This is the ONLY place we will board our rescue pup. We live in Katy, but boarded here because our family in Austin was vacationing with us and boards their dog with Mark. So we said ok and gave it a try. Our sweet girl has major anxiety, kind of that nippy small dog syndrome. After a few days at Camp zoo, she was BETTER than ever when we picked her up. The socialization and running in a pack really reset her brain. It was amazing. She was calmer and totally happy. She is better on walks and around other dogs more and more after she boards here. We get updates on how she is doing and we are completely at ease leaving her, which we never have been at traditional kennels. We only boarded her two times at traditional kennels, for just an overnight. She was messed up for over a month both times. We even paid extra for her to have her own space and more attention. It didn't matter. Mark and his wife truly care, and we now drive a 5 hour round trip to board our girl here....something we NEVER thought we would do. If you have a rescue that needs that pack mentality and socialization, this will absolutely change them for the better. It's not just boarding, it's dog therapy. We had been bringing our adult dog here for years. We also recently rescued a puppy. Few issues in the past but owner Mark was never communicative at pick up; he'd hand the leash over and barely say 2 words. He lost track of a reservation a few years ago & when I texted to modify, claimed I hadn't scheduled, & I had to send a screenshot showing we had. Our puppy completed the required eval day months ago. As usual there was no real communication at pick up. As this was specifically an eval I texted later to ask how she did; she was young & hadn't been in such a setting. He directed me to a "report card" on their app which wasn't there. I sent a screenshot showing none was there and he then put a report card in. We then booked boarding through their (buggy and hard to use) new app, for which we received confirmation & reminders via email. The day before boarding, I reached out to Mark with one simple yes/no question about our puppy's feeding schedule. His response was that there was "no reason for me to text him", he "can't spend all day texting back and forth with clients" & that I better be on time for drop off (we've always been on time to the minute; he says this and little else every time). We were on our way to drop off the next day & Mark texted me that he did not have a reservation for our puppy. I sent him a screenshot of the email from his app showing the reservation confirmation with drop off time we were moments away from arriving for. He took our adult dog back into his house while muttering belligerent comments & refused to take our puppy, and left my husband & small child standing with her on the curb. After several texts, he finally spoke to me by phone, saying "I will let you talk to me for 5 minutes". He blamed staffing issues, known issues with the app, & a foot injury for how he interacted & admitted this shouldn't have gone down that way, citing how he is a "dog person not a people person." He didn't have record of our puppy's eval day & said she wasn't in their system despite me sending him proof to the contrary. During a very tense phone call he shouted, cut me off, & ultimately hung up on me. He finally took our pup from my husband and assured us that we would receive daily updates via text on how they were doing since at this point, with the erratic behavior and lack of record keeping, I was very uneasy. We called around but were unable to make other arrangements as we were leaving town hours later. I got a text later that evening saying not to worry, and then received none of the promised updates during our trip. Not one, for a week's stay. When I picked my dogs up our puppy had sizeable wounds on her head, abdomen, and elbow. The only "communication" they provide during boarding is a grainy group video of every dog outside which they post to IG. Pet owners have to look it up & peer at it hoping to catch a glimpse of their dog. We've never seen photos of our dogs inside the house to see their resting quarters while boarding. We and our dogs are low maintenance. We aren't the type to text at all hours asking "did he eat all his breakfast?" but a simple "they're accounted for & healthy" text or at least use of their "report card" system would be nice. They take a giant pack of dogs at a time; view their IG to see how many at once. They bragged at our initial meet & greet about the number of dogs they take, & the staffing is usually just Mark & sometimes an assistant. This is a home based business located in a regular house which used to be run by Mark and his now ex-wife. I urge prospective boarders to ask about any max on dogs accepted at a time & staff ratios, another normal industry standard. I'm sure it's a ton of work to take care of so many dogs at once, but because of that they aren't equipped to answer questions no matter how simple, or to let you know how your dog is doing while you're away, or to notice when a puppy is wounded. The response to the wounds on my puppy was that we should expect dogs to get hurt in such a large pack setting and then I have received no response to whether dogs are at least looked over individually at some point and wounds actually cleaned. Dogs, especially puppies, play in a rough and tumble way in a pack setting. But when it gets to the point of breaking the skin & nothing is said/noticed/done, that's a problem. We have cancelled future reservations. I have message screenshots and photos of what's noted here. UPDATE: Our puppy had not just visible injuries, she required medical treatment for a sprained tail muscle to the tune of a $300+ vet bill. When notified, rather than show ANY concern, he threatened to sue me if I updated this. His name-calling response below, where he speaks poorly of some other dog that wasn't even mine since ours is female, speaks for itself. He claims there were no injuries but injuries should be expected, there were no fights but my puppy started fights. Un.stable. read more

This is the BEST place on the planet for friendly dogs!!! Harvey gets so excited when he gets to go to "doggy camp" at Camp Zoo & Pet Ranch. He runs up to the gate and tries to open it with his nose. He gets to play and be social with all the other dogs, and he gets to run around outside, and the owners take such great care of him and the other dogs. I can tell he feels secure there and he is so excited when he gets to go! The owners love all the dogs and send videos every day of them running around and playing together outside. Harvey is a lab and gets frequent ear infections - they even let me know when that happens, and they clean his ears and give him medicine every day when needed! Mark and Teri are angels! When we had a fire at our apartment early this year, we were living in hotels and friend's places for almost 2 weeks and couldn't bring our dog with us. At Camp Zoo they do not kennel the dogs, so she gets to play with the dogs there for day care and boarding. They also send a video every day so you can see your dog is having fun. Mia is a very social dog, so keeping her in a crate is not possible. If there is a single person around, she will