Training moment for you all, please read. Hopefully other people can avoid this scenario. Do not use this urologist, go anywhere but here. Nothing but problems. 1. Dr. Shaw gave me a vasectomy and several days later I had a giant lump on the right side. Went back several times over the next few months to see him and only saw his associates who gave me round of antibiotics, three rounds in a row before addressing any of the problems. I would request to see him on the phone they would say yes it's with him and it would just be another person who's never seen me before. The last visit I had was with a woman who actually shot me straight and said this is not normal and did not want to give me a fourth round of antibiotics. 2. After these multiple visits request requesting him but getting a nurse or associate I Literally had to stand in the office and demand to see him, they pulled me aside because I was being a squeaky wheel demanding to see the surgeon who bought my operation. Hence, I finally got to see Dr. Shaw directly after months and months of pain and suffering . 3. He told me that he no longer uses the technique that he used on me for this very reason, he could fix it, but it's a surgery and he has to put me under and my insurance would not cover it. He also agreed he would not bill me for that appointment. He looked in my eyes, shook my hand and told me he would not bill me. 4. Months and months later I get a bill for that visit from Dr. Shaw's office. Today I called and when I questioned it, they said they would take the co-pay off and I asked if I should call my insurance agency so they can take the entire visit off as discussed. The associate at Dr. Shaw's office hung up on me. They are trying to cover their tracks on a false bill in over billing situation She then handed me over to the practice manager. Large lump is still here and I've seen another urologist to see about taking care of it. I do not recommend using Dr. Shaw because of his inability to see a patient directly after a surgery when something went wrong. I had to stand my ground and demand to see him before he would. Then he made false promises and build me in my insurance anyway. If I personally would rate him as a surgeon, I would say one star because he botched mine, but I'm sure some things go wrong. The true one star situation here is a lack of ability to address the problem, when he did address the problem he made false promises, The manager said she would call me back in three days. I'll have another post on this in three days to see if this was taken care of. I'm also contacting my insurance agency to report an over billing statement. Dr. Shaw, hello from Travis hope you see this and I'm sure you remember me. Again, the one star is not because you botched my surgery. It's because of lack of the ability to own up to it, are you going through three rounds of antibiotics for something? That's not an infection, me having to stand in front of your office and demand to see you before I could see you again, and then making false promises to me afterwards. After a year of talks and tests, he persuaded me to have my prostate surgically removed. A year and a half after the surgery, my frequent-urination problem had not improved. His only advice was to have patience; sometimes bladders took a "long time" to "settle down" after a surgery. I consulted my family-practice physician. He figured out that the frequent-urination problem was not caused by something with my bladder or prostate. It was caused by high blood-sugar (diabetes). After I changed my diet and started taking diabetic medicine, my urination problem went away. How is it possible that after years of medical school, and more years of being a practical urologist, Dr. Ruff was unable to imagine an alternative explanation for an old man's frequent-urination problem other than that it was caused by a malfunctioning bladder/prostate? I can only think of two possible explanations. Either he is deeply stupid, or does not care about the welfare of his patients. My advice: stay away from him.

Their version of consent was leaving me a VM stating my appointment was canceled and they had rescheduled it (another month out)... and if that didn't work for me, it was my responsibility to call and change the appointment. Every other doctor I've had chooses to confirm with me directly instead of half-assing it over VM. I checked my VM and don't have that message. It appears that they did not try to reach me after that to confirm. One VM and done. So I just wasted a vacation day at work and a 45 minute drive from Elgin (+ gas abd tolls) only to find out they rescheduled my appointment without any comfirmation. All delivered with a cold and unsympathetic soul punch. "We left you a voicemail telling you to call back if that didn't work for you" was their mentality. TL;DR: they canceled and rescheduled my appointment over VM. Then washed their hands of the responsibility to confirm it with me. I wasted a vacation day, time, gas and tolls because they never confirmed it with me. All for test results that could have been discussed over the phone. Update: lowering my score as I've seen three physicians here, felt rushed or lack of info on each visit, usually you're given up to 15 minutes with a doctor per most insurance plans but here you only get 5. It's been a consistent trend. I went hoping to get information but instead I was brushed off and given a prescription that I didn't even need. I've been coming here for over ten years on and off and it's just gotten so much worse. Dr Mobley heard my situation for less than five minutes and said "if it's not bothering you don't worry about it" and rushed off as I tried to say it was bothering me. Saw dr Jones and again less than five minutes, just wrote a prescription that I didn't even need and finally ordered some test. Then I see his nurse practitioner to go over the notes and she to time with me but she made a suggestion that previous doctors told me would be bad for me and kept going on about it even after I said it was a bad idea and I've already done it. We had to wait for more results. She was supposed to call me with the final results. Two weeks later and I got a call from someone else telling me to make a telehealth appointment. I've already seen three doctors there, paid all my bills, was told I'd receive a call with results. This place really doesn't have its ish together. I decided to look up the owners and it seems it's private equity. I really feel that the doctors are being forced to burn and churn.

Some doctors are just so harried they don't take the time to really let you explain what's happening or how you feel. It really does make the difference. We forget how important it is for a doctor to relate to his patients. I've seen doctors who have been cold, indifferent, uninterested in anything except performing an examination or treating whatever was wrong at the time. Sure, that's fine, but it's the bare minimum; it doesn't set me at ease. When I'm sick, and I'm concerned, Dr. Kravitz demonstrates a level of empathy I've yet to see in another doctor. He gave us maybe 5 mins to just say yes, it's cancer, and scheduled a scope 2 weeks later. we asked for more time to talk about the news and were told that Dr Yang was too busy. FYI a scope can be done in 10 mins in office to look in the bladder. of course we switched urologist. bladder/prostate was removed in March 2023. kinda feel like if this was caught earlier, he could have saved the bladder. now hubby wears a pee bag for the rest of his life. 11 hr surgery to recover from.
