I have been a patient here for several years and have never had anything but a great experience. Yesterday I had an appointment and while I was waiting to be seen there was a gentleman who was being quite rude to the person assisting him. She was doing her best to help him out but he was not letting up on his passive aggressive behavior towards her. The lady working the front desk never lost her cool and remained professional. Then there were 2 other much older gentlemen who came in and were confused about various things. The front desk was so patient, understanding, and willing to assist them. I was extremely impressed with both ladies demeanor, professionalism, and patience. And of course, my appointment with Dr. Ashley Blackshare. She is simply amazing and the best. read more

This review is regards the office staff at the Kyle location and the patient portal software. Totally incompetent office staff. Patient portal does not work. I needed an order faxed to CPL, Clinical Pathology Laboratories for a PSA test. Simple and routine right? Over a four day period I asked them several times why CPL had never received anything from them. CPL on Brodie has always been very reliable and efficient. I spoke to someone who said they would put the order on the patient portal. Indeed I could read it on the patient portal but as soon as I attempted to download it or print the patient portal crashed. I tried repeatedly. Then it was suggested I come by and pick up the order. NO! I will drive from Austin to Kyle for an appointment but not because they are incapable of operating a fax machine. Then they said they would mail it to me. However I had blocked out time that afternoon to go to CPL. I suggested they e-mail it to me as an attachment. They said that was impossible, Really? They don't have e-mail? Finally after 4 1/2 days somebody who knew how to use a fax machine faxed the order to CPL so I went and got my blood draw. The very nice and competent lady at CPL told me that whenever Urology Austin sends a fax through their automated system they receive blank pieces of paper. I have received good medical care at Urology Austin in Kyle but office staff and their software is beyond awful. read more

The people answering the phone are awful. Call in asking for a nurse & they refuse to tran you to the nurse! then a desk jockey proceeds to read my medical records off to me! wtf can you say HIPPA violation! I've talked with the nurse as I was told to who said use the portal its more reliable & direct. Ha! what a joke the portal is. If it's not closing out or freezing up on you then it's 72 hours if you're lucky before they contact you back even though they say it's 24 hour turnaround. I then spoke with the office manager who said she's new. I gave her time she asked to see if she could fix the problems. she called me back and said it's a new system they're using that's the problem. I told her it isn't because I found this exact complaint from a yelp review in 2014. I was told she would call back. A year later it's still desk jockeys trying to act like nurses on the phone line asking questions such as "do you need your medicone refilled? I see you take ---. I can refill that for you." No, desk jokey, you can't. you're not a doctor. that's a HIPPA violation as well! Mind, desk jokey isn't asking if you want them to send a message for a refill to the nurse the desk jockey is specifically saying they can refill the medication for you. While Dr. Maloney knows his urology his administration people are horrible. As a doctors office that should have easy access to bare minimum getting a nurse when asked to be transferred it just doesn't happen. I did discover in my search while getting to this urologist that this is an actual corporation meaning corporate medicine. A corporation is listed on the website -buried but found it, that these people are practicing corporate medicine which is why they have way too many patients. Because of the large numbers of patients every time I go in Dr. Maloney introduces himself as if we're meeting for the first time on every appointment. I get why he does it butit's concerning that all the doctors in this urology corporation have to do this because they have so many patients. I also found out that Texas is so short on doctors who specialize in any area that doctors have left central Texas. I had to find Dr. Maloney who is one hour to an hour and a half away depending on the clinic they sent me to. Central Texas-Killeen, Copperas Cove, Harker Heights, Temple, Gatesville, Belton namely Bell, Coryell counties has very few specialists. The problem is Baylor Scott and white. BS&W only takes fully insured patients and has no openings. As a veteran the wait time for BS&W is as long and sometimes longer than the year long wait for a VA appointment. I choose not to go to BS&W because of how bs&w treated and still treats the public over the Covid lie. to this day bs&w still demands patients attending get a Covid shot which is why for this reason & so many other reasons I avoid Bs&w like the plague. I realize this is a long explanation but I wanted the reader to have context as to why it's very important for Urology Austin to fix its call in system, its portal , retrain or fire a lot of its administrative support staff and especially for the doctors to actually give a damn about the problems patients are having with their phone system & admin staff. Unfortunately it's corporate medicine so I'm thinking this will never change. A final complaint. I asked repeatedly on multiple appointments what the root cause was for my diagnosis. I was told age, these things happen, he's not a nutritionist so he doesn't know how that affects the prostate-yes, the prostate urology specialist actually said that. I discovered it was actually my medicine that caused all my prostate problems. If can look this up why did an educated surgeon not know this? I quit the medicine, got the surgery. Things went exactly as Dr. Maloney said it would. I used him for a surgery where he said he would do the entire prostate until I asked if it was necessary if he do the entire prostate. The look on his face when he realized I knew thst if he lasered out the entire prostate he'd have a new source of income because of what that means for the male anatomy. Needless to say he only did what was necessary in the surgery because I asked "why would you do unnecessary surgery on the whole prostate if only a portion needs the surgery." Corporate medicine is awful. Doctors should go back to individual offices or medicine should go back to being strictly charity. read more

