and the hair was definitely not tidy. His gums were also bleeding! What the hell happened to my dog?! After that, I spoke with the groomer who told me they needed three people to hold him down and that his groom could not be finished. The whole time I was talking to the groomer my dog was racing to the door and I know why. I was charged $72 and not even offered an apology or some kind of discount for not having finished the job. I will never use them again!!!!!!! Beware owners and pets! read more

We've been taking our dog here for about a year now and we wouldn't go anywhere else! Our very hairy dog comes back looking brand spanking new every time. When I say hairy, I'm not kidding around folks. Our husky seems happy when we pick him up and the staff couldn't be nicer at Midtown. The last place we took him to said he would cry (my husband still questions their practices) but he doesn't (neither does the hubby) at this place. They do this de-fur thing that does wonders. We've been taking our dog to Midtown for two years now and cannot say enough nice things about them. They take the time to know the dogs and it's obvious that they genuinely enjoy the little rugrats. When you walk through the door, their eyes immediately go to the dog and the greetings begin -- between them and the dog. They aren't sucking up to you -- they're greeting their buddy, your baby. I love that! They have a huge list of spa treatments (from oatmeal dips and baby shampoo to toenail polish and mohawk dyes) and always include a kicky little bandana as the cherry on top. If you're on Facebook, you can also check out their daily pictures for full on proof that your dog is having a kickass time (I dare you to find one dog who isn't obviously smiling in those pictures). And if you're a neurotic mama (hello), you can call in to check on your pride and joy OR you can opt for email updates (offered when you board). Every dog is different, so yes -- it's possible that your dog won't dig it at Midtown. It's also possible that your dog won't dig anywhere without you, not just Midtown. But if you need a reliable spot with sweet people who will absolutely do their best to make your dog smile, Midtown is it. (As for the "cramped and rundown facility" mention in one of the other reviews, I'm completely at a loss. It's a small place (cute old house), but the dogs are usually outside rolling around in dirt and mud as far as I can tell. And yeah, that's not exactly MY idea of fabulous, but it's my dog's idea of heaven and that's what counts in this instance.) If my dog could type, I guarantee she'd write, "ALSJKDFJKLAKJ." So, my cat Doug--who loudly insists on spending about half of his time outdoors--contracted fleas for the first time ever this summer, despite our diligent Frontline dosing. I know that I wouldn't be able to handle trying to bathe Doug. We just don't have a good set up for it, and I think the whole endeavor would leave both of us scarred and soaking wet at the very least. So when I discovered that I could get him bathed and a flea treatment at Midtown, and booked him there immediately. From the first phone call all the way through pick-up, the staff were awesome--friendly and understanding. I was nervous about leaving him there, and they were comforting. Not surprisingly, he flipped out during his bath, and it ended up requiring 2 technicians to manage him (which costs extra). They were unable to get his head bathed, so quite a few fleas took refuge there. Because of this, they gave me a free Capstar to dose him with to kill the few remaining pests. They also wrote up an extensive "report card" about his visit, which--let's face it--is just pure comedy. I don't think I'll be taking him to get bathed again--it wouldn't be fair to the poor people having to actually handle his housecat-turned-mountain lion persona. We have taken our long-haired cat to Midtown several times and are always pleased with the results. But our most recent trip deserves a special mention. I know that I am truly blessed to have a cat that LOVES to get his haircut, but the stylist that worked on him recently (Brianna??) did an exceptional job. An even trim- just the right length with not too much of a mane left or removed. My boy was calm and happy the entire time. They were prompt, thorough and even gave us a discount for refering a friend. They may be a bit expensive ($100 including tip), but to watch my boy strutting and working his fly hairstyle...WORTH IT! read more

