Andrew Barger was a breath of fresh air and brought my review back up to 3 stars. Luckily, my appointment wasn't rescheduled without my consent this time. I hope I can keep seeing this guy as he's good, attentive and relatable. Since I started coming here about 2 years ago they keep passing me off to different doctors when I schedule a visit. No consistency and no personable experience can be had when they're constantly changing physicians. Andrew was definitely the diamond in the rough, so I plan to insist on seeing him from now on or I'll start looking to their competitors. Only thing left to address is their booking staff and the inconsiderate and thoughtless practices. I made a complaint months ago and nobody has addressed it with me yet how they can justify rescheduling my appointment without my consent. They ended up wasting a full-day of my PTO and the 90 minute- 2hour round trip. read more

Online portal rarely works, leaving you to call to make an appointment. 2 separate automated systems send you in circles and if they call you back, they don't have any of your info despite having been a patient for years. I cannot get out of this place fast enough. Good doctors being pulled down by poor and outdated operations. Go elsewhere. read more

Dr Trotter thinks he is a hot shot cowboy and is arrogant, has zero empathy, is a poor surgeon and runs a terrible office. Stay away from him. He is an average to poor surgeon at best. Certainly not a competent physician. After experiencing a severe injury following surgery by him, he never called to see how I was even though I was seen for my severe injury in his office by his PA (who appears to know nothing about medicine). I also sent multiple messages through the patient portal that were not answered. He also did not ask about my healing or even examine the area of injury at my follow-up post op visit. I was out of work for ten days with the injury. tRotter did not care at all. You would think a surgeon causing a surgical injury would be apologetic and try to do everything possible to treat the pain and prevent complications. Instead dr tRotter showed zero interest or compassion. His PA admitted while seeing me in the office, that he had no idea what caused the injury or how to treat the injury, nor did he discuss with dr tRotter though tRotter was available in the office that day. This speaks to the horrible training of this PA and the totally inadequate supervision by tRotter. dr tRotter did not warn me about the possibility of the complications I experienced though later said he knew full well about them. I did not sign an informed consent indicating the possibility of this injury. He dismissed my injury once I discussed it with him. I have spoken with the Surgery Center where I was injured. The injury occurred either in surgery or the recovery room. The supervisor was very empathetic, took me seriously and has changed procedures at the center, written new consent forms warning of the danger due to Dr Trotter's treatments and instituted training for all the nurses there. I am quite satisfied with their response. They do not want to injure people, they want to help. Hopefully trotter won't so easily injure other patients, at least not at this surgery center. dr tRotter also told me to ignore X-ray findings of possible kidney and pancreatic cancer. Fortunately I saw some actual physicians who disagreed and have taken their advice not tRotter's. I am a colleague, an MD, and he told me not to monitor my urine at home with test strips available over the counter to anyone. Blood in the urine only detectable by test strips is one sign of my cancer recurrence. Apparently he would rather I not detect this at an earlier time when more easily treatable. I am not sure if he should still be practicing medicine due to his arrogance and poor surgical skills and terrible office management. At any rate, avoid this charlatan. He is a poor example of a physician. I have been told this by several of his surgical colleagues as well. Trot away as fast as you can from this physician imposter. My rating for him is actually minus 5 stars but the lowest I can give here is a one. He is a very short man. I wonder if that explains his attitude. He wears high heel boots to try to make up for his stature and insecurity. It's not working! read more

This is a recommendation of Midtown Urology for anyone in Austin wanting a vasectomy. I had a very simple pre-screening call with a nurse/tech during which I opted to pay a little extra for nitrous during the procedure. I showed up for my appointment a month later, had almost no wait, and chatted about movies with the nurse/technician for a few minutes while I started the nitrous and he prepped everything (I shaved at home). Then, I had an almost completely painless procedure (I think there were maybe two pinching sensations, which the doc warned me about) and spent the whole time just chatting with the doc about work and tv shows. My doc was Michael Trotter and he was very chill and did a great job. The whole thing, from leaving the house to getting home again was maybe an hour and a half total. I've had much more uncomfortable and painful dentist appointments. After the procedure, I relaxed for a weekend watching movies and icing the area per instructions and it healed perfectly. Fast forward two months and I just got my results that there were ZERO sperm detected in a sample I dropped off for testing two days ago. I'll still do the second test in a month or so for the "official" sterile diagnosis, but I'm comfortable recommending Midtown Urology and Dr. Trotter at this point. IMO, if you're sure you don't want kids, then getting the snip is a VERY easy way to GREATLY reduce the likelihood of you ever having kids. It's also a great way to eliminate at least one risk of sexual activity and help share the burden of family planning/bodily autonomy with your partner(s). If you're local to Austin, I recommend Midtown Urology for that procedure. read more

Dr. McClintock was great and has a very calming bedside manner. That's the only reason this isn't a 1 star review. The front office staff is the polar opposite. It's impossible to reach anyone on the phone, despite calling non-stop for 20-30 minutes at a time. Voicemails aren't returned, and the patient portal is a mess. I received the initial patient portal login, the password didn't work and it could only be reset by the staff. Tough to get it reset when no one will answer the phone. I was overcharged for my initial consult by more than 100%, and when I brought it up with the front desk they claimed the $111 charge was accurate, even though my insurance claim says I should have paid closer to $50. When I finally got logged into the patient portal, I brought this issue up and received zero response. When the scheduler called me to confirm my procedure, I asked how much insurance would cover and was told I was paying out of pocket for the entire amount, $500. I called insurance to find out the entire amount was covered. Then spent a day trying to reach their office to confirm. Surprise, surprise, no one answered the phone. The next day I finally reached someone in billing, only to be told that billing doesn't interface with insurance (huh??). I had to give them a bad review on their internal survey before anyone would actually return my phone call. Surprise, surprise, within an hour of submitting the survey, I got a phone call back. I realize that there's a constant battle between providers and the insurance companies, and we never really know what will be covered. But overcharging the patient and hoping they don't call you to get it back IS NOT THE WAY TO DO BUSINESS. Quoting clients full price when they have pretty good insurance IS NOT THE WAY TO DO BUSINESS. Refusing to answer your phone during business hours is IS NOT THE WAY TO DO BUSINESS. read more