I am a firefighter in Austin and former patient of PA Ashley Blackshire and Dr. Miranda Hardee. I've experienced quite the unpleasant interactions with Urology Austin as a whole and would like the opportunity to discuss my experiences with you.  Initially at Urology Austin, things went quite well. Ashley was affable and made the processes of lab work and getting the prescriptions I needed (Testosterone and THC) trouble-free. Additionally, having access to the telemedicine option worked well with my unconventional work schedule (48 hours on/96 hours off). However, when we changed insurances to Curative, the billing side of Urology Austin dropped the ball.  For starters, I was told by Curative that my labs came back too high for Testosterone and that they would not be able to honor my prescription. Lesley Zalasko (who was fired after this interaction) told me that my labs would "have to be under 300" for Curative to cover them. In other words, she instructed me that the only way I could continue to get testosterone through Curative would be to stop taking testosterone and to tank my T-level. I questioned Leslie and she assured me that she had been working for years with insurances and that her statement was accurate. I thought this seemed odd and honestly bad medicine so I contacted Curative myself. Sure enough Leslie's statement was incorrect. The range for normal T is 300-900 and I would need to be within that range to have Curative cover it. So I then got Leslie and the Curatuve rep on a three way call so the Curatuve rep could explain this to Leslie. Once the Curative rep finished, I asked Leslie to repeat what she had said so I would know Leslie understood. At this point, Leslie got mad at me and threatened to revoke all my access to medical care through Urology Austin. I thought this was extreme and I reported her to superiors at UA. To my surprise, Dr. Hardee backed Leslie and refused to be my doctor. I talked with Craig Ortego about all of this and how it seemed as if the medical staff was siding with this office person who didn't know what they were talking about and using my medical care as a pawn. Craig suggested that I be paired with another doctor. My response to him was that doctor needed to be able to prescribe both of my prescriptions, T and THC. He said he would work on it and get back to me and even suggested that I back off the T around the middle of January so we could get my level within Curative's range. I obliged. To this day, I have never heard from Craig or any staff member at Urology Austin about this plan again.  Now it's April 2024 and I am getting inundated with texts about an upcoming appointment with PA Blackshire. I respond and confirm the appointment and assume that the previous dust up was behind us and we were moving forward with my medical care. I then get a random call from Marco Carlos. Marco opens with "I see you have an appointment with Ashley but did you want to continue being a patient here?" which I thought was very odd. We then recapped the aforementioned events of which he was well aware. He informed me that Craig and Leslie had been fired and that this idea of switching me to a different provider had died on the vine. I told him that I never had an issue with Ashley or Miranda. My only beef was with Leslie and her misinterpretation of insurance parameters. He seemed to be good with this and I was preparing for my visit the following day.  Day of scheduled visit: I receive a phone call at 8am from another Office worker. She calls me and wakes me up on my first day off after my firehouse shift telling me that I need to get labs done prior to this visit. I was upset that they called me the day of visit with this bomb especially considering that days leading up to this call I had confirmed my visit and also spoke with Marco and there was no mention of needing labs at any point. Still, this scheduler had no compassion for the situation and was generally condescending and unapologetic.  Minutes later, I receive a follow up call from Marco telling me that I will no longer be a patient at Urology Austin because of my behavior toward the office worker and that Ashley had been listening to that entire interaction. He then disconnected the call and didn't want to hear anything from my end about any of it.  Now I find a lot of the events here peculiar. 1) Marco informed me that Craig and Leslie had been fired and that my interaction with Leslie was actually cited in her paperwork. He was also apologetic for that interaction. 2) no one ever followed up with me about changing providers or options at urology austin after Craig was sacked. 3) [continued in photo] read more