Our golden retriever runs into Midtown and signs herself in! She can't wait to greet Jessica and all her humans with kisses. It is amazing to us how she trots right in and doesn't look back - she is ready for her spa day of grooming, nail trimming, without complaint. Once we found Midtown - we knew we struck gold. Her grooming is beautifully done every time. When we travel and we do ALOT of travel -- she receives walks, spoils and healthy dog treats. We feel relieved knowing she is well cared for and a happy dog. During our absence, Midtown sends us email reports of how Charm is doing, along with Charm photos - most recently Charm was busted playing in the shallow dog pool with her boyfriend Boomer! I was pretty disappointed with my experience at Midtown Groom and Board. I have boarded my dog at two other establishments over the course of the six years I've had him and he has done very well. They actually seemed to like him at those other places. At Midtown, however, I was always treated like an imposition. I was told that my dog was "barky." When I asked if there was anything I can do about this problem (?) I was told that I could try a shock collar. Really??? I boarded my pup here one more time and when I picked him up, I was told this wasn't the right place for him, that he "wasn't enjoying himself" and was essentially being expelled. If that's the case and my dog was unhappy, I obviously don't want to keep bringing him here, but it seems like a dog boarding facility should be able to handle dogs with different personalities. After this conversation, they brought my dog out and he stunk horribly like dog poop. I gave him a bath as soon as we got home. I just don't think he was given good care at Midtown. And for $40/night, I expected basic decent treatment. The employee I spoke with was pretty rude and dismissive. When I said that my dog had done well at other places, he asked their names and when I provided them, he just said "oh ok." Not sure what knowing those names meant except to prove I wasn't making up some story. So, overall, would strongly recommend against. read more

My dog is terrified groomers! He once released his anal glands all over a lady trying to grind his nails. Needless to say, I can't go back to that groomer: 1. for embarassment 2. because my dog was obviously scared sh*tless. But thanks to a very picky dog-owning friend ( who once cried when her dog got a bad hair cut) I was introduced to Midtown Grooming. Although I 'm not sure if my dog even cares, I loved the cozy feel of the grooming facility, and I love seeing the groomers get as excited over my dog as I always am! The staff is very friendly and patient. Not only did they give 13 lb Kingsley Shacklebolt the most bad*ss mohawk this side of the Mason-Dixon (poor taste? only territorial line I could remember from history class), they also complimented his "tough" look with a handkerchief colored in flames! And while Kingsley is no fan of being groomed. His mere tolerance of being groomed at Midtown (sans anal release) is a total win! read more

I have a 2 year old goldendoodle and took him to Midtown Groom&Board two weeks ago. I was terrified when I came home and found multiple cuts in his ears, paws and belly. Few days later my doodle got kennel cough. I was advised by MG&B that I need to vaccinate my dog at least 24 hours before ... but my vet said that it has to be at least 72 hours, that's why my doodle got sick I called them and complained about the cuts and unprofessional service, Jessica, the groomer did not take the feedback well and said it is my dog's fault for being so "wiggly" I am very disappointed with the service. I would never take my dog there again. read more

My pup and I were very happy with midtown groomers. I have never boarded my 8 year old Chihuahua before and they were so great with her. When I picked her up everyone came out to say bye to her and told me they loved snuggling her. I would absolutely take her back there should I need to board again. Just picked up my babies from Midtown. Easy in and easy out. They were done in record time and they look smashing! One of my babies came from a puppy mill situation and is very nervous and anxious. They took care of him and made sure I didn't feel weird for being so overprotective. ;) They are definitely more pricey than say, Petsmart, but I've seen in two separate Petsmarts and Petcos how badly the dogs are treated and yelled at. It is worth the extra expense to know my babies are loved on and gently groomed. The adorable bandanas were a cute bonus! We will be back! read more

Midtown Groom & Board has always been nearer to 'excellent' for all four of our Cocker Spaniels who've been cut there, over the past 8-years. Understandably - Mid-Town Grooming acquires/trains new staffers, and sometimes there's some issues, but nothing that has angered me so badly to stop using them. Far from that. They've always treated my babies with respect and care! * I'll be fair: I do not use their boarding, or training services (no need for these). if I had a problem, I believe that it could be explained, or rectified. Midtown is the perfect place for my pup Bandit. They are a play based doggy day care and Bandit is always exhausted when we pick him up. The staff is extremely friendly and you can tell they love all the animals who walk through the door. We have been sending our lab mix to Midtown Groom & Board daycare once a week for over two years. The staff there is awesome, they treat the dogs like their own and get to know their unique personalities and needs. They always let me know if he acts out of character, like he is more tired, cranky or clingy than usual, so I can tell they really pay attention and care about him. My dog is always excited when he arrives and exhausted when he returns - a clear sign that he is getting a great day of play. I highly recommend their daycare to anyone who has an energetic dog who likes to play with other dogs - its a great way to let them get their sillies out and for you to have a break from the daily long walks / hours at the dog park. read more