On my first visit I waited 45 min. to see Dr. Trotter. He gave me 6 minutes of his time and billed my insurance $400. There was a problem on my insurance billing and I immediately started to fix it. It took several months to sort it out and I keep their office informed every step of the way. I followed up calls to them probably 8-10 times, keeping them in the loop. Finally the problem was resolved and I called to let them know. All good... NO. they sent the bill to collections! I called (Dianna?) and she was rude, dismissive and arrogant. She put me on hold and then hung up on me. She told me Doug was going to resubmit the bill. The whole experience with Midtown Urology was awful. They are only in the business to get the cash. They treated me as a payment. I would never recommend them. Find another doctor who will treat you with respect and an office staff who enjoy their clients. read more

I participated in Midtown's Zenflow spring study. This is also called the Breeze. My experience was painful and with serious side effects: passing massive blood clots and blood for 36 hours. Frankly, the toilet bowl ended up coated with blood. I experienced urinary pain for 3-4 days after. The study's informed consent document minimized these bad side effects when in my opinion 100 percent of participants have them. Another negative was, while, under the influence of nitrous oxide, receiving a half dozen hyperdermic injections into my prostate without warning. I had no inkling this was going to be done. I do not recommend participation in this study. read more

Might just be the BEST customer service of ANY healthcare establishment in the city of Austin! Dr. Trotter and his staff are amazing, especially Desiree and Hailey. Going through IVF, my wife and I felt very taken care of as the staff at Midtown was constantly in communication with us to let us know of updates and additional education. The IVF process can be a challenging and emotional one, and Midtown shows the care, concern, and sensitivity around it that we weren't finding at other institutions around town. I cannot recommend Midtown Urology highly enough and thank them so much for helping me and my wife through IVF. read more

The medical professionals are excellent but the office management is deplorable. They no longer take phone calls. The staff allowed a routine prescription to expire despite the doctor approval and repeated pharmacy requests. I could reach NOBODY with Urology Associates to get it filled for a week or more. I would NOT recommend this office at all if you are a Cigna member. First off, I had to convince the doctor to look into my case more. Then He sent my labs to a non-network place. In which I got a BIG bill for. They did not notify of any anything. I also wanted to get my parking validated and they do NOT do this at all (other provider in this building do every time FYI). I have a high deductible and they charged me but stated if they need to give me back money, they will put it back on my card. Once I was owed money they stated "I can only give you a check". A good friend of mine in the medical field who regularly calls on doctors all around referred me to the absolute best urologist in Austin, Dr. Michael Trotter. I called for an appointment yesterday, expecting to have to wait for several weeks if not months and was shocked when receptionist Ashley said they could work me in this morning! My appointment was nothing short of exceptional, exceeding my expectations in every way. The testing was very efficient and thorough and it led to a diagnosis that identified a much less severe root cause than I was fearing (i.e., easily treatable overactive bladder as opposed to prostate BPH that would likely have required surgery). Needless to say, I have found my go-to urologist and I highly recommend Dr. Trotter and his exceptionally qualified and friendly staff to anyone with urologic issues of any type! read more

I was referred to Midtown Urology Associates from a friend of mine in the Army who just came back from deployment. As a navy Veteran myself who works in the healthcare industry I'm pretty picky and critical when it comes to choosing a doctor. Wow, I was impressed!!! The front desk was nice, the doctor was patient and answered all of my questions, and the billing lady spent like 10 minutes on the phone with my insurance just to make sure I didn't pay more than I was supposed to out of pocket. Their website states they take tricare and when you call tricare they are listed as a provider for tricare remote. However the doctors here have chosen not to help current military members with tricare remote . The front desk said they can pick what they want to take and they do not want to take this insurance only standard and life tricare programs.I pointed out that they are still listed as a remote provider and she simply said "well we can decide at any time we don't want to take it and we decided we do not" I pointed out how terrible it was they do not help all military and she says the doctor is helping by seeing my husband for $250 and cost of testing . Wow real generous lol!!You can go to MD Anderson or the Mayo Clinic for less than that! Do not support this office!! Eventually they will choose to not take any tricare. I was referred to Dr. Trotter because of a high PSA reading of 4.9. After an exam, he said I did not have prostatitis, even though he did not yet have test results. The test came in and revealed a PSA of 7.9. I spent the weekend thinking I had cancer. When Dr. Trotter finally called me, only after the urging of my treating physician, he had not even read the test results or reviewed the questions I had emailed. He wanted to do an ultrasound and biopsy right away. I researched and learned that an MRI would be non-invasive, but Dr. Trotter wanted to do the procedure. Based on the advice of an expert in Florida (I was ready to fly there) biopsies are risky and other options should be tried. I offered to pay for the MRI but Trotter wanted a procedure. I decided to take herbs and antibiotics and retest. My PSA went back down to 1. It was prostatitis all along. Insurance paid for the tests and a portion of Dr. Trotter's bill. I refused to pay the rest based on this terrible service and advice. He will not let this charge go and has a collection agency trying to collect the $179. No way I will pay this. One would think he would feel badly about the possible unnecessary procedure and poor service and let it go, but he will not. read more