They try their best to get you in and out in a timely fashion. I do appreciate them doing tel-health appointments this last year with COVID. I saw Ashley Blackshare who is so professional, patient and excellent at listening to my concerns. She was able to get me started on the medication I needed to fix my issue, answer all my questions without feeling like I need to rush. I was able to go on with my life as normal. This was so refreshing, efficient and just perfect to not have to do procedures that are not needed or would just put a "bandaid" in the issue. I think they have too many patients. You are asked to be there early for the appointment, and then sit waiting in a room for 1hr 20minutes, and then being told it will be another 20 minutes before they can someone to see you, not even the doctor you were supposed to see. I am sorry but if you are overbooked it should be communicated so you can either cancel the appointment or be prepared to wait for 2 hours. read more

I had a fantastic new pt appointment with Dr Geiser. It was thorough, educational, thoughtful and kind. He was on time, despite computer system problems at the office. He reviewed prevention and statistics for reoccurrence. His kind, reassuring bedside manner makes him a wonderful urologist to see. I am a health care provider (pediatric nurse). After 3 other urologists failed to detect my prostate cancer, over 6 years of BPH meds and cores sent back as benign. Dr. Eric Giesler found the grade 5 tumors causing my BPH diagnosis and inflammation. No one can imagine how unnecessary and dangerous I think the other practices have been. Dr. Giesler detected my condition in an area of the gland where cancer rarely occurs. He is indeed the rare doctor that not only saved the quality of my life, but possibly life itself. A special salute to Gordon Lange, the man with the most gentle touch as he administered my post operative care. My PSA has been 1.1 for 2 and a half years now per CPL test. Medical people such as these men should have their own hospital. There are not the words invented yet to express my gratitude for Dr. Giesler and Gordon Lange. I think of you guys every day. I had a recurring UTI so my primary doctor send a referral to them. I wanted to be seen by a female doctor. I called several Urologists and they couldn't see me until May, this was in March. I called my primary doctor and they called to see if I could be seen earlier, but it was a capital NO everywhere in Austin Kyle Buda, San Marcus, so I called urology Austin and the person answering the phone was a man who looked and looked and looked taking him a few minutes to see if there was somebody that could see me. Well, I was amazed because he got me an appointment with the physician assistant at the Radam circle office as early as the following week I was amazed at the time this man took to see if they could see me ASAP. I was very impressed with a physician assistant petite Manor, which was excellent and she even gave me some samples for a month for my UTI infection. I highly recommend urology Austin, Its offices are extremely clean and well maintained. The check in people are extremely courteous and professional. read more

On November 28, 2022 I underwent the Radical Prostatectomy procedure to remove my cancerous prostate. A very high percentage of men that undergo this procedure have urinary leakage problems - sometimes for YEARS. A very small percentage of men that undergo this procedure are leakage free after 3 months or so. I was 100% leakage free from day one - after the catheter was removed. I cannot speak highly enough about Dr. Eric Giesler at Urology Austin, in Austin, Texas. His expertise, guided by God's hands, and experience resulted in me becoming cancer free and leakage free! I went to Physical Therapy after the surgery for training on how to prevent leakage and build up my "pelvic floor" to hopefully not have to wear a diaper for the rest of my life. After two sessions, with no leakage, the Physical Therapist told me that I did not need to come back for the remaining 2-4 sessions. I am able to squat, sit, bend over, pick up heavy (50 pounds or more) boxes, pick up my kids, and 74 pound German Shepherd without any conscious clenching or tightening of my "guts." If anyone you know has prostate cancer and needs their prostate removed, please consider Dr. Eric Giesler in Austin. Husband had kidney stones and went to Westlake Medical in the middle of the night. Ended up with a great urologist. Dr. Densson is awesome! She is hilarious and seems like she is having the time of her life every time I see her. I met her right after the surgery (used sound waves to break up the stones). She came out to give me an update and instructions to help keep the kidney stones from coming back. Funny advice...felt like I was talking to one of my best friends. This review is for Dr. Miranda Hardee... Dr. Hardee and Dr. Denson are a rare species: They specialize in Interstitial Cystitis or IC for short. I'd been dealing with some annoying, uncomfortable issues for about a year wondering what was wrong with me. I told my doctor my symptoms, she told me what she thought (just a hunch, she said) I was experiencing and recommended me to Dr. Denson. Unfortunately, she books up at least 2 months in advance. I couldn't wait any longer; I needed a "cure." To which apparently there really is no cure for. I was recommended to see Dr. Hardee, the Urology Team's newest doctor last fall. I was in to see her within 2 weeks. Turns out, she is fabulous! I absolutely love Dr. Hardee, she is pleasant, seriously appears to love her job and helping people. She told me what was good and bad for my bladder, prescribed me a medication that totally changed the quality of my life!! I was due at 6 months to see her again and I had new issues to which she educated me on. Even though I felt crabby due to being in pain, she is just the most pleasant, positive doctor I have ever seen. I am very happy with Dr. Hardee. I highly recommend The Urology Team because they have outstanding service and make sure you are taken care of. I've been to this location and the Jollyville location as well. Dr. Hardee is mostly at this location and at Jollyville only on Wednesdays currently. They also have an office in Round Rock. read more