bark (non-stop) and try to get out of the crate. I love the home-style environment and the 24/7 care they provide that I haven't found anywhere else in Austin. Where do I begin on how incredible Mark/Camp Zoo is? It's tough! Camp Zoo is the first place I've ever sent my dog (Otis) where he is literally crying the back seat out of excitement to get inside with Mark and all of the other dogs after realizing where we are. Otis gets out and never looks back - he couldn't care less that he won't see Mom for a few days! Mark is very thorough in having each and every dog that stays with him go through a meet and greet to ensure the dogs will get along and play well. He keeps an organized system for drop offs and pick ups, and walks each owner through his land & where the dogs eat/sleep/relax when they aren't outside playing. He also provides multiple videos each day of the dogs playing, hanging out, etc. and it is evident in every video how happy these dogs are to be there. They just adore him, and also adore his staff. You can just tell these are really, really good people. I truly can't believe somewhere so awesome exists! I know my fur baby is happy and cared for while in Marks care, and I don't think twice about where to take him when I'm out of town. We will be customers until he doesn't want us to be anymore! lol. I wish I could give more than 5 stars! We just moved to Austin from Chicago, but needed to go back for a wedding. I was so nervous to board our dog because we had never even done daycare, let alone leave him overnight. Camp Zoo's crate-free and pack beliefs drew my interest right away. I knew being out of a crate and around other dogs would be great for our little (shy) guy. Mark was so thorough during the Meet and Greet- he went over all the info we needed, told us all about himself/Camp Zoo, and let our dog meet some other pups. Of course I was still a bit nervous to leave my baby the day of drop off but I was put at instant ease with video updates and texts from Mark- our dog was literally attach to his hip and Mark treated him like his own! By a couple days in, our guy had opened up a bit and even started playing with some fellow boarders. I could not recommend Camp Zoo enough!! We LOVE taking our dog Scout to camp -- we always know that Mark & Teri will give her all the love and attention we do at home (maybe more!), and Mark sends us check-in videos every day where we can see just how much she's enjoying being there. Scout can be nervous around people she doesn't know, so it is such a joy to see her snuggling with Mark & Teri, she really does consider them family. We've had a few trips' schedules change, and they've always been super responsive and accommodated any shortening or lengthening of stay we needed with absolutely no problem. You can really tell from every interaction that this isn't a job for them, it's a calling. They love dogs, and it shows. I had been looking around at daycare and dog boarding options for my corgi, Hank. I toured a few places that were certainly nice from the outside, but I was dismayed at how much time my very active dog would ultimately spend indoors and in a kennel. I'm glad I ultimately found Mark and his team at the Camp Zoo and Pet Ranch. There, my dog gets to spend tons of time outdoors in the sunshine and fresh air, running around their property (with an excellent fence) with other dogs. This is the BEST doggy daycare, and I trust Mark to take care of my baby. I took my nervous 1yo Aussie here, Banjo (who I love to the moon and back). Banjo was not happy at another popular daycare (where he was left alone in a corner and made no friends, and the staff could not even find him when I picked him up). I decided to see how Banjo would do at Camp Zoo, a place with a more "family" setting. He didn't do great on day one, but Mark spent 1-1 time with my dog and by the 2nd day, my dog was running and playing with the pack. When I take my Banjo to Camp Zoo, I know he is REALLY being supervised and he is building social skills and he is happy. Mark spends 1-1 time with Banjo. He cares about dogs, and want to help them grow socially. He gives them love. I know there are "name brand"doggy daycares out there, but I also know that those dogs are not supervised like they are at Camp Zoo. They don't get the gift of connection like Mark gives his dogs. I love my Banjo, and Camp Zoo is the only place I feel comfortable taking him. At any other place, he would just be a number/name on a computer screen, but at Camp Zoo, member of the family and Mark is always there to let me know how he is doing. Love this place! read more

When we were planning our two-week vacation, we were worried about leaving our Australian Shepherd Echo at a boarding facility because he does not like being alone or locked up in a crate. We looked at over a dozen places all over Austin and this looked like the best option for our boy. He has separation anxiety and we have never left him overnight away from us before. We try to plan our vacations around him so that he can come along but since we were leaving the country we knew it would be too difficult to bring him. We didn't like the thought of him being locked up for two weeks in a crate or small room and left overnight while the staff goes home after the business closes for the night. After we had our first visitation, we knew Echo would be in good hands with Mark and Teri. Since they run the business out of their home, they are always with the dogs and even let the dogs sleep on their bed with them at night (like Echo is used to with us). They take the dogs outside more than several times a day and let them run around together and play. The best part is that they send videos daily of the dogs and it was so relieving knowing he was safe and having a good time. We never once were worried about him and it gave us great peace of mind and let us enjoy our vacation. We are so glad this place exists and never want to take him anywhere else in the future. For the great care the dogs get, the price is very reasonable and was cheaper than several other places nearby. It wasn't a dog-jail like many other dog boarding facilities. extremely RUDE! I called yesterday morning, trying to find a last minute boarding facility for my two dogs. I called around to a bunch of places around my area. I saw Camp Zoo's website, it looked like a good place so I called. No one answered. I called a few other places, then called back. Still no answer, so I waited and called again. After calling four times, they call me back and say, "yeah this is (don't remember his name) you called me four times this morning." I said, "um yes, I am just wondering what your rate is for two dogs for three nights of boarding?" He replied, "first of all, don't call me four times. The morning is the busiest time for me and that was really aggravating." Well, "FIRST OF ALL," you're a business. Part of your job is to answer the phone. I understand mornings may be the busiest for you, so maybe don't have your open hours as 8-5. Maybe have it 9-5 and take care of what is needed before then. This person was so rude, I couldn't even believe it. So he will not be getting my business and I will also tell all of my friends who are considering boarding not to go here. read more
