We got to rent the smaller boat this time and cruise up and down the Chickahominy River. The owners could not be nicer, they even let my partner borrow their kids fishing pole for the day! The home itself is perfect for 2-4 people. Everything you need, plus a fantastic view of the river from your porch and firepit. At low tide you can even bring lawn chairs down the stairs to the river and use the makeshift beach to relax.

The bathrooms are large and luxurious, drinks well made, and space well used. The servers and chefs accommodated mine and my husband's diary allergy and Jennifer Walton cleared out the reception room for us to quietly eat hors d'oevers for 4 minutes. As for my sister and brother's gluten allergy, they again came through, and the four of us had our respective dairy and gluten free entrees. We dropped off our reception items with Jennifer's staff on Friday morning and everything was beautifully displayed for the event the following day. Our cocktail hour and reception was from 4-9pm and although our last song played at 8:55, the site graciously allowed us to make our way to the door while several more songs were played. Again, the beauty of the location cannot be beat, and the architecture does a lovely job of complimenting the site. It was easy for out of town guests to find and park. We were extremely pleased and highly recommend them.

We are on the great loop and needed a repair to our bow thruster, the marina was happy to work us in even though they were booked through July! So much to do close by, Uber does pick up from here and food can be delivered. If you get the chance this is a great place to stay.

I have performed a…read morebottom job on my 30' sailboat during the 'Off Season' which took 5 months and also I kept a 23' runabout boat at the marina inside the fence on a rack due to the hassle of trailering. Their Forklift puts it in and takes the boat out & hoses it down after use. Then places it on my designated wood rack again. No hassle. Now (June 2019) I'm waiting for my Va, boat registration transfer from N.C. to Va. so I can change the numbers (& state) off the hull and take my new(er) Center Console boat down for the boating season. Back River is a great area to fish, relax and pull up to Factory Point and enjoy family time. I highly recommend Bell Isle. John

Marina management has made it clear to slipholders who has sway here. The last straw for us is no more DIY in the boatyard. From what I hear, 35 other boats at YRYH left as well. If you are a transient coming for a weekend, you will be fine. But if you are looking for a longer term set up, you may want to consider sailing to another destination.

The boatyard is no longer operated by YRYH, it is operated by boaters world and I would steer clear of them as they have built themselves a very poor reputation since taking it over. It's true that the restaurant, YROC, has become a big driver of traffic in the marina and they can be a pain for slip holders but that has been a little better this year as well, if they expand again I'm sure I'll need to change this as it will truly be a restaurant with a marina on property but so far so good. The docks are nice floating docks with plenty of room and well maintained.

Breakers kept tripping for the 4 transient boats Near me. Some pedestals no power, some low voltage, some on one leg supply. At $3 a foot pretty steep for a bad experience.