This review is for Dr. Melody Denson... Okay, I really don't think anyone wants to be writing a review about a urologist, but oh well. Dr. Denson is really a surprising doctor. She has an insatiably upbeat attitude, almost unreal. For those suffering from chronic issues, that can be a good thing. She's also very warm whereas many doctors can tend towards coolness. She's also the rare specialist in interstitial cystitis or ic for short. You're never heard of it? I'm not surprised, but actually many suffer from it. Worse yet, it's hard for those who suffer to even find anyone knowledgeable about it. So if you are one of the unfortunate or think you might, you might give her a visit. Please note Dr. Denson misdiagnosed my Interstitial Cystitis for 8 years, and provided incontinence medicine to me that would have caused me to miscarry (after 3 years of trying to get pregnant). Keep in mind, I did tell her I thought I was pregnant, and waiting for the results before she prescribed the medicine. Thank goodness for a good OB/GYN who called before I put the medicine all over my skin, whom actually was yelling in the phone when he found out. And with a good urologist, Dr. Kocurek, for the first time in 9 years, I'm no longer in pain and my Interstitial Cystitis is now managed. It took Dr. Kocurek 2 visits what Dr. Denson could not do in 8 years. . . and that was alot of pain, my friend. read more

I first came to see Dr. Kansas when I was 19, had been having kidney stones for 3 years, and had already passed about 50 (and had 3 retrieval surgeries). I had a urologist in another city and was very displeased at that doctor's method of "treat them as they come". So when I moved to Austin, this is where I went. I liked him right away. He's funny and engaging and generally easy to get along with. But he also knows his stuff. And, most importantly to me, he was SHOCKED at how many stones I'd been having and that no one was trying to see why. Fast forward about a year-ish after that point and lots of tests, he determined I had a specific mineral deficiency that was causing my stone formation. A few lithotripsy treatments and a prescription supplement was the plan... I just had my annual follow-up with Dr. Kansas and received a report that my kidneys are clear. Again. 6 years after I first met him, I now have about 1-2 stones a year compared to the 25+ I was having. He saved my kidneys and I will forever be grateful to him. A note about the office staff - the first few years I went here, the staff was pretty awful. Not lying, I dreaded interactions with them. But the partners must have received enouigh complaints and eventually hired a consulting team (something about "catch the positive") to come in and change things. They really have. For the last maybe 2-3 years I haven't had a single negative interaction, when that used to be the norm. Overall, 5 stars isn't really enough. I'd give him 10. read more

I feel that this team is great. A year ago, during a normal follow-up with Dr. Hardee, she noted my PSA took a great jump. She told me that we may have a problem but let's get an MRI first. It wasn't 2 hours and it was being scheduled. A suspect area was found. She asked Dr Geisler to take over my case. Next was a biopsy and cancer was confirmed. Dr Geisler gave me several options to investigate for treatment. I chose robotic surgery to be done by him. The hardest part of the surgery for me was remembering I just had major surgery, I felt great. It has been almost a year now and I am still very happy with the way this all went down. I do whatever I want to do. My doctor's never downplayed my emotions, I was scared to death. They always took whatever time I needed. I felt like I was their only patient. I would highly recommend both of these wonderful doctors in a heartbeat. Dr. Hardee caught my cancer at a very early stage. Dr Geisler did a great job with my surgery. I feel I owe my life to these fine doctors. I have heard of many cases where it was too late for an outcome such as mine. I'm surprised by the low ratings here! I was referred here for a possible kidney stone. I was able to get an appointment within the same week. This was during the start of Covid social distancing, and they were doing screenings before allowing people in. There was a logistical snafu - I was told someone would call me to determine if I had a phone or in person appt, and if it was phone, they'd call me ahead of time to make sure I was ready. No one called so I went in and upon arrival, they said it was supposed to be phone but they easily switched me to in person since I was there. Given the unique circumstances of Covid and this process being new that week, I don't think this is reflective of their practices and found them to be flexible. The Dr. Northup was super friendly and clearly explained everything along with my options. I had been to urgent care multiple times as well as my own doctor and was told it was "probably a UTI" and given multiple rounds of unnecessary antibiotics so it was helpful to finally understand what was going on and have some next steps! read more