Midtown has never done me wrong on the boarding front. They've been helping me out for years every time I need to travel, and I've even gotten my boyfriend to board his dog here too (that's a big deal). The only reason its not 4+ stars is the grooming part. My pup for some reason freaks out while they're trying to groom her and they have insisted on no bath time when she's there, ever again. I get it, she's an 80lb wuss, but she gets groomed fine at other establishments and its never an issue. Maybe its an energy thing or an environment thing. The only other reason its not a 5 star rating is phone calls. I get a call the second I drop her off reminding me she's not allowed a bath there, but then to pick the two up (mine and my boyfriends-- who does get bathed) is a waiting game. I always end up calling and they tell me the dogs have been ready and someone should have called. Oh silly organization. Anyway, the girls and guys there rule for the most part, and the dogs love playing there while we're away, and my wallet doesn't ache afterward. read more

I selected Midtown after researching and trying almost every other dog day care in Austin. Midtown was ideal in terms of location (easy to drop off/pick up from downtown), hours (closes at 7, which means I can leave work at 6:30 and miss traffic), and price (the package deal is awesome and allows me put day care into my budget). What I couldn't have known is how awesome the people would be or how much they would grow to love my dog (and vice versa!). Midtown became an almost daily trip for our family and as soon as we turned onto Enfield, our golden retriever would realize where she was headed and lose her mind with excitement in the back. Six months ago, I relocated to Chicago for work and our dog stayed in Austin with my wife. Midtown's daily Instagram posts were often the highlight of my day (and make up the majority of my bookmarked posts). Our golden has since moved up to join me. Although we have necessarily stopped using Midtown, I will never forget the care the Midtown staff showed our dog or the genuine sadness they showed at her leaving. read more

This place ROCKS!!! I've been taking our dog Poppy to Midtown for over a year now and haven't have a complaint yet. Poppy is a rescue dog and we were told up front that she had "special needs" so I was worried about taking her to a new environment. Poppy was born & lived in a shelter for 2 years before we got her so she wasn't really into meeting new people.....especially people that were going to be giving her a bath & trimming her nails. ALL the staff at Midtown treated her sweetly and gave me tips on what to do to increase her confidence and how to use my tone of voice and gestures to let her know that everything was going to be okay. When she first started going, she wouldn't even let them touch her paws without jerking them away each time they tried to trim her nails and NOW she's a pro! The entire staff there LOVES animals and you can TOTALLY tell. I have yet to walk in the door and NOT be greeted by a giant smile and a "HEY POPPY!!!!" True,....my dog still isn't that thrilled about getting a bath, but she does love to play with the other dogs at their doggy daycare so it all works out for her. I personally want to thank the entire staff for their professionalism and just being the awesome people that they are. Without you, Poppy would not be the dog that she is today..... I brought my cats here to get shaved a few times and they always did an ok job. Not as good as our last two groomers, but fine. The last time, they accidentally cut one of my cats whiskers off on one side. When I called to let them know, they said my cats are always "difficult," that it wasn't their fault and that I should basically just get over it. She even suggested that I bring her in to "fix it." When I asked how they proposed to do that, she said she could "even it out." In my mind, cutting off the other side is not exactly "fixing it." I understand that accidents happen and that grooming cats is inherently difficult, but the rude, dismissive and laissez-faire attitude they adopted when I called to complain was ridiculous. If they had apologized or asked what they could do to actually help the situation, I wouldn't be writing this review now. Suggestions: 1. Hire experienced groomers and 2. Don't let your employees on the phone without letting them know your expectations for adequate customer service. read more
