Grooming review: NO STARS UGH. First, NOT AS ADVERTISED- dogs do get CRATED at this location!!! The website says 'No Cages; Dogs enjoy a special suite with clear walls.' NOPE! This was one of two things that drew me in and is a game changer in my opinion, the other was the appointment time (which was definitely nice). Second, the grooming area was a mess. There was a black/brown German Sheppard getting washed but when he was put in back (tiny kennels- look at virtual tour), so groomer could come get my pup, there was white hair everywhere. Not a deal breaker but for a boutique grooming experience, I guess I thought it would be better maintained. My real beef is that when I spoke to person scheduling me at the S.Lamar location (when i was picking up treats), we spoke in depth about what type of grooming services needed, how much it would cost, etc. When I got to groom today, they had me down for one tier lower and said they didn't have time to do the full groom. :( This got me a little upset bc it takes time to get my pup to groomer, is obviously not cheap and scheduling grooming in Austin is ridiculously difficult. Finally, the groom is pretty minimal, what they did do was nice though however, they messed up his tail. :( Not symmetrical. I have no idea what is going on there. See pic. In addition, he is so scruffy and needs a full groom. That is what I asked for, of what I expected and did not get. Now, I have to schedule another groom, spend extra time and another $70-$85 on a full groom. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Treats review: 5 stars. I started going to Barkin Creek after the previous groomer I was going to closed. I followed Noel and absolutely love her. She is so compassionate and you can see she loves these babies. Cashmeres hair always looks great after she goes and it's never a "we need to shave her" like other groomers say and seem to be the only thing they know how to do. I've never had an issue and I know Cashmere likes Noel and the calm environment because she doesn't get anxious being there. I also like the fact that she gets worked on as soon as I drop her off and as soon as she is done I get a text. For Cashmere I haven't waited more than 1.5 hrs for her groom. read more

WONDERFUL--I cannot recommend Melinda at this location enough. I was agonizing over trying to find somewhere that would bathe and groom my shih tzu with various ailments ahead of her surgery next month and everyone at Barkin Creek was so helpful. The receptionist who took initial phone call took the time to go ask all the necessary questions while I was on the line and then scheduled us with Melinda, saying she was the best. And boy was she! Such a lovely demeanor and she took the time to go over how she'd cut and treat my pup's irritated skin and even her damaged ear that's getting operated on. My dog looks the best she has in years. I was having one of those horrible weeks where everything was going wrong, but my experience at Barkin Creek brightened my day. I arrived for my dog's appointment, only to realize I had been booked at a different location on accident. A wonderful staff member at the front desk (I so wish I could remember her name!!) jumped in and assured me she could make it work. She definitely DID NOT have to do that, but I was blown away by how gracious and quick to help she was. An hour and a half later, my dog was ready to be picked up and looked super spiffy and clean. My Border Collie Lab is almost 12 years old with arthritis in his hips. Therefore I was very concerned about taking him "anywhere" to be groomed. I took him to Barkin' Creek for the first time. I was really nervous for him. Well, my dream came true. By chance (or God in my case) my dog was paired up with Lee Anne Chadwick. She was amazing. From the time she walked out to meet me and my dog she was kind and professional. Right off the bat she got to know me (and more importantly my dog and he was calm with her right away). I told her about his age and arthritis. She immediately put me to ease by letting me know she has groomed many senior dogs with arthritis, etc. She mentioned that she had 20 years of experience as well. Was I ever happy for my dog. Well, fast forward to me picking him up, Lee Anne was true to her word and he came out of the store wagging his tail and looking great! She reminded me to allow him to rest a bit because he would be a little tired. The bottom line is that if you love your dog the way I love my dog......take him or her to Lee Anne!! I'm 59 years old and have very seldom had such an awesome customer service experience as I had with Lee Anne. And I would be remiss if I didn't mention that the whole experience was awesome including the person who answered the phone when I initially called. Typically with other places I find the cut is too buzzed and short, but this time she got a very well done proper summer trim. Some time ago we adopted an older doodle-mix that really seemed to hate being groomed. The previous owners told us he would typically be a bit cranky/mopey for a few days and we witnessed it first hand ourselves the first few times we took him to get a trim. Since going to Noel at the Zilker location he no longer seems to have any of those issues and is always in both a fantastic mood and new haircut each time we go to pick him up. Cant't recommend her or the company in general enough as they really do great with him as well as our extremely rambunctious terrier who always looks so dapper once they have finished up with him. read more

2 stars because everyone there has been very nice and helpful no doubt. However, I've been a few times, once to get my pups nails trimmed, and a day later one of his paws was infected near the nail. A pricey vet visit and meds later he was fine... I was willing to overlook that, there's no way to know if it was the tech that may have cut his paw and got infected. Came back a few months later when I needed my pup's butt expressed. Unfortunately they don't do walk ins for these things anymore, it's a whole package with paw lotion or something I'm not sure, but a week later I saw him licking his butt again... normal dog things until I saw blood. Went to the vet, his anal glands are now infected. There's no way to know that these are directly correlated with the treatment I've gotten here, but it is rather suspicious. Unfortunately I won't be coming back. Again the staff are super friendly but something unfortunately is being overlooked and my dog has gotten infections in both areas I have had a service here on. read more

I went to see Noel for my dog Pennie's grooming session. Noel was incredibly kind, friendly, professional, and did a wonderful job with my dog! Noel was also very considerate and thoughtful of what our needs were, and made sure she learned exactly how I wanted Pennie's haircut to look. Took my new adopted pup here and my boyfriend and I reallllllly wanted to like this place. Nice branding, good service over the phone, and the groomer was nice. But that was about it. I give it 2 stars at the least because the groomer did a really good job trimming my dogs hair. I had purchased the full service package with what I thought came with a grooming as the phone associate mentioned it did until we arrived and I was explaining what I wanted for my puppers and the groomer had no idea it came with the full service package, but stated she had time and could add it on. Which is fine, my service needs were still accommodated but had there had been no allotted time the outcome could have been a little different. During the drop off, the groomer stated she would give me a full report on how my dog did since I mentioned it was her first time ever going to a grooming service, but upon arrival for pick up, no report was given to me. I had requested that my dogs anal glads be checked and expressed but just a few days later, her anal gland "juice" (sorry for a lack of a better word) was all over my car seat after the groomer said her anal glands were checked. My dog also got a bath, but didn't smell too fresh when I picked her up. I know dogs don't smell like roses all the time, but I would expect my dog to smell somewhat better rather than the same. I was also just given the price for all the services "they did" and I had to ask what was done for my dog. No itemized receipt, no details on the services provided, and no mention about the anal glands, until I asked. I understand during this time, we are not allowed to be inside the building, so I am trusting that everything I pay for is being done, and I would hope the groomer is professional enough to review what was done since this is a drop off service. Since my dog didn't seem like she got a good bath, no telling what else was not done, or done right. I would have liked to try and give them another chance but after spending $170 bucks for a "full service" grooming, I rather not risk it again. read more