After spending the last few years needing to wear pads for the occasional cough, sneeze, or over exertion I decided to check into what could be done, including medication to help. I've done the special exercises to try to tighten the muscles but it never was enough. I made an appointment to see Dr. Denton after having an accident over Christmas (even with a pad) just from a sneeze. They said it would be a month before I could see her, since I'm a teacher, I asked for a call if someone cancels and the next day they called with an availability in 2 days. I saw Dr. Denson on time, she is very animated and sweet. She listened and was very empathetic. She said they usually do a lengthy test to determine the issue, but after a quick sonogram and visual check she knew I was a great candidate for the trans vaginal urethral sling. She only did them once a month on Saturdays and they had an opening that Saturday. I was in surgery and out in 30 minutes, total hospital time, from getting to a room to leaving was about 4 hours. They knocked me out, I don't remember a thing. Everyone was very kind and patient. When I woke up, I had a catheter in which they took out within the hour. I had to void before leaving which was no problem. I left with some hydrocodone for pain, which I never felt. The only painful part of the process was urinating the next 24 hours, but that was just because of the catheter. It felt like a urinary tract infection each time I voided for the first 24 hours. Otherwise there was absolutely no pain! I stopped taking the pain meds after 3 days. From the moment I left the hospital, I could cough, sneeze, or laugh hard and no leakage whatsoever!!! I feel free. It was really affecting my self-image. Now I don't have to wear pads. It's been 4 weeks since the surgery, at the 6 week mark I may even start jogging again!!! I would definitely recommend Dr. Denson and her team. They are friendly, kind, helpful, and informative. I wish I had done the surgery sooner!!! ;) read more

I attempted to receive Testosterone therapy with Dr. Chopp and went in for numerous blood tests and 1 actual treatment. The initial treatment was extremely painful and left me with a visible scar and a pronounced knot that still exists months later in the treated area. When I returned a few months later I was about to receive the wrong treatment until I informed the nurse that I believe there had been a mistake, at which time she left the room and began my additional 1 hr wait with my young son waiting in the patient lobby. Finally Dr. Chopp arrived in the room and continually denied providing my treatment before until I literally had to tell him what happen at our last visit, the current scarring and the residual knotting. At that time he looked at his records and the dosage amount and exclaimed, "I would never give a patient that amount of testosterone treatment!"......which to say the least was worrisome. As I was leaving the Dr continued to request I go get more tests and that they do 100s of these a day....."he is not sure what is going on".........WOW! Undoubtedly I left at that point and though I believe the treatment is a great idea, I do not have confidence this organization is competent. Scarring, visible disfiguration, possibly providing the wrong dosage and nearly giving me the entire wrong treatment before I brought it to their attention has been a truly horrible experience. read more

I like the doctor I've been seeing there but got shunted to an assistant...far cry from an internist. Moreover I am changing practices to one where I can talk to office staff at the office where I am to see my doctor. They apparently enjoy cost savings by reducing office staff and by centralizing calls to a "center", which has cost them a customer. read more

This is fact: Scheduled a vasectomy in January 2014. The following is my opinion: Dr Chop was awful, in my opinion; Extremely rude, condescending, and highly obtuse. Got up and left without the procedure. Ya know, after scheduling 3 days off work following the operation, redoing schedules and meetings, etc, so my decision was not something reactionary. None of what is written should be considered defamatory in any way as it was solely my experience on one given day. read more

Miranda Hardee, M.D.: September 2019: Referred to Dr. Miranda Hardee about 5 years ago for an evaluation before a nurse practitioner would see me about incontinence issues. Turned out I had kidney stones and they were situated in such a way that lithrotripsy was not an option. Two minor surgical procedures were needed, the first to put a stent in for a couple of weeks to increase the space needed so that the second, to go in and remove kidney stones, could be done. Dr. Hardee was excellent and even assisted me in convincing the anesthesiologist for the first procedure to use a local instead of a general anesthesia. Since then, I have had lithotripsy once and recently went to the hospital for a second and Dr. Hardee recommended adding botox as that might help with the incontinency. When I woke up, turned out no kidney stones and calcification on the bone behind the kidney had looked like a kidney stone to everyone, but did get botox. And the botox is amazing and no incontinency since (almost 2 months now). I recommend Dr. Hardee without reservation. - Kathleen F read more
